St Mirren have signed their fifth new player and their fourth from Cowdenbeath.

Quote

St Mirren manager Danny Lennon has raided former club Cowdenbeath for a fourth time, signing a left-back who only made his first-team there once. The 19-year-old Peter Bradley, who has signed a one-year contract, had been attracting the interest of Celtic despite his lack of senior experience. Bradley, a Northern Ireland youth international, joined Cowden from Glenavon in 2008.

Former England central defender Sol Campbell is in Glasgow with a view to signing for Celtic.

The 35-year-old will spend the day looking around Celtic's stadium and the club's Lennoxtown training ground. Campbell spent five years with Arsenal before moving to Portsmouth, returning for a second spell with the Gunners in January on a short-term deal.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon is keen to make Campbell his first summer signing as he looks to rebuild the squad.

Last season, under Tony Mowbray, Celtic sold centre-half Gary Caldwell and loaned captain and central defender Stephen McManus to Middlesbrough. Lennon has recalled McManus from the Championship side, and if Campbell does sign for Celtic he will join Dutch pair Glenn Loovens and Jos Hooiveld, Norwegian Thomas Rogne and Irishman Darren O'Dea in competing for a starting place.

Campbell and Mulgrew, lucky Celtic already have the best squad in the league.

Campbell was still very solid in the Premiership last season, would be a steal for Celtic.

I'm all for the transfer, the guy has obviously kept himself in good shape as he showed at Arsenal last season.

Would stroll the SPL, absolutely stroll it.

He looked good at Arsenal because he had better players around him. He was poor in his last season at Portsmouth, made so many mistakes and was stripped for pace everytime.

He would also hardly be a "steal" as he would demand high wages and at least 2 years of a contract which means if he proves to be sh*t then he is eating up a huge chunk of wage.

I'm actually quite confident about this season

You do realise David Weir's last season with us is almost identical to that which you just described? That was 3 or 4 years ago, and he's still doing well in Scotland, by all accounts, at the age of 40. Campbell's only 35, and was a better player in him prime anyway.

If Weir can do it, then Campbell definitely can. Don't know why Rangers fans don't rate him when they like to bring up how Weir is 70 and still playing time and time again.

Campebell's better than Weir tbh, and it's not close either.

I do realise that, but I have never really rated Weir tbh. Everyone says the same thing about him "He is brilliant.......for his age." If he was a younger player but playing like he does now, all the Rangers fans would be saying he is sh*t. He is outpaced so many times in a match and relies on other defenders to get him out of situations, he kicks and fouls people because of his lack of pace as well.

I am dreading him signing a new one year deal. I do however, feel that Weir is more suited to the Scottish game and Campbell won't adapt as well.

How, exactly? What skills does David Weir possess that Sol Campbell doesn't that make him more suited to this division?

Sol Campbell did well at Arsenal last year, and is exactly the kind of player we need in the dressing room. I'd be delighted with the signing.

Because Scotland is a lot like the Football League, it's sloppy and it's frantic. Sol Campbell couldn't hack 1 game at Nott's County ffs.

When you can't think of any other reason to say Sol Campbell won't adapt to the SPL, just spout nonsense like that.

If Campbell's a flop, I'll eat my words, but I think adding a guy with World Cup and Champions League experience like Campbell's can only be a good thing.

Why a defender with that much experience can't play in a sloppy league when you consider that he's a defender in the first place, and that he doesn't need to be particularly skillful or clever at the back with the ball really does confuse me.

It would be different if he was a fancy playmaker or a striker who was required to put the ball in the net, but Campbell is clearly neither. He should cope fine.

I'd be raging if my club thought about paying £35k odd a week for a 35 year old centre back.

That arguement would only apply if he couldn't handle the standard of League 2 - he clearly could. For whatever reason, he wanted out and left after the one match. It clearly had nothing to with his quality, seeing as he then played for a side that finished third in the Premier League.

He's more than good enough for the Scottish Premier League.

Fair bit of transfer speculation today.

Quote

Celtic are in talks with South Korean World Cup defender Cha Du-Ri, who is available under freedom of contract.

The 29-year-old right-back is having discussions with representatives of the club in Glasgow but it is unlikely a deal will be concluded immediately.

Du-Ri said: "I am excited about playing for Celtic and living in Glasgow.

"And I really want to play in a Glasgow derby. Even in Germany, people talk about the Old Firm game, so to actually play in one would be amazing."

Du-Ri also played in the 2002 World Cup, but as a forward and has since converted to defence and is now noted for his willingness to join attacks.

"Celtic are a big club and have a good chance of winning trophies," he said.

Nicknamed "The Human Weapon", he spent last season at German club Freiburg.

Quote

Hull City chairman Adam Pearson has confirmed that midfielder Jimmy Bullard is mulling over an offer to join Celtic on a season-long loan.

The Tigers want the 31-year-old, who is their record signing, off the wage bill now that they have been relegated.

"There is an offer there from Celtic. I think Jimmy is thinking about it," Pearson told BBC Sport.

"I think it would be a fantastic stage and get him back playing games and scoring goals."

Bullard, who began his career with Gravesend & Northfleet before spells with West Ham United, Peterborough United and Wigan Athletic, joined Hull from Fulham in January 2009 for £5m.

The Englishman signed a four-and-a-half year contract but suffered a cruciate ligament injury on his debut against West Ham and did not return to action until October.

I'd love to see both of them at Celtic Park.
