If LvG goes I hope Woodward follows. The club is a mess, we're a cash cow and the football is secondary.

It's been a cash cow for he best part of the last decade though tbh, you just had Fergie (as much as I hate the man) propping up the club on the field.

Agreed. And whole Glazar clan too. They all treat our club as cash machine and fuck tradition, history, pride and fans.

That is true. I'd love to see the Green and Gold protests prop up again.

People defend Woodward's tenure at the club because he's good at the commercial side of things. All that matters to him is the club's image, leaking shit into the press about how they can afford to spend millions on a player, that we want Bale, Ronaldo and Messi etc. he doesn't care about the style of football as long as we bring in the money. He's a pawn of the Glazers.

He waited until it was mathematically impossible to make the CL to sack Moyes despite the majority of the fans wanting him out long before then, he'll do the same with LvG.

I don't think its exclusively Woodward's fault and sacking him changes little to nothing.

The problem is that the two 'football' men on the board are a club legend who is hopelessly out of touch with the modern game in Sir Bobby. And a man whose presence at the club casts a long shadow in Ferguson.

I actually am reasonably encouraged by what I've heard in recent weeks about our behind the scenes stuff. It seems the club have acknowledged there is a problem and are attempting to sort it, that its taken this long (Brian McClair left his role as academy director nearly a year ago and hasn't been replaced) is poor, but at least its steps in the right direction.

It's imperative we get more football people involved with running the club, even if its ex-players such as Neville when he inevitably goes at Valencia or someone outside the club we clearly need someone to direct the vision of the club behind the scenes. It's bizarre that apparently the model Ferguson liked the most is the Bayern Munich one, yet we could not be further from it.

Our academy is a shambles. You can see how far ahead City are with the investment in their academy. Even clubs like Southampton and Spurs are ahead of us. Years of underinvestment and the Glazers don't really care as long as the club gets a load of sponsorship deals.

As I said before, history is repeating itself. The same mistakes are being made when Busby left. The club is a mess and the future is looking bleak unless things change.

I don't disagree the clubs in a mess, but I would bet a lot of money its being vastly overstated.

No one cares about the backroom dealings of the club and an article portraying the roof as falling in sells. If we're honest the academy has been poor for a while, and the loss of people like Derek Langley is no huge loss as long as they're replaced.

Take this as a case in point: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-united-dealt-another-blow-7182823

This man is retiring, yet apparently its another 'bitter blow' and represents his 'disillusionment' with the set up. Thats to ignore the fact that in his 16 years as head of youth recruitment the only player that you could call a success from the academy in the first team is Jonny Evans. Even the likes of Darren Fletcher, John O'Shea, Wes Brown et. al. preceded him. Although we've continuously pumped out a decent batch of Premiership footballers, even the likes of Danny Welbeck have to be considered a failure because, ultimately, they weren't good enough for the first team (and he joined the club in 2001, so how much impact Langley had on it who knows).

Oh, and on the subject, our U21s have won the league 2 of the last 3 years and are on course for a 3rd in 4. If our academy is in as ruinous a state as implied then it doesn't bode well for the English game as a whole.

I genuinely thought Vidic was not only the best defender, but the best player in the world for a little while back in 2008 or so. Absolutely nothing went past him. Shame things didn't work out for him at Inter.

That team in general was great.

Such a shame it coincided with probably the greatest club side of all time and with Ferguson's allergy to midfielders.

Imagine if we'd had Keane and Scholes in their prime with the likes of Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Park, Vidic, Evra and Rio to name a few.

Man Utd 3-0 Stoke

Probably the best performance in this season and not last (I hope). I am pretty sure that LVG wasn`t responsibility for the preparation of today`s tactic. Red Devils back to the old and proven philosophy.

Sam will be happy. In today's investors briefing Woodward announced that they've completed a review into the academy and will announce results in the next few days.

Oh and we're obscenely minted, too.

Yay! Relieved to read that. People are complaining that nothing was asked about LvG, like he was going to answer any questions about that.

He also mentioned how the next window potentially will be the 'biggest' for investment. I cannot wait for him to tell us we can afford to buy Neymar, Bale and Ronaldo if we wanted to!

It really is a shame. He's still a good player when he plays, a bit reckless yeah, but a good player nonetheless. But his body just isn't up to it. I mean look at this list (Which is missing his most recent two):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/XibIR5DSvcpBjJvWVabxvVaBLFqaDukZ92eUOl3o.png

The only common factor is he gets a lot of impact injuries from being a wally, but the amount of muscle injuries as well. It's insane.

Players have to take some of the blame too for Saturday, woeful performance from many individuals. Not many people have commented on him but Schneiderlin hasn't been great, I mean what does he do?

Everybody knows LvG's time is up, he's even admitted top four is unlikely, but until it's mathematically impossible he'll stay. Ed is still upset about the Moyes disaster, Mourinho won't come in until the summer.

I hope Giggs takes the U18 or U21 job rather than fuck off and whinge when he's not offered the top job. Replicate Solskjaer's success with the U21s and he'd have a chance of the top job after Mourinho's gone.

Two bits of news. Sir Bobby is getting the South Stand named after him, keeping him happy for when Mourinho arrives. [/cynical]

And Nicky Butt is going to be the new head of the academy. Only took them a year to think of a replacement, after the press reminded the club McClair had gone.

Or rather, as Woodward told the shareholders a few days ago, we've been conducting a review of the academy and this is one of the changes?

Without knowing anything about what Nicky Butt's been doing, youth recruitment, development, or what needs to be fixed I think its hard to have an opinion on this. Hasn't stopped people moaning though, apparently its worse that its Nick Butt and not some random from another club that no ones heard about either.

So we conducted a year long review and we end up appointing Nicky Butt, who was already at the club when McClair left?

I'm fine with Nicky Butt getting the job, I'm just staggered that it took a year.

Considering that the position itself is different, according to the clubs statement, then how could they have done it sooner?

The problem with 'replacing' McClair is that they weren't sure that the position would exist once they restructured, and until they conducted the review they didn't know if they were restructuring or not. Until then, the people in charge were always going to be doing that on a temporary basis. I'm not sure Butt was the first choice anyway, John McDermett's been fairly widely reported to have turned down the role.

Manchester United’s academy revamp continues at pace with the appointment of former Ajax scout Henny de Regt.

The Dutchman has been brought in to assist head of youth recruitment Derek Langley and gets to work straight away.

Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward promised that the ‘root-and-branch’ review of the youth system was complete and major changes would follow suit.

Step in the right direction.
