2052 - The Job Search:
After leaving Shakhtar Donetsk in 2052 following largely successful times, I headed to the job centre in hope of finding a new job. My aim was to get a club in similar standing to Shakhtar, i.e. a big club in a country capable of winning their domestic trophies as well as putting a fight up in European competition.

I departed Ukrainian football on 6 June 2052, it took until May 2053 until I found a job I was interested in. Panathinaikos of the Superleague Greece were that first team, the Greek top tier champions in two of the last four seasons. I eventually got an interview, took it and it went well and they eventually offered me the job. However, there were other posts open that took my fancy so I delayed Panathinaikos twice, to which they accepted both times. On their third approach, I still hadn't heard back from others properly so decided to turn down Panathinaikos; out of fairness to them, as their pre-season and UEFA Europa League qualifiers were starting soon.

During that period, Vorskla offered me an interview to replace their manager. I rejected their interview, not wanting to return to Ukraine. Zorya Luhansk, also in Ukraine, offered an interview too - I gave the same response. The reason I rejected Panathinaikos was because the Benfica and Ajax jobs became available. Benfica was a long shot but Ajax was possible. Both gave me interviews but both chose different managers. So my gamble of rejecting Panathinaikos backfired but I still think waiting for Benfica and Ajax was the right thing to do. Unfortunately, that left me right back at square one with no jobs that I fancied open. I subsequently holidayed month-by-month to wait for other departures.

Another Ukrainian club came in for me, Olexandriуa, but I rejected their advances too. Back when Panathinaikos were interested, Standard Liège of Belgium were too. I was semi-interested, but chose not to apply or declare interest back then. However, they became open again this time around after my holidaying. I applied this time. Which I also did for Austria Vienna, who sacked their manager. Austria Vienna were first to give me an interview, before offering me the job prior to Standard even responding. I immediately accepted Austria Vienna's offer on 15 December 2053.

I am the new manager of Austria Vienna in the Tipico Bundesliga! Very happy, my first taste of Austrian football on Football Manager. They've won 34 league titles, 10 since the save began including two of the last six. 38 ÖFB Cups have been won, 11 in the save; the current holders. As for the now, they currently sit 4th in the league table but are out of the Champions League/Europa League and the ÖFB Cup, meaning I just have the league to focus on - the board are expecting us to secure UEL football (3rd to 5th/6th). I start my new role during the winter break, so will have a friendly period to settle in as well as a transfer window.

2054 - January to March:
I've started my new job with Austria Vienna. I joined at a near-perfect time, during the mid-season break meaning I had a friendly period to get my ideas across as well as a transfer window there if needed. All the board want is a league placing for the UEFA Europa League next season. With us being 13 points off of 2nd (UEFA Champions League) and 11 points off 3rd (Europa League), my aim as to keep the club 4th (also UEL) and fend off the clubs below us.

Fixtures:

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/qV67tEu.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/SNUtOy5.png

I enjoyed the four friendlies I was able to play with my new team, we got wins over Fussballakademie Linz, Vaduz and Thun but did narrowly lose to Slovacko. It was a good spell with the players, my two new signings (see below) José María Aranburu and Elvis Bento have settled in terrifically, striker Aranburu notched eight goals in those friendlies while midfielder Bento got one. I was confident heading into my first competitive match in charge of the club - Wacker Innsbruck, at home.

It was the best possible beginning to life in Vienna as I guided the club to a 4–1 victory, Bento scored the opener prior to goals from Daniel Aengenheister and Aranburu (x2). That's the club's joint-best goal differential win all season, the most goals they've scored in a victorious league match all campaign. Excellent performance. We then faced runaway Bundesliga leaders Red Bull Salzburg days later, where we performed very well once more but unfortunately they nicked the three points after a Karl Schneeberger goal got them a 1–0 win. The fixture list didn't get any easier with Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg (3rd) and Vienna derby rivals Rapid (2nd) coming in two of the next three.

Mattersburg arrived first on 15 February at the Generali-Arena, we got a goalless draw with the team above us in the table. Of course would've liked all three points, but can't complain with a point. Before facing Rapid, we played Guntamatic Ried away. This was the first bad performance under my management, Ried beat us 3–1 and were fully deserving of the points; Aranburu did make it 2–1 at one point but it wasn't enough. It was to be four winless matches next time out as we tied 0–0 with Rapid Vienna, but the performance was much improved. No win in four, but those were tough fixtures (Ried aside). After this, a run of more friendlier fixtures followed.

A first of two meetings inside a week with Wiener Neustadt was played on 25 February, it was a rearranged fixture from earlier in the season; our game in hand on those above. We actually dropped to 6th due to that winless spell, but shot back up to 4th after we beat Wiener 3–2 via goals from Nils Eschweiler, Bento and Erwin Ambs. Puntigamer Sturm Graz were our next opponents on the road, we made it two straight wins after Ambs got two goals in as many matches but we only tasted victory thanks to a dramatic late winner from Alex Hernández, it was a stunner too - see it below! Another late goal would come in the second match-up with Wiener Neustadt on 7 March 2054.

This time, however, it was much less dramatic and much less spectacular as Tim Schmidt got a tap-in to make 2–0 late on, Eschweiler had given us the lead; as he did on 25 February. One week later, we faced rock bottom SKN St. Pölten on home turf. Despite their woefulness, St. Pölten gave us a good test throughout the ninety minutes but thankfully we went away happiest as season top goalscorer Luis Sánchez, returning from lengthy injury, returned with a winning strike. Finally, to end my opening months with Austria Vienna, we beat RZ Pellets WAC (known as Wolfsberger in-game) 1–4 to make it five straight wins. Superb run of form!

That win in Wolfsberg was actually crucial, as Ried (team below us) and Mattersburg (team above us) both lost their matches. That means we sit just 2 points off 3rd and 6 points ahead of 5th. We've closed the gap to 3rd from 11pts to 2pts, while now only 8pts off the Champions League places (previously 13pts). Very happy with the impact I've made, 3rd is a real possibility but 2nd might just be out the question with seven games to play - you never know, we'd need them to slip up even more but do play them once more this campaign so we'll see. I just want Europa League football for next season, as do the board. Award/squad stats/transfers are below.

Fixtures:

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/PAxs30M.png

On 4 April, we faced Wacker Innsbruck at the Tivoli Stadion. Erwin Ambs went onto score the winning goal to secure us three points. That was our sixth straight victory, but that streak was ended by Red Bull Salzburg a week later; they beat us by one single goal, just like in February. Positive signs to only be narrowly losing to the far and away leaders Salzburg. We rebounded with back-to-back victories over Guntamatic Ried and, most importantly, Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg. Ried were beaten by two goals to one after a brace from Alex Hernández, a man who then scored the winning goal over Mattersburg for a 1–2 scoreline. Huge three points!

That win over Ried took us above Mattersburg on goal difference as they lost to Salzburg the next day, prior to our meeting the following week. Hernández netted again, this time with an 63rd minute beauty - just like last post, see below! Three big goals in two games from Hernández, who sadly will be leaving us at the end of the season after he agreed a pre-contract with Granada of Spain during my first months. Disappointing, but I've already got a replacement signed for when he goes. For now, he's a key player. Anyway, the win over Mattersburg put us three points ahead of the team that once led us by 11pts when I joined.

Unfortunately, in the next match, we lost to rivals Rapid Vienna 2–1 at their Allianz Stadion home, thankfully Mattersburg dropped points in a draw with Wacker. That put us 2pts clear of 4th with two matches to play, we won our following match at home to Puntigamer Sturm Graz by two strikes to nil; from Nils Eschweiler and José María Aranburu. Mattersburg also won though, winning by the same scoreline over Ried. So, heading into the final day we visited Wiener Neustadt while Mattersburg were also away from home to Rapid. We frustratingly lost to Wiener 2–1, despite leading early. Luckily for us, our big rivals Rapid did us a favour by beating Mattersburg. 3rd!

3rd is a big deal. 4th would've put us in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League, but 3rd means we are directly into the group stages of the competition the board wanted me to qualify us for. Not that you could tell by the aftermath, the board have subsequently put my job status at 'very insecure'. Very bizarre. I exceeded expectations, they wanted Europa League and I got it for them; but overturned an 11pt gap to make the GS qualification spot rather than the 3QR which is where they sat when I was appointed. There have been zero player mishaps or anything, it has all been plain sailing off the pitch and I only lost 5 games; two to Salzburg - but gained 32 points overall!

Could be a short spell in Vienna! Hope not, feel I've got a great platform to build upon. We'll see. To end the season, we're currently on a tour of the United States. In game one, we demolished Bethlehem Steel of the United Soccer League by five goals to nil. In game two, we'll face the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer at Red Bull Arena. Two awards won are below, as well as the squad stats.

Alex Hernández's goal 2.0!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXhdyzzUhso

Late edit: I just had a look around the board confidence, it seems I'm getting the blame for "bad performances in all competitions" - I joined when they were out of everything bar the league, which has been improved. Yet on the individual competition confidence screen, it says they aren't judging on past comps and are happy with the league... The quirky side of Football Manager showing once more.

2054 - June to August:
My first full season with Austria Vienna begins. After guiding the club from 4th (11pts behind) to 3rd in my opening six months, I thought that got us from a UEFA Europa League third qualifying round starting spot to a group stage start. However, that wasn't the case as, despite them being the league rules, it was superseded by the Austrian Cup winners - who were (second tier!) LASK, so they therefore get the group stage berth and we were relegated down to the 3QR. That 11pt comeback was all for nothing - thought it was too good to be true. FM'd!

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/FJo55AJ.png

We ended last season's United States tour with a match at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey against the New York Red Bulls, we easily beat Red Bull Salzburg's sister club 0–4. After a short off-season, the players returned for a tour closer to home - to Romania. Matches were scheduled versus Astra Giurgiu and Iași as well as a double header in-between against the two Poli Timișoara clubs in ACS and ASU. We returned home from Romania with four wins in four, scoring three plus goals in all matches. Impressive pre-season from us. Needed.

