History
Rangers Football Club (Plc) were founded in 1873 by, surprisingly, a group of Englishman. The current chairman of the football club is Sir David Murray. Murray has been with the club through thick and thin, and he was the man behind Rangers’ infamous nine in a row success. Despite this, he has come under serious scrutiny by a section of the loyal Rangers support. Rangers have been second best to their rivals across the city for several years, but the new management team are looking to avenge this with success in the following season.
Paul Le Guen

At the beginning of the season, Rangers fans were given hope of overturning their rivals when Rangers chairman Sir David Murray appointed highly-rated Frenchman Paul Le Guen to the helm at Ibrox. Nothing went right for Le Guen and his short reign ended with him earning the hatred of the Rangers support. Sir David Murray was left with no other option but to say ‘au revoir’ to the Frenchman after a falling out with club captain Barry Ferguson.
A New Regime
Walter decided to return home!
After the departure of Frenchman Paul Le Guen, Sir David Murray decided to revert to a tried-and-tested manager - Walter Smith. Murray had to negotiate with the Scottish Football Association in order to release Smith from his contract, and when he finally did, he received the adulation of the Rangers supporters.
Walter Smith came in - and he brought with him, former Rangers legend, Ally McCoist and, former Celtic coach, Kenny McDowall as his coaching staff. His first job was to ’sure’ up the defence. To do this, defensive trio Andy Webster, David Weir and Ugo Ehiogu were brought in from Wigan (on loan), Everton and Middlesbrough respectively.
Walter Smith was to save one big signing for the end of the respective transfer window. From under the noses of Old-Firm rivals Celtic, he managed to snatch Hibernian’s Kevin Thomson for a fair sum of around two million pounds.
The summer window so far has brought the Rangers careers of Dado Prso, Stefan Klos and Gavin Rae to an end - as all left at the end of their contracts, with Prso and Klos calling it a day on their career. Along with the expiration of these contracts, Karl Svensson has made his way to French Ligue 2 side Caen.
In order to bolster his squad for the coming season, Walter Smith has already brought Alan Gow, Jean-Claude Darcheville, Kirk Broadfoot, DaMarcus Beasley and Graeme Smith to the Ibrox club. In addition to this, Walter Smith has also managed to secure Andy Webster on loan for another period until January, in order for the FIFA ruling to be sorted out. Although Rangers have strengthened so far, they must still look to improve on their squad before their long and possibly arduous campaign.
Beasley - one of the new signings!

After long negotiations with fellow Clydesdale Bank Premier League side Kilmarnock, Rangers have finally managed to secure the signing of long-term transfer target Steven Naismith. BBC Sport Football understands that the twenty year-old has put pen to paper on four year deal.
Naismith began his career at Clydesdale Bank Premier League side Kilmarnock at the tender age of fifteen. He joined Kilmarnock’s youth academy and managed to break into the side in only his second season before becoming a fixture in what was proving to be a formidable Kilmarnock side.
The Scottish striker was subject to extreme interest from both halves of the Old-Firm and English clubs such as Bristol City and, the Old-Firms Edinburgh rivals, Hearts also joined the race for the highly-rated youngster. Many people were expecting Naismith to opt for Rangers, but the transfer fee was proving difficulty in what turned out to be a lucrative transfer for Kilmarnock.
The eventual fee agreed was believed to be around £1.5M. Rangers are believed to have paid around one million pounds up front, with the rest of the money coming in instalments over the coming year. When asked, Naismith was quick to express his determination to do well for the club:
Naismith “I came here because I love the club and I want to do well for Rangers. They were always my first choice if possible, and I was delighted to hear that the they had managed to agree terms with Kilmarnock. I can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season with all the lads that I look forward to meeting.”
Naismith becomes Walter Smiths’ sixth signing of the summer as the Scotsman looks to prepare his side for the coming season. Upon prompting, Smith expressed his delight at the capture of Naismith: Smith “I am delighted to have finally signed Steven. He is a great player and he has the right frame of mind to be a Rangers player.”
Meanwhile, Smith remained tight-lipped over possible signings, but he failed to rule anything out: Smith “It is true we are in the market for a few players but we are just waiting on a few bids to be either accepted or rejected and we will take it from there.” The rumours that are circulating around Ibrox are still suggesting the usual ‘suspects’ including Manchester United’s Alan Smith but the English striker’s price tag could rule him out for a move to Ibrox.
Naismith will be able to join up with former team-mate Kris Boyd upon his move!

Rangers Stars Told: Time’s Up
Four Rangers stars have been told that they have to find new clubs by Rangers manager Walter Smith. BBC Sport Football understands that the Scotsman held crunch talks with Sasa Papac, Ugo Ehiogu, Libor Sionko and Thomas Buffel.
Bosnian Sasa Papac joined the Ibrox club at the beginning of the Paul Le Guen era and he was one of three players that were brought in by the Frenchman from Austria Vienna. Papac cost Rangers nearly half a million pounds and they will be looking to redeem, if not that, more. This news may alert clubs such as Newcastle and Manchester City as they have recently expressed an interest in the twenty-six year-old.

****
Englishman Ugo Ehiogu was one of Walter Smith’s first signings when he returned to the blue-half of Glasgow, but the former Middlesbrough man has now been deemed surplus to requirements at Ibrox. The thirty-three year-old could be available for a fairly low fee of around two-hundred thousand pounds. Recently relegated Leeds could be the suitors for the massive Englishman who will always be remembered by Rangers fans for his overhead kick against their old-firm rivals.

