Not a classic this. Good effort/save from Hazard/Lloris then though.

The answers to our tactical problems are so obvious but he's not making them.

Well what are they?

I don't think its as simple as you make out. Yeah, sure I'd drop Rooney, too. But we've always had players that we individually pin-point as part of the problem and invariably doing what the fans want doesn't improve it as much as people think it will. Under Moyes it was Kagawa this and Kagawa that, and then when Kagawa played he was mediocre. Last season it was RVP and Falcao. And even Januzaj. Hell earlier in the season it was Herrara needs to play No 10. and he has hardly set the world alight either.

I just think we've got a bunch of players who far various reasons aren't at the required standard. Rooney is done, we know that, but if you drop him then what do you do? Martial's been as bad upfront as he has on the left wing over the past month -yes he's double marked every game, and yes he's trying to make things happen, but he has not sparkled- Memphis has only looked remotely like a footballer for about 30 minutes combined when playing as a striker. Lingard's been bright, but his end-product isn't good enough yet. And Mata has been invisible. If they were all simultaneously in form we might look good, but they're not so we don't.

Now, obviously, when we task 4 players with attacking and one of them, in Rooney, is statistically one of the worst players in the league its going to make the others look worse. But dropping hims not a magic wand. That said, if dropping Rooney allows Mata to get in to the game more, than it should make us better, but Mata's to blame for his form, too, and his forms been dire.

Could work out to be a good weekend for us if we can get the win against Swansea, fingers crossed Norwich can do us a favour as well and take points of Arsenal

Apparently Sanchez had an injury before the game even started, what is Wenger up to playing him? Nuts

Happy with that only 4 points of 4th spot and only 6 of the top spot with players coming back from injury, not bad.

Why doesn't Wenger just sack the entire medical team? They are obviously useless.

Its not just the medical team, must be the training the players are doing thats causing it as much as anything

It's not the medical team, it comes down to Wenger constantly over-playing his players & insisting with an already thin squad full of injury prone players every season.

Dragging up an old post but I was at the game against Watford and Villa were much the better side, should have won by a distance but Clark & Richardson aren't up to it, absolutely shocking and they need to be dropped, with Okore coming back to fitness they should improve but until Amavi returns as well they are going to ship chances down their left side. The midfield is decent enough as long as Sanchez doesn't try to pass, he's solid enough just no technical ability, Veretout looks decent and Gana has potential too. There massive problem is up front, with Ayew, Gil & Sinclair in the side they create so much but are desperate for a striker, Jordan Rhodes would have a field day in that side! Ayew played through the middle but just doesn't have the right movement to be a striker, needs to play in behind a striker.

Watford were dreadful really and were literally gifted the points by Richardson & Clark, and Hutton as well given his ridiculous own goal! Surprised on that showing that they have as many points as they do, Ighalo is the bright spark and responsible for most of their success this season, quality striker.

All in all I couldn't write Villa off yet, Garde has them playing some good football and they have a few winnable games coming up, if they can stay sort of in touch with the stragglers until January and make a couple of decent signings they might be ok, Garde has the capability just needs a bit more about the squad and that was a positive performance despite losing.

It is early, yes, but mathematically the omens aren't good (all teams to have 5 points by this point of a season have bitten the dust in May, while defeat at Southampton at the weekend makes it as bad as Sunderland's 05/06 start, which ended in what was then the worst BPL points record), and this is certainly one hell of a tailspin Garde has to get them out of.

Its not impossible tbf. But the omens aren't great.

Mind you, speaking of fatal tailspins, I highly doubt I can talk. And we're 5 points higher up ffs.

Agreed, the omens are terrible and the performances have been worse from what i've seen, but there are positives for them to take since Garde has taken charge (Barring the Everton demolition). I'm not saying it's likely just that it is so early to talk about going down, all it takes is a mini run of form and they're back fighting, look at Leicester they were doomed near the end of the season then suddenly they became the best side in the country! Football is a crazy game!

That said if they continue to play Richardson at left back they may not pick up another point all season, he's a shambles!

I'd love to know what Pellegrini does to try and organise our defence. Even when we keep clean sheets, they play as 4 individuals. It's shambolic.

Rooney gets injured and we replace him with literally the only player in the team who is more useless.

It's like we have a donkey quota.
