MATCHDAY 15

Here I was expecting a Gladiatorial grudge match, instead turned out to be men versus boys. Didn't even need our strikers on form either, both wingers put in the shifts today; firstly with Karasev shepherding the ball through a sea of bodies during a messy goalmouth scramble and Kara turned provider for young prodigy Maiorov to completely kill the game. Three clear cut chances, four half chances, twice hit the woodwork, Shirak were completely overwhelmed and overpowered by us.

Fuming, this was an embarrassment. Minnows Shenghavit battled hard to win an unlikely point and it could have been a lot worse if it weren't for a late goal to spare our blushes. Despite our dominance, Shenghavit were playing for the counter attack and one hopeful ball undid us completely; backup keeper Kovalev came well out of his area, completely misjudged the ball and hit it straight at Vorobjov for an easy tap in. With our long standing unbeaten run under threat, it was a similar goalkeeping misjudgement which grabbed a late sweaty equaliser; Muradyan's long ball has met first by Koshoian's head that looped over the stranded keeper who was nowhere near it. A huge relief but such a bad result.

https://i.imgur.com/ECTFWbN.png?1

Even seeing this doesn't make me feel happy.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/rAxcZFW.png?1

The Shenghavit result put a dampener on what was a stellar month with some important wins over top sides. Koshoian with seven goals this month.

LEAGUE TABLE

https://i.imgur.com/JSZACft.png?1

The five point gap we built after beating Shirak is reduced to only three again so still all to play for. Big gap now to third so it's fair that we can rule anyone else out as challengers.

MARCH 2045 SCHEDULE

https://i.imgur.com/rMTFDmR.png?1

Escaping the brumal weather for numerous weeks before returning to footballing matters in March. Three games await; Ararat will probably be the only 'test', while Banants and Erebuni will fall into place quite easily...I hope.

TRANSFERS

IN

https://i.imgur.com/M6j0tH7.png?1

With not a huge amount to strengthen, we opted for just one buy during the winter transfer window - a defensive one.

https://i.imgur.com/c7nVpCd.png

Georges Mbognou - D(C) - unattached free agent

A tall and rather experienced Cameroonian international who'll no doubt be a key focus to aerial battles. Ox-like strength and bravery will make it a striker's nightmare to evade him. His technical game is okay but definitely not ball playing defender quality with 4 passing and 1 vision, might make his passes a little sporadic but I've faith in him to keep the number of goals down.

YOUTH INTAKE

https://i.imgur.com/DBIqNMV.png?1

The new fauna have gathered too. Two players may already be at a level for first team football, but the catch 22 is they may just not progress much further than a 4* player overall.

https://i.imgur.com/8KAYmKu.png

Karen Arzumanyan - AM(C) - youth intake

Not mind blowingly good but definitely has a good platform to improve. Technique and flair are top notch already, just needs to sharpen up on the rest of his abilities and could make it as a trequartista if he's lucky.

https://i.imgur.com/TCh78bi.png?1

Ortiz finally ready to be eligible for the Armenian squad. Might finally get a shot at international football.

MATCHDAY 17

Returned to the league with a close shave, nabbing three points from Ararat. The pendulum swung in every direction, starting with Avetisyan powering in after just nine minutes. Ararat were bossy and took the wind out of our sails completely with a half time lead; Hakobyan with a free kick and a glaring defensive error let in their top scorer Stepanov for 2-1. Fought fire with fire in the second half, countering a set piece and Hayk Koshoian continued where he left off with an acute finish and then took the lead with Karasev on the second attempt after a beautiful cross by Maiorov. The lead was short lived after giving away a penalty which a different Hakobyan sent Kovalev the wrong way but the drama didn't end there. Another counter attack set us on our way with Koshoian squaring to Ortiz for the eventual winner. Welcoming a new year of football in entertaining fashion.

MATCHDAY 18

https://i.imgur.com/XK8Fkxy.png?1

We have ourselves to blame, leaving the door ajar for Banants to fight back from two down. It was total dominance up to that point with silky passing movement setting up Ortiz with the first and Karasev with the second, already thinking job done. Hit the woodwork three times in total frustration in not closing the game out, which ultimately let to punishment. Rafael Ghazaryan was the saint who came off the bench to bag both Banants goals, one of which was a scorcher from long range as full time approached. Deflating, hope it doesn't lead to abnormalities in the league table.

