Coca-Cola league one – match day eleven

Posted ImageVPosted Image

Vegard Heggem was left really fuming at full time at Prenton Park as Nottingham Forest lost and once again failed to score for the fourth straight game as Tranmere won two-nil in the eleventh league one match as the visitors slipped to fifteenth.

It took twenty-eight f***ing bloody minutes for the first attempt of the whole game and it brought a goal when a ball played across found Davies and he tapped Tranmere into the advantage.

Forest looked to reply quickly but Nathan Tyson saw his quick shot tipped over the crossbar from Achterberg in the Rovers goal, as he had no real trouble tipping it over.

A foul by Carl Dickinson gave Nottingham Forest in a promising position, which saw Sammy Clingan blaze it high, wide and off target as it caused no problems with thirty-one minutes gone.

On forty minutes, Mark Davies came close to adding a second Tranmere goal but he was beaten by the woodwork and the Tricky Trees where saved by the linesman’s flag as he waved for offside.

Chris Greenacre should have added a second goal in the sixty-fourth minute when he saw his shot was tipped over the crossbar from Krul and it was a corner to the home side.

The second goal arrived fifteen minutes from time when Harrison cut in from the wing before unleashing the shot over Tim Krul, which saw him having no chance at all.

That was the last proper chance of the match, which saw Forest go now four games without putting the ball into the back of the net and Tranmere deserved the two-nil win.

Nottingham Forest 1-2 Sflowerhorpe
Saturday, September 30 2006
Coca-Cola league one – match day twelve

Posted ImageVPosted Image

Nottingham Forest’s run of no wins in four seems no where near ended as Sflowerhorpe United came to the City Ground and won by two goals to one as the Forest fans are beginning to get really annoyed with the teams unprofessional performances.

The visitors could have broken the deadlock within the opening thirty seconds when a great ball found Morris but his shot dragged just past the far post.

Sflowerhorpe where however going to take the lead within the next attack when Williams was able to slot the ball under Tim Krul and the visitors led with two minutes gone, disaster.

Nottingham Forest scored their first goal in four games in the twenty-fourth minute when Sammy Clingan played in Grant Holt and he slotted the ball past Joe Murphy for the equaliser.

A poor clearance found Williams but he could only blaze his drive over the crossbar as it remained one-one at the City Ground.

On thirty-nine minutes the away side regained the lead from a Morris free kick was put into the back of the net from Hinds and it came Forest 1 Sflowerhorpe 2.

A knock back from Junior Agogo found Fadiga and the former Bolton mans drive didn’t even make the goalkeeper sweat and it was well off target.

The first chance of the second period went to Forest when a cross from Felix Bastians found Grant Holt whose header was punched over the bar from Murphy.

On sixty-nine minutes another Forest chance came from another Felix Bastians when again it found Grant Holt but this time his header went just past the post.

Great play from Billy Sharp set up a chance for Hinds but he could only watch his shot go just over the crossbar but great player from Sharp.

The whistle was blown and Nottingham Forest have failed to win again, which is starting to anger Heggem but he said he will not walk out.

September round-up
Sunday, October 1 2006

It has been a terrible month for Nottingham Forest players, manager and supporters as they have only one once in seven games this month in all competitions, which came against Bristol City two-nil. The same month they crashed out of the Carling Cup losing two-nil at home to Championship side and rivals, Derby County. They are currently lying in fifteenth position in the league.

Vegard Heggem is now starting to come under-pressure as the side only managed one victory all of September and if he doesn’t get out of this, he will be sacked before the new year and the story will be over, god he needs to sort it out or I will slap him.

Nottingham Forest got drawn out at home to league two side Notts County in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round, which will see the game be played on Tuesday, October seventeenth two thousand and six at the City Ground with a seven thirty pm kick off.

In other news, Millwall’s Darren Byfield won the player of the month award for the month of September after he scored six goals in eight games in all competitions throughout September, Cleveland Taylor of Sflowerhorpe came second and Tranmere Rovers’ Chris Shuker got the third spot.

Neale McDermott of Carlisle United won this month’s Young player of the month after the twenty-one year old has impressed the Cumbrians throughout the whole of September with some impressive performances, Tommy Spurr of Tranmere got second with Scott Brown of Bristol City getting third.

Millwall manager, Nigel Spackman won the manager of the month after winning six out of his seven league one games throughout the month of September, losing the only one to Brentford at home at the beginning of the month, Ronnie Moore and Brian Laws of Tranmere and Sflowerhorpe came in at second and third respectively.

