Wycombe Wanderers' loanee defender Chris Smalling has returned to Premier League side Manchester United after his three month loan spell came to an end. Smalling featured fourteen times the League One side and also scored in the clubs historic win away at Wolves in the Carling Cup.
Smalling had become a favourite amongst the Wycombe fans and said that he was sad to be leaving Wycombe.
" I have really enjoyed my time here and to be honest i'm pretty gutted to be leaving. I didn't expect my spell here to be as enjoyable as it has been and i thank everyone and the club for this. I help that this loan spell will increase the chances of establishing myself in the squad at Old Trafford.
"I have got just under a month to see if i can do that. I will have a word with Sir Alex about my short-term future in January. If he feels that it would be beneficial for me to come back out on loan then i would definatly want it to be at Wycombe. However now the only thing i need to concentrate on his working hard in training and trying to force my way into the first team."
Wycombe will have to cope without Smalling when they play their game-in-hand against fellow promotion challenging Derby County tomorrow night. Derby got relegated last year however have been tipped by many to go straight back up to the Championship.

Wycombe slipped out of the promotion places and two points behind second placed Derby County after tonight's loss. Wycombe lost by three goals to one against Derby, Daniel Nardiello had put Wycombe ahead but goals from Kris Commons, Rob Hulse and Chris Porter condemned Wycombe to their first defeat in twelve games.
Daniel Nardiello scored after twenty six minutes with his third goal in three matches. Nardeillo calmy curled the ball past Stephen Bywater after combining with fellow strike partner Nathan Tyson. Tyson held off his man and layed the ball off to Nardiello, allowing the former Blackpool man to get his shot away and put Wycombe ahead.
It looked like Wycombe would be going into the break infront however Derby's Kris Commons had other ideas. Commons stole in infront of left back Paine and watched a Rob Hulse cross all the way befire heading it into the back of the net via the underside of the crossbar to draw Derby level.
Wycombe looked for winner and went close through Tyson however to late goals by Derby condemned Wycombe to defeat. Rob Hulse fantastically headed in past Howard after beating Sam Sodje in the air to grab his tenth goal of the season and Derby's second of the game. Derby made the game safe through former Motherwell striker Chris Porter. Porter had only just come on as a substitute however two minutes later he fired past Howard to give Derby a vital win.
Wycombe drop to third in the League One table. They play Exeter next in the league, they also play them next month in the Third Round of the FA Cup.

Wycombe Wanderers' striker Deon Burton has left the club on a free transfer, he only joined the club three months ago. Burton failed to impress manager Gareth Ainsworth and only managed to grab one goal in seven appearences. He will join Dutch side Excelsior on the 1st January when the transfer window re-opens.
Burton turned down Championship side Leeds United to join Wycombe however has found a first team place hard to come by after the good form of Nathan Tyson and Daniel Nardiello. Wycombe's Alex Revell and Matt Harrold also were ahead of Burton in the pecking order, making Burton the club's fifth choice striker.
Burton's only goal for the club came in the sides one-nil win against Stockport County in August. However he scored twenty-six goals for Charlton last season as they lost in the Play Offs. Excelsior will be Burton's first club out of England however he is looking forward to the challenge.
" I'm really looking forward to it to be honest with you. I had the chance to stay in England however it was this club that really stood out for me. I want to show Holland my abilities and i can't wait to do that. It's been really hard to take at Wycombe as i haven't been playing but that chapter in my life is coming to an end. My new life is in Holland and playing for Excelsior."

Wycombe bounced back from their mid-week defeat against Derby County with a sold with against Paul Tisdale's Exeter City. Nathan Tyson got two and Dean Keates scored as Wycombe beat the side that they are playing next month in the Third Round of the FA Cup.
Keates got his first goal of the season on fourty-two minutes after some good work by Daniel Nardiello. Keates got seven goals last season however this goal was suprisingly his first of this season. Nardiello jinked past the Exter defence, played a swift one-two with Tyson and slipped a great ball through to the on running Keates. Keates smashed the ball hard and low past Jones to give Wycombe the lead.
Wycombe doubled their lead after a spectacular strike from Tyson. Exeter left the former Notts Forest man unmarked at the far corner of the area, but he provided a classic low left foot volley that gave the keeper no chance to get his eighteenth goal of the season.
Wycombe got his ninteenth goal of the season and made it three nil soon after. Tyson slotted the ball underneath the goalkeeper after a good ball from the again-impressive Matt Ritchie. The game ended three nil however with Derby and Southampton winning, Wycombe still are two places away from second place. Wycombe face Southend next.

Wycombe won their second consecutive match with a good win away against Southend United. Matt Phillips scored his second goal of the season after being given a start ahead of Matt Ritchie who was dropped to the substitutes bench. Wycombe remain third in the League One table, behind Derby County and Southampton.
Just five minutes in Wycombe almost took a fortunate lead when great battling from Harrold earned a free kick on the right and Dean Keate's inswinging set piece was glanced onto his own post by Adam Barrett. Nathan Tyson also hit the woodwork after his header was tipped onto the post by the keeper after a good cross by Harrold.
Wycombe saw a penalty shout waved away in the thirty fourth minute when the Southend keeper could only spill Anton Peterlin's twenty five yard drive back into the box, and when Anthony Grant strength allowed him to reach the loose ball before Tyson and the former Forest striker went to ground, however the referee was having none of it.
The game died out afterwards however Wycombe took the lead just after the hour through Matt Phillips. Phillips is begining to force his way into the Wycombe starting eleven at the mere age of nineteen. Phillips smashed the ball in after a good oull back from Harrold to give Wycombe the lead.
Wycombe travel to Millwall next who are currently eighth in the League One table.

