Havant & Waterloovile appoint Heggem as manager
Monday, February 5 2007

Posted Image

Just over a month since leaving as manager of Nottingham Forest, Conference South side, Havant and Waterloovile have appointed Vegard Heggem as their new manager with immediate effect after the sacking of Ian Baird just a day before.

The former Forest manager has had unsuccessful appeals at Crewe Alexandra and has been knocked back for the Birmingham City and Charlton Athletic due to ‘inexperience’ but he has not got replies from Southampton and Preston North End and even the America national team.

It’s been a mixed season for the Havant and Waterlooville supporters whose side are lying in eleventh position in the Conference South and want to avoid relegation to the ‘unknown’ leagues, this should be Heggem’s biggest appointment to date as he hopes to get the side into the promotion picture.

He’ll begin his Havant reign with a home match against Bishop’s Stortford at Westleigh Park in Havant as Vegard Heggem hopes to kick off his reign with three points as the media expect to come third so he’ll need impress and quick but I think the chairman will be easy on him as he has only taken over.

Speaking to the BBC, Vegard said – “I now want to put the disgust of the Nottingham Forest behind me and get on with taking or trying to take Havant & Waterlooville up the league within a couple of seasons or until I get sacked if I fail, which I am hoping I don’t”

Did you know: Havant & Waterlooville where only formed in the year nineteen ninety-eight?

Vegard Heggem arrived at Westleigh in Havant to forget about Nottingham Forest, which he will do I hope.

Havant & Waterlooville 3-2 Bishop’s Stortford
Saturday, February 10 2007
Conference South – match day twenty-nine

Posted Image V Posted Image

In what was an eagerly awaited first match of former Nottingham Forest manager, Vegard Heggem he won his match first in charge in a five-goal thriller against Bishop’s at Westleigh Park.

A Brooker free kick played into the penalty area was headed into the back of the net from Paul Harkness and Havant had made a dream start under Heggem on eleven minutes, they led one-nil.

When the clock clicked fifteen minutes in, it should have been one all when somehow Mason couldn’t bundle the ball past Gore in the Waterlooville goal and it remained one for the home side.

Once again Brooker was at the helm when he assisted former Hull striker, Ben Wilkinson and Havant where leading Bishop’s by two goals to nil in this Conference South encounter.

Anthony Pulis then could have added a third goal but he saw his shot skim the top of the crossbar as it stayed the score line it was a minute ago with the home side leading.

On forty-one minutes a huge grown from the home supporters rose when Gill pulled a goal back from a free kick and Bishop’s had hope to get something from this game but it was up to Heggem to stop it.

A foul by Chris Breach on Martin gave the away side hope to get something from this game and Ben Wilkinson was furious with the referee that it wasn’t a penalty and he could be right.

On sixty-three minutes the sides where level from the spot when Smith stepped up and he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way and it was two all in Heggem’s first match.

On seventy-two minutes the home side had regained the lead when Wilkinson was causing trouble down the wing and his cross was flicked into the net from the on-loan Ashley Grimes and it was three.

The visitors had a chance to make it three all when Lockett blazed the ball over the bar when you should have phoned the concentration police because that’s what he needed.

The only sour note of the afternoon came with seventy-six minutes when Chris Breach brought down a Bishop’s Stortford player and the referee awarded him a second yellow card and he was walking.

The probably last chance of the game came deep into added time when Lockett’s cross found Roy Essandoh and the former FA Cup hero for Wycombe a couple of years ago against Leicester couldn’t get the equaliser.

The full time whistle was blown and Vegard Heggem had gotten off to a brilliant start at his new club picking up three points and scoring three goals, the only sour point was conceding two and losing a man unfortunally but what can you do.

Ben Wilkinson scored one and assistant one so deserved the man of the match for his allround performance.

Weston-super-Mare 1-1 Havant & Waterlooville
Saturday, February 17 2007
Conference South – match day thirty

Posted Image V Posted Image

A dominative performance from the home side only saw them leave with a point thanks to a spirited Havant & Waterlooville performance, which has been manager Vegard Heggem remain undefeated and climb to ninth in the league.

It could have caused danger in the ninth minute when a free kick from Pulis, which hit the ball and Havant, had a corner inside the opening ten minutes of this Conference South match.

Ashley Grimes then came close for the visitors as it looked like they would strike first when he saw his drive skim the top of the crossbar and it caused no real danger.

