Altrincham have appointed Simon Davies as their new manager on a one year contract.

Davies replaces Graham Heathcoate in the managerial hotseat after he decided to step down in midweek after guiding Altrincham to fifthteenth place last season, a feat that held in high regard by many onlookers of football as Altrincham were many bookmakers favourites to get relegated.

The ex-Manchester United and Crewe Alexandra player, was formerly Chester City's Youth Coach however he was handed the managerial reigns after Bobby Williamson's departure from the Deva Stadium. Chester parted company with Davies last season and they were relegated into the Blue Square Premier.

" I'm delighted to be back in the game, i would like to thank Altrincham for giving me this oppurtunity and i will not let them down. I feel that i have got a point to prove after my stint at Chester and i feel that this is the perfect place for me." - Simon Davies

Former Boss Graham Heathcoate was also pleased with the arrival of Davies.

"After last season i felt that i needed a new challenge. Altrincham is a great club with a great bunch of loyal fans. I believe that the Altrincham board have brought in the right man to take this club forward and emulate the sucess of last season."

A full interview with Davies will be held in upcoming days.

INTERVIEW WITH THE GAFFER

Press Conference With The New Boss Simon Davies

Simon Davies signed a one year contract yesterday with Altrincham F.C to take over the managerial reigns from Graham Heathcoate. Altrincham.com caught up with the new boss this morning.

---

Welcome Simon, Firstly considering that you have played for Macclesfield Town, huge rivals to us at Altrincham, it's a seems a little strange that you have taken the job after playing for them. Do you think that playing for Macclesfield will cause any conflict for managing the club?

"I'll give you a straight answer and that is a definate No. I'm delighted to be here and i want to do well for this club, to be honest i couldn't care about any other clubs at the moment in time. There is only one club i care about now and that club it Altrincham."

You had quite a hard time as manager at Chester, do you feel that you're up to the job here?

"I feel that i am more than ready for the job. Personally i believe that getting sacked by Chester has made me a better and stronger character, i know my weaknesses and i definatly know my strenghs and i am going to apply the strengths to Alty"

What are your plans for the upcoming season?

"I plan to add a few players to the current playing squad and i will also be wanting to implement some new staff into the backroom as well. I feel that if we don't push on from last season's fifthteenth place that it will be a disappointment however in my opinion avoding relegation is the main objective."

At Chester you were highly regarded to be that of a long ball manager, do you think that's a right assessment ?

" No definatly not. I do like to play long ball but if we aren't winning i may change my tactics. What's the point of playing about in our own half when we could be putting pressure onto the opponents in their half. I will be looking for a sensible attacking approach from the lads.

It's been rumoured that Midfielder Robbie Lawton is wanting to leave the club, what do you have to say on that matter?

He won't be leaving. Simple.

Lastly, Are you planning on bringing any new players into the current squad?

Yes, i am looking at players to strenghen the squad and i have already indentified them. I'm hoping we can have a strong season with a good batch of players who play my way.

---

Everybody at Altrincham wishes Simon Davies all the best and hopefully Alty can have another strong season.

Paul Brooker Signs

Simon Davies has made his first signing as Altrincham boss and that is of former Brentford winger Paul Brooker. Brooker joins after his contract expired at Brentford and has signed a two year deal.

Brooker 31, has made over two hundred appearences throughout his career with a host of clubs, Fulham and Reading have both had Brooker on their books. Brooker left Brentford after he felt that his footballing career lay elsewhere and has been recently training with Brighton Hove Albion.

" I'm happy to be here. I have got the experience to help the younger lads along as well. I feel that i can be a major player at the club this season and i'm looking forward to the next two years. We have a strong manager in place and hopefully we can do well. " - Paul Brooker.

Simon Davies was also seemingly happy with the capture of Brooker.

" Many teams were after him and to be honest with you i'm delighted to have him on board. He's a good player and i'm hoping to bring in more players soon too."

ALTRINCHAM SIGN STRIKING DUO

Posted Image

Davies recruits two more players for the upcoming season.

Simon Davies has made two more signings as he has signed Rotherham stiker Ryan Taylor on loan until the end of the season and also signed Chris Joyce on a free transfer.

Both players are strikers, Taylor 20, join until the end of the season. Although only being twenty years of age Taylor has already made over fifty appearences for Rotherham scoring seven goals. Taylor stands at 6"2 and was a dominant force for Rotherham reserves last season bagging twelve goals in the process.

Taylor was happy with his move here and said he was looking forward to gettting among the goals.

" It seems like a good club with a good set of lads. I have scored goals in higher divisions so i'm hoping i can emulate that good form here and get among the goals. I have set a target for myself of fifthteen, if i can reach that then i will be happy."

Altrincham's second signing in 6"4 striker Chris Joyce who joins the club on a free transfer from Norwegian side Odd. Joyce 26, has only been in the proffessional game two years after he joined Odd, Newcastle born Joyce is also eligible for the United States due to the fact that his mother is Americian. Joyce was a wanted man and he turned down League One side Brentford to sign for us at Altrincham.

We wish them all the best and hope their time in a Altrincham shirt is a successful one.