Wycombe will play Roberto Mancini's Manchester City in the Semi-Final of the Carling Cup. Goals from Emmanuel Adebayor and Carlos Tevez were enough for City to beat Liverpool by two goals to nil to book a semi-final tie with League One side Wycombe. Arsenal beat Middlesbrough four-nil in the other Quarter Final.
"It's good that we know who we have got now and the lads can't wait. We just have to go into both matches and play our own game. We've done that in the last five rounds that we've played and i expect no different when we play City. Of course it will an unforgettable night for the me,the players and the fans but firstly we need to get points against Millwall and Bristol Rovers in the league." - Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth.
" We can't wait for the match, it'll be fantastic. We're not going to be scared of them, even though they have a very good side. We will give our all and maybe try and pull of another upset. We need to concentrate on the league though as that is our priority but it should be a great match up for everyone involved with Wycombe" -Wycombe midfielder Dean Keates.
Semi-Final Draw
Wycombe v Manchester City
Chelsea v Arsenal
The first leg will be at Wycombe's Adams Park on Wedensday 5 January. The second leg will be at Manchester City's home ground; Eastlands on Wednesday 19 January. Both matches will appear on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports HD1.
Wycombe however still have tough matches against Millwall, Bristol Rovers and a FA Cup Third Round tie against Exeter Cuty before the match against Manchester City.

Wycombe won for the third consecutive match with a great boxing day win away at Millwall. All of the goals were scored in the second half and substitute Anton Peterlin got the goals going with his long-range strike, Steve Morison replied for Millwall before Matt Harrold and Matt Ritchie scored to condemned Millwall to defeat.
The first half lacked quality with Nathan Tyson twice missing good chances, as did Millwall's former Leyton Orient striker Gary Alexander. However it was in the second half when the game came to life. Anton Peterlin replaced Dean Keates in the centre of midfield at the interval and it was Peterlin's strike that opeed the scoring.
Matt Ritchie quickly passed a free kick about twenty-five yards away from the goal to the American Peterlin. Peterlin fantastically scored from twenty five yards after his effort flew into the top right hand corner giving former Cardiff keeper David Forde no chance. The goal was Peterlin's fifth of the season since his summer move from Everton.
Steve Morison headed Millwall level for his fifth goal of the season with only a quarter of the match to go but Wycombe were quickly back infront. Craig Woodman's throw into the box was poorly punched by Forde, Harrold punished the poor goalkeeping and beat the defender in the air to head Wycombe back infront.
Matt Ritchie smashed the ball past Forde minutes later to wrap up the win for Wycombe. Wycombe play Bristol Rovers next as they look to make it four runs on the bounce. Ainsworth's men remain in third position.

Matt Ritchie scored his fourteenth goal of the season and Matt Harrold scored his third goal in two matches as Wycombe easily beat Bristol Rovers. The win also puches Wycombe back up into the League One promotion places after Derby County were beaten one-nil by Wallsall.
Harrold got Wycombe on to a great start on eleven minutes with his sixth goal of the season. Nathan Tyson was the architect after a great run down the left wing. Tyson quickly and skillfully took the ball past the Bristol Rovers defence before laying the ball on a plate for Harrold to fire the ball home.
The game remained one-nil until just after the interval. Nathan Tyson again grabbed the assist as he neatly controlled a ball forward from West Ham loanee Josh Payne and played a nice through ball to Harrold. Harrold took the ball in his stride and placed the ball to the keepers' left to grab his, and Wycombe's second of the match.
The win was wrapped up ten minutes later through Ritchie. Ritchie grabbed his thirty-second goal for Wycombe in his fifty third appearences for the club, many off the bench when he first joined the club. The Portsmouth man fantastically chipped the ball over the Rovers keeper from twenty-yards to seal the win.
Wycombe play Exeter in the Third Round of the FA Cup next. Wycombe have already played Exeter in the league, beating them three-nil.

Wycombe crashed out of the FA Cup in the third round after a defeat at home against Exeter City. Wycombe were second best throughout the match and Exeter won the match after Richard Logan's seventy ninth minute strike. Wycombe had won their last four matches however many players seemed to have their minds on the Carling Cup Semi-Final against Manchester City on Wednesday.
It wasn't until just after the half hour mark that either side threatened , but right-back Lewis Hunt was on hand to clear as Exeter broke down the left through the lively Stuart Fleetwood. Matt Phillips then forced Marriott into a stunning save from the edge of the Grecians' box after being put through by Matt Harrold.
Harrold himself saw an effort comfortably gathered by the Exeter number one after good work from Matt Ritchie and Bloomfield. At the other end, Adam Stansfield's pull back just eluded Fleetwood and James Dunne in the Wanderers box as Exeter threatened to counter.
Exeter pushed on for a winner while Wycombe didn't seem to be too bothered what happened with the match. Sam Sodje and Leon Johnson both stood and watched as Richard Logan nipped in behind them and smashed the ball past the flat footed Howard.
Wycombe host Manchester City on Wednesday night in the Semi-Final of the Carling Cup.

1949: Only four minutes gone and Wycombe have nearly taken a shock lead after a mistake from goalkeeper Shay Given. Tyson had the goal at his mercy however was denied by a brilliant last-ditch tackle from Lescott to spare Given's blushes.

2024: Jo has just wasted another City chance as he headed the ball over the bar from Luka Modric's corner.
2026: So close by Rithie! Wycombe were nearly ahead after a great effort by Ritchie with Wycombe's first shot of the game. Ritchie stole the ball off De Jong and fired the ball from twenty yards out just past Shay Given's post.