The goal of the month went to Darren Byfield for his goal against Doncaster for Millwall back on September twenty sixth, Leon Clarke and Chris Brandon got second and third in the goal of the month award.

Coca-cola league one – match day thirteen

Posted ImageVPosted Image

It was unlucky thirteen as Vegard Heggem was left screaming the face of the referee as he saw his side slip to seventeenth after losing to Doncaster thanks to a controversial penalty award, which cost his side at Belle Vue.

It took eight minutes and Nottingham Forest should have been in the advantage when Grant Holt found himself in space but he dragged his shot past the far post and it didn’t go in.

A knockdown into the path of Nathan Tyson saw him shoot the ball over the top when he should have been more composed and then it probably would have went into the net with twenty-two minutes gone.

Gary Holt just managed to curl a free kick into the side netting when maybe he should have crossed it for the players in the area to see if they could have got on the end of it.

Twenty-eight minutes gone and great play from Forte found Dyer and he dragged his effort from just outside the six-yard box, terrible effort from Bruce Dyer when he could have done better.

A corner kick found Bruce Dyer who blazed his header just over the crossbar as he was getting closer to scoring the opening goal but it remains goalless with five minutes of the first half remaining.

The controversial penalty area came in the forty-second minute of the match when apparently Fadiga brought down Morgan but the midfielder was adamant he got the ball and Tyson and Garry where furious.

In the forty-third minute, Lewis Guy stepped up and he planted the football down the middle of the net as Paul Smith who was in for Tim Krul who was on International duty went the other way, 1-0 Doncaster.

In the sixty-third minute and the first chance of the second half saw Fadiga curl his free kick just over the crossbar, so close from the midfielder as a few inches lower and it would have been level.

Dean Morgan broke away with twenty-minutes remaining in view to finish the tie off but he could only see his effort got placed into the side netting and it wasn’t a good finish.

A ball from Bruce Dyer found Dean Morgan whose quickly first time shot was brilliantly parried from Paul Smith when all he had to do was to lift over the goalkeeper and the game was over.

A slip let in Nathan Tyson and the striker should came close as he placed it just over the bar, I think it might have skimmed or grazed it, Forest didn’t look like they where going to score.

The full time whistle went and Doncaster picked up a one-nil victory but Vegard Heggem was left furious as he wanted to scream the face of the referee for screwing his side.

Heggem warned by FA
Saturday, October 7 2006

After a controversial penalty decision, the English Football Association warned Nottingham Forest manager Vegard Heggem after his post match comments about referee Paul Taylor about the penalty award.

The controversial moment came in the forty-second minute when apparently Senegal midfielder, Fadiga had brought down Dean Morgan and that’s when the referee awarded the penalty, which Doncaster scored from and it left Heggem fuming.

In result of the referee, Nottingham Forest are now lying in seventeenth position, which isn’t good enough for a team who once upon a time won the UEFA Champions league under Brian Clough who if was still alive would be fuming at how bad his beloved side are doing.

That defeat now means Forest has not won in seven league one games since they picked up a deserved two-nil home victory over Bristol City back in the ninth of September when Grant Holt scored twice.

Nottingham Forest manager, Vegard Heggem will now be looking to adapt a new tactic to come out of this hole. But I cannot see Forest getting promoted automatically due to their very bad form.

Keep up the excellent story! Your form is really struggling at the moment. Just out of interest, how many times have you changed formation etc...

From my experience I've tended to find there are two ways to play the game, create the formation to suit your players, or buy the plays to suit your formation. Square pegs, round holes - just doesn't work.

Also try and create stability (i.e. same formation of couple with slight changes). And most importantly of all remember your limitations. A team like Forest have always tried to play really good football, and they found themselves relegated two divisions.

With the prima-donas gone and more workhorses, they now mix it up a lot more, hence their fantastic form this season. Another example of that is Chesterfield, they can play fantastic football as they showed against West Ham, Charlton and Man City, but look where they are in the league. Their playing style is not quite right for that division.

Hope this helps, keep the faith...

Can't say I have been changing it that much, just been changing it to variations of the 4-4-2, but nothing seems to work at the moment. I don't change it every single game, I don't win because that would be stupid.