Our first competitive fixture of 2054–55 came in the Austrian Cup first round against newly-promoted Flyeralarm Admira at home, we eased into round two thanks to a brace from José María Aranburu and a returning goal from Johann Adamczyk, who was out on loan last campaign - I had planned to use him but unfortunately, as you'll see below, I was forced to sell him soon after. A week after facing Admira, the first league match of the new season was played as we faced Wiener Neustadt and we came away with the win thanks to a second consecutive Aranburu double. Due to LASK's heroics, we were put in the UEL 3QR and made to face Hungary's Videoton.

The first leg, away, with Videoton was played on 30 July, the month's final encounter. We scored three unanswered goals at the Sóstói Stadion to secure a dominant victory, Nils Eschweiler got a brace himself to go with an Erwin Ambs strike. Tie all but over, which enabled us to rest key players in leg two. After Videoton leg one, we played Wacker Innsbruck in the Tipico Bundesliga and subsequently made it four competitive wins in a row with a 2–0 win on our own patch. That streak was put to five and then to six following wins over Videoton and Guntamatic Ried. Videoton were defeated 3–1 (6–1 agg.) while Ried were beaten 0–1. Daniel Aengenheister scored three of the four goals.

After six straight victories, our run of top results came to an end over the only other Bundesliga 100%ers in Red Bull Salzburg. The champions of the last three seasons, by a huge distance, ended our streak whilst continuing theirs with a narrow one-goal win. That's my third meeting with Salzburg since joining Austria Vienna, all three have basically been the exact same - decent performance, but Salzburg just a little bit better and grab one goal to win it. Frustrating to say the least. Thankfully, we have responded superbly with four consecutive wins in all competitions.

In the Europa League play-off round, we were drawn to face Anorthosis Famagusta. Kind draw. We ended up advancing 0–5 on aggregate following a 3–0 win in Vienna and a 0–2 win in Larnaca, Cyprus. Group stages here we come! In-between the Anorthosis encounters, we had a league meeting with Admira - just like in the cup, we made light work of them and won 2–0. After Anorthosis, the final match of these months came against Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg. We won it in style, gaining the three points with a 0–4 victory at the Pappelstadion - Ambs notching two late goals.

Overall, an excellent start to the campaign. A loss to the best team in the country the only blemish. After 6 games, we sit 2nd with 15pts after 5/6 wins - three points clear of Puntigamer Sturm Graz. Three off Salzburg, we will need to keep going incase they drop off. That's not our battle though, I want and the board want a 2nd place finish which would give us UEFA Champions League football for next season. We remain in the Austrian Cup and have got into the group stages of Europe. In our group, we'll face Arsenal (ENG), Bursaspor (TUR) and Hapoel Beer-Sheva (ISR). Arsenal aside, a very capable draw.

It was a somewhat uncomfortable transfer window. I couldn't really sign any of my key targets due to a lack of funds, whilst the club board went over me a few times to sell some first-team players who, despite not being absolutely crucial, I didn't want to lose as it would weaken the squad depth.

INS:
Mohammed Kawarmala (Loan, CM, Club Brugge)
Gerardus Simon (Loan, LW, Standard Liège)
Edward Tetteh (Loan, LB, Lille)
Paul Bernard (Free, CM, Bordeaux)
Neto (Loan, CB, Atlético Mineiro)
David Farías (Loan, GK, Argentinos Juniors)

In the end, I was pleased with my signings despite the budget restraints. Kawarmala is a depth for midfield signing, yet to feature that much. Simon was signed to be back-up to Tim Schmidt, but has turned into first choice as Schmidt left us. Very good thus far. Tetteh is a back-up left-back. Bernard is Alex Hernández's replacement, he has been excellent so far. Neto is a back-up central defender, impressed with him so far. Farías was signed to be a second/third-choice 'keeper, but has become number one due to an injury to Germán Madrigales. Loanee Madrigales was terrific last season and good early on this, but Farías has been top notch thus far so Madrigales will struggle to get his spot back.

OUTS (notable):
Marc Klose (Loan, LB, LASK)
Kamil Moskal (-, CB, Retired)
Alex Hernández (Free, CM, Granada)
Marko Dzaja (£725k, CM, Werder Bremen)
Tim Schmidt (£2.6m, LW, Toulouse)
Luís Duarte (£525k, CM, Ingolstadt)
Johann Adamczyk (£4.4m, FW, Paris Saint-Germain)
Dennis Blaikner (Loan, CB, Werder Bremen)

Klose wanted a loan move and got one, while Moskal retired despite me wanting him to reconsider. Hernández was a big loss, brilliant last campaign but was ageing so Bernard, 23, is a great replacement. Dzaja is a promising talent, Bremen snapped him up and gave us a good fee. Duarte and Blaikner wanted their respective moves and got them. Schmidt and Adamczyk were nothing to do with me, the board annoyingly accepted the offers themselves. I couldn't even protest as I had already done it with a different player before, so the game didn't allow me these times - stupid but hey-ho. I didn't want any of them to go, but if the board sold Aranburu or Eschweiler I may have departed the club in protest. Thankfully, the transfer business hasn't affected us on the pitch.

2054 - September and October:
After winning all but one of our eleven opening fixtures in all competitions with Austria Vienna, we headed into September and October 2054 in confident mood as we looked to keep on the tails of Red Bull Salzburg but also extend the gap inside the top two UEFA Champions League places.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/Kgkv1Ek.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/2vPE64c.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/yC8wEwt.png

RZ Pellets WAC were our first opponents of September, we beat them 4–0 at the Generali-Arena meaning we had won back-to-back league matches by a four-nil margin after that victory over Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg on 30 August. The match will be memorable for English youngster Will Wall who scored his first-ever goal in his first league appearance for goal two. Our UEFA Europa League group campaign got underway on 17 September with a trip to London, England to face Arsenal. They completely outclassed us to win by four goals to zero, we didn't turn up but even if we did Arsenal probably still would've won by a few goals.

Three days later, we drew our first match this season to rivals Rapid Vienna. It was a lacklustre performance, José María Aranburu saved us a point. It was disappointing to draw with our rivals, but it was more disappointing as Red Bull Salzburg actually dropped points the day before (draw with Puntigamer Sturm Graz) so we could've closed the gap to just one point; instead, it remained three. The Austrian Cup second round saw us meet CASHPOINT SCR Altach of the Sky Go Erste Liga. I fielded a rotated eleven due to fixture congestion but it didn't show as our back-up team won 0–3 with Thomas Dierks scoring twice.

A 0–3 cup win was followed by a 4–0 league win, over Wiener Neustadt. Aranburu scored as did Elvis Bento, but the star man was left-winger Gerardus Simon who netted a brace. Simon has really stepped up, originally signed as back-up he became first choice after Tim Schmidt left and has been outstanding; showing so again a match later as he scored in a Matchday 2 UEL match-up with Hapoel Beer-Sheva, Paul Bernard also got a goal. Hapoel at home was October's opening game, the second was in the league against Sturm Graz at home. It looked like we were going to drop points at 1–1 on 89mins, but we secured the points via a sensational 90' goal from Erwin Ambs (see below).

Wacker Innsbruck hosted us on MD11 of the Tipico Bundesliga, we gave them no gifts for their hospitality as we cruised to a 1–4 win after strikes from Bento, Aranburu, Simon and Nils Eschweiler. That was our fourth win this season by scoring four goals, another one came a few weeks later in the cup. Before that, we got a massive win in the Europa League over Bursaspor. Simon scored on 59mins to achieve us back-to-back UEL wins. With Arsenal running clear with 3/3 wins and Hapoel at the bottom with 3/3 losses, a win at home to Bursaspor on MD4 should be enough for us to qualify. That other four goal win, in the cup, was versus Austria Lustenau (A). Were 2–0 down though!

Due to that cup fixture, our match set for the weekend before was postponed and rescheduled. Red Bull Salzburg, the club we are chasing, still played and won, meaning we're now six points behind but do have a game in hand. The gap remained six as we both won in October's final encounter, we beat Flyeralarm Admira 1–2 cheers to late strikes from Aranburu and Eschweiler. Salzburg beat Mattersburg. So, only two non-wins in these two months with nine victories, all of the last eight in a row! Yet, we're 2nd in both Bundesliga and Europa League. Looking very good though! Very happy. 2054 draws to a close with seven Tipico Bundesliga fixtures and three critical UEFA Europa League group matches.

Group G's Matchday 4 in the Europa League saw us host Süper Lig outfit Bursaspor, a side we beat 0–1 on their patch in October. Due to the group circumstance as mentioned previously, a win here probably would've secured us our progression but sadly Bursaspor held us to a tie to gain a point. Then came Red Bull Salzburg in the league, their machine just keeps on churning as they beat us 3–0 - makes a change to all those 1–0 losses we've had versus them! We responded with a 5–1 hammering of Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg, José María Aranburu netted a hat-trick while Nils Eschweiler got two. Super win.

That was as good as it got for a couple of weeks as we then went on a run of three straight defeats which led to a four winless streak. Arsenal beat us 0–4 in Europe as expected, but we suffered league losses to the two sides chasing us - Rapid Vienna (1–3) and Puntigamer Sturm Graz (1–0). The fourth match in this spell was actually a good result, we drew 0–0 in Israel away to Hapoel Beer-Sheva which confirmed us as group runners-up as Arsenal beat Bursaspor in Group G's other encounter. We'll faced Torino (ITA) in the first knockout round. Never easy against a 'top five' league team but I'm looking forward to it, we have a chance.

Winning ways resumed with victories over Wiener Neustadt (9th) and RZ Pellets WAC (10th), both on the road. Aranburu got the game's only goal to get past Wiener, he also got a goal in the nil-two win over the league's bottom club. The year finished with a disappointing draw at home to Wacker Innsbruck, Aranburu did score again though. Overall, a pretty poor two months as we only scored in five of the ten matches. However, the full picture is very pleasing. We're still 2nd in the Bundesliga and we're into the knockout rounds of the Europa League. We're also still in the Austrian Cup, KSV (known as Kapfenberger in-game) await in the quarter-finals. Salzburg are a run away force, a massive slip-up is needed if we are to win the title. 2nd would be a big improvement anyway.

