MATCHDAY 9

And with the weekday drama, it disrupted us from sealing a ninth straight win this season at the Hiiu Stadium. Kalju were a tough lock to pick, Smirnov was denied superbly by Edgars Tukris before bizarrely finding the net, unluckily hitting the back of Tukris via the crossbar. One goal wasn't enough and a former friend came to spoil the party, ex-Stumbras striker Adrian Burcă was left in a pocket of space at the near post to which Bastig could do nothing to keep it out. Burcă could have so easily made it worse with a one on one, thankfully ballooning it into the stands. For all our pressure, it didn't measure up to a win.

MATCHDAY 10

Kevin Tamm criticised my team talk vis-à-vis this game, but I did feel something missing notwithstanding the 2-0 scoreline. Tarvis rotated with Smirnov and had a goal that practically fell into his lap from four yards out, rebounding off the goalkeeper after a close range save from McParland. Kõiv may still be missing but didn't stop Flórez feeding off the wingbacks, Mihhailov's lovely weighted pass found the Colombian after ghosting seamlessly past a static TK defence. A third loomed but Sinilaid headed wide from centimetres out. Good performance, but not great.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/KjXjs6K.png?1

You can hardly call us a one man team - seven different goalscorers in another impressive month for Infonet. Smirnov fitting right at home, but for how long? Flórez likewise.

LEAGUE TABLE

https://i.imgur.com/aGg4iub.png?1

Levadia had a meltdown this month, widening the lead to a crazy eleven points only ten games in. Sillamäe Kalev perhaps surprisingly sit second with Flora and Tammeka not far off. Ours to lose?

MAY 2047 SCHEDULE

One fundamental error can turn three points into one as we found out here. Put the pressure on but nothing clear cut was coming our way, that was until the 67th minute penalty which Smirnov finished with venom. Conor McParland usually trustworthy but today he cost us by missing a header resulting in a breakaway goal for Somali striker Arid Muhumud. Didn't bring the usual heat so perhaps the draw is justified, but disappointing result IMO.

Poor game, poor result. Both sides did come with a key opportunity each way but both struggled to find the target. The only real talking point of the game was Rain Naggel's red card, but despite the man advantage it was a tragic day in front of goal.

MATCHDAY 13

https://i.imgur.com/sZrQM1R.png?1

Deary me, what has happened to Levadia? We were a totally different side to the Paide game, it could have have been a rugby scoreline here (already a low scoring one). Jair Flórez and Albert Kübar in the attacking midfield pulled all the strings, Albert grabbed the second after Flórez put it on a plate for Smirnov only two minutes in. Juska headed in the third from a corner, Butkus f'd up royally for the fourth and teenage debutant Madis Suurpere made sure he wouldn't forget his time in the sun with a tap in from a Kübar cross. Visitors were grim and we totally outplayed them. Easily the performance of the season so far.

Call the police because we've been robbed. Ill-disciplined game on the verge of getting rowdy, not least the moment in question. McParland clearly was shoved by one if not two Flora defenders, the ref turned a blind eye - blind being the appropriate word. All bark and no bite apart from one chance which Smirnov dragged wide late in the game, but yeah I'm sure this'll cost us down the line. Thirteen yellows, now that's what I call a slugfest.

MATCHDAY 15

https://i.imgur.com/luO3BoI.png?1

For feck's sake, another draw?! Rookie goalkeeper Sten Põldsaar made an impressive debut with a clean sheet but looked far the busier keeper. The game went box to box with Pärnu looking seriously dangerous on the break. For all the huffing and puffing, nothing got past either guardian. Could've so easily lost this so perhaps a point is worth it.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/VhvmJMq.png?1

Picture tells a thousand words, far too many draws. Obviously the Levadia win was incredible but these were matches we should've perhaps taken more from. Hard to pinpoint who shone in consistency this month.

https://i.imgur.com/MIStaja.png?1

I swear the refs just hate us. The incident in question looked rather subjective but consensus pointed it as a penalty. It didn't excuse our nightmare attacking with only 3 shots on target from 19. What made it even worse is that Tammeka were subtracted a player for over a half and yet still couldn't break the deadlock. Both Smirnov and Altosar were denied by the post and a heroic clearance off the line by Davit Lagvilava prevented us from comfortably winning.

MATCHDAY 17

https://i.imgur.com/Sy1Tmuc.png?1

Back to normality with a rather cosy 2-0 victory over Tulevik. Didn't control possession very well, but on the counter we were precise - leading into the first goal as a long banana pass from Kõiv to Simonas Urbonas to tap home. The Lithuanian certainly struck while the iron was hot, doubling his tally early into the second half; Rene Sabanov did the unselfish thing to tee up Urbonas when he could have gone for it himself. Juska could have damaged the second from bottom club's goal difference but his header came back off the post. Much better.

https://i.imgur.com/Ls5ZrE2.png?1

You can slate our attacking play at times, but our defence have been nothing short of excellent. Only three goals conceded in seventeen games. Impenetrable.

