    TOO EASY FOR EVERTON

    Posted Image
    Arteta celebrates his goal.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Everton have made it 12 games unbeaten after beating West Brom 3-1 at Goodison Park, thanks to goals from Yakubu, Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta.

Everton's Yakubu had the first shot of the game, curling over from outside the area on two minutes while Tim Cahill blazed over four minutes later after Magaye Gueye's cross had gone straight through the six yard box. The Toffees continued to attack and took the lead the next time they broke into the West Brom half. A one two on the right wing put Mikel Arteta in space and his cross was headed in by Yakubu at the far post on eight minutes.

West Brom had an immediate chance to level, with Steven Reid beating the offside trap to latch on to a header from Chris Brunt, but his first time shot from just inside the area went wide of goal. A pass from Valero gave Roman Bednar a good shooting opportunity 25 yards out on 11 minutes but the striker miscued his shot and it resulted in an easy save for Tim Howard. The brief resurgence didn't last long, with Mikel Arteta putting the ball in the net on 13 minutes. A long ball forward bounced over the West Brom defence and straight to the Spanish midfielder, who shot past Scott Carson into the right side of the net.

Striker Roman Bednar saw a low shot deflect wide on 17 minutes after a pass from Heitinga deflected into his path while there were appeals for a penalty after Dorrans had his shirt tugged when running on to a throw in from Marek Cech. A goalmouth scramble followed another Zuiverloon throw on 28 minutes with both Bednar and Dorrans desperately trying to find a way to goal only for a Everton body to block their shots.

The effort was there for West Brom but they were struggling to find the final ball that would let them unlock the Everton defence. Valero and Mulumbu both made a number of runs inside from their positions but the crucial pass went astray just as the move looked promising. With no further chances created the sides went into half time with West Brom still two goals behind. West Brom pressed forward at every early opportunity in the second half but again couldn't create any clear chances. An Steven Reid cross almost crept in at the near post on 54 minutes.

Seconds later, Ishmael Miller had a chance to reduce the deficit, running on to a Mattock pass inside the area but with just the keeper to beat he sliced his shot high and wide of goal. The miss looked more costly on 60 minutes when Everton scored a controversial third. Saha looked in an offside position when he picked up the ball in the West Brom half and the striker laid the ball off for Tim Cahill to slot home from close range with away players and fans furiously protesting the decision. Miller nodded in his third of the season in injury time from a Valero free kick but it was too little too late for West Brom.

    SPOTLIGHT ON MOYES

    Posted Image
Moyes won last month's manager of the month award

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

With the season in full swing and the Carling Cup quarter final just 7 days away, evertonfc.com caught up with manager David Moyes to get his thoughts on the club, how the season is going and what his plans are for the future.

Hello David, First of all let me say thank you for agreeing to do this interview for us. How does it feel to be up in the top 3 of the Premier League?.

It's great, i'm loving every minute of it. When I said at the start of the season I wanted 4th I never thought we'd be in this position. Hopefully we can keep up our good form.

How do you feel your new signings are getting on at the club?

They have been doing really well in my opinion. Jack Collison has settled down really quickly and looks to be a quality player in midfield. Alphonse Areola hasn't had a lot of first team football which is a it of a shame but with Tim doing so well it's hard to get him in. Eric Abidal and Jermaine Beckford are also looking good and are providing good backup for the players we already had. 1 guy that has impressed me a lot is Magaye Gueye. Magaye has been a revelation at left midfield. My previous plan was for him to be a back up player but at the moment there is no keeping him out the side.

At the moment the side are third in the Premier League, do you actually think they can mount a title challenge this season?

It's not a case of questioning if they can, it's a case of questioning why they can't. We have a good squad who a playing really good football and winning games. If we keep winning games from now until the end of the season we should be right up there.

The Carling Cup quarter final is just 7 days away, what are your hopes for the cups?

I want to win all 3. I know a lot of managers say how the Carling Cup doesn't matter and the FA Cup is more important, but to me all 3 cups are just as important as each other and I will be setting the guys up in an attempt to win all 3. Whats the point in entering if you're not going to try and win it?

