66 Was A Great Year For English Football II by K3V0 - K3V0 has started many stories in the past months, but after his amazing over 25 page story about Manchester United, K3V0 has started a new story at Portsmouth, bringing the title along with him, trying to bring fortunes to Pompey.
Newcastle United - Operation: Renaissance by Jonas - Jonas' story enjoyed being a nomination of the Story Of The Month in July, but failed to win the award, but has continued his great story in which he is the fallen Newcastle.
You'll Never Walk Alone by shan0811 shan0811 has left his beloved Manchester United to start a story at his arch rivals Liverpool, after ending his 'Toffee Dream' story, which was nominated for Story Of The Month in June.
Gatecrashing The World Footballing Order by Number 1 - Number 1 puts himself in charge of a money packed Manchester City team, and the story is very exciting, with dips in form, who City will bring in with their lots of money, and whether City will make the top 4, and this story personally gets my vote.
Arte Et Labore by shanghai_nobody - shanghai_nobody has taken control of one of the unlikely teams to make a story out, with Blackburn. But he has made a surging run to win the league with them and his great writing gets him a part in the nominations.
The Former Premier League Joke by Tarrantino - In another Newcastle United story, Tarra takes control of the newly relegated side, and with lots of twists and turns as to who the manager would be, this is going to be one of the favourites to win the award.

Hardly identical Nomis, each writer brings their own way of writing.
Cliche is a tad bit harsh considering the hard work people put into their stories, it is like me saying your story is to far fetched.

Not really, cliche is a judgement on the approach, whereas far fetched is a judgement on the story itself. Very different things. You'll notice that I never actually commented on the story itself, but I suppose it's easily misunderstood.

Like K3V0 says, everybody brings their own unique way of writing, and if your wondering why yor story wasn't included, in my opinion I should give nominations to the people with over 1 page because of their hard work updating consistently, and yours isn't quite over that yet, but you will undoubtedly be very much considered for next months award, as long as you go over one page.
Yes some stories go over one page because of comments on their story, but none of the above have gone over 1 page just because of that, and I am extremely pleased with all the stories in this months vote, and i definately feel that this is one of the toughest votes ever, and I found it very hard to vote myself, so i'd like to give everybody a big thankyou for putting all your great writing on Susie.

I was specifically trying to make sure that it didn't come as across as bitterness, which it genuinely isn't, but it was hard to avoid it seeming like that.
I understand your views and you're right, the newspaper report style is very common, but I feel that it's a bit of a cop out. Not to say a story that doesn't use that style is better, but it takes more effort, more thought and far greater detail.

Don't agree with that. It is quite hard to think of information to put in a match report, how to structure it.
It isn't so easy, if it was everyone would have fantastic stories. I agree a story using your style can include more effort, thought and far greater detail but the majority don't.
I didn't take it as bitterness about not being nominated, that will come in time.

I kind of put off writing an FM story, because it can be very difficult to write a story about your FM game without employing the Newspaper format.
Nothing against the writers, I'm sure you all put in alot of effort, but it all eventually looks the same, if I'm totally honest.
I just personally find them a bit bland in terms of variation.

I think that's my point, a lot of the stories are match reports/transfer updates. The story of a match and an actual storyline are two different things. Like I said, that's not taking anything away from the stories on this forum, but I do feel that a majority of them are a career update, with a brief opening paragraph storyline.
I have two styles, match report and story. Match report is easy, you watch the match on FM and describe it as if you're a spectator, it's 90% FM, 10% background. Story is 50% imagination, 50% FM, it sorts the dreamweaver from the reporter, so to speak

Both newspaper and story styles have merits and, as I have written in both, I do like writing in them either way. Both of them do require effort, thought and a great, almost perverse amount of detail though I agree the story part requires more - I suffered a lot of writer's block during some story-style environments.

Definitely. I am 12k words into my England Story and it's pure match report, very little excess story and it's such a breath of fresh air because I can't really suffer wrters block when reporting on a match. The amount of stories with intricate storylines i've started that die because of writers block...i've lost count

I remember when I was writing The Empire it took me about 2 hours and countless deletions to write a match report in that style
My next story after 'Gatecrashing...' is intended to be more of a half-story, half-newspaper thing but I'm waiting to see how far I get with this one first.