I am now trying a new tactic, a 4-1-3-2 formation with four defenders, one DM, three CM'S and two key strikers, which indeedy will be Tyson and Grant Holt as I hope to sort this mess out as soon as possible.

I'm not usually one to change tactics during a seasn or in a short period (one to two months game time) but this time I have had no choice, or I might be heading out of the league or unemployed.

I am thinking of looking around for new signings who I could sign on the cheap and probably loan in for the remainder of the season because some of my squad are old, useless and crap or they can be old, useless and crap, but they need replacing.

Hopefully you'll sort them out soon :).

I've been using a 442 formation to some decent effect on mine, but I believe that because I've got rid of a few of the old heads (and acquired a few (11) new ones too).

Nottingham Forest 3-0 Port Vale
Saturday, October 14 2006
Coca-Cola league one – match day fourteen

Posted ImageVPosted Image

For the first time in eight league games, Vegard Heggem saw his Nottingham Forest record victory in this league one match, which saw the home side crush Port Vale by three goals to nil in his fourteenth league game in charge of Forest.

Port Vale however had the first chance of the match when Leon Constantine brought a fine save out of Tim Krul in the Nottingham Forest goal with just four minutes gone on the watch at the City Ground.

On thirty-eight minutes, Nottingham Forest had the first attempt on target in the whole game when John Curtis played in Nathan Tyson and striker finally ended his scoring drought by slotting the ball past Anyon on thirty-eight minutes.

A second goal came for the home side on forty-two minute mark when he was allowed to cut in and slam the shot into the back of the net from just outside the penalty area and Forest where on their way to three valuable points at home.

Nottingham Forest could have added a third on fifty-fourth minute when a cross was flicked into the side netting from I think, Grant Holt the striker.

With six minutes to go this dull match was coming to an end but not without a third goal when Fadiga let rip from outside the area and his shot went in off the upright and Nottingham Forest where leading by three goals to nil.

McCormack had a chance to pull a goal back for the visitors today who where well and truly beaten all ends up when he slammed his shot past the post as it didn’t trouble Krul in the Forest goal.

The full time whistle went and much to the delight of the Nottingham Forest supporters the home side actually won for the first time in eight games by beating Port Vale, now Notts County is up next at home in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy first round, has Heggem found the tactic that might work?

Yeh, I know mate you weren't having a dig. I knew I needed to change tactics or the run probably wouldn't end for a good long, long while resulting in me getting the boot, which I don't want.

I hope I will sort the form out now and climb up the league and do well in the FA Cup and Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

Hang in there, Hughesie. Sometimes it takes until Xmas to get your team settled, at least that's what I have found. If promotion doesn't come your way in the first season, then at least you will have a settled side for your second tilt at the title.

Keep this story going - it's extremely well done.

Nottingham Forest 0-0 Notts County
Notts County win 3-2 on Penalties
Tuesday, October 17 2006
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern section, first round

Posted Image V Posted Image

Nottingham Forest dominated from the start to the finish, but it was Notts County who advanced in the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Southern section on the dreaded penalty kicks after drawing nil-nil, Heggem was annoyed at his sides finishing throughout the ninety minutes.

The deadlock should have been broken inside the opening minute when a great, great ball found Nathan Tyson in loads of space to run into but when the concentration was needed the most he couldn’t deliver and blazed it wide.

On three minutes a knockdown from Nathan Tyson bobbled its way to Sammy Clingan and the Northern Irish man’s shot was tame really and went straight to Saul Deeney in the County goal, this is the same Deeney who played at Old Trafford.

Fadiga was allowed to play in Grant Holt whose first time shot was easily parried by the man from Derry in Northern Ireland as somehow they couldn’t get this early goal at the moment at the City Ground.

Inside Twelve minutes, Forest had three chances on target and four over all as they wanted to make their intent and point straight from kick off and Gary Holt had a free kick straight at the County goalkeeper.

The game had died a good bit until on the stroke of half time a great ball found Nathan Tyson again with a good opportunity to score and open the scoring but he couldn’t get the ball past Deeney in the County goal as half time was coming.

County at least did have an effort even if it was off target when a Silk free kick was headed high and wide from Edwards, a shocking header with the first attempt of the second half falling to the visitors.

A flick on found and allowed Grant Holt to have a chance to open the scoring but he could only blaze over the bar, only thing I can think off is that he was being put under-pressure by the Notts County player riding up his hole.

With the game coming to a close and penalties looming, Sammy Clingan decided to flick in Tyson who had screwed his drive wide of the mark just like he did within the first thirty seconds at the City Ground.