Shane Gore had to be on his toes to deny Walker from opening the goal scoring at Woodspring Park but he managed to punch it over on sixteen minutes.

A great long ball on thirty-four minutes met Ashley Grimes who was allowed to run with the ball and play it into Ben Wilkinson who tapped home and Havant & Waterlooville where leading.

A free kick with their first chance of the second half found Walker who could only flick it on but Shane Gore was allowed to punch it away and remove the danger.

I think it was an Ashley Grimes free kick, which was flicked into the side netting from that man Wilkinson who should have done better and if he did then Havant would have been leading probably two-nil.

Walker should have really equalised when outside the area he went to shoot towards to top corner of the net but it was never causing problems to the goalkeeper Gore.

Another great chance fell to the home side when Hopkins should have put it in but it was a brilliant save from Gore who should be a shoe in for man of the match.

Weston-super-Mare did manage to equalise however in the eighty-sixth minute when a shot beat the crossbar and Kirk was first to react and people can’t say they don’t deserve that equaliser.

The whistle went and it was a brilliant point for Havant & Waterlooville who where on the cosh for most of the match but it’s an unbeaten start for manager, Vegard Heggem

Havant & Waterlooville 1-2 Cambridge City
Saturday, February 24 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-one

Posted Image V Posted Image

Vegard Heggem was to taste defeat for the first time under manager of Havant & Waterlooville by Cambridge City at home by two goals to one but Heggem hopes it isn’t going to make the club go on a bad run.

On seventeen minutes a cross-played into Roache saw his shot not go into the net as I think the Havant goalkeeper managed to stop it crossing the line.

The deadlock was broken with about nine minutes to half time when a ball was flicked on from Roache to James Clark and he put the ball into the back of the net to give Cambridge City the lead.

Byles had a first chance of the game for the home side with the first chance of the second half on forty-eight minutes when Byles curled the ball over the crossbar.

It was one all after a poor clearance saw Gavin Johnson playing in left back position smack one into the back of the net and Havant where level at home against City.

A terrible effort, which really should have been done better when he smashed a shot towards the top corner but it didn’t cost any problems to the Havant goalkeeper.

A ball played into Ben Wilkinson and his header was tipped over the bar from the goalkeeper, you would have banked on him putting the ball home to give them surely the winning goal.

The visitors took the lead in the ninetieth minute when Reed managed to slot the ball past Shane Gore in the Havant goal and Cambridge City had surely scored the winner.

The full time whistle was blown and Havant & Waterlooville had lost to Cambridge City at home, Vegard Heggem’s first defeat in charge but he’ll be looking for a better score line when they travel to Eastbourne Borough in a week.

Sam Reed had opened the scoring for Cambridge City.

Eastbourne Borough 1-4 Havant & Waterlooville
Saturday, March 3 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-two

Posted Image V Posted Image

Havant & Waterloovile returned to winning ways this afternoon with a four-one away victory against Eastbourne Borough, which saw the visitors move back up to tenth in the Conference South table.

With the visitors first meaningful attack they managed to score on two minutes through sweet Ashley Grimes finish, which went straight into the bottom far corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

Dohnal saw his free kick go over the crossbar on thirteen minutes as Eastbourne Borough wanted to make a quick reply in this Conference South encounter.

Another free kick this time on eighteen minutes saw the hosts equalise when a Southam free kick was headed into the net from Ramsey and Eastbourne where level at home much to the delight of their support.

Another free kick from the other wing almost saw the home side go ahead just two minutes later but Creighton couldn’t get the ball on target but it was close.

After being picked out by Ashley Grimes, Ben Wilkinson was allowed to put the visitors ahead for the second time when he saw his shot go into the net off the upright to give Havant a two-one lead.

An Elam corner picked out Krause but he should have made it three-one near the end of the first half but the Eastbourne Borough goalkeeper stopped it from going in.

In added time a poor clearance from Eastbourne goalkeeper, Hook almost caused them trouble but Wilkinson’s drive was only into the side netting and Havant where starting to dominate.

Havant & Waterlooville had a great chance to score a third eleven minutes into the second half when Matt Gray upended a Havant player and the referee had no choice, Jiri Dohnal was so furious he delivered a left hook on a visiting player so it got worse for the home side.

Chris Breach was to step up and he slotted Havant into the lead by three goals to one against a ten man Eastbourne side now because of Dohnal’s stupidly getting a red card.