2055 - January to March:

In the winter break, we took a trip to the Middle East to Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar to face Al-Ahli Saudi, Shabab Al-Ahli, Al-Gharafa and Al Ain - we beat all four of them, José María Aranburu was in superb form scoring seven goals versus Shabab Al-Ahli, Al-Gharafa and Al Ain. Upon returning to Austria, we got our Tipico Bundesliga campaign back underway with an away match against Guntamatic Ried. Josef Fett got the game's only goal to secure the points, in what was one of, if not the, first start under my management. The 28-year old has barely featured for me, that goal helps his cause massively.

Days later we met Torino in the first leg of our UEFA Europa League first knockout round, at home. They ended the match as 0–1 winners, very much deserving of the victory but we didn't play too badly. Prior to the second leg, we had a league match with Flyeralarm Admira which ended up being a rather dire affair as it ended goalless. Once again we would've closed the gap to Red Bull Salzburg with a win because they dropped points before our match, predictably we didn't win. Full attention turned to Turin for the second leg in Europe vs. Torino. It was pretty much just like leg one, except they converted more of their chances to lead 4–0 on aggregate; Aranburu got us a consolation.

That's our European journey over. Six straight Bundesliga fixtures were to come. Aranburu made it three goals in two fixtures with a brace to get us a win over Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg, but failed to find the net in the following match with Salzburg as we lost 1–2 at the Generali-Arena. If the title race wasn't already over, it was now. They are a ridiculous team. Things got worse as we lost to fierce rivals Rapid Vienna in the following match, Shûta Horio scored for them as he always seems to do against us. Thankfully, we stopped the rot of back-to-back losses with back-to-back victories in the Bundesliga over Ried and RZ Pellets WAC.

Both at home. Four goals were scored versus Ried, Erwin Ambs got two goals between strikes from Paul Bernard and Juan Pardo - a new signing. Pardo scored again against RZ Pellets WAC, as did Ambs. The final match of March was a defeat though, at the hands of Puntigamer Sturm Graz. Heading into the final two months of the scheduled season, we are still 2nd in the Bundesliga but rivals Rapid have closed the gap from 4pts to 2pts; thanks to a very impressive victory away to Salzburg recently. Talking of Salzburg, the gap to them is 16pts; was 15pts. Elsewhere, we're out of Europe but remain in the Austrian Cup.

Two came in and two went out in the transfer window.

INS:
Manuel Jesús (Loan, CB, Real Betis)
Juan Pardo (Loan, LW, Porto)

Jesús was signed to add depth at centre-back, yet to impress. Likewise Pardo, for left wing. Slow start to his life in Vienna but he has come good lately, has taken Gerardus Simon's spot in the first eleven.

OUTS:
Maciej Czaplinski (Loan, RW, Osmanlıspor)
José Eduardo (£180k, RB, Atlético Paranaense)

Czaplinski, my back-up RW, wanted a loan move, got one to Turkish football. Eduardo was back-up RB, but wanted out after hardly featuring - returns to his homeland with Paranaense.

2055 - April and May:
Crunch time in 2054–55. The final nine league fixtures were to come in April and May, while we aimed to go as far as we could in the Austrian Cup.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/rLGFyyJ.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/weizYIK.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/Z3FRCQF.png

Wiener Neustadt were our first opponents for April, we ran away with a 5–1 home victory - Nils Eschweiler and Erwin Ambs grabbed braces while Paul Bernard got the other. Days later we met KSV in the Austrian Cup quarter-final. It would take extra time, but we advanced to the semi-finals with a 2–1 win - Eschweiler scoring the all-important goal. We then wouldn't lose any of our next two Tipico Bundesliga fixtures as we drew with Guntamatic Ried but beat Wacker Innsbruck, Ambs scored all four of our goals in those two matches which included a hat-trick in Innsbruck. Our four-game unbeaten streak in April ended next time out as we lost to Red Bull Salzburg (2–0).

Thankfully, we returned to winning ways for our following match - the cup semi-final with LASK. Eschweiler scored yet again, after Gerardus Simon had made it 0–1 six minutes previous. Into the final, where we'd face Wacker Innsbruck who stunningly knocked out runaway league leaders Salzburg. We had to put all that to the back of our minds, as we had a crucial run of five Bundesliga fixtures to play to try and secure UEFA Champions League football for next season. Our first result after the Austrian Cup semi-final matched April's opener - a 5–1 home win. This time it came over Bauwelt Koch Mattersburg, Leonhard Eckert, deputising due to injuries, exploded onto the scene with four goals!

That, quite frankly, was as good as it got, we went onto lose three of our final four league matches. Defeats arrived to Flyeralarm Admira, RZ Pellets WAC and, most notably, Rapid Vienna. Hideous set of results, losing to two of the bottom four is inexplicable. Rubbed in with a defeat at the hands of not only our rivals, but the team that subsequently leapfrogged us into second place. Rapid would eventually get 2nd by ten points, that's despite us being there for the majority of the season. Our league campaign ended with a, thrilling for the neutral, 3–3 tie with Puntigamer Sturm Graz. Incredibly frustrating end to 2054–55. We blew 2nd. Things got worse, though.

We lost the Austrian Cup final to Wacker Innsbruck. Third bottom Wacker. Disgraceful, in all honesty. In the four Bundesliga meets with them, we were undefeated with three wins - so, of course, when it mattered they got the better of us. A ninth-minute goal from Riccardo Bozzetti won it for them. As we lost to a non-top two club, we don't get a group stage berth in next season's UEFA Europa League that 3rd would secure - third qualifying round it is. I really have no luck in cup finals lately, back with Shakhtar Donetsk I lost back-to-back Ukrainian Cup finals to Desna - a similarly bottom half club. Bizarre.

We go again next season. Despite that season end, the board are happy enough with me - job status at 'stable'. One other thing to mention. For that Austrian Cup final, the game kinda screwed me over. All but two of my loan players returned to their parent clubs on 31 May 2055 - the cup final was on 3 June 2055. That included my two first-choice goalkeepers, meaning I had to play third-choice Lukas Holzer for it. You would've thought 'end of season' loans would end at, you know, the end of the season! Apparently not! Lastly, that most recent derby with Rapid was my 1,300th game in management.

2055 - June to August:
Not the usual post. Here's why.

http://i.imgur.com/zI50QR8.png

I've resigned as manager of Tipico Bundesliga side Austria Vienna.

https://i.imgur.com/wQ46txj.png

After only five competitive matches of 2055–56 I departed the Austrian club following board disagreements. It all came about as the board accepted a transfer offer for our star striker, José María Aranburu, from Sevilla of La Liga Santander*. I had a feeling it was coming, given Aranburu's form since I signed him and they way Austria Vienna's board are. Sevilla came in with a bid, the board accepted it which led to me protesting the transfer. They were having none of it, so I threatened my resignation and they still didn't change their minds. I gave them one final ultimatum and they let me resign. Sad way to leave the club, but it was the right thing do; as explained below.

That wasn't the first time they tried to/did sell a player over me. The others were last season, when our squad was much stronger and they weren't critical first-team players. This time though, it was literally our best player - Aranburu. The man I signed within the first month of my tenure back in 2054 from Real Sociedad has been superb, carried us at times. He scored 34 goals in 63 games for the club. Last season he was our most important player, but even more this campaign as we lost most of our loan signings from last season which meant our squad was extremely thin heading into 2055–56, due to that and the fact the board gave me peanuts to spend in the market. Enough was enough.

Disappointed to leave Austria Vienna, I was enjoying it overall - the board were dire throughout, but the players and fans liked me a lot - first job in a while I've left with good feelings with the fans in truth! I was only in charge for one full season plus six months prior to that full campaign and these two months at the end. Never got close to the league title, but seriously should've won the ÖFB Cup last season - woefully losing to Wacker Innsbruck in the final.

*worth noting: Aranburu's transfer to Sevilla seemingly fell through. However, he has since been sold to Red Bull Salzburg, of all clubs! Sums up the Austria Vienna board to be honest.

That's job thirteen done and dusted. My manager is still only fifty-nine years old, so still got a good ten or eleven years left in him before retirement. Onto the next one!

2055 - The Job Search:
It's August 2055, I've just departed Austria Vienna. I go in search of job number fourteen.

http://i.imgur.com/zI50QR8.png

Not much to share, in truth. It took months until I even had a hint of an idea of a job I wanted, those were PAOK of Greece and Rangers of Scotland. Both are recent champions in their respective countries, but both started this current campaign poorly. I declared my interest, despite both still having managers but their job status' were at 'insecure'. All associated with PAOK didn't really reveal anything, but with Rangers there were developments. Their fans laughed me off twice, but soon after they sacked their manager. I subsequently applied for the job and, after an interview,...

https://i.imgur.com/uNdBmqh.png

...I'm off to Scotland! Rangers have appointed me their new manager. Looking forward to this. They are the champions of Scotland in four of the last five seasons; Dundee United won the other one! Celtic had won thirty-two straight league titles up until these recent years. Some dominance, but Rangers have very much been the top dog of late. I join with them as reigning champions but down in seventh, were eighth when they sacked their previous manager. However, they sit just seven points off top spot. Celtic aren't leading, nor Dundee Utd, but Dundee are in-fact! January 2056 is just around the corner, I have a transfer kitty of £16.53m and £60k in wages - the most I've had in the entire save! £10,000 p/w in my contract too. Rollin' in it!

2055 to 2056 - December and January:
I have begun my new adventure in Scotland, with reigning Ladbrokes Premiership champions Rangers.

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/nUq0qBQ.png

My opening match in charge was 2055's last, a meeting with league leaders Dundee at Dens Park. It was midfielder Stuart Henry who won me my first three points in Scotland with a pretty neat free-kick just before the interval. Ideal beginning. I looked to make it two wins from two in our following match, but it was no ordinary match as The Old Firm derby was upon us. Celtic hosted it on 2 January and, frankly, deservedly beat us 2–1 at BT Murrayfield Stadium (Celtic currently play there due to an expansion going on at Celtic Park). They dominated the majority of it but it did take them until stoppage time to score the decisive goal.