****
Czech Republic international Libor Sionko, along with Papac, joined the club from Austrian side Austria Vienna. Sionko cost Rangers absolutely nothing when Paul Le Guen came to the club but Rangers could demand nearly two million pounds for the out-of-favour winger. But, according to reports only Sporting Lisbon from Portugal can meet Rangers’ valuation of the player.

****
Belgium international star Thomas Buffel has been at the Glasgow club since the time of, now Scotland manager, Alex McCleish. Buffel was bought for a hefty two and a half million pounds back in January of 2004 and Rangers will be looking to recoup their money for the goalscoring midfielder. Many clubs, including Premiership side Derby and French side Marseille, are said to be suited for the two million rated midfielder.
Buffel - One of four set to depart!

Rangers manager Walter Smith is in close contact with Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, over two possible loan signings. Lee Martin and Chris Eagles are on the Scotsman’s radar as he looks to strengthen the squad at Ibrox. (Club Website)
Three former Rangers players are set for trials with their former club. Charlie Miller, Craig Moore and Duncan Ferguson are all set for a single week trial at Murray Park that could make or break their future. Although, this will depend on whether the trio decide to take up the opportunity. (Various)
Yet more trialists could be set for Murray Park as Walter Smith and his coaching staff look to expand their squad for the forthcoming season. Former Wigan duo Arjen De Zeeuw and David Thompson are set for talks with Rangers if they have a successful trial period with the Glasgow club. (Daily Record)
Rangers’ chief executive Martin Bain is set for contract talks with English trio Lee Grant, Stephen Jordan and David Unsworth. Former Derby ‘keeper Grant would provide backup to Allan McGregor and Graeme Smith while former Premiership duo David Unsworth and Stephen Jordan would provide much needed cover for the defence. Clydesdale Bank Premier League side Hibernian are tonight at risk of losing yet another of their star assets. So far this summer they have already lost Chris Killen and Scott Brown to Old-Firm side Celtic, which was accompanied with the departure of former captain Kevin Thomson to Celtics rivals Rangers.
The man in question this morning is Scottish under-21 international star Steven Whittaker. Their has been a recurring link with the Ibrox side and the full-back since Walter Smith took over and, according to the players agent, a deal could be close to completion.
Agent “Myself and Steven are currently in talks with Rangers. He has expressed an extreme interest in joining them and I am working hard to make this move happen for Steven. It has always been a dream for him to make such a big move and when the two clubs agree a fee, the player will move to Glasgow.”
Although Whittaker’s agent was quite happy to talk about a possible move for the twenty-two year-old full-back, the player himself declined to comment. Likewise the Hibernian management also declined to comment on the subject but Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie released this statement:
Petrie “We know nothing of any deal. Rangers have not been in contact and until they contact us, there is nothing to discuss. We do know of previous interest from Rangers for Steven, but that was back in January and nothing new has happened since. If Rangers are talking to the players agent, then we could have them done for ‘tapping’ our player, who is under contract. So, I believe that the agent is just trying to stir the speculation to make a ‘quick-buck’.”
Strong words from Hibernian chairman Rod Petrie point all roads towards the agent trying to mix the pot and get other clubs interested in his player. Although this may be true as BBC Sport Football understands that Rangers are about to table a bid of around one million pounds.
Whittaker could become a Rangers player within days!

Old-Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic are set to battle it out for two million pound rated full-back Lee Wallace. The eighteen year-old Scotsman could favour the Bhoys in order to boost his title chances. (The Sun)
Although, contrary to these reports, Newcastle could be set to win the race for the highly-rated under-21 internationalist. (Daily Star)
If Rangers miss out on Wallace, they could be set to renew their interest for Hibernian defender Steven Whittaker who could cost the Ibrox club around two and a half million pounds. (Daily Record)
But, according to many sources, Rangers will not be moving for either of these players and they are in talks with Aston Villa who are ready to cash in on youngster Craig Gardner. (Daily Mirror)

Aberdeen’s new signing Jeffrey De Visscher was on song for the northerners as rivals’ Rangers, looked to shake off the shackles of their midweek victory in the second qualifying stage of the Champions League. De Visscher was at the centre of chances and he was the man to set up team-mate Chris Clark who failed to find the back of the net with his wayward effort.
The massive Rangers’ away support were sent into raptures when their team grabbed the opener. Aberdeen’s Darren Mackie brought down Alan Gow on the right-hand side. The resulting free-kick led to Scottish under-21 star Charlie Adam grabbing the opener with a stunning header from the periphery of the eighteen yard area to fire the Gers into the lead. 0-1, Rangers - Adam (60)
Rangers’ jubilation was not long-lived as they were pegged back only five minutes after taking the lead. Darren Mackie was the creator as he drove from his own half to set up the chance for former Hearts player Lee Miller. The Scotsman then drove the ball past fellow Scot, ‘keeper McGregor to fire the Aberdonians back into the match. 1-1, Aberdeen - Miller (65)
But, Aberdeen were soon to feel the wrath of a formerly disappointing player. For the second game running, Slovakian striker Filip Sebo fired into the back of the net. Alan Hutton was the creator, the Scotsman sent the ball over to internationalist Sebo, who sent the ball screaming past Aberdeen ‘keeper Jamie Langfield. 1-2, Rangers - Sebo (76)
Match Reaction
This slender win for the Gers means that they now have a one hundred percent record for the new season as they look to challenge champions Celtic. Scotsman Charlie Adam has claimed today’s man of the match award and the under-21 star truly deserved it as he grabbed the opener to set Rangers on their way to their three points today.
Adam was on top form for the Gers' tonight!
Aberdeen 1-2 Rangers
Miller (65) - Adam (60) & Sebo (76)

Good story mate, but I think you will find out that Lee Miller is a fellow Scot. He was born in Lanarkshire.
Sorry for being pedantic though.