MATCHDAY 18

https://i.imgur.com/qbn00Ta.png?1

You know it's bad when you have a 17 year old newcomer to bail you out of a defeat. Our strikers were sluggish and Kalju looked up for the game. Aleksandr Kesküla gave Martin Bastig a rude awakening after a horrible mixup when trying to reach for the corner and it ended up being a free header into an empty net. With a serious lack of midfielders due to either injury, suspension or fatigue - it was Vladimir Lutsokert's time to shine. Replacing Kevin Tamm in the 52nd minute, he only needed five minutes to make an impact - with help from a deflection to take it past Tukris. Kaarel Tarvis hit the post and almost lost it at the other end but honours even as we continue to drop points.

MATCHDAY 19

https://i.imgur.com/Bxw1GiF.png?1

Kalju revisited but we went one better this time round. Two belters from outside of the area from Kübar and Urbonas set the game up very nicely for us in the first half. Took our eye off the ball in the second half with a well choreographed free kick that made it onto the dome of Alexandr Mikhailov to unsettle us. Anxiety grew when goalscorer Urbonas was dismissed for a second yellow in the final ten minutes but we stuck out to grab three welcome points.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/KpHrzCF.png?1

Goals dried up a bit this month, but Simonas Urbonas has turned up with three to preserve our unbeaten streak. Defensively solid as usual, but Smirnov...where are you?!

JULY 2047 SCHEDULE

https://i.imgur.com/5xuZgtf.png?1

A tiring month awaits as we bounce straight into the away leg in Georgia in the EL. Tulevik are a side I can rotate against in between the two ties. Then follows Tammeka, Pärnu and the six point clash against Flora. Lemons conclude a zesty July.

FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND, FIRST LEG (AWAY)

https://i.imgur.com/qEabEUB.png?1

A five hour flight to Tsitelsopeli was resultworthy, nabbing an away goal to take back to our place. For all our chances, only a deflected effort beat goalkeeper Irakli Machavariani courtesy of Jair Flórez which pinged off the backside of a defender. Martin Henn should have doubled it but his header from a set piece crashed off the crossbar. Job almost done.

MATCHDAY 20

https://i.imgur.com/ptUq8GZ.png?1

Didn't even need to be at our best to overpower Tulevik. Both goals stemmed from Karl Altosar set pieces; a freekick dropped by their keeper to allow Smirnov an easy second bite while Conor McParland headed home from a corner midway through the second half. We received some pretty troubling news after the final whistle but enjoyed the win nonetheless.

https://i.imgur.com/zangCgX.png?1

And this was it. In the form of his life currently and now faces long term injury. Huge loss.

https://i.imgur.com/zM2l0Ns.png?1

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND, SECOND LEG (HOME)

https://i.imgur.com/jeAu7zD.png?1

Job done, but not without predicaments. Without warning Chikhura eliminated our away goal advantage thanks to a torrid error by Mihhailov to give away the ball cheaply for Razmadze to finish it off in the end. Nerves settled when we were awarded a penalty which Smirnov just about converted to nudge us ahead on aggregate. The Georgians however bossed the first half and defensive errors were unusually frequent, Bastig needed a fingertip save at one stage to avoid self destructing all our good work. Alas the rhythm settled in the second, blocking out further breaks and a break of our own helped seal the deal with sub Kaarel Tarvis on target for a 3-1 aggregate win. Edgy performance.

Returning to the league with the scrappiest of 1-0 wins. Albert Kübar keeping Flórez's presence warm with the only goal early on from a Sander Kõiv trademark cross. Tammeka finished the first half with a sending off of Kvirkvelia to evaporate the rest of the game to nothing.

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND, FIRST LEG (AWAY)

https://i.imgur.com/RzlHX6A.png?1

Travelling south towards the edge of the Adriatic sea to fall to an unlucky defeat that we gave a good account in. A strong strike by Niko Sharbini made the difference and although we didn't create many noteworthy chances, we did have some goalscoring threat in us. Albert Kübar did bulge the net, except it was the side of the net. Back to Tallinn with work to do.

MEISTRILIIGA

MATCHDAY 22

https://i.imgur.com/EHkDQE9.png?1

Think we've a new bogey side. Pärnu came into this game staggering towards the relegation places but played like a side challenging us for top spot. Albert Kübar has really come to life in absence of Flórez and delivered an early netbuster for the lead. Bastig saved brilliantly from Sadovoi but couldn't do anything about an Indrek Koogas header to restore parity. The home side looked more likely to score next and when two quick yellows handed an early bath for Petrauskas, it was all hands on deck. Held on but could've used three points to push us one step closer to the title.