Finally David, do you think the fans can look forward to any new signings come January?

To be honest, unless we get a few injuries I don't think we need to make any signings. I might sign 1 or 2 back up players, but I feel the squad we have now is more than capable than competing in the Premier League.

Well thats all the questions I have for you David, thanks for your time today and good luck for the rest of the season.

    TREMENDOUS TOFFEES

    Posted Image

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

A brace from Australian Tim Cahill helped Everton on their way to a 4-0 win and all 3 points at the Stadium Of Light.

Everton started the match won a corner on the right, after some good work by Arteta and Cahill headed home from an excellent ball by young England under 21 international Jack Rodwell. The hosts seemed stunned into life by the goal, with Richardson working hard down the left and giving Neville plenty to do, that combined with the pace of Campbell kept Everton on their toes. Sunderland's first real chance came on 10 minutes when Cana played a good ball into the box, just behind Jones, whose overhead kick was well blocked by the advancing Tim Howard and then cleared to safety. Magaye Gueye showed some great early touches and should have made it 2-0 on 15 minutes, when he found himself clean through on goal and after making space for himself he could only hit a weak shot straight at the 'keeper.

The lead was doubled five minutes later when Rodwell played in a superb ball, which Vaughan let run and Tim Cahill arrived at the far post to slide the ball home, past Gordon in the Sunderland goal. The former Millwall man was clean through on goal a minute later and after beating the keeper he looked certain to score, only for Anton Ferdinand to get back and clear the ball out for a corner. The deficit could have been halved on 25 minutes when Henderson found himself in a good shooting position but Heitinga recovered well to put in a great sliding tackle and avert the danger.

It was 3-0 four minutes later when James Vaughan scored a great solo goal. His long range shot hit the inside of the post before crossing the line, much to the amazement of most of the crowd, a goal that is certainly a contender for goal of the season. Neither side made any changes at half time but the visitors knew if they were to get anything out of the game then they needed to strike early on.

Steve Bruce's side still looked dangerous at times and they broke well on 55 minutes through Kieran Richardson but David Healy hit the shot well over the bar. John Heitinga sealed the win on 68 minutes, with his first of the season from 25 yards. Jack Rodwell was again the provider from the corner spot, this time Cahill headed the ball out for Heitinga, who drilled his shot past the helpless Gordon, who wasn't having the best of afternoons between the sticks. The goal killed the game with 22 minutes still to go, the hosts huffed and puffed in front of goal but never really looked likely to score.

    Final Score: Sunderland 0-4 Everton.

Sunderland: Gordon, El Mohammady, Kilgallon, Turner, Ferdinand, Malbranque (Tainio 49), Richardson, Cana, Henderson (Nosworthy 49), Jones, Campbell (Healy 49).

    ALL SQUARE AT GOODISON

    Bilyaletdinov celebrates his goal.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

The points were shared at Goodison Park as Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Everton grabbed a late equalizer when they looked certain to be heading for defeat.

Yobo blocked an early shot from Bolton striker Kevin Davies while Everton coped with an attack down the right involving Jermaine Jenas and Andy O'Brien on four minutes. The away side enjoyed most of the early possession with Tim Howard saving well from Vassell on 13 minutes after the ball deflected to the former England striker off Leighton Baines. With Bolton continuing to press forward Howard had to be on his toes to keep out another effort from Davies two minutes later.

Everton's first concerted attack brought a free kick just outside the area, with Zat Knight fouling Jack Rodwell as he made his way towards goal. The set piece was taken by Tim Cahill with the midfielder forcing Jussi Jaaskelainen to turn behind for a corner with a curling shot. Jagielka dealt well with a low cross from Muamba on 25 minutes while Petrov missed with a 20 yard shot on 32 minutes. At the other end Yakubu tested Jaaskelainen from outside the area.