MATCHDAY 19

https://i.imgur.com/phbplps.png?1

Didn't slow us down against Erebuni, Avetisyan stepping up to the plate after recent complaints about wanting a new deal. He proved his worth with two on the day as we let fly in the second half with Ortiz, Karasev and Tevosyan burying the bottom side. Four assists from our wingers who were excellent going forward. Erebuni pulled one back but immediately a red took them down a peg again. Never in doubt.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/R0Mh5pO.png?1

Another truckload of goals scored, but defensively we're looking brittle. The Banants game in particular was a warning shot to how we need to improve on that front. It was all about the midfield this month, all looking so dangerous bombing forward.

LEAGUE TABLE

https://i.imgur.com/XtLhkiS.png?1

With Shirak slipping up against Ararat, it widens the gap to six points as we look that bit more comfortable at the top. Surely, we've got this in the bag, especially how far we've come going unbeaten.

APRIL 2045 SCHEDULE

https://i.imgur.com/kQq3ghw.png?1

A lot busier next month with seven games, almost half of them against Ararat. The cup semi final legs take a slight backseat as we aim to get the league done and dusted. Smack bang in the middle is that face to face feud against Shirak, perhaps the only side to hand us admonitions in the run up. First up though, two away days at Alashkert and Gandzasar.

MATCHDAY 20

https://i.imgur.com/rKHe9qT.png?1

Cool, calm, collected, even with ten men. Teenager Maiorov continued to excel on the left wing with two more assists to his name, setting up Ortiz for the opener. Then came a conundrum, Avetisyan's leg breaker of a challenge had us outnumbered going into the second half, but it didn't halt us. Koshoian returned from a mini injury spell to slip in Sargis Barseghyan for number two and that man Maiorov crossed for Karasev after some horrendous goalkeeping laid it into his path. Coasting to the title by the looks of it.

https://i.imgur.com/8EeBC0m.png?1

Ortiz ruled out for the next game however.

MATCHDAY 21

https://i.imgur.com/MqRfVPj.png?1

Not pretty, but the result went our way. Both sides seemed afraid to open up and hindered the game's progression. It took for one key moment to get the decisive winner, yet again Maiorov commanding the left channel to set up a low cross which Koshoian rammed home to the delight of the away support. Mbognou's interceptions were so vital to keeping Gandzasar out.

ANKAKHUT'YAN GAVAT'

SEMI FINAL, FIRST LEG (HOME)

https://i.imgur.com/YGKXDwE.png?1

First half fiasco led to great entertainment, but from a professional point of view it was anything but. More carved than Boxing Day turkey from some eloquent footwork by Arsen Bdoyan whose shot was too powerful for Kovalev to keep out. Arthur Tevosyan was the preferred option up front and did not let me down, being in the right place at the right time for two goals in ten minutes to tighten grip on the tie. Poor marking handed Ararat a second away goal on the night; a ball slid into Stepanov for an easy finish to keep it firmly in the balance. Second half was a spectacular disappointment.

MATCHDAY 22

https://i.imgur.com/uChaJkL.png?1

28 league games unbeaten, finally brought to a dramatic end by our arch rivals Shirak. Despite an early birthday goal for Alberto Ortiz, Shirak always looked like scoring - Oleg Burkov wiped the smug looks off our face as half time approached. Second half and Shirak looked like a different animal, romping to the lead plus extending it in the space of seven minutes by Gajic and Karapetyan. Ortiz's efforts were admirable to fight back to 3-2 and were close to getting something but the black panthers were too sharp on the break and trapped us with Karapetyan blasting home in injury time to hand us our first defeat of the season. All good things must come to an end.

https://i.imgur.com/djDTLNE.png?1

And way to kick a man when he's down. Huge blow to our top scorer who'll struggle to be fit again for the rest of the season. Disaster.

MATCHDAY 23

https://i.imgur.com/4E1Hu7e.png?1

We'll survive without the Kosh if we play like this week in week out. Incinerated Shenghavit for five with Ortiz taking the responsibilities up front. Ortiz opened the floor and assisted two for the returning Avetisyan to be in cruise control. Another masterpiece free kick by Filic made it four and to top it all off Sargis Barseghyan got involved in the goal soirée. All too easy.
https://i.imgur.com/jkqweZW.png?1http://i.imgur.com/ZiZpv0k.png?1

ANKAKHUT'YAN GAVAT'