We had a fourteen day break in the following two weeks, we subsequently took a trip to Latvia to face Jelgava in a friendly. An easy victory came (0–3), Yeray Mesa with a penalty brace. A return to Premiership action saw us face St. Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium, where we had a great majority of the game by going two goals ahead via Liam Lavery and Mesa but it would go on to be a disappointing fixture as we threw that lead away to draw 2–2; they scored twice in five minutes on 59mins and 64mins respectively. Very frustrating. As was the whole experience at this point as transfers, tactics and just general stuff weren't going to plan.

Thankfully, we went onto win our next three matches in two competitions which signalled a change in mood at the club. Motherwell were dispatched 1–2 at Fir Park with goals from Martin Ritchie and Mesa, while we beat Ladbrokes League 1 outfit Cowdenbeath 0–3 away in the William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round and Tony Gibson scored the game's only goal against Partick Thistle for the third consecutive win. That means we sit 5th going into February and March's action, just three points off of table toppers Dundee United. It's tight, just five points separates 1st and 8th! I joined with the club 7th and seven points off 1st, so an improvement has arrived with me.

Something I forgot to mention in my opening post with Rangers, was the fact we are still in European football this season. The previous manager got them in the UEFA Champions League and finished 3rd in their group which puts us into the UEFA Europa League knockouts, where we have been drawn with Russian club Krasnodar. An old rivalry reignited, going back to my days in Russia with Krylia Sovetov between 2043 and 2048. In the other competitions, we remain in the Scottish Cup but are out of the Betfred Cup (due to past manager). The treble is still on! 2056 - February and March:
A busy February and March was on the way.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/wbMeV1d.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/DbOLZp3.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/8Ayf9XZ.png

Aberdeen were our first opponents of February, goals from Tony Gibson and Martin Ritchie gave us the victory. We then faced first place Dundee United at Tannadice Park, Matty Prosser put us ahead but our hosts scored three second-half goals to secure a big three points. That defeat was followed up with three consecutive ties across three different competitions. The first was a goalless one in the Scottish Cup fifth round over second-tier Inverness Caledonian Thistle which meant a replay, we then tied one-one in our UEFA Europa League first knockout round first leg against Krasnodar before getting the third draw, also 1–1, in the league vs Hibernian.

All three came at home, extra disappointing. However, that Krasnodar result was a good one which gave us a chance with the second leg in Russia. Leg two came days after the Hibs draw, there was no tie here as we produced a scintillating performance to win 2–4; we were 0–3 up after thirty-four minutes. Excellent display, we advanced 3–5 on aggregate and would face Olympique Lyonnais in the second knockout round. Sadly, we couldn't continue that form into our domestic football as we didn't win any of our following four fixtures in league and cup. After the UEL high, we suffered a Scottish Cup low as Ladbrokes Championship side Inverness knocked us out the cup 1–0. "Super Caley Go Ballistic, Celtic Rangers Are Atrocious"

We had to respond, and we did as we secured an excellent 1–1 draw in France away to Lyon in the Europa League 2KR first leg. Prosser scored to put us in the lead, which we held until the death when Lyon levelled the scores. Bitter pill to swallow, but still a good outcome. That scoreline was repeated not long later as we faced Ross County in the Ladbrokes Premiership, Ritchie netting our goal. We made it three 1–1s in a row in the second leg in Europe with Lyon, but sadly it wasn't the right result as it forced the tie into a penalty shoot-out. Which only means one thing, a defeat. Unfortunate way to go out, but still had a very credible run in the Europa League. Happy enough.

That overall form left us miles behind in the league but with two games in hand. We were fourteen points off leaders Dundee Utd at this point but have since secured back-to-back Premiership victories over Falkirk and Dundee, both at home on an aggregate of 4–2; Gibson, Petr Urban, José Francisco Cánovas and Ritchie got goals. Those were critical wins, it keeps the title race open ever so slightly. Twenty-four points available, eleven points off top spot. It's largely impossible but who knows. My aim now is to secure second place. It is our only focus as we're out of everything else. One award and squad stats below, as well as the transfer recap which I forgot in the last post. D'oh.

Transfers:
INS:
Dinis Silva (Loan, CM, Chelsea)
José Gabriel López (Loan, RW, Real Betis)
Yûtarô Togawa (Loan, GK, Liverpool)
José Francisco Cánovas (Loan, FW, Valencia)
Petr Urban (Loan, CM, Southampton)

Silva was a target of mine with Austria Vienna but they couldn't afford him, but Rangers could. He has done OK so far. López has been injured a few times in his short tenure so hasn't done much. Togawa immediately started playing, didn't do anything wrong but nothing great either - Dejan Antic was injured at his time of arrival, since regained no.1 spot. Cánovas looks highly-rated, cost a few bit in loan fees but he, in all honesty, looks absolutely terrible so far - played a fair bit early on and missed so many one-on-ones it's kinda crazy. £££ down the drain, it seems.

OUT:
Bobby McCabe (£7m, RW, AFC Bournemouth)

Didn't want him to go, but Bournemouth met his release clause and he didn't want to negotiate a new contract. Luckily got replacements.

2056 - April and May :

Fixtures:

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/Va1fYJf.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/dSAqcRk.png

After back-to-back wins to end March, we headed into April's Old Firm derby full of confidence. Not that you could tell, as we failed to turn up which allowed Celtic a narrow victory. Then came a trip to Edinburgh to meet Heart of Midlothian, goals from Tony Gibson and Yeray Mesa weren't enough as we were held to a 2–2 draw. Three points did come days later in what was probably the best performance of my tenure thus far - a 0–4 away day win over St. Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. Liam Lavery opened the scoring prior to strikes from Gibson and Mesa (x2). A friendly came a week later, where we won 3–0 at Ibrox Stadium versus Greuther Fürth.

Then came the Premiership split - a run of five fixtures against the top five. We failed to win any of the five, losing to Dundee, Partick Thistle and, disgustingly, to Celtic (6–1! six. one.) whilst drawing to Motherwell and eventual champions Dundee United. Embarrassing set of results, it meant we ended the campaign 5th and only scrapped UEFA Europa League football on goal difference and thanks to Dundee Utd beating 10th place Hibernian in the cup final. Woeful, woeful first six months with Rangers. My job status was at 'very insecure' here, but has improved over the off-season. I've subsequently gone on a transfer bonanza, signing eleven new players as you'll see next time.

2056 - June to August:
New season with Rangers in Scotland, aiming to make amends for a rather horrific opening six months in charge.

Just the two friendlies were played, both away in Belgium against Anderlecht and Club Brugge. Anderlecht beat us on penalties while we beat Club Brugge from six yards. I didn't take charge of either fixture, as I was too focused on securing my signings; of which I signed a huge load of players, literally changed my entire starting eleven as you'll see below. I got pretty much all of my dealings done in time for our UEFA Europa League qualifying opener, we were drawn to face the Republic of Ireland's Bohemian in the second qualifying round. It was to be a pretty simple progression into the next round.

We hosted the first leg and took a 3–0 lead to Dalymount Park, all scorers were new signings as all bar one of the line-up were - striker Ian Quinn opened the scoring while attacking players Asger Møller and Juan Manuel Bartolotta also netted. In Ireland, we won again by the score of nil-one thanks to a goal from Nicolae Vlad - our new midfielder. In the 3QR, UEFA gave us a tie with Alka Superliga outfit Aalborg. Our Danish opponents beat us in leg one by one goal, but thankfully we turned things around a week later at Ibrox Stadium after second-half strikes from Stefan Eisen and Martin Ritchie. Vital turnaround! Three days later, the Ladbrokes Premiership began.

What a first fixture - Celtic in the Old Firm derby. Sadly, they yet again got the better of me - winning 1–0. Four meets with them, four defeats. Not good enough! It was to be back-to-back defeats to start the domestic season as we were knocked out of the Betfred Cup in the following midweek to Partick Thistle, on penalties obviously. I thought it was going to be three straight defeats as we faced reigning league champions Dundee United on 12 August, but we turned up brilliantly at Ibrox to win 2–1 - the goals came from Eisen and Quinn. That result has really kickstarted our season as we haven't lost since, played four times in two competitions.

Next came the final qualifying round in the Europa League, where we'd face Qarabağ of Azerbaijan. A kind draw. We ended the tie in the first leg at home, Yeray Mesa scored a superb hat-trick alongside goals via Vlad and Kenji Fujishima. Not the best opponents, but a very nice performance from us. Before the second leg, we met Partick Thistle for the second time this season - this time in the league. It ended one-one, poor performance there. Qarabağ were then defeated by a single goal in Baku at the Azersun Arena, Møller got his second goal for his new club. Into the group stages! We rounded off these months with a Premiership victory over St. Johnstone (2–0).

Considering the massive squad overhaul in the summer, I am very pleased with how the new line-up has settled in - I was wary at making so many signings, but it has paid off so far. We're 4th in the Premiership, three points off leaders Partick Thistle. In the Europa League groups, we'll meet AFC Bournemouth (England), Juventus (Italy) and Malmö (Sweden). Such is the nature of this alternative universe set in 2056, Bournemouth (2053 PL champs) are a much bigger club than Juventus (no Scudetto since 2034!) nowadays! Elsewhere, we're out of the Betfred Cup annoyingly while the William Hill Scottish Cup is yet to begin for us.

Squad stats etc. are below.

Now, for the pretty hectic transfer window.

INS:
Nontas Panoulas (£54k, CM, PAS Giannina)
Ian Quinn (£3.6m, FW, Dundee)
Stefan Eisen (Loan, RM, Mainz)
Joël Biakolo (Loan, CB, AC Milan)
Nicolae Vlad (Loan, CM, Torino)
Juan Manuel Bartolotta (Free, CAM, Paris Saint-Germain)
Johan Driesen (Free, CDM, Mechelen)
Robert Mavric (Free, GK, Mechelen)
Ivan Bosnjak (Loan, LB, Manchester City)
Luka Nedic (Loan, CB, Newcastle United)
Asger Møller (Loan, LM, Swansea City)
Nino Kempf (Free, CM, Crystal Palace)
Dinis Silva (Loan, CAM, Chelsea)
Luis Freitas (£3.2m, RB, Arsenal)

Busy, to say the least! All bar a few are first eleven players. Panoulas was a pre-arranged deal from before I joined, decent young, squad player. Quinn is our new striker, has scored a good amount of goals for Dundee in the past years and was available for way less than his value due to a release clause - not set the world alight yet. Eisen is our starting right midfielder, excellent start to life with Rangers. Biakolo and Nedic are our starting centre-backs, both been solid. As have Vlad in central midfield, Bartolotta at attacking midfield and Driesen at defensive midfield. Mavric has been good when he's played, but hampered by numerous injuries. Bosnjak has been decent at LB.

