GIBSON WONDERSTRIKE SINKS GERMANS

Tottenham 1 - 0 Bayern Leverkusen

A thirty yard wonderstrike from Irish under twenty one international Darren Gibson gave Spurs all three points in their Uefa Cup Group F match against German side Bayern Leverkusen at White Hart Lane in front of thirty six thousand spectators.

On a cold december night the game was basically a dead rubber as both sides had qualified from the group. The tag dead rubber suited the game as it was a boring affair with little or no action and with most players going through the motions it seemed more like a friendly than a Uefa Cup game until of course Darren Gibson decided to step up and score his first goal for the club.

Gibson picked the ball up inside his on half before eventually receiving it back outside the box, he let rip and his powerful shot found the top corner in remarkable fashion as it dipped and swerved. Gibsons strike seperated the sides at the end of the ninety minutes and it was a great moment for the youngster as he pressed his claims for a first team spot.

Gibson will eventually get a full Irish cap scoring goals like the one he did against Leverkusen

English Premier League

Villa Park

Aston Villa 1 - 1 Tottenham

Tottenham and Spurs shared the spoils in a very entertaining game today at Villa Park. With a total of twenty two shots the only problem that came from the game was wheter Robinson or Carson should get the man of the match award as both where outstanding.

Tottenham took the lead withing one minute when a floated cross by Bent found the head of Berbatov who flicked the ball past Carson and had Kevin Hancock jumping for joy on the touchline. It was the perfect start that Tottenham where hoping for.

The remainder of the first half was save after save from both keepers. Ashley Young had a great chance after Petrov put him through one on one with Robsinson but the former Watford player couldnt beat Robinson. Bent then hit the bar with a long distance drive before King had a header cleared off the line by Mellberg. Both sides deserved the break at half time and the fans could only hope for more after the break.

And they got it, within two minutes of the restart Carew would have thought he had levelled only for him to been called offside by the referees assistant and the fine finish wouldnt stand. Just on the hour mark Luke Moore was thrown into the action and the Villa academy graduate was quick to make an impact as he levelled matters ten minutes after his introduction.

With time running out Young won the ball out left of Bale before finding Barry in the middle. The Villa skipper switched play to Derek Boateng who bent a ball around Chimbonda for Moore to attack and attack he did as he got his foot to ball before Dawson and steered the ball past Robinson to make it Aston Villa one Tottenham one, both sides tryed to score a winner but it was a day in which both keepers kept attackers at bay.

EVANS AND CERNY RETURN TO THEIR CLUBS

Jonathon Evans and Radek Cerny have both had their loan deals terminated by Tottenham Sky Sports can reveal.

Evans who joined on a year long loan deal from Manchester United started four games for Spurs this season but his performances where well under what had been expected of the talented youngster and his appearances stopped and Hancock has decided to let the youngster return to Old Trafford.

Cerny also had his loan deal terminated as Spurs have confirmed they will be signing thirty one year old Ajax keeper Dennis Gentenaar for one million pound once the transfer window opens. Cerny made two appearances for Tottenham in his time at White Hart Lane but he was never expected to become first choice over Paul Robinson.

English Premier League

White Hart Lane

Tottenham 2 - 2 Everton

Tottenham threw away another two points and a two goal lead at that against a resillient yet second best Everton side when they should have won the game after racing into a two goal lead.

Darren Bents sixth goal of the campaign after eleven minutes put Tottenham on track for a vital win at home and ten minutes after half time Steed Malbranque was on target with an unlikley header to double the Spurs lead and put them on the verge of a big win before their North London derby against Arsenal.

But Evertons Yakubu had other ideas and struck twice within six minutes to level it up and give David Moyes men a fighting chance in trying to qualify for European football next season.

Yakubus first was an easy header from just two yards out after a Mikel Arteta freekick evaded everyone and with Yakubu lurking at the back post all alone, the Nigerian international headed home to give the Toffes some hope. His second goal was a neat finish after Australian Tim Cahill had done most of the work out wide before pulling the ball back across the box where the Nigerian used the outside of his boot to curl the ball by Robinson and in via the framework.
