The Quality Bargain Basement players thread

I appreciate that money can be tight for a lot of us managers so I've come up with my own personal top players under £500k bargains to be had in FM14.
These boys are all playing outside of the English leagues and should be definitely considered for championship level (and below) teams. All of these players that are listed are highly regarded IRL and great from my personal playing experience.
Some wont get WPs but they can all be picked up for less than £500k.



lets kick off with a player you can pick up for free. although arroe isn't an international, making a WP a problem, you have to admit his stats looks impressive for his value!



ive signed lizio before in older versions of the game when he was destined for greater things after being an Argentina U20s regular. seems to have lost his way a bit but you cant argue at his price. plus he's half French so a WP shouldn't be a problem. you get him for next to nothing.



another one who isn't an international but you cant argue with this 19yr olds record last season. an impressive 19 goals from 36 appearances from midfield! wont be long before he becomes an international and his price rockets. another one that can be picked up for peanuts.



just look at this boys stats! say no more. like I've said before, ALL of these players I list are doing the business IRL and this boy is no exception. again, not a full international yet but its only a matter of time if played regularly. just over £300k should secure him.



been a big fan of this player for a while. again, not an international so if you're managing in England then forget it. but if not, expect to pay around the £300k mark for this talented young winger.



I seem to be flooding this top 20 with talented, uncapped young AMCs, but this lad has been a regular star for his club and has been getting noticed by some top clubs. £300k-ish is a bargain price for this lad.




ok, this one you should defo get a WP for. was let go by Wolfsburg which is surprising really. price wise? £400k and it would be money worth spent.

a golden arrows regular and a south African international holding midfielder. should get a WP, not sure though, but defo worth a punt at his market value.



ok, what's not to like about this molde speedy, tough tackling Norwegian international full back for around the £200k mark?



ok, what's not to like about this benfica speedy, flairy Portuguese international winger for around the £200k mark?



this one is on the transfer list and you can do a lot worse than this free scoring Honduras international. his stats don't do him justice TBH. west ham have been sniffing IRL. £85k is a steal.



another one on the transfer list. again, the in-game stats don't do this Montenegro international justice. he's been prolific where ever he's played. £150k is a total bargain but again, the in-game stats don't do him justice.



this one should get a WP (I think!) and he can be picked up for around the £300k mark also. defo got some good overall stats if not that outstanding.

what list wouldn't be complete without pele!? ok, he hasn't quite got the skills, but at around £300k you cant argue that he is well worth the money.



is Slovakia part of the EU now? not sure, but Grendel is a great MC that can be picked up for around his value and less.



is Croatia part of the EU now? not sure, but mezga is a great AMR that can be picked up for around his value or less.



shocked that this lad is on transfer list TBH as he was doing so well for hamburg after his move from Chelsea. you can do a lot worse than this English DC.



lots of top clubs have been watching this guy and its strange why he hasn't been getting any caps. can be picked up for around his face value or less.



a Czech international who again can be picked up for around his market value or less.



a grasshoppers regular in the heart of their midfield. again one who can be signed for around his face value.

Sherman Cardenas became one of the best in the world in like FM08! Like what the others said, another excellent list that I'll be sure to check back on next time I start a new game.

thought I would add a few more to this thread. for the next few, I will concentrate on cheap playmakers.


20 goals in 86 international appearances for Jordan, 14 goals in 20 appearances for his club last season, some quality stats for an AMC, 26 years old & you can sign him for free for a top division one side. okay, got your interest?


a familiar face to us elder players as he has been a Champ Man legend. scary to think he is almost washed up at 24! still got some cracking stats AND you can sign him for free for a top division one type side. Bargain!


with a bit of negotiating, you can pick up this flairy Brazilian maritimo regular for around the £500k mark. wont get a WP though if you're managing in England. flairy. I've even made up a new wordy.

I wasn't going to mention too many free transfers but this lad deserves to be mentioned. the capped Norwegian youngster was suprisingly released by feyenoord and has been snapped up by molde IRL. make sure your club is doing the snapping for this good all round midfielder as he will make a top championship player.


some lovely stats for this Algerian world cup certainty and with some careful negotiation, you can get him for around £500k and possibly under. a must if you want a quality AMC at the peak of his powers. could easily do a job in the premiership.