I'm liking Møller on the left, netted a few goals and has settled nicely. Kempf has shown glimpses but hasn't featured much due to Vlad. Silva rejoins for a second loan spell, wasn't planning on getting him again but changed my mind - adds good depth. Freitas was going to replace Valdo Djaló, the only player from last season I planned on using this, as it looked like he was going to join Valenciennes but that didn't happen in the end - Freitas is good depth anyway. Done! As mentioned, only Djaló remains in the starting line-up from last season. The squad I inherited was a shambles, happy with my deals. £19m budget put to good use!

As for the OUTS, no-one big left - mainly just squad players. In all honesty, I didn't even mind if any "first teamers" from last campaign left, but no-one wanted them - I wonder why!

2056 - September and October:
Season two, though the first full season, with Rangers continues into September and October 2056. The Ladbrokes Premiership keeps going, while the UEFA Europa League group stage gets underway.

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/zJDS6XX.png

September began with a defeat, at home to Hibernian - the game flew by, we didn't bring anything and Hibs took their chances. Focus switched to the start of Group A in the Europa League, we hosted 2053 English Premier League champions AFC Bournemouth at Ibrox Stadium. It was an even affair, Yeray Mesa gave us a lead prior to Dave Moxon equalising five minutes later. Fair result. No win in two to start but we then won our next two, both in the Premiership. Juan Manuel Bartolotta netted a brace to give us victory away to Ross County (0–2), while Asger Møller, Tony Gibson and Ian Quinn scored to make us beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 3–0. Five goals, none conceded.

Matchday 2 in Europe saw us visit Turin to face Juventus, a team without Serie A success in twenty-two years! How times change. They still remain a very good opponent, who beat us by two clear goals. We performed admirably, it took them until 61mins to open the scoring while their second was a late penalty. Back in league action three days later, we made it three straight Premiership wins with three points away to Dundee - Gibson scored both goals in a 0–2 win. We then had a two week break due to the international break, our returning fixture saw us visit Motherwell. They held us to a fortunate 1–1 draw, we should've won that one. Then came Matchday 3 in the Europa League.

MD3 was the first of a double-header with Swedish club Malmö, who had lost two of two. We made it three for three with a 1–3 victory at the Swedbank Stadion, that's a crucial win as Juventus beat Bournemouth in the other match meaning it looks like we're in a race for second with Bournemouth - hopefully Juve beat Bournemouth on MD4 and we complete the double over Malmö. October ended with league matches with Aberdeen and Heart of Midlothian. A draw came vs. Aberdeen (1–1), but we did beat Hearts 2–0 via strikes from Stefan Eisen and Ivan Bosnjak.

As we head into the last two months of 2056, we sit second in the Premiership table but six points off leaders Celtic who are undefeated. We're level on points with second place Bournemouth in the Europa League, five points off Juventus (1st) and four clear of Malmö (4th). The cup situation is the same. Six awards and the squad statistics are below.

2056 - November and December:
We came into these two months with big work to do, as we sat six points off league leaders Celtic in the Ladbrokes Premiership as well as being behind the top two, AFC Bournemouth and Juventus, in our UEFA Europa League group.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/jG1d0g1.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/gx71xkP.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/tiMH3t5.png

November began with the best possible results. Firstly, we achieved Matchday 4 success in the Europa League with victory over Group A whipping boys Malmö; Stefan Eisen scored a brace for a 2–0 win. Following that, we got a huge result in the Old Firm derby over Celtic. Yeray Mesa this time got a double, which got me my first win over Celtic since joining Rangers (five attempts). It also closed the gap on the table toppers. A week later, Celtic dropped points as they drew with Dundee which meant we could close the gap to just one point if we beat Dundee United a day later. We did just that, in absolutely dramatic fashion at Tannadice Park.

Dundee Utd took the lead twice but we hit back twice to level the scores, it looked like it was heading for a draw and subsequent disappointment until Matty Prosser, a late substitute, popped up with a crazy 91st-minute goal to gain us three gigantic points. The gap was down to one. Sadly, we immediately undone that fine work with four consecutive defeats; two in the league, two in Europe. In the Premiership, St. Johnstone and Hibernian stunned us with victories. St. Johnstone demolished us 4–1, unbelievable performance from Andy Stuart who scored all four of their goals. While, Hibs weren't special but still netted eight minutes from time to get a big win for them.

In Europe, we lost to AFC Bournemouth on Matchday 5 - the English side narrowly beat us by one goal at the Vitality Stadium. That was a damaging loss, as it meant we had to beat Group A winners Juventus on the final day and hope pointless Malmö beat Bournemouth. Very unlikely. On MD6, we actually led Juventus 2–0 at Ibrox Stadium at one point which coincided with Malmö taking the lead over Bournemouth. The impossible was on, but not for long. Bournemouth fought back to win 2–1 so our result over Juventus was worthless - it seemed the players knew that as they threw it away in the last twenty-one minutes to lose 2–3 to the Italian outfit. Unfortunate outcome.

Demoralising results, we still had six Premiership matches to play to finish December so had to kick on and respond. Thankfully, the players did just that as we didn't lose any of the six encounters and even won all but one of them. Great response, despite a blip at one point. Mesa scored the game's only goal to make us beat Ross County on 10 December, then actually came a bitterly disappointing result away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. Inverness are bottom, yet managed to hold us to a 1–1 draw. Not good! Mesa then took it upon himself to help us hit form as he scored seven goals in December's four-game finale.

He scored braces versus Dundee (2–0) and Partick Thistle (2–1), the latter was our game in-hand which put us right back behind Celtic and, out of nowhere, fellow challengers Heart of Midlothian. Aberdeen faced us on 23 December, Mesa scored again but Asger Møller was the one with two goals here for a 0–3 victory. December and 2056 ended with a stunning performance at home to fourth place Motherwell, who we battered 5–1. Eisen and Mesa got a double each, Møller notched again also. Outstanding performance. Thanks to results elsewhere, it was one that took us joint top of the Premiership table. Celtic, however, lead on goal difference. Hearts are four points behind.

Our first two games of the new year? Hearts (A) and Celtic (A). Gonna be tense! Squad stats and awards are below, which includes my first individual managerial award since way back in 2039 with Mordovia (Russia) - December's Manager of the Month award. Finally in a country which appreciates and rewards their managers!

2057 - January and February:
2057 is here! Loads of Ladbrokes Premiership matches were to be played, along with the beginning of this year's William Hill Scottish Cup run.

Two huge league fixtures brought in the new year. Heart of Midlothian, 3rd, away and Celtic, 1st, also away; we came into them four points clear of Hearts and level on points with Celtic. The Hearts contest arrived on 2 January and, well, it wasn't much of a contest. We obliterated them at Tynecastle Park by five goals to zero, an own-goal got us going prior to a goal from Asger Møller and a hat-trick from Yeray Mesa. Got fortunate with the OG and two penalties for Mesa but still a marvellous win. Ten goals in two matches. Not bad at all! Before the Celtic affair, we had a week off so I scheduled a friendly with Russian Premier League club Zenit at Ibrox Stadium - we won 3–1.

We played the Old Firm derby at Celtic Park and returned home with a huge three points after Mesa and Møller put us two goals ahead in the first half, which is how it ended. That put us three clear of our fierce rivals. We were flying at this point, but were then put firmly back on the ground as we were eliminated from the Scottish Cup at the fourth round to Ladbrokes Championship leaders Falkirk. It ended 4–2 but they had led 4–0. Embarrassing cup exit, pretty much the exact same way as to last season versus Inverness Caledonian Thistle (also in Championship as table toppers). Another winless game followed, we drew 2–2 with Partick Thistle in January's penultimate fixture.

A return to winning ways came three days later as we beat reigning Premiership champions Dundee United at Ibrox, Nicolae Vlad and Stuart Henry notching goals. Then came a run of four matches which bounced from defeat to win to defeat to win. The first of those defeats came at home to St. Johnstone (1–2), somewhat of a bogey side of mine. The first of those wins came away to second bottom Ross County, Juan Manuel Bartolotta standing out with a double. The other defeat was a shocking one as basement boys Inverness beat us 0–1 on our own patch. Luckily, Celtic also tasted defeat versus Dundee Utd. The gap was three points at this moment.

February's final encounter, the other win, came against Hibernian on 24 February. Ian Quinn and Stefan Eisen netted the all important strikes, Celtic also won. Heading into the final four fixtures before the split, we are top of the Premiership table and lead rivals Celtic by three points. A top-two finish should be guaranteed as we are in-front of Motherwell (3rd) and Hearts (4th) by ten points. Just like last campaign, we only have the league to focus on as we're out of all the other competitions. Squad stats below, along with a load of awards including another Manager of the Month for yours truly.

The January transfer window has come and been. Three players officially joined the club while seven departed.

INS:
Stefan Eisen (£2m, RW, Mainz)
Nicolae Vlad (£1.9m, CM, Torino)
Kavan Bentley (Loan, LB, Crystal Palace)

Eisen and Vlad both signed permanent contracts after previously being on loan, we had an optional fee clause on both so I decided to tie them down while we had the money. Bentley is a youngster, we sold back-up Sam Brown so I wanted a new young left-back to challenge Ivan Bosnjak - our only U20s left-back isn't good enough, Bentley is mildly better. He has actually played a little recently as Bosnjak got injured, done OK.