Kevin Davies saw a shot deflected wide on 43 minutes but the away side took the lead from the corner. Everton cleared Petrov's cross but the ball fell to Darius Vassell on the edge of the area and the striker lashed home a volley. Tim Cahill shot wide four minutes into the second half as Everton looked for an equalizer and put another speculative effort past the post soon after. It seemed all of the chances were falling to the Australian and on 59 minutes he sent a right foot shot wide of Jaaskelainen's goal.

Baines went on a long solo run on 63 minutes before forcing Jaaskelainen into a save and Louis Saha tested the keeper two minutes later from the edge of the area. The away side almost grabbed a second on 69 minutes when Muamba struck the side netting from a 20-yard free kick conceded by Yobo. Saha shot wide of Jaaskelainen's goal on 75 minutes and a minute later Baines' cross somehow went through the six yard box with none of his team mates able to get a touch on the ball.

Howard saved from Bolton substitute Robbie Blake on 79 minutes and Davies shot over the bar four minutes later. Osman tried his luck on 87 minutes with a long range effort but the ball went well over Jaaskelainen's goal, while fellow substitute Diniyar Bilyaletdinov shot wide with a minute left. Moments after the fourth official had shown there would be three minutes of injury time, Everton grabbed a deserved equaliser. Mikel Arteta whipped in a great ball to the near post with Bilyaletdinov converting to send the home fans into delirium.

    Final Score: Everton 1-1 Bolton.

Everton: Howard, Neville, Baines, Jagielka, Yobo, Rodwell (Osman 62), Fellaini, Arteta, Cahill, Gueye (Bilyaletdinov 62), Yakubu (Saha 45).

    BLACKPOOL NO MATCH FOR TOFFEES

    Posted Image
    Cahill battles for the ball.

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

A Jack Collison goal and 3 more Premier League points was all Everton had to show after they dominated Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool could have taken the lead inside the first minute but for a last ditch challenge from defender Phil Jagieka who managed to get a toe to the ball just as Brett Ormerod pulled the trigger. Everton looked impressive following their early scare and they began to dominate Blackpool with Jack Rodwell running the show in the centre of midfield.

The men from Merseyside got their reward on the 25th minute mark. Everton captain Phil Neville found the ball at his feet 25 yards out from goal and ran at the defence only to be taken out by a horrible tackle by Blackpool defender Ian Evatt, which saw the defender booked. It was then that Collison stepped up to take the free kick and the Welshman rifled the ball past Paul Rachubka in the Blackpool goal. Everton midfielder Tim Cahill saw a long range effort power just wide as he was invariably the man trying to conjour up a second goal. The Australian again went close when he forced keeper Paul Rachubka into a full-length save to tip away his curling shot before Everton upped the pace the other side of the interval.

A sublime pass with the outside of the right foot by Cahill released Yakubu on goal but he failed to get the bend needed on his shot as he opened up his body and aimed for the far corner. Blackpool then almost caught Everton out with a sucker-punch after barely having had an attack worthy of the name. Chris Taylor stepped up to take a 25-yard free-kick only to see his effort hit the outside of the post with Everton keeper Tim Howard well beaten.

Paul Rachubka was quickly forced into action soon after as he blocked a Jermaine Beckford volley and kept out the follow-up overhead kick from Collison. The chances were now flowing for the away side and Gueye guided a header on to the crossbar before finding Paul Rachubka with another header when left unmarked eight yards out. A battling Arteta set up Beckford for a clear strike at goal late on from six yards only for the Englishman to sky his effort as the blues failed to put the game to bed.

    Final Score: Blackpool 0-1 Everton.

Blackpool: Rachubka, John-Baptiste (Eardley 45), Crainey, Evatt, Davies (Edwards 61), Southern, Adam, McCann (Clarke 52), Taylor, Vaughan, Ormerod.
Subs Not Used: Gilks, Eikrem, Spence, Coid.

    Booked: Evatt.

Everton: Howard, Neville, Baines, Jagielka, Heitinga (Distin 58), Rodwell, Collison, Arteta, Cahill, Bilyaletdinov (Gueye 58), Yakubu (Beckford 58).
Subs Not Used: Mucha, Yobo, Osman, Fellaini.

    Goals: Collison 25.

    Att: 9,645.
