Literally though he was a former Arsenal youth player until we were linked with him.

In fairness he has a name like one I guess.

Elsewhere, Shelvey has been spotted in Newcastle having a medical and a £12m bid has been reportedly accepted. There's also meanwhile a rumour that Tiote is off to China for £8m, which in fairness is not too bad a deal given how much he's fallen off the bandwagon since 2012.

Hope Shelvey does well, but seems a bit of a strange move. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, the centre of the park seems an area Newcastle are probably adequate in and I don't think Shelvey improves it much if any. I do have a soft spot for him since he was on loan with us once and was a class above. Least he isn't another French import to the North East!

We aren't adequate in the centre of the park really, Colback and Anita are both good in a midfield 3 but we're intent on playing 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 and both are too similar.

Tiote offers more but he's looked disinterested since around 2012/13 so isn't a long term viable option.

Happy with the Shelvey deal. Hope we press on and sign a striker and a left back though, they're two important positions where we're lacking.

I think Shelvey is a talented footballer but I don't see how he'll fit in. Surely he's just a bald, better version of Colback?

Shelvey confirmed.

Well, that's two in. Now for that striker... one hopes.

Think he'll offer more going forward than Colback - who just sits and passes sideways or backwards and bottling tackles all the time.

Colback is awful going be last nights performance anyway, came off 80 minutes too late.

Aye he's not very good whatsoever.

Gets in the team because he's english and from round here I think.

I'd have liked to keep Tiote and see him alongside Shelvey in the middle, but never mind. 8m is a good price for a 30 year old who's been shit for about 3 years.

Hopefully we press on and get a left back and a forward.

Siem de Jong out for 2 weeks after being poked in the eye in training.

2 questions come to mind...
1. Can he stay for more than 1/2 months at a time?
2. What the hell are we doing in training?

Mitrovic prefers his banter in the form of missing chances. Banter.

Kieron Dyer fucking injured himself when one of them training poles poked him in the eye iirc. Also Kieron Dyer doesn't seem to get enough credit, I think he's up there with HBA in players who were really exciting to watch on their day.

Look at the state of this. Embarrassing how the Chronicle sticks up for their mates. Carr and Charnley are top Geordies. Who love to give us a news story. Pashun.

"Newcastle’s problem is the inflexibility of the approach passed down by Ashley" - Oh it's Ashley's fault.Of course he personally scuppers all these deals. Llambias allowed Hughton to sign Sol Campbell. Kuqi and Stephen Ireland also arrived later on in this season. Llambias also signed his mate up to be manager.

Ashley won't sign Charlie Austin because he's 26 an English. No resale value. But willing to sign Papiss Cisse, a 26 year old African for similar money.

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Don't think there was any part of his anatomy he didn't hurt while in black and white, and that's before all the car crashes.

I've always thought NUFC-era Robert to be quite underrated - maybe the consistency issues (like HBA) and his falling out with that wanker Souness didn't help, but on his day, he was excellent.

I can tell you Dyer was not too loved around Ipswich! Living here you hear a few stories about what an absolute cock he was around the town.

Oh he was definitely a cunt - theres a story about when he was drunk driving wrapping his car around a lamppost on the Redheugh bridge - two fans hopped out and told him to fuck off and they'd take the wrap for him.

Yeah I recall he had a bit of an attitude problem, but then 20-something young footballers with money have a reputation. Norfolk seemed to be similar for Titus Bramble - I was there a few years back and the front page of the local paper was that he'd crashed into a wall in some village up there while coming home from NUFC training.

Never in a million years.

Think it'll be more of a ruse to force WBA to sell us Berahino this month.

Sky reporting Townsend on a loan with permanent option. Might be more palatable than straight permanent tbf.

Sky also talking of NUFC interest in Berahino. Not sure given he seems to be a man who frequently kicks up a fuss, given he's already had episodes of petulance at WBA. Then again I felt that about Shelvey after the way he left Swansea - motivated by that Morgan/Monk/Dyer triangle in the BPL thread or not - so maybe I'm not one to judge.

He's calmed down quite a lot since his Ipswich days. He lives back there now, coaching one of the youth teams.

He's quite close to a member of my family, and by all accounts just seems a decent lad these days.

Apparently we only really have 3 fit defenders for tomorrow, and one of them is Steven Taylor, who hasn't played since August.

Just what we need for a must-win.

“I don’t really sense a nervousness in Chelsea. Hiddink’s come in and done a great job, settled the squad down, got them back to being hard to beat. They're 11 games unbeaten but I know they’ve drawn quite a few. They’ve got so many talented players so they’re very dangerous opponents. But our focus is on us, not them. We are going there to win and that’s what we’ve done all season. That won’t change."

McClaren.

Aye - we've went away to win in every game despite playing with every man behind the ball in about 90% of the minutes played away from home and wondering why our attacking players aren't very good away from home.

Hmm.

We're not at home we're very attacking - away from home is awful to watch though.

Like watching 2 different teams.

Negative away from home yet we play the same players. For example; Wijnaldum get's stick for 'not showing up' in away games but he's asked to play almost alongside our holding 2. That makes no sense; if we want to play that way he should be taken out of the team and Colback or someone like that thrown in.

McClaren is doing himself no favours as a tactician, for all we hear he is a great "coach"

We've also caused our own problems in not getting extra defenders in, as you'd expect we then got the injuries!