I will concentrate on a few defenders now...


a no-brainer this guy. a loyal servant to Rangers and IMO a very good DL at championship level. you can expect to get him for £500k and maybe slightly lower, but why barter? you wont be disappointed.


yet another quality international for around the £500k mark! this player is leaving on a free at the end of the season so get in there quick with this Norwegian. very very good!


okay, his stats aren't incredible, but you cant argue at the price of £350k for this 3 capped Brazilian 22 year old listed DC! plus he is half Italian so you will get a WP. was bought by Napoli for £2.4m a season ago so give him some serious thought.

this one has got to be the biggest fopaux of the game! this Barce lad is being monitored by some top premiership clubs, yet in game, you can pick him up for under £500k! his stats are brilliant as well for a DL. top championship or lower premiership level teams, but he will only get better at 22 years old. he will take a bit of settling in, but he is an absolute gem. hell, I would be tempted to sign him if you are a top premiership club.


just been bought by sporting Lisbon this guy, and tbh, I cant remember where I had heard about him. but at £350K I think he is worth a punt. not an international though so forget it if you're managing in England.


a Chilean international DR that can be signed for free with some good stats? need I say more?

if you are look for a cheap DC with strong leadership then this 27yr old strong Panama international maybe your answer. expect to pay well under £200k for this guy and I think he looks an absolute bargain at that price. level? hhhmm. lower championship at best I think.
please bear in mind, I am NOT just searching the database here, the players I recommend are great IRL.

I will expand further but unfortunately I have a real job that pays bills.

You have an encyclopaedic knowledge on FM players, I must admit.

right I think its time to recommend a few wingers.


a regular for Switzerland with a score of 15 for flair for this 27 year old. his stats have taken a hit since previous versions, but at his asking price and possibly under, I think he is very cheap if you're operating on a budget.


has all the right scores for all the right stats this Danish international winger. could prove to be a hidden gem this one for championship level clubs. I don't think £500k and under is an unreasonable price for this 26 year old.


Sporting Lisbon have an asking price for only £250k for this promising Peru international. not sure how much his agent will demand as he owns 70% but I think that's an absolute bargain.

this skilful Costa Rica winger should defo make the plane for Brazil come the summer and with some careful negotiating on your part, he could be yours for around the £500k mark.


another winger with some good stats. 18 caps and 2 goals for Sweden for this 25 year old who was at Monaco last season. £400k should secure this fellas services and he would make a good acquisition for any championship level club.


it will take some good negotiating on your part to get this lad for around the £500k mark. is he worth it? well he has 18 for flair and 15 goals in 47 caps for Qatar so I would say so.

i wonder if I can get this to 50? anyway, here are some strikers I like the look of,


okay, lets kick off with a young capped Brazilian striker who plays for Porto and is available for £475K. need I say more? he looks a quality bargain target man to me. check him out.


how can I follow that? well this young Argentinian international striker looks a good bet for me. might take some nifty negotiating on your part to get him for the £500k value, but his River Plate record speaks for itself. he is half American so settling into an English club shouldn't be a language issue.


staying in South America, this free scoring Columbian international will also set you back £500k. and yeah, he is worth that for a championship level side at best.

an absolute star for South Africa this guy and has some pace about him. plus 18 for leadership is trait you don't see too often. expect to pay about his market value and I would say that is about right for a championship level club.


hull city fans will remember this striker. brought in due to their strong Egyptian ties, and he didn't do too bad either on loan. expect to pay about his face value and looking at his international record, I think that is a shrewd buy.


I wouldn't pay anymore than £550k for this Belarus international. he has some fairly good stats though and has an incredible rate for leading team BATE. lower championship level at best I think. but again, has a high leadership score for a striker.

how many is that? 44? I will defo come up with 6 more but I need to pick the most worthy of the list. plus I promised I would play a new network game at 8pm!