OUTS (notable):
Sam Brown (£4.2m, LB, Middlesbrough)
Kamer Gjoni (Loan, CAM, Mersin İdman Yurdu)
Billy Barr (£1.4m, CM, Watford)
Pedro Santos (£650k, GK, Vitória Guimarães)

Brown wanted out despite me wanting to keep him, Boro came in with a nice offer so I let him go. Gjoni was a very deep back-up, felt he merited game time so allowed him to join Mersin in Turkey on loan as he wanted to. Barr was also back-up, just ahead of Gjoni. He wanted out, didn't need him so allowed him to leave. Santos was third/fourth choice 'keeper, almost left in the summer but that fell through. Other three outgoings were youth.

2057 - March and April:
2056–57 is close to finishing with Rangers in Scotland, we came into March and April in a title race with fierce rivals Celtic which we led by three points.

Fixtures:

Table:

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/8KflEQF.png

Quite a few bits of dead weeks in these two months, which allowed three friendlies to be played. The first came on 3 March 2057 against Legia Warsaw, Ian Quinn netted a hat-trick to secure victory. Before the other two exhibition matches, four of the six league games for March and April were played consecutively. On 11 March, Dundee held us to a 2–2 draw - Quinn continued his scoring form with both our goals. He also scored in our next Ladbrokes Premiership fixture, at home to Aberdeen to secure three points. We ended the regular season with matches versus Heart of Midlothian and Motherwell. We beat Hearts 1–0, Tony Gibson with the goal, but lost to Motherwell (1–0).

The other two friendlies were then played, we gained victories over Viking (3–0) and Glasgow University (9–0). Then came the league split, we've played two fixtures of it and gone winless in both. Aberdeen drew 1–1 with us, Stuart Henry netting. While Hearts beat us, convincingly, 3–1. Celtic also drew when we drew, but they won on the day we lost to Hearts so they've gone top of the table - three points clear with three to play. One of those three to play is against Celtic, which we have to win because, let's be honest, they won't drop points anywhere else and if they do; you can bet your life we will also drop points as has been the case all season. 2057 - May:
The final three matches of 2056–57. As Rangers manager, we were heading into the climax of the Ladbrokes Premiership season in the midst of a tense title race with Celtic. Three games to play, three points behind and we still had Celtic to play at Ibrox Stadium.

Fixtures:

Table:

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/s0CCfsN.png

May started well as we defeated Motherwell at Ibrox, Yeray Mesa scored twice to go with a Johan Driesen strike. Victory was made better with the news that Celtic dropped points away to Heart of Midlothian (0–0). That put the gap down to one point heading into the Old Firm derby. In the rivalry match, Celtic went home happiest as the match ended tied at 1–1. One point was the difference going into the final day, Celtic far favourites. On the last day, Celtic beat Aberdeen at Celtic Park to win their first Premiership title since 2050. Our result didn't matter, which was actually a relief as we lost to Dundee United 2–0 at Tannadice Park. 2nd place it is. Disappointing but very much expected.

It is an upgrade on last season which I was in charge of for the last six months, we placed 5th then and only scrapped UEFA Europa League football but this time we've easily achieved it. One funny thing to note though, last season (and seasons before) 2nd would've qualified us for the UEFA Champions League but that changed for this season - the season I finish there, very convenient! Tropheyless season but a minor improvement. Awards and squad stats are below.

2057–58 got going with three friendly matches to gear us up for our upcoming UEFA Europa League qualifying matches, one of which was a testimonial for long-serving central midfielder Stuart Henry. It was against Greenock Morton, a team he played on loan for back in 2045–46. We won 2–0 and, very fittingly, Henry rounded off the match with a goal on 93mins. Quite the turnaround for him, midway through last season he wasn't featuring and wanted to leave the club and almost did, but injuries meant he got a chance towards the end of last campaign and he took it. The other friendlies were away to Wacker Innsbruck in Austria and to Ipswich Town south of the border.

The Europa League second qualifying round was our starting point, we got drawn with Celje of the PrvaLiga Telekom Slovenije. They barely threatened as we went onto progress on an aggregate score of 1–7, it was all over after the first leg at Ibrox Stadium as goals from Pierluigi Gariboldi (new signing), Juan Manuel Bartolotta (x2) and Paul Gibson won us it 4–0. Bartolotta netted again in leg two as we won 1–3. In the 3QR, we would face Belgium club Waasland-Beveren over two legs. The first leg was played on 2 August 2057, we won it in East Flanders by a scoreline of 1–2. Prior to the second leg, the Premiership got underway at home to Hibernian.

Hibs were, like Waasland-Beveren, defeated 2–1. Bartolotta scored in both of those matches, he began the season in fine form. The second leg in Europe with Leeuwen at Ibrox was a much closer affair than the one in Belgium, they held us to a one-one tie - it was enough as we advanced 3–2 on aggregate. In the play-off round, we would meet another Belgian club in the shape of Lokeren. Before facing them, we had two Premiership encounters as well as the start of our Betfred Cup campaign. The first match back in the league was with St. Johnstone, who we beat away from home to become the only club to win two out of two in the Premiership; Ian Quinn notched a brace there.

Our Betfred Cup run is over at the first hurdle, for the second year running and again eliminated by Falkirk. Falkirk, now of the Premiership, beat us 3–2 at their ground. I'm having no luck in the domestic cups in recent years. More disappointment followed as we threw away a two-goal lead in the league on the road to Dundee - Quinn and Stefan Eisen gave us an interval lead but Dundee fought back to earn a point. Then came the first of two ties with Lokeren in the Europa League. We made light work of the 2057 Jupiler Pro League runners-up as we all but ended the tie with a 3–0 home win, Quinn scoring his fourth and fifth goals in the last four games. Allowed us to rest players in leg two.

Before hopefully fully knocking out Lokeren, we had a Premiership match with Partick Thistle. It was top versus bottom and it was us who took the points in a 3–1 victory - Quinn scoring again but Johan Driesen took the headlines with a double. The final match of July and August was the second leg with Lokeren, which actually ended in defeat as they won it 2–1 - much better from them but a 40th-minute Lewis Dougan goal meant the overall result was never in doubt as we went through 2–4. At this point, we are top of the Premiership table by four points. In the UEL, we're in a group with Valencia (ESP), Young Boys (SUI) and AZ (NED). Comfortable with that. Betfred Cup run over.

Board expectations, squad statistics and awards are below; I've won a fourth Manager of the Month award.

In the transfer market, I signed four players including blowing the budget on a new centre-back. Ten players departed but only half of them were notable, one of which was a big'un.

INS:
Joël Biakolo (£800k, CB, AC Milan)
Pierluigi Gariboldi (£11.75m, CB, AFC Bournemouth)
Eddie Brock (Loan, CB, AFC Bournemouth)
Ajdin Grahovac (Loan, LB, Vålerenga)

As you can see, strengthening the defence was my main focus as I was/am very happy with my squad but felt we needed a new central defender. Biakolo was on loan last season, I signed him down permanently as he was very good in 2056–57. Gariboldi is the new defender, an £11.75m signing from Bournemouth (ENG). Very pricey but that £11.75m is an initial fee as he was worth around £15m-£18m so to get it down to almost £12m with a huge amount of add-ons was nice - he looks the part so far. Brock is a promising CB, another from AFCB. They didn't want any fees for him and only a little in wages so he was a bargain - for squad depth. Like Grahovac, nothing too good but needed a back-up LB and he was the best available.

OUTS (notable):
Martin Ritchie (Loan, FW, Heracles)
Sean Bain (Loan, CB, Midtjylland)
Richard Smith (Loan, GK, Ross County)
Tony Gibson (£24m, CM, Manchester United)
Nino Kempf (£3.1m, CM, Mouscron)

T. Gibson was the big outgoing. He was an excellent central/attacking midfielder, had been linked with the likes of Chelsea previously and Man. United came in with an offer that matched his release clause of £24m; he was worth about £7m-£9m less than that so a very good deal for the club. As for the others, Ritchie, Bain and Smith were deep back-ups in their respective positions and wanted loans so I allowed them to go. Kempf wanted out permanently, I had little confidence in him so was happy to let him leave - £3.1m fee, signed him on a free so that was nice.

2057 - September and October:
The second update from the 2057–58 season with Scotland's Rangers.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/zrbwyfz.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/6UZrmTj.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/pNRmglt.png

Three consecutive victories arrived to begin September. The first two came in the Ladbrokes Premiership at home to Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Aberdeen, where we scored three goals both times while conceding only once - Juan Manuel Bartolotta netted twice versus Inverness, while the goals against Aberdeen were shared between Stefan Eisen, Ian Quinn and Nicolae Vlad. Then came arguably the greatest result of my Rangers tenure so far - we defeated La Liga Santander club Valencia on Matchday 1 in our UEFA Europa League group - Bartolotta and Ivan Bosnjak secured a 2–0 win at Ibrox Stadium. Super win!

Sadly, that was the peak of these two months as our form has dropped dramatically since with a run of just one victory in seven matches in Premiership and Europa League. After that win over Valencia, we lost to Heart of Midlothian by two goals on the road in my 1,400th career match. After that, Dundee United held us to a 1–1 draw. Matchday 2 in Europe then came along, AZ of the Eredivisie managed to beat us 3–2. Three days later, we had the season's first Old Firm derby against Celtic. Yeray Mesa and Asger Møller put us two goals in front but we sloppily threw it away to tie two-two in the second half.

Small respite was found next time out as we beat Motherwell 4–1 at Ibrox, we were a goal down until 60mins when Quinn scored the first of three goals to secure us victory along with a Mesa goal. October's penultimate match was in the Europa League, versus Young Boys of Switzerland. It ended 3–3 in dramatic fashion, we were leading 1–3 but our Bern hosts clawed it back, undeservedly, to 3–3. Very frustrating, as was the month's final match away to Falkirk in the league - they beat us 2–0; bogey side blah blah. Heading into November, we are somehow still top of the table but only remain there on head-to-head over surprise package Hibernian, who we play next. Celtic 3rd, two points off.

