Ferguson announces shock retirement
United boss retires after 25 years in charge of the club
By Peter Fraser - Follow me: @SkySportsPeteF. Last Updated: May 30th, 2011

Sir Alex Ferguson has shocked the footballing world by deciding to retired as the manager of Manchester United after being in charge for almost 25 years.
The announcement comes just two days after Manchester United's embarrassing 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League final at the Wembley.
Ferguson, 69, at the start of the season had dismissed rumors about retiring at the end of the season. But told the press conference at United's training center Carrington that the pressures of managing a top-class team were becoming too great for a man of his age and he would now like to see a young man in charge of the club.
After much consideration Ferguson said: "I have managed Manchester United for almost 25 years and I have won every single trophy I have ever dreamt of. The pressures have built up so much during my 50 years in the game that I felt it was time to rest. Obviously its disappointing to retire but everyone has to face it one day and my time has come now.
"I have managed the best clubs in the world during my time. Over here at Manchester United, I have been lucky enough to have won so many trophies. I have worked with the best players in the world and at the same time seen young players grow up to be the best players. As a manager that's what you dream of - guiding the club to success by winning silverware and developing young players to become the world's best. That's what has happened over here at Old Trafford.
"There are so many people I want to thank and, I will start with all the board members of all the clubs I have managed. Starting from East Stirlingshire all the way to Manchester United. Without their support and faith in my abilities, I won't be sitting over here. Also, I would like to thank all the players and coaches who have worked with me because without their help any success won't have been possible at all. And finally, the fans, who have always shown me unbelievable support during my good and bad times.
"I am looking forward to new experiences in life and this club will always have a special place in my heart. However, the most important thing now is for the club to continue with the success by appointing a new young suitable manager who can carry forward my legacy and take Manchester United to even bigger heights."
Sir Alex is football's longest serving manager ever. He took over United in 1986 and has since had a superlative record of achievement. Ferguson has made Manchester United the best team in country by winning 19 league titles which surpassed Liverpool's record of 18 league titles. During his time at Old Trafford, the Scot has won 12 league titles, 2 Champions Leagues, 5 FA Cups, 4 League Cups, a record 10 FA Community Shields and 1 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and FIFA Club World Cup each.
Ferguson has created so many great teams at United that have gone on and won so many titles and one of the those team was the famous "Class of 92". The team won the 1992 FA Youth Cup and most of them in the team went on to create history by winning the treble in 1999.

David Beckham who was the part of the "Class of 92" said: "It's a very sad day for Manchester United and the world of football. This news comes as a shock for me as I never expected it. I thought he still had 2-3 years left in him. To be like a club at Manchester United for almost 25 years is a huge huge achievement. I am very lucky and honored to have played under him.
"As a child, its always a dream to get a chance to play for a your dream club, my boyhood dream club Manchester United let alone to win what we have won but to play for the Red Devils was the biggest dream and he helped me in fulfilling it. He will be sorely missed at the club and I am sure there will be no one who will ever get close to what he has achieved at the club.
"It's an end of era and it's going to be very difficult for the club to replace a man like Sir Alex Ferguson. I wish him the best for his future life and I hope he takes up some role at Manchester United and helps the club in its progress."
All attention will surely be focused on who will replace the Scot after his decision to retire from the game. Below is a comprehensive list of all the trophies Ferguson won in his time at Manchester United.

The Red Army

The Red Army (Charlton Athletic F.C)

Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional football club based in Charlton, in the London Borough of Greenwich. They compete in Football League One, the third tier of English football. The club was founded on 9 June 1905, when a number of youth clubs in the southeast London area, including East Street Mission and Blundell Mission, combined to form Charlton Athletic. The club play at The Valley in Charlton, where they've played since 1919, apart from one year in Catford, during 1923–24, and seven years at Crystal Palace and West Ham United between 1985–1992. Charlton share local London rivalries with Millwall, Crystal Palace and West Ham.
The club's traditional kit consists of red shirts, white shorts and red socks and their most commonly used nickname is The Addicks. Charlton turned professional in 1920 and first entered the Football League in 1921. Since then they have had four separate periods in the top flight of English football: between 1936–1957, 1986–1990, 1998–1999 and 2000–2007. Historically, Charlton's most successful period was the 1930s, when the club's highest league finishes were recorded, including runners-up of the First Division in 1937. After World War II, the club reached the FA Cup Final twice, losing in 1946 and winning in 1947.
As a young manager having a past experience of playing Sunday League Football, my aim is to make Charlton Athletic one of the best clubs, not only in England but also in the world. Its going to be a very tough challenge as they are currently playing in League 1 and its going to take a lot of time but I am up for it. So wish me some luck.

This is my first career on FM 12 and I am hoping I can continue with this for a long time, lets see. I have put my past experience as "Sunday League Footballer" and have decided to start it with a nPower Championship side Portsmouth FC. Honestly speaking I haven't played in the Championship a lot so this comes to me as a huge challenge. My challenge is to become the 'Sir Alex Ferguson' of Portsmouth and help them become the best team in the world. This challenge is not going to be easy at all keeping in mind everything surrounding the club and the finances at the club but Impossible is Nothing.

Dalglish signs three-year deal
Anfield legend Dalglish confirmed as Liverpool manager
By Rob Parrish - Follow me on Twitter @skysportsrobp. Last Updated: June 1st, 2011

Anfield legend Kenny Dalglish has been appointed as permanent manager of Liverpool on a three-year deal.
The Scot has been in temporary charge since replacing Roy Hodgson in January, overseeing an impressive revival in the club's form as they climbed from 12th in the table – and only four points above the relegation zone – to sixth. The first-team coach, Steve Clarke, has also signed a three-year contract.
Dalglish told Liverpool's website: "I said when I took the job on in January that I was just happy to help the club out for the remainder of the season. Now the owners have decided that they want me to stay a little longer and it's fantastic news for both myself and Steve Clarke that we have signed these contracts.
"This is a unique football club and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to help build something special here again. I want to salute the efforts of all the players as they have been fantastic and thank everyone at the club for the welcome they have given me since I returned in January."
John W Henry, the principal owner via his stake in Fenway Sports Group, said there was no one else in the frame for the job.
"Kenny is a legendary Liverpool figure both as a supremely gifted footballer and successful manager. Since returning in January he has shown extraordinary leadership and the ability to bring the best out of so many people associated with the club.
"It was obvious to us very early on that the atmosphere surrounding the club had been transformed by his presence. No one else could have produced such a response. Therefore, I'm delighted we have agreed to a new contract. We didn't need nor want to look elsewhere for the right man to manage the team."
Liverpool's director of football, Damien Comolli, said: "We didn't really look elsewhere because Kenny turned things around very quickly, with the help of Steve Clarke. For us, it was a no-brainer."