SEMI FINAL, SECOND LEG (AWAY)

https://i.imgur.com/GY0OM2M.png?1

Drama at the Ararat Stadium, sweating to an extra time win to reach the cup final. Their two away goal advantage left us in an sensitive position and needed to wipe it out ASAP. Ortiz and Karasev did just that, Alberto dribbling with finesse past two defender while Evgeny had the fortune of the post guiding his low shot in away from the keeper. Didn't take long for Ararat to respond with a top corner finish by Adamyan getting their foot in the door. Reminiscent of the first leg, Ararat carved us open to remove our two goal lead - Hairlahovic the culprit which the keeper really should've done better with. So extra time it went and fatigue tested the home side hard, two players hobbled off to leave them with nine men and of course we exploited it. Maiorov yet again made the magic happen, squaring to both Tevosyan and Ortiz for the final curtain closer. Onwards to another cup final!

https://i.imgur.com/9T26vSE.png?1

Ortiz took one for the team but sadly is ruled out for the league return.

https://i.imgur.com/ALtg3Fe.png?1

Honestly, this guy could assist in brain surgery he's that good.

FINAL DRAW

https://i.imgur.com/KZwXFE1.png?1

BARDZRAGUYN KHUMB

MATCHDAY 24

https://i.imgur.com/plwoHRj.png?1

Not as close from the meeting three days prior, then again Ararat were plagued with key injuries. Went tactical avant-garde in a 4-4-1-1 system in Ortiz's absence to leave Tevosyan leading the line ahead of Avetisyan, which worked a treat. Mind, it took time to eventually break them down but Avetisyan made a statement with a darting run on the back of Tevosyan's through ball for a relieving breakthrough. Although Avetisyan missed a similar opportunity moments later, Tevosyan wrapped up the points with a strong header from Maiorov's cross. Milosevic's late goal didn't faze us and put us one step closer to another trophy engraving.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/ll57dK8.png?1

The number of games eventually caught up with us in April, succumbing to our first defeat but wasn't all bad. Four league wins plus claiming a cup final date, just a shame Koshoian had an unfortunate injury to miss the run in. Ortiz did very well as leading striker but without doubt Alexandr Maiorov was a cut above with nine assists this month. NINE!

LEAGUE TABLE

https://i.imgur.com/b4KhZHf.png?1

Shirak were hoping we'd falter after the 4-2 defeat but it only made us stronger and fate caught up with Shirak by losing to Alashkert to open up a sturdy eight point lead with only four games to go. Might as well hand us the title now.

MAY 2045 SCHEDULE

https://i.imgur.com/Simw9OG.png?1

The Ankakhut'yan Gavat' final sets the scene for the final run in. Banants, Erebuni, Alashkert, Gandzasar - all very winnable. To throw eight points from here would be blasphemous.

FINAL

Second piece of silverware on the line, will we become Armenian cup champions for the fifth time in six years?

https://i.imgur.com/Fr3yE3E.png?1
https://i.imgur.com/D9E5ix2.png?1

Yes, but holy bejaysus was this a terrible game. I sh*t you not, the goal was the only highlight of the game and thankfully went our way to the heartbreak of the Gandzasar support. From a corner, the ball fell to Avetisyan who had Ivan Maric propped as a human shield to deflect it into the net for an own goal. Feel sorry for the bears, not that they lost the game but having to sit through 90 minutes of this trash.

MATCHDAY 25

https://i.imgur.com/rv4IXcm.png?1

Pfft. Banants had to rain on the parade as a win would have sealed the title, but no the wait goes on. Former friend Olivier Kabura laid in the first arrow while Martirosyan and Muradyan had us struggling for air in one way traffic. A mini resurgence was almost on the cards when the midfield dynamic duo of Filic and Brosz had Banants against the ropes. The juggernaut approach of course never pays off in FM, such as a red card for right back Hovhannisyan left us in a lurch while a rocket from Gevorg Sarkisyan finished us off. You win this round, but we'll still have our fingers wrapped around the handles of the Հայաստանի Բարձրագույն Խումբ trophy.

https://i.imgur.com/wlOdqHg.png?1

Thankfully another of my former sides actually cooperated in this mission, submitting to us with a whimper. Krzysztof Brosz and Alberto Ortiz worked in tandem with one another in the first half, finishing each other's moves for 2-0 comfort at the break. No fear in losing the lead, Erebuni only tested our keeper once all game and Ortiz made a mark on their back line with a third to officially chisel our name on the prize for the 27th time. The Phoenixes rise again! CHAMPIONS!

https://i.imgur.com/eQ3bE38.png?1

Mark my words, this guy is going places. Tore the league a new ARSE, and by ARSE I mean Assists Record Smashed Easily.