Celtic do have a game in hand though, win that and they'll be top despite a poor start from them. In the UEL, we are 2nd at the midway point - two points off leaders Valencia, level with Young Boys and one clear of AZ. It's tight! Out of Betfred Cup already, the William Hill Scottish Cup is yet to start. Awards/squad stats etc. below, as well as a transfer update - Stuart Henry and Nontas Panoulas have departed the club on loan to Cluj and Ross County respectively.

2057 - November and December:
Another year comes to a close. I'm currently midway through my second full season with Ladbrokes Premiership club Rangers.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/GkKt2Mp.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/K3Sz9fn.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/olqiZ7o.png

November's opener was a big one - Hibernian away in my 100th game with Rangers. 2nd vs. 1st. Sadly for us, Hibs subsequently went above into 1st in the table after defeating us by one goal. We hit back with three straight victories, the first of which came on Matchday 4 in the UEFA Europa League against Young Boys. Ian Quinn, Allan Willox and Yeray Mesa scored goals to give us a 3–1 win - that put us joint top with Valencia on 7pts, 3pts clear of AZ and Young Boys. The other two aforementioned victories came in the Premiership, both by a score of 1–0 at Ibrox Stadium against St. Johnstone and Dundee; Paul Gibson and Nicolae Vlad netting. Next came Valencia on MD5 in UEL.

The Group J leaders beat us fairly convincing at the Nou Mestalla, Juanfran De la Cruz and Gonçalo Oliveira scored for them. Disappointing defeat, but we still had a chance to qualify - a win was needed on the final day versus AZ. Before that, we'd face Premiership tests in Partick Thistle and Inverness Caledonian Thistle on the road. Partick shocked us 3–1, less said about that the better, while we defeated Inverness one-three in the Highlands. Mesa has really kicked on at around this moment, scoring three of the four goals in those two matches - he'd go on to score three further goals to end 2057. After Inverness, the final day showdown with AZ in Europe was upon us.

It was the worst possible start, as AZ took a third minute lead through Sergio Sion. However, the lads responded magnificently and went onto get a 3–1 Ibrox victory to seal progression into the knockout stages - the team merits credit, but Juan Manuel Bartolotta stole the headlines with a stunning hat-trick. He wouldn't score again in December following an untimely injury. With European advancement secured, focus firmly turned towards the Premiership which we were in a title race for with Celtic and Hibernian. Immediately following the AZ win, we dropped points at home to Aberdeen by drawing 2–2. Days later, we got three points by beating Heart of Midlothian 2–0; Mesa and Vlad goals.

Then came a crucial Old Firm derby with Celtic. In a sold-out 75,000 capacity Celtic Park, it was the hosts who took away the points - it ended 2–1 but we didn't turn up, only gaining one shot in the first half. That could be a critical defeat. We had to find a response and we did just that with narrow wins against Dundee United (1–0, Mesa) and Motherwell (0–1, Quinn). The title race is so tight heading into 2058, Hibernian are in front as it stands by a point to Celtic and two to us. Celtic hold the advantage, though, with a game in hand. It is still all to play for. Elsewhere: We'll face Mainz in the next round of the Europa League, while Celtic await in round four of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

The usual screenshots are below. One final thing, in November I was offered the Republic of Ireland national team job. Intriguing offer but I'm not interested in leaving Rangers nor going back into international management.

2058 - January and February:
2058's opening months brought crucial fixtures. Our Ladbrokes Premiership title race continued, we had an Old Firm derby in round four of the William Hill Scottish Cup and had the Mainz double-header in the UEFA Europa League first knockout round.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/W7Ffmws.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/Z50lQHn.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/stgBdvE.png

Four straight wins were on the menu to begin 2058, three of which were competitive. Falkirk were beaten on 2 January, Ian Quinn scoring a brace either side of a Kamer Gjoni strike. Then came the usual second week of January break, this time we filled it with a trip to Turkey to face Altınordu (won 1–2). After our trip to the İzmir Atatürk Stadium, we got a massive three points in the Ladbrokes Premiership with victory over title rivals Hibernian - Quinn netting another brace in a two-one win. The fourth and final win to start the new year came on 23 January in the league against Dundee - no Quinn goal here, Stefan Eisen and new signing Isaac Acheampong with the goals.

It wasn't to be a perfect January though as the month ended with defeat, in the Scottish Cup to rivals Celtic. They won 1–0. February started in similarly disappointing fashion as we drew 1–1 with St. Johnstone, Quinn's 62nd-minute goal was only enough for a point. After two matches winless, we went on another four-game winning streak - this time, all four were meaningful. Back-to-back Premiership wins arrived over Aberdeen and Partick Thistle, the former were beat 0–2 while the latter narrowly lost out 1–0 at Ibrox Stadium. That Partick result actually came on Wednesday, 13 February which meant we had a whole week to prepare for our Europa League 1KR first leg with Mainz.

That rest helped as we went into the Mainz game full of fitness and confidence, and dominated the entirety of leg one and deservedly won thanks to a goal from left-back loanee Ivan Bosnjak. We had a lead to take to Germany! Before leg two, we got a league victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle as Quinn scored his seventh and eighth goals of 2058 for a two-nil result. Four days later, we were eliminated out of the Europa League by Mainz. They won 6–1, yes - six. one., to knock us out. One of those matches, every highlight was a goal; we actually made it 1–1 on the night, 1–2 on aggregate but it was all for naught. Annoying way to go out.

Once again, as has been the case throughout my Rangers reign, we only have the Premiership to focus on going into the final three months. Out of the Europa League, Scottish Cup and Betfred Cup. In the Premiership, we sit two points off leaders Celtic with ten fixtures left to fulfil. Hibs, who had been challenging us two, have dropped off significantly. Awards/squad stats are below as well as the transfer round-up. IN: Felix Bois & Isaac Acheampong (Loans, CMs, Newcastle United) | OUT: Jordan Johnston (Loan, LM, Inverness). Bois has barely featured, but Acheampong has and has been superb. Johnston out is a youngster.

2058 - March and April:
The penultimate post of the 2057–58 campaign with Rangers. Just like in 2056–57, we came into it in a title race with Old Firm rivals Celtic.

Heart of Midlothian hosted us at Tynecastle Park to kickstart March 2058, goals from our talisman Ian Quinn (x2) and from star loan youngster Isaac Acheampong meant we went home with three points. Those two scored again in the following match, in what was a huge derby day victory over Celtic. Acheampong opening the scoring prior to Quinn making it two thirty-one minutes later. What a win! Sadly, any advantage we gained was immediately relinquished as we lost to Dundee United eleven days later. Asger Møller netted for us but three goals in the final twenty-five minutes got Dundee Utd the win. Celtic won on this matchday to regain top spot.

We ended the regular season with two consecutive wins. Motherwell were beaten at Ibrox Stadium on 30 March, Acheampong and Yeray Mesa with goals. Falkirk were then defeated on the road in April's opening fixture, Nicolae Vlad and Mesa netting there. Heading into the league's split, the title race was still well and truly on. That was almost not the case as we lost to Motherwell in the split's opening match, the Fir Park tenants won by one goal. Thankfully, we've hit back with two victories over Hibernian and Dundee United to complete March and April's matches. Celtic drew their most recent two Ladbrokes Premiership games, meaning we sit two points clear with two to play!

That means, we could seal the league title if we beat Aberdeen next time out and if Celtic fail to beat Motherwell away from home. If not that, it will go down to the final day which is, of course, an Old Firm derby meeting with Celtic. I'm truly hoping it doesn't come to that, it would be a hideous way to lose the title race - my record with Rangers vs. Celtic isn't that good. Gotta beat Aberdeen and hope Motherwell do us a favour. All the normal screenshots are below, including one of my new contract with Rangers. My original deal was expiring in June so the board offered talks which led me to signing a new contract until 2061. No intentions of leaving.

2058 - May:
The final month. Could I guide Rangers to the 2057–58 league title or would Celtic snatch it away from us, just like last season?

I could! Ladbrokes Premiership champions! In the end, it looked plain-sailing but it didn't feel like that in real time. On the penultimate day, we faced Aberdeen (A) while Celtic played Motherwell (A). If we won and Celtic failed to win, we'd become trophy winners with a match to spare. We did our job by winning 1–2, Nicolae Vlad and Ian Quinn netting. As we were 0–2 up, Celtic were shockingly down two goals against Motherwell. However, by full-time they dramatically clawed it back to win 2–3 and take the title race to the final day. It was to be an incredibly tense finale, an Old Firm derby with Celtic who had to beat us.

I was not confident, but the players came through and secured a 0–2 win; Quinn and Asger Møller goals. So, that meant we secured Rangers' 60th Premiership title at Celtic Park - of all places. What a day for the supporters! We won the league by five points thanks to that victory. Buzzing! UEFA Champions League football secured for the next season, a first in my Rangers tenure. Looking forward to that. All the awards are below, including two awards for me. A couple of records broken too, including a new highest points tally (83) and highest number of wins (25). Squad stats etc. are also there.

Note: I actually missed one award for the below tally. I won the Manager of the Year award way back in 2017 with Albirex Niigata (S) but didn't know, I think the game didn't tell me because I had left before it was officially awarded. I only knew now as I got the achievement for five MOTY awards following one I just got this season.

2058 - July and August:
2058–59 begins as we, Rangers, look to retain our Ladbrokes Premiership title which we officially won at Celtic Park last campaign.

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/i3NpVAr.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/8XQhvuX.png

Due to upcoming UEFA Champions League qualifiers, only two friendlies were scheduled - those were versus Red Bull Salzburg and AS Monaco (both at Ibrox Stadium). Salzburg beat us 1–2, but we beat Monaco 2–1. Ian Quinn, Stefan Eisen and Yeray Mesa all netted goals. A week later, our Champions League run got underway with the first of two legs with Danske Bank Premiership outfit Cliftonville. Nicolae Vlad scored first prior to a Mesa brace to give us an away win at Solitude, that's despite an early scare as the Northern Irish team actually took a 4th-minute lead through club legend Niall McClurg. Leg two at Ibrox wasn't a contest, we dismantled them 6–1 - 9–2 on aggregate.