A quickly taken free kick from who I don’t know because I didn’t see but what I do know is that Ben Wilkinson headed it in at the near post and with sixty-six minutes gone it was four-one and surely all the points where heading to Havant.

A bad defensive mistake almost let in number five for the visitors but Ashley Grimes couldn’t keep the chance on target as he played it out when he could have taken it onto his other foot and tap it in.

The whistle was blown as not much happened and this was sensational away success for Havant & Waterlooville who simply couldn’t believe they had scored four away from home against a team who maybe should have got a better result.

Havant & Waterlooville 2-2 Eastleigh
Tuesday, March 6 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-three

Posted Image V Posted Image

Despite being reduced to ten men early on Eastleigh got a point away to Havant & Waterlooville in the thirty-third match in the league, both teams ended with ten men and four goals shared after a dramatic second half.

On two minutes a reckless challenge by Ben Fillery on a Havant player saw the referee give him a straight red card and already away from home the visitors had to play eighty-eight minutes with ten men.

A free kick on seven minutes almost saw the ten men take the lead when Franks flicked it on but Shane Gore wasn’t going to let him beat him for the opener.

An Elam corner saw Krause head past the post, which never troubled the visiting goalkeeper on thirteen minutes, as it was still goalless.

Byles was next to try his luck from a header just a couple of minutes but he couldn’t keep it on target either as it was never going to trouble Paul Musselwhite.

On thirty-four minutes it looked like Ben Wilkinson was about to put the hosts into the advantage but it got cleared off the line when it looked like it going in the far corner.

Probably the last chance of the first half came in the forty-third minute when Brooker again couldn’t keep his shot on target as Havant where looking useless in front of goal today.

The game was evened up in players when just two minutes into the second half Luke Byles was shown his second yellow card and Havant & Waterlooville where down to ten men.

Ashley Grimes almost broke through but he had placed his shot over the crossbar after a poor clearance and a knockdown from Wilkinson allowed him the shot but it was still goalless.

A shock was on the cards in the fifty-seventh minute when a corner was put into the back of the net from Wring and the visitors had taken a surprise lead.

It took just four minutes for the home side to get level pegging when Ben Wilkinson played in Ashley Grimes who simply couldn’t miss and he didn’t; it was bad defensive mistake from Cornwall who got punished.

Nothing else happened until the last ten minutes when a corner was knocked back into the path of Harkness who put the ball into the net to give Havant the advantage, now they needed to hold it.

It was so cruel for the home supporters because in the second minute of added time the visitors equalised when Wring unleashed a twenty-five yard drive past Shane Gore and it was cruel.

The whistle was blown and it was only a point when it should have been all three for the home supporters but the draw has moved them to eighth as results have gone their way.

Danny Wring scored two goals to earn Eastleigh a point, including a twenty-five yard drive, which saved them a point.

Braintree Town 0-1 Havant & Waterlooville
Saturday, March 10 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-four

Posted Image V Posted Image

After failing to defeat Eastleigh on Tuesday thanks to a ninety-second minute goal, Havant & Waterlooville returned to winning ways with a hard fought one-nil away success to Braintree Town.

Hughes had the first worthwhile chance of the match but his free kick sailed off target with twenty minutes gone from Cressing Road Stadium.

Great work and then a shot should have brought the opening goal as Ashley Grimes basically did most of the work himself but he couldn’t get the effort on target as he was going for the far corner.

Braintree was a whisker from opening the scoring when Hurst had put his shot just over the crossbar, great chance wasted in the twenty-eighth minute.

With the first half coming to a close in this dull affair, Havant broke through when Ashley Grimes had a bit of time to plant the ball past the home goalkeeper in the forty-third minute.

The home supporters will want to know why they weren’t level just three minutes into the restart when Baker was cleaned through and he blazed over the bar when he could have tapped it home.

The home side where missing quite simple chances and this time it was Hurst’s turn to miss a gilt-edge chance after a mistake from Shane Gore gave him the ball but he dallied and then put it past the far post, he should have made it one all.

Baker played in Hughes for the next chance but Hughes’ shot was tipped over the bar from the Havant goalkeeper and it was corner in the sixty-third minute.

With eight minutes remaining a Hughes free kick couldn’t be directed goalwards by Hawes, the chances are there for the home side they just need them on target.

The visitors had a chance to make it two deep into added time but Cambridge’s shot could only find the side netting in the fourth minute of added time at the end.

With probably the last chance of the game, Fitzroy Simpson should have added a second when his deflected drive was cleared off the line as the game was entering the fifth minute of time added.