MATCHDAY 27

https://i.imgur.com/S1khCNP.png?1

Took the foot off the pedal a bit and still won with relative simplicity. Ortiz was the centre of attention again, helping himself to the first from yet another Maiorov cross while also assisting for Avetisyan who broke into double figures for goals this season. Scoreline flattered Alashkert in truth, they were barely holding on for two.

https://i.imgur.com/zrme5GO.png?1

BARDZRAGUYN KHUMB

MATCHDAY 28

https://i.imgur.com/miy9HTu.png?1

That's all folks. Ended the season in a professional manner to run away with the league in the end. Ortiz clocked off the season with his 21st goal to break the deafening silence in a boring dead rubber game. Gandzasar thought they'd grab something from the game with Habrun's late sweaty finish but much like the cup final, they fell flat on their face in the dying embers. Nothing warmed my heart more than seeing the Kosh return from injury and return to the scoresheet with virtually the last kick of the game to end with one final hurrah. 29 goals, 50 between him and Ortiz. That's what you call a striking partnership.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/aEhHfkX.png?1

Finished the season strong, ignoring a minor hiccup at home to Banants to seal a glorious treble. Ortiz banging them in again with Brosz, Avetisyan and Filic all getting involved too. And to think I paid £2.5k for the dude, outrageously good business.

FINAL LEAGUE TABLE

https://i.imgur.com/ZKVgFJT.png?1
https://i.imgur.com/6arDHMn.png?1

Romped to success, finishing eleven clear in the end ahead of our nemeses Shirak after they had a bumpy end of season run in. Ararat and Gandzasar edged into the Europa League, while matters at the other end took a dramatic turn on the final day as Shenghavit beat Banants on the final day to survive and dump Erebuni out of the top flight for the first time in four seasons. Fun all round!

A year to remember for the teenage wonder Alexandr Maiorov, game in game out he played blinders and won the hearts of the Pyunik faithful to make him both younger player of the season and the overall player of the season for the 44/45 season, pipping the free scoring Koshoian to the post. Krzysztof Brosz also made the mentions as his screamer against Banants was voted goal of the season, thoroughly deserved in my opinion. Last but not least, signing of the season had to be Ortiz; two and a half Gs repaid tenfold maybe even hundredfold. Banant's must be absolutely steaming that they let him go that cheap.

https://streamable.com/fzzke

https://i.imgur.com/D6BaCdH.png?1

It was the year of the Kosh, a sensational tally of 29 goals which would have been more if it weren't for some injuries keeping him out, also earned 6 man of the match awards in the process. Maiorov was on another level too, a constant in the team and practically undroppable with a 7.54 average rating and counted an outstanding 21 assists for the season (Mesut who?). Sargis Barseghyan was an important instrument in the middle in the CM role, almost faultless with the passing movement with his 89% completion. Ayvazyan got stuck in with 8 yellows while 3 players received a red this season; Hovhannisyan, Filic and Avetisyan.

https://i.imgur.com/TbJ1IZe.png?1

Smashing records all over the board this guy is, let's hope I maintain him or perhaps I can poach him at my next club down the line, doubtful as it may be.

https://i.imgur.com/WXpKrYL.png?1

A lush 20% turnover increase came into the club, leaving us in a really healthy financial state with just over £2m.

Last bit of news was our goalkeeper got a callup to the Armenian squad at long last. Hopefully can cement his place as the nation's number one.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW

https://i.imgur.com/5npRTAZ.png?1

Honestly nothing happened during preseason as I look to leave after our European trials end. Straight into the second qualifying draw against the Montenegrin champions Budućnost who from experience aren't the easiest side in the world. First leg at our place, then the reverse at their citadel.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND, FIRST LEG (HOME)

https://i.imgur.com/J8ZymH4.png?1

Pleasantly surprised, stocked up our acorns to hold a solid lead into the second leg. The visitors couldn't get a word in edgeways while we tormented their fragile channels with two class wingers doing business. It was more our set piece plays that carved them; Karasev took free kick duties elegantly for the first while a corner was shunted home by mighty Kosh to get our tails well up. Slightly spread, Budućnost found an opening which Kalicanin grasped with both hands for a cheap away goal. We ran riot in the second half, Maiorov danced his way past two, crossed in to Ortiz who squared it back to Kosh for a second, then continued in his ways to easily pass in a splendid hat-trick. A fifth was almost on the cards too but Karasev was denied by the bar. Well in for the 3QR draw.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND, SECOND LEG (AWAY)

