STUBBORN CITY HOLD LIVERPOOL
Shay Given helped his Manchester City side hold impotent Liverpool to a goalless draw today at Anfield.
Dalglish opted to go with Jamie Carragher ahead of Martin Skrtel for the first 'big' clash of Liverpool's season and Javier Mascherano also returned in place of Yoann Gourcuff. City welcomed back Simon Kjaer and Pablo Zabaleta from injury.
In a match of few meaningful chances, Man City should have clinched it with the last kick of the game, however Jô could only scoop over from close range. Liverpool's best chance came from Carlos Tevez - but he could only blast wide from 15 yards. Tevez is still goalless after six competitive games for the Reds. Other chances fell throughout the match to Stuart Downing, Mascherano, Daniel Sturridge, Robinho, Antonio Valencia, Daniel Agger and Fernando Torres.
After the two week international break, Liverpool face Aston Villa at Villa Park. Mark Hughes' side welcome Fulham.

REDS INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP
Tevez to miss time

REDS INTERNATIONAL ROUND-UP
Tevez to miss time
Fernando Torres scored three for Spain in their EURO 2012 qualifiers against Macedonia and Israel. However Carlos Tevez did not have such a good day; as he suffered a dislocated shoulder in Argentina's win over Chile and will be out of action until at least November. Martin Skrtel (Slovakia), Steven Gerrard (England), Glen Johnson (England), Krisztian Nemeth (Hungary), Robert Huth (Germany), Daniel Agger (Denmark), Clarence Seedorf (Netherlands), Hernanes (Brazil), Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria), Javier Mascherano (Argentina), and Antonio Valencia (Ecuador) also played games.
The first under-21 Liverpool player to represent was Adam Hammill. He set up a goal for the England under-21's against their Estonian counterparts. Aly Cissokho, a late call-up to the French under-21 squad, managed to score a brace for his nation in their win over Macedonia. Also representing their countries at this level were Elemer Toth (Hungary), Gerardo Bruna (Argentina), Nikola Saric (Denmark), Radovan Majoros (Slovakia), Michelle Rossetti (Switzerland), Marco Farina (Italy), Dean Bouzanis (Australia), and Joakim Olsen (Norway). Daniel Pacheo (Spain), Michael Burns (Scotland), and Martin Kelly (England) also played for their countries at under-19 level.
The club will seek due compensation from the Argentinian Football Association for the injury Tevez suffered because of the time he is set to miss. All other players reported back to Melwood today with no injury concerns ahead of Saturday's trip to Aston Villa.

VILLA GO TOP AT REDS EXPENSE
Liverpool were never able to recover from an early setback to win at Villa Park, where they were steam-rolled by the Premier League's suprise so far, Aston Villa.
Due to Carlos Tevez's shoulder injury suffered on Argentina injury, Alvaro Negredo partnered Torres up front. Villa were still without Tomas Hubschmann.
In only the fifth minute Liverpool were down to ten men. A rash challenge by Glen Johnson on ex-Red Andrea Dossena led to Steve Bennett giving him his marching orders. Dossena, who was later revealed to have suffered a heavily brusied shin, was replaced immediately by Stiliyan Petrov. The resulting free-kick was duly dispatched into the top-corner by Gabriel Agbonlahor to give the home side the lead.
Villa continued to press home their one-man advantage and soon doubled their lead. Raul Meireles' piledriver from 35 yards was never going to be stopped by Reina. Minutes later, Agbonlahor scored his second from close range to make Villa comfortable. John Carew could have made it four before half-time if Reina had not been spectacularly equal to his effort.
Dalglish's reaction to the first half mauling was a tactical reshuffle. Alvaro Negredo was sacrificed for Martin Skrtel, allowing Gerrard to move back into the midfield with Torres playing the lone striker role. However, Liverpool could not produce enough to claw back a point; The only chance Liverpool truly capitalized on was after Martin Skrtel's header was disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper, Torres latched onto the poor free-kick and lobbed Rob Green in the Villa goal.
It was not to be a Hollywood ending though. Emile Heskey cooly slotted home after a lazy backpass from Aly Cissokho found his feet.
Liverpool would be relieved to have heard the final whistle; despite the fact that they've now slipped down to sixth place. Aston Villa, on the other hand, are top of the table now after six games played.
Liverpool host Fernando Torres' old club Athletico Madrid midweek in the Champion's League, whilst Aston Villa also play midweek in Turkey against Besiktas.