The full time was blown and it was good win for Havant & Waterlooville in what was really a poor game to tell the truth but it’s three points and stay eighth in the league.

Havant & Waterlooville 1-0 Bognor Regis Town
Saturday, March 17 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-five

Posted Image V Posted Image

Havant & Waterlooville have climbed up the league table after a hard fought one-nil victory at home to Bognor Regis Town, which seem them play over an hour with ten men.

It took the first save only four minutes when a Birmingham cross was tipped over the crossbar from Shane Gore in the Havant goal and it was a good chance.

Pacquette should have done better when he was allowed to have a chance on nine minutes but he blazed straight over the crossbar with the keeper not even troubled.

In this boring game, the home side where reduced to ten men when Lee Elam was shown a straight red card for an apparent dangerous foul, the red came with just twenty-seven minutes gone.

Birmingham’s drive found Nightingale but he couldn’t get his effort on target with forty-one minutes on the clock and the first half coming to the end with both sides still level.

On the hour mark a foul by Steve May on Paul Harkness saw the referee point to the penalty spot and the ten men had a great chance to go ahead, the referee had no choice but to award the penalty.

It took a whole minute for the penalty to actually be taken when Pulis stepped up and he slotted the home side into the lead much to the delight of the home fans.

With the game entering into the last ten minutes, Pulis had a great chance to double the lead but the goalkeeper parried it and Ashley Grimes couldn’t get there on time and it was cleared.

The full time whistle was blown and Havant & Waterlooville picked up a brilliant one-nil score line with only ten men, with those three points Havant have rose to sixth in the league.

Havant & Waterlooville 2-2 Bedford Town
Saturday, March 24 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-six

Posted Image V Posted Image

Two goals in added time was enough to see Bedford Town earn an unlikely draw at Havant & Waterlooville, which saw the home side drop one position.

The first chance worth noting came in the fifteenth minute of the match when a low cross from Ashley Grimes found Pacquette who has no idea how he missed when he should have scored.

The next chance was the same as the first but this time Paquette crosses for Ashley Grimes the Bedford goalkeeper parried whose first time shot on nineteen minutes.

On the stroke of half time and at the end of a very dull half Havant finally broke through when Grimes was allowed to dribble right through the back line before unleashing a drive past Crowther and the hosts where leading with half time looming.

On sixty-two minutes a corner from Breach went straight into the Bedford goalkeeper’s arms, terrible corner, he really should have done much better with it.

A minute later the second goal did arrive for the home side when Paquette who has been causing problems all afternoon saw his cross half a poor clearance from Eustace and Pulis was there to punish him and give Havant a second goal.

With the game going into added time a Eustace corner was headed into the back of the net from Cavill and Bedford had late hope but surely people thought it was only a consolation goal for the visitors.

An absolute disaster from Hewson saw him score an own goal in the fifth minute of added time much to the disgust of the home supporters; it was a horror moment for the left back.

The full time whistle was blown and somehow Bedford managed to steal a two-two draw at Westleigh Park in Havant this afternoon.

Haha, you’ll just need to be a wee patient lad now won’t you as I still need to also write up my match against Farnborough recently, which I have already played but I just need to do the match report and I am sorted.

Cheers mate, yeah I think Nottingham Forest football club was a tad too small for the managerial skills of young Vegard Heggem as he seems to be doing better at Havant & Waterlooville than he did at Forest in league one.

I won’t get carried away despite the good start I have made.

Yeah, you’ve got it right there mate about the break I have actually needed for at least a couple of months while I was at Forest, f***ing up results by the match and I thought I was going to be relegated so who thought me resigning would be a good idea?

I’m seventh at the moment after the draw with Bedford Town, but it’s still looking good for promotion, I will not get promoted automatically but I can still make the play-offs if I can finish between second and fifth.

Cheers mate, more is coming (I don’t know tomorrow as I am going to the Bangor game in Derry to face Institute) so probably some tomorrow night depending on how I feel.

I’ll edit this post I have made once I load up the game as I will have an exact date for the match, as I can’t remember off by heart but I think I did play them earlier in the season, well, I didn’t the other manager did but I can’t remember the scoreline.

EDITED: I am sorry to disappoint you mate, but I have already played Hayes twice this season (well, like I said I didn't the previous manager did) anyway, we lost the away league match by two goals to one at the end of August and drew at home two-two back in January.