So that was the last attempt with noting at the City Ground and like what people had expected when Tyson missed that shot, the match was off to penalties with both sides wanting to win it, even know Nottingham Forest should have already won it in normal time.

We are now going to have a list of the penalty takers and write them down if they score or miss and let you people know, sorted.

Penalty kicks:
1)Grant Holt (Nottingham Forest) – SCORED
1) Jake Sheridan (Notts County) - SCORED
2) Nathan Tyson (Nottingham Forest) – MISSED
2) Austin McCann (Notts County) – SCORED
3) Gary Holt (Nottingham Forest) – MISSED
3) Junior Mendes (Notts County) – MISSED
4) Khalilou Fadiga (Nottingham Forest) – SCORED
4) David Mannix (Notts County) – SCORED
5) Ian Breckin (Nottingham Forest) – MISSED

So after ninety minutes and a dreaded penalty shootout, Notts County have advanced here by three goals to two on penalty kicks and will advance to the second round of the Southern section of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, while Nottingham Forest can concentrate on getting out of trouble as they are mid-table and the FA Cup run, which should start soon.

Coca-Cola league one – match day fifteen

Posted Image V Posted Image

Vegard Heggem today saw his Nottingham Forest boys get a sensational point at Griffin Park in London as the ten men of Forest managed to hold on after they had Kris Commons sent off on the half hour for two bookings, but it was boring match as well.

A ball played in, I think from Fadiga found Grant Holt who could only get his header wide of the mark and off target with about two minutes gone in London.

After a ball was played out left to I think Steve Brooker he surely had to put the Bees in front but his sting was shocking as he could only hit the side netting when he should have scored with five minutes gone.

On the half hour a foul on Brentford’s, Olafur-Ingi Skulason saw Clive Penton call over Kris Commons and showed no hesitation and his second yellow card and the Nottingham Forest midfielder was walking as he was sent off.

Olafur-Ingi Skulason took the short free kick then to Frampton who had played it in to Moore who saw his quick shot parried and brilliantly blocked by the on-loan Tim Krul with half an hour gone in the capital of England.

With the first chance of the second half the home side should have been leading when Jo Kuffour somehow managed to blaze over the bar when with composure it was going to be one-nil.

Fadiga had a free kick, which he put over the crossbar and it didn’t trouble Budtz in the home goal one piece and with fifty-six minutes gone it remained goalless at Griffin Park.

Nathan Tyson really could and should have done better with this effort when he got into the penalty area but he saw his drive go well, well, well off target and the Bees support where probably laughing at how crap it was.

The home side however did score against the ten men five minutes from time when Gavin Tomlin put it home past Krul but the referee’s assistant flagged for offside and it stayed all level.

The referee blew for full time and this match ended all level at nil-nil and Forest will be happier of the two sides even know they drop a place to sixteenth in league one.

Forest sign Walker as assistant
Friday, October 27 2006

Nottingham Forest has completed the signing of York’s assistant manager, Colin Walker to become the new Forest assistant with immediate effect. Forest who had been without an assistant manager for the whole season to date needed one as soon as.

So, Vegard Heggem decided to step up his look for assistants by appointing the York man after Alain Sutter and Steve Clark had said no and knocked back contracts because they had recently joint their new respective clubs of Stoke City and Grays Athletic.

The forty-nine year old from New Zealand will now start work at the City Ground with immediate effect and hopes to have an effect on the squad when they host Brighton and Hove Albion tomorrow (Saturday) in League one.

The New Zealand based man was actually born in Rotherham in Yorkshire and supporters the Millmoor based outfit who Forest had beaten at Millmoor earlier in the campaign thanks to a James Perch free kick, a rare that they won and kept a clean sheet.

He started his staff career at Maltby Main, which saw him leave the club in nineteen ninety three after being appointed in nineteen eighty nine, he stayed out of football all of two days before coming Barnsley coach on the first of July nineteen ninety three but left ten years later on the third of July.

He then spent two years at Leeds United before leaving in May two thousand and five before moving onto York where he spent one year and five months before signing for Nottingham Forest as the assistant.

Coca-Cola league one – match day sixteen

Posted Image V Posted Image

Nottingham Forest manager Vegard Heggem was left fuming at his players are a disgusting and disgraceful performance saw them go down three-nil at home to Brighton and Hove Albion resulting in the players being booed off repeatedly and manager Heggem as his side slipped to seventeenth.

