SCOTLAND BOSS BURLEY RESIGNS
Manager struck with cancer
Last updated: 1st July 2008
George Burley steps down after less than 6 months as Scotland manager
Scotland manager George Burley announced his immediate resignation at a press conference held at Hampden Park today after having been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma last week.
"After conferring with my doctor, my family and the SFA, I have come to the decision to step down from my job as Scotland manager and take a break from management until my health issues have been fully resolved", he said.
The cancer that Burley has been diagnosed with, Hodgkin's lymphoma, is considered one of the most curable cancers with a survival rate of over 90% after successful treatment.
It is likely that Burley could have carried on as Scotland manager while being treated, but he chose to fully focus on beating the disease instead.
Speculation is now rife as to who will replace Burley as Scotland manager, former Celtic player and Hibernian manager John Collins, Belgian Marseille manager Eric Gerets and Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood have been touted as favourites for the job, with Sheffield Wednesday legend Roland Nilsson, former Celtic player and Wycombe manager Paul Lambert and Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson being said to have an outside chance.
The most surprising rumour so far however, is that former Rangers and Everton striker Duncan Ferguson has been offered the job. Ferguson, who managed only 7 caps for Scotland before retiring from international football in 1997 due to his many disagreements with the SFA, retired from professional football in 2006.

"Big Dunc" laughs off Scotland rumours
No longer a candidate for the Scotland job?
Upon being asked by reporters from the BBC, Duncan Ferguson laughed off the rumours linking him with the Scotland job.
“Whoever came up with that must be out of his mind”, Ferguson said.
“I am currently enjoying my life in retirement here in Mallorca and I have no plans on any managerial career any time soon, any rumours to the contrary are just paper talk”, the former Everton player told the BBC.
Ferguson is not the only candidate to rule himself out of the race, Marseille manager Eric Gerets, who had been a favourite for the job, released a press statement saying that he would like to focus on club football for the time being yesterday evening.

Well, I needed some way of explaining his sudden departure didn't I?

You could of chosen anything for him to resign but instead you choose one of the most severe things in the world :L Good luck and for a first story its provokative to say the least.
I'm growing a glorious tash for Movember. I know we don't know one another on a personal level but if you have any spare change in your bank account then slot it into my donation box here:

It's not like he's making a joke out of cancer. Illness is a perfectly plausible reason for a manager to step down and that's what Franck's done here.
Good start mate.

I even chose one of the most curable cancers.
Its not like I gave him something embarrasing like anal cancer or a certain death sentence like pancreatic cancer.
Edit: Figured I should say that I'll probably be updating this tomorrow or on Friday, not been in much of a creative mood today.