https://i.imgur.com/oErqXSN.png?1

So very nearly threw it all away with complete capitulation in the last ten minutes for a sorry defeat. Needn't have mattered as our front two grabbed one each to have us laughing into the dressing room at half time. Things turned quickly with Ayvazyan's second yellow to have us a man down for forty minutes. It became a free for all as the Montenegrin garrison mounted an unlikely comeback started off with Kalicanin on the scoresheet again. Three goals in the last ten minutes had us seriously sweating with some schoolboy defensive mistakes, but the lead was too great to be overturned.

THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW

https://i.imgur.com/RhIp1sK.png?1

A sterner test with APOEL Nicosia coming to town. Probably the best we could have hoped for as it was either Maccabi Tel-Aviv or Legia Warsaw in the rest of our seed pool.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND, FIRST LEG (HOME)

https://i.imgur.com/WbpSVfp.png?1

Whooooooa, we're halfway there. APOEL were tame and we took the game to them in flamboyant fashion. The counter attack was our best friend and thanks to their left back conceding the ball too easily, Ortiz ran with it and a string of passes later it wound up back at his feet to drive it home before the break. The Cypriot champs came out of their shells in the second half, with their travelling support thinking they had equalised only for them to realise it ended up in the side netting. Andreasyan untested. Travelling to Nicosia knowing a result will advance us one step closer to the CL group stages.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND, SECOND LEG (AWAY)

https://i.imgur.com/InIOXsk.png?1

Was just too good to be true. Circle back to when I said Andreasyan was untested in the first leg? He sure as hell was tested here and failed miserably. Had three glorious opportunities in the first half, two clearances off the line in the same moment and things turned from there. Cristian Dauwalder (who is Argentinian born which is odd) had Andreasyan chasing shadows to beat him for a 50/50 ball and nudge APOEL in front. We collapsed like a house of cards in the second half with the other half of the striker pairing José Pedro burying two before Dauwalder completed the hammering. Hayk Koshoian grabbed a souvenir goal to take a little of the sting out. Second year in a row at the same hurdle we fall flat on our faces in the second leg.

But fear not, there's still the Europa League!

LMAO, never mind. At least we won't clock as many air miles this time.

Rounding these results up between European games as I cba. Low scoring affairs in each, only picking up slender wins over Banants and Ararat while we sloppily drew with Alashkert.

For what it's worth, it was a bloody good result. The only downside is Gala's three away goals. Going forward we were troublesome, Hayk Koshoian erupting the home crowd before they were silenced with an equaliser just a few minutes later. The Turks thought we'd back down but instead retook the lead with Avetisyan in a classic counter attack. In the same manner it didn't last, leaving gaps for their corner which Wanderson smashed home. Gala woke up and smelled the coffee to leave us pinned back, allowing Berkay Güler's second goal to kill the game. Furthermore, Muradyan's red card roadblocked any chance of a result. Uphill task in the second leg for sure.

PLAYOFF, SECOND LEG (AWAY)

Moderately upset, we had a golden opportunity to fight for this game and instead let Gala walk all over us in the second leg. The incident in question was a penalty to garner a vital away goal in the tie but Ortiz was denied by keeper Joaquín Diez, concluding a very even first half. We were a shadow of ourselves after the restart, three set pieces unravelled us completely. Two free kicks - one by Carmona and another by Antonío, sandwiched in between a bullet header from a corner by Onur Kaplan left us black and blue by the final whistle and end a somewhat valiant CL/EL campaign...but still missing out on a group stage.

Which is where I called it a day in Armenia, never to return. It's been a blast, but your league system is truly awful. What does fate have in store for me next?

Good times in Armenia - Looking forward to the next league and update
@b0nb0n - Thank you my man, only one place to check for that.

Nation: Estonia
Media Prediction (Odds): 4th/10 (6-1)
Current Position: 6th
Expectations: None set, just do better than the last bloke.
Pros: A few familiar faces. Not too far off European places. Benchmark to a new nation. Willing to agree some demands.
Cons: Small squad with a few key injuries. Only four games left, three against top sides. Leaking money out the wazoo. No other clubs available at this moment.

A risky decision, do I take the red pill for a change?