Disgusting defending helped Brighton to open the scoring with their first attack on eleven minutes when Danny Haynes was allowed to ran straight through the Forest back line un-tackled and he slotted the ball straight past Krul.

Nottingham Forest supporters finally had something in the form in chances when Grant Holt blazed the ball well over the top and it caused no problem whatsoever, but at least they had a chance even if it was off target and took forty-one minutes to have one chance to each team worth mentioning.

A ball hit from the wing into Thornton who hit the ball but it sailed off target on fifty-one minutes, as this was a dull boring affair but it was still Brighton & Hove Albion leading by the single goal.

Robinson managed to flick the ball onto Haynes with seventy-four minutes on the clock but his side footer could only go into the side netting and Forest who where playing rubbish got off the hook.

With nine minutes remaining a good Hart ball was played into Haynes whose first time side foot into the back of the net and Brighton where leading two-nil against Nottingham Forest whose fans where starting to get angry.

A minute later and it became three-nil to the away side when Mayo brilliantly played Haynes done the line with a great ball and he managed to plant the ball into the far corner of the net past Krul who was furious.

The full time whistle was blown and the boos from the Nottingham Forest supporters would have been enough to wake the dead from graveyards within a forty mile radius that’s how angry the Forest support where and they don’t get easier in the fixtures.

Ian Moore signs on two-year deal
Monday, October 30 2006

Ian Moore has today signed for Nottingham Forest on a free transfer after he had gotten his contract terminated by mutual consent by Leeds United manager, Alan Curbishley who didn’t rate the thirty-year old at all.

The five foot nine striker who only has a nine for finishing hopes he can score some goals and is valued at eighty thousand pounds, the thirty-year old striker has signed until June two thousand and eight.

Today, Moore is back for his second spell at the City Ground when the last time he had joined for one million pounds where he only scored one goal in fifteen appearances over two seasons before going on-loan to West Ham United.

Ian Moore began his career at Tranmere Rovers and he spent three seasons there scoring twelve goals in fifty-eight appearances before moving to Bradford City where he made six appearances and scored no goals.

He was then to move on to Stockport County after a loan spell at West Ham United where at Stockport he scored twenty goals in about eighty-nine appearances before a move to Burnley in two thousand and one, two thousand and two where he moved for one million pounds.

He spent five seasons at Turf Moor scoring only thirty-seven goals in one hundred and ninety appearances, which saw him average one goal every five games, which isn’t good one bit. He then moved onto Leeds where he didn’t score a single goal in twenty-six appearances before his free move to Forest.

Ian Moore will go straight into the squad for the trip to AFC Bournemouth in the league one encounter at the Fitness First stadium on Saturday.

October round-up
Wednesday, November 1 2006

It’s been a crap month for Nottingham Forest and their supporters as again they could only pick up one league win throughout the month of October two thousand and six, which came at home to Port Vale at the City Ground.

In the process of the month of October, Nottingham Forest where drawn out at home to Lancaster City in the first round of the FA Cup, which will see the match played at the City Ground on the eleventh of November if I remember correctly, a tricky tie.

Forest also crashed out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in the first round of the tie to Notts County of league two when they lost out on penalties by three goals to two, which saw Forest sh*t in front of goal.

Forest will hope for the better month of November.

The player of the month was awarded to Bradford City’s Jermaine Johnson after he had played some couple of good performances during October, Oldham Athletic’s Leon Clarke came at second and David Wetherall of Bradford City came third in the player of the month.

Leon Clarke won the young player of the month during October after he played a number of eye-catching performances for the Latics over the past month the twenty-one year old probably deserved the award, Nathan Doyle of Bradford City as he was on-loan and Danny Haynes for some reason came in at third and he scored a hatrick against Forest lately.

Bradford City’s Colin Todd won the manager of the month for October after he had remained undefeated throughout the whole of October after three wins and a draw from the four league matches played, Martin Ling of Leyton Orient came in at second position and Millwall’s Nigel Spackman got third.

Paul Arnison of Carlisle United won the goal of the month for his goal against Brentford on October twenty eighth, Danny Haynes of Brighton got number two for his goal against Nottingham Forest, I think that was the one that secured the hatrick back on October twenty-eighth and in third was Jermaine Johnson for Bradford City against Crewe Alexandra again on October twenty-eighth.