Hopefully, I do not need to play them next season as I am looking for promotion although I want too so I can beat them. :D

Farnborough 2-3 Havant & Waterlooville
Saturday, March 31 2007
Conference South – match day thirty-seven

Posted Image V Posted Image

After being disappointed by a late, late goal in their last match at home to Bedford, it was Havant who scored the late goal today with four minutes remaining, which turned out to be the winner in a hard fought match against Farnborough.

On six minutes it took for the first chance to arrive when a corner was headed past the post from Hopper and it was never going to trouble the Havant goalkeeper, Shane Gore.

Havant & Waterlooville had their first chance on target in the twenty-sixth minute when a Pulis free kick was brilliantly tipped away from the Farnborough goalkeeper.

It took thirty-four minutes for the deadlock to be broken when Byles was in space and he slotted the ball past Venter in the Farnborough goals and Havant had the lead Cheerywood Road.

The home side hit back almost immodestly when a Stuart Niven free kick curled straight past Shane Gore and the home side where level within four minutes of conceding.

Hopper blazed a shot over the crossbar from just outside the penalty area but it was never, ever troubling Gore in the visiting goal with forty-two minutes gone.

Niven blazed over the crossbar with two minutes gone just outside the penalty area but it never troubled the goalkeeper, as it remained level at one apiece.

On fifty-six minutes, Harkin had put the visiting fans into delight when he perfectly placed a cracker free kick about twenty yards out and it was Farnborough one, Havant & Waterlooville two.

After being put through, Neil Campbell had a chance to put the home side level pegging at two each but he couldn’t beat Gore and then the linesman had raised his flag for offside on sixty-five minutes gone.

It took seventy-two minutes and a terrible goalkeeping moment from Gore to see the home fans celebrate scoring their second equaliser of the match when Gore failed to clear the ball, Hatch took it off him and slotted the run away ball into the back of the empty net.

With five minutes remaining, Venter tipped the ball over the crossbar but I am not too sure who got the final touch for the keeper to stop it and it was a late corner to Havant & Waterlooville.

A minute later from the corner taken by Harkin and it was headed into the back of the net by Tom Jordan who was one of the defenders brought in because the other two went back to their clubs beat the goalkeeper and surely they had scored the winner as they led for a third time.

Once again there was a late bad moment for Havant & Waterlooville when I think it was a free kick was flicked into the back of the net from Liam Hatch and it was three-three, well at least that’s what he thought but the referee’s linesman came to the visitors rescue by disallowing the goal and it stayed three-two to Havant.

Again the home side came close to scoring an equaliser four minutes into added time when Charles got the shot away but Holbrook scrambled it off the line and surely they had the win now.

The whistle was blown and this was a deserved win for the visitors at the end of the day who had the lead three times in this match and it was third time lucky as they managed to hold onto it, Havant move up to fifth.

Tom Jordan scored what ended up being the winning goal against Farnborough today in the Conference South.

Dear readers

Sorry that there was no updates wrote up yesterday due to me going to the Institute v Bangor away match at the Riverside stadium in Drumahoe, which saw him draw one-one in our sixth First Division game as we remained undefeated, anyway this isn’t about my spare time at the moment.

However, it was a long, long trip which took two hours to get there, ninety minutes for the game and two hours back into Bangor but we did stop for food but the food their was stinking and I sure don’t want to go back there in a long, long time.

But not too worry, the story is not dead but far from it as I am not finished trying to send Havant & Waterlooville to the Barclays Premiership within a ten year period, which I hope to succeed and send this story to the Susie hall of fame when I have finished it, which if I have my way wont be until the 2008 football manager is released, but I won’t promise it lasting that long.

I have about five games remaining the Conference South season plus play-offs if I manage to get there so be prepared, but I wont be able to update much from tomorrow due to me starting volunteer work at the Balloo Centra store for about six months but I will still update when I can (probably only one a day however or more, depending on how I feel)

Today, I will load up the game and play my next Conference South fixture, which I have no clue who it is against to be honest, so don’t ask and you just need to wait and see but I do think it’s at home however.

I hope you will continue to enjoy reading "From Nottingham to Havant...” for the foreseeable future for as long as it lasts but when I start the volunteer work, I will work from 9-5:30, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and spend Thursday and Friday in college but I don’t know what times those are from so be patient.

Sorry for the inconvenience this might have caused. Hehe, yeah I sounded quite professional there.

Ah well, undefeated against Havant and Waterlooville :D

Show us a pic of the league table at the end of the season
