MAN CITY SACK MANCINI

Manchester City announced today the shock sacking of Italian manager Roberto Mancini, just six months into his position at the club. The Italian had a turbulent spell at City, replacing Mark Hughes half-way through the season was not a move either fans or players enjoyed.
High profile bust ups with Craig Bellamy, Carlos Tevez and Emmanuel Adebayor certainly did not help the precarious position Mancini held at Eastlands. Rumours circling the club have stated that Mancini's iron fist ruling, double training sessions and negative football failed to get the dressing room or boards support.
Khaldoon Al Mubarak released a short statement via the clubs website, mcfc.com, attacking the manager and his credentials. "Roberto Mancini has turned out not to be the replacement we sought. Relations between the players and management became too tense within the club to bring the success we deserve. Many of the issues regarding the squad stemmed from the manager, we could not allow that to continue."
City are now once again in the search for a new manager, the club are already looking for a third manager since Sheikh Mansour took control of the club in September 2008. "We have a shortlist of candidates, with one manager especially in mind. It's not the time to announce targets, it's something we must work on around the clock to ensure we get the right man for the club."
The sacking of Mancini comes as a huge surprise, given the club have given him such free reign in the transfer market before parting ways with the Italian. Mancini began his rebuilding during last season, running up a bill of £116million in transfers before his departure. Not to mention the decision to loan Craig Bellamy and Emmanuel Adebayor to Cardiff City and Real Madrid respectively.
A £3.6million payoff may aid the proud Italian as he returns home to lick his wounds, bringing the clubs financial backing of Mancini to well over £150million. Mancini refused to comment today, but one distraught fan did sum up the City fans feelings, "We want to win things, but how are we going to do that if we switch manager every couple of months. I hope the next manager is here for the long haul."