Next in qualifying, we got drawn with Malmö from Sweden. A team we played two seasons ago in our UEFA Europa League group. In the UEL, we got the better of them both times and history repeated itself here as we won the first leg at Ibrox 1–0 and the second leg in Scania 0–3 - Juan Manuel Bartolotta and Mesa getting two goals each across the two ties. Into the final play-off round! Before that, we had three domestic fixtures. On 10 August, we opened our Premiership defence away to Partick Thistle. It looked to be a miserable start as we found ourselves 3–0 down by 49mins, but it would eventually be an incredible win as we scored four goals in ten minutes to win 3–4! Insane scenes!

The next match came in the Betfred Cup second round, where we'd face Ladbrokes Championship outfit Livingston. It was a second straight 3–4 win, however this time it was a much calmer affair. With a rotated line-up, Sean Bain scored first before goals from Ian Quinn, Jordan Johnston and Nontas Panoulas put us 1–4 ahead - our hosts produced a late fight with three goals between 59mins and 91mins but the result wasn't in too much doubt. Into the quarter-finals of the League Cup, for the first time under my management after previous eliminations at the hands of Partick Thistle and Falkirk. The third of the previously mentioned matches was at home to Aberdeen, who we defeated 3–1.

In the final Champions league qualifying round, UEFA gave us a tie with Molde - Ole Gunnar Solskjær's former club from Norway's Eliteserien. A very good draw, avoided the likes of Red Bull Salzburg, Krasnodar and Dinamo Zagreb. Molde hosted leg one, which we ran away with to all but finish the tie early - Vlad, Allan Willox, Kenji Fujishima and Isaac Acheampong scored to secure a very dominant win. Prior to finishing the job in the second leg, we faced Heart of Midlothian and subsequently made it three wins from three in the Premiership after strikes from Eisen and Vlad. Leg two with Molde ended goalless, we had a man sent off early so I'll take that.

Undefeated start to the competitive season after nine victories from ten. We're joint top of the league table, Dundee United are marginally ahead due to goal difference though. In Europe, we've made the Champions League group stages and will meet Marseille, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Beşiktaş. Tricky group, but far from the worst we coulda got. In the Betfred Cup, we'll play Hibernian for a place in the semi-finals. While the William Hill Scottish Cup doesn't begin until 2059. Board expectations, squad statistics and awards are below.

Players coming from big clubs indeed. Anyfantis is a back-up option, played a little and looks good. Campion has yet to feature as he broke his leg eleven days after joining, has been out for two months and will regain out for another three - disastrous for the man who had previously been on loan with rivals Celtic. Gabriel left Bayern and had previous loan pedigree so I decided to snap him up, he's played a fair bit but is yet to show anything; currently on the bench.

OUTS (notable):
Kamer Gjoni (£1.6m, CM, Rostov)
Pedro Silva (Loan, GK, Arouca)
Martin Ritchie (£4.5m, FW, Fakel Voronezh)

Gjoni was a good back-up option but hardly featured, with the loan signings previously mentioned we didn't need him so decided to cash-in on him before his contract expired next summer. Silva is a promising young 'keeper, needs game time. Ritchie was out on loan in the Netherlands with Heracles last season, done very well for them but we didn't need him and his contract was also ending next year - ageing as well so perfect time to get the money for him. Other outgoings were youth.

2058 - September and October:
I entered September and October with Rangers in positive fashion after nine wins from our opening ten fixtures to start 2058–59. In these two months, our UEFA Champions League group stage campaign began as well as the continuation of the Betfred Cup and, of course, the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Following that one and only non-win in July and August against Molde on 27 August, we made it back-to-back draws as we opened September with a 1–1 tie with title rivals Dundee United. We followed that up with four consecutive victories. Newly-promoted Greenock Morton were defeated at Ibrox Stadium by a scoreline of three-one, Ian Quinn opened the scoring before Allan Willox and Nicolae Vlad got in on the act. Three days later, we got our Group C campaign underway in Europe with a home match against the Bundesliga's Borussia Mönchengladbach. It was the best possible beginning as we beat the Germans 2–1, Kenji Fujishima and Juan Manuel Bartolotta scored for us.

On the weekend following, the third straight win came over Ross County. It was an easy away day after strikes from Bartolotta (x2) and Quinn nailed the three points down (0–3). After progressing from the Betfred Cup second round for the first time in my Rangers tenure, we faced Hibernian in the quarter-finals. It was to be a pretty poor match from both sides, but it was us who advanced to the semi-finals after an own-goal from Hibs' Francisco Clailson. In the semis, we'd face St. Johnstone on 26 October. So, after this spell it was thirteen wins from fifteen to start the new season without losing. Great form, but it was guaranteed to end and soon did.

We went on a run of four defeats in five, out of nowhere. Bottom of the table Falkirk got a shock win at Ibrox, Aaron Rea scoring a late penalty. Then came a more expected result in the Champions League, Beşiktaş beat us by two goals at their 56,333-capacity Hakan Stadium (built in 2051). After that, Hibs reversed history and beat us 1–0 at their home on 5 October; the opposite result to our Betfred Cup meeting weeks prior. Three straight losses and an Old Firm derby on the horizon, I wasn't looking forward to that at all. Subsequently, I went more defensive than usual and I guess it paid off as we stopped the losing streak with a goalless draw away to Celtic. I gladly took that point.

We would lose again next time out, but that was at home in the Champions League to 2045 UCL winners and French champion in five of the last six seasons Marseille. Fabio Di Marzio scored an OG to give us a lead, but Marseille were far the better team and eventually turned it around to win 1–3. Fortunately, our fortunes have returned to a positive direction of late as we won October's final two encounters. Firstly, we beat St. Johnstone at Hampden Park 3–1 to secure a place in December's Betfred Cup final against rivals Celtic. We were very poor, had to rely on another own-goal but also goals from unlikely sources in misfiring striker Lukas Gabriel and inconsistent centre-back Pierluigi Gariboldi.

Gabriel would make it two in two for him days later to win us the points at home to Motherwell (1–0), is summer signing Gabriel finally stepping up to the plate? We'll see, two important goals here though! After a packed schedule, this is how we stand. 3rd in the Premiership, three points off leaders Celtic. 3rd in the Champions League, six points off runaway leaders Marseille; Beşiktaş still within reach (3pts), but I'm aiming for 3rd which would give us UEFA Europa League football; Gladbach in 4th have lost three for three. The William Hill Scottish Cup hasn't begun yet, but we are in the final of the Betfred Cup; looking forward to that on 1 December.

Awards and squad statistics below, as well as a transfer update. Just before the window shut, I signed Bjørn Larsen on a free transfer; most recently with Nordsjælland, he provides left-back cover for Ivan Bosnjak. Two departed, the most notable being back-up goalkeeper Dejan Antic who joined Ajax for £625k.

2058 - November and December:
As usual, the final two months of the year tend to bring critical football matches with Rangers. 2058 was no different, our Ladbrokes Premiership title race continued but we also faced the final three UEFA Champions League Group C encounters as well as the season's first showpiece occasion - the Betfred Cup final versus Celtic.

Fixtures:
https://i.imgur.com/iQ0clIV.png

Table:
https://i.imgur.com/wdNCiHw.png

Competitions:
https://i.imgur.com/YMLLfxu.png

First up were St. Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium, Yeray Mesa and Ian Quinn netted for a 2–1 win. Then we took a trip to the Orange Vélodrome in Bouches-du-Rhône to face Marseille, who demolished us just like on Matchday 3; they won 4–1. Our response was to beat Partick Thistle in the Premiership, substitute Stefan Eisen came on to score a late double to secure us three points. After, we went on a streak of three straight defeats. Aberdeen produced a stunning performance at the 2055 built Aberdeen Stadium to blow us away 3–0, that was the scoreline on 49mins. The following costly defeat came in Europe as Borussia Mönchengladbach beat us 1–0 in Germany.

Gladbach subsequently leapfrogged us into third place, dropping us to fourth meaning we had to win on the final day to even stand a chance of grabbing the UEFA Europa League spot (3rd). The third and final loss of the aforementioned streak was the most painful - a penalty shoot-out defeat in the Betfred Cup final to rivals Celtic. Admittedly I knew we would lose in the shoot-out due to my awful 'luck' with PSOs, but it was still a very frustrating experience. Fortunately, me and the players responded to see December and 2058 out with six wins in the next eight matches. The first of which came in stupendous fashion against Greenock Morton days later.

We beat Morton 4–5 at Cappielow Park. They took a two-goal lead in the first half prior to Quinn and Juan Manuel Bartolotta netted to bring it back to 2–2, but Morton then regained the lead to make it 3–2 before Bartolotta equalised again. Morton, the bottom side don't forget, then incredibly made it 4–3. It remained that way between 71mins and 80mins before Quinn got his second for 4–4. I assumed that was it but there was still one more goal and, thankfully, it was to us as Bartolotta completed his hat-trick to make it Morton 4–5 Rangers. Outrageous football match, I was indeed outraged for the majority but at least the boys turned it around to get the points.

That comeback gave us confidence ahead of a crucial encounter with top of the league Dundee United. Quinn was once again on the scoresheet along with Nicolae Vlad this time, their goals were enough for the win which sent us into first place. An expected Matchday 6 loss to Beşiktaş ended our Champions League campaign on 10 December, meaning we are eliminated. Back to the Premiership, we responded with victories over Falkirk and Ross County - Falkirk defeated 0–2, Ross County defeated 1–0 - three different scorers. On 21 December, we dropped points at home to Hibernian (2–2) but it could've been worse as we were 0–2 down. Strong fighting spirit shown yet again.

Fighting spirit along with grittiness too as we won the final two matches of the year by a scoreline of one goal to zero; making it three straight wins with that score. Bartolotta got both goals over Motherwell and Heart of Midlothian, the latter a penalty. Despite some dodgy form in November, we regained ourselves in December despite the cup heartbreak. As of 1 January 2059, we sit top of the Premiership table - four points clear of Dundee Utd with a game in hand, while Celtic are seven points off and we play them on New Year's Day so could be ten points clear soon - I doubt that though. Just the William Hill Scottish Cup left to play for outside the league, Hamilton Academical await in round four.