UEFA EUROPA LEAGUE

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND, SECOND LEG (HOME)

https://i.imgur.com/LH454MY.png?1

Had to get our priorities straight ahead of a crunch game against Flora coming up, resting key players to succumb to an uninspiring defeat. Three first half goals buried us 4-0 on aggregate and even though we had the majority of shots, none looked to cause the Croatians any trouble. Can't say I was too popular with the fans afterwards, but needs must.

MATCHDAY 23

https://i.imgur.com/5Cx5J4Z.png?1

A game wrapped in drama, it had everything including ending our 26 league game unbeaten streak. Tõnu Kovtunovits perhaps against the run of play helped Flora to the lead after some brilliant build up play by their striker Vanaveski, but that was only the tip of the iceberg. Not 30 seconds after restarting, a two foot lunge by McParland put us at a serious disadvantage heading into half time. Kept the pressure on until a penalty was awarded to the visitors, Martin Bastig to the rescue to save from Freidgeimas to maintain it at 1-0. Anatoly Smirnov I thought earned us a point with an 82nd minute equaliser but used his hand to divert the ball in so was chalked off. Last roll of the dice was two up top, Tarvis coming in and spurned a one on one - dragging the ball agonisingly wide. Amazing game, unfortunate result. Could be a big swing in the table.
https://i.imgur.com/jkqweZW.png?1http://i.imgur.com/ZiZpv0k.png?1

EESTI KARIKAS

FIRST ROUND

https://i.imgur.com/kZz9jkb.png?1

https://i.imgur.com/riLsDe7.png?1

A sweet result against a sour Lemons team. Rene Sabanov; usually a useless excuse for a striker but looked like Lionel Messi out there in tandem with Simonas Urbonas - the pair combining for all five first half goals and ending Sabanov's 33 game goal drought (yes, you heard that right). Mario Rõivasepp returned to action after injury with the sixth, however a preventable goal back for the minnows took some of the gloss off the result. Dare I say "easy peasy lemon squeezy"?

SECOND ROUND DRAW

https://i.imgur.com/Zv75D4i.png?1

Another non league outfit of MC Tallinn await us in the second round.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/TbenUyU.png?1

Taking a rather downward spiral lately as the Europa League syndrome has gradually withered our results pattern. The Flora defeat could be so costly plus with injuries left, right and centre, it might make for a tough end to the season. Kübar stood out really well this month, however the goals are drying up for Smirnov.

LEAGUE TABLE

https://i.imgur.com/VISJ6SS.png?1

What could have been a 16 point lead is now only 10, at least our goal difference is in a category of it's own. A long way clear of Levadia in third.

AUGUST 2047 SCHEDULE

https://i.imgur.com/LtVCQmS.png?1

Starting with Paide away before another big clash with Levadia, aiming to repeat the earlier 5-0. The two Kalevs follow before ending the month away at Kalju.

Mario Rõivasepp's miss in the last ten minutes summarises perfectly how unlucky we were. gg.

MATCHDAY 25

https://i.imgur.com/9XsZtRy.png?1

Confidence is taking a serious hit, thankfully our defence were clutch in a serious face off with Levadia. Martin Bastig was the hero of the hour, not only making some key saves after falling to nine men but also saving a penalty by Eduard Afonin to finish the game all square. Juska and Tamm saw red, Tamm I'm livid about because his was for dissent. On another day we'd have easily lost this.

https://i.imgur.com/hGZOkuK.png?1

So we go 22 games before losing in this league season and now all of a sudden a rough patch is allowing journalists to take a pop at me. It's like Connah's Quay all over again.

Bottling it. Sillamäe Kalev started a striker who hadn't scored all season, quelle surpise he's revelled in a brace against us including a 25 yard screamer. Four games now without scoring and I'm questioning if either Smirnov and Tarvis have left their spines in the dressing room before heading out. Didn't create a sniff of a proper chance.

MATCHDAY 27

https://i.imgur.com/Y6tIiud.png?1

Barely a wry smile, this was the minimum expectation at home to Tallinna Kalev. Smirnov finally quenched his drought after only 56 seconds, long ball over the top by Kõiv and awful judgement by the TK goalkeeper contributed massively. Sharp counter attack at the beginning of the second half had the game done and dusted with a calm and composed finish by Rõivasepp at the back stick. Bastig did have to be at full stretch to deny Igor Prokudin at the opposite end but we'll happily take a W for a change.

https://i.imgur.com/QxpdftE.png?1

Defensively we've been superb, 15 clean sheets by Bastig - and he missed the first three games through injury don't forget!

MEISTRILIIGA

MATCHDAY 28

https://i.imgur.com/7aAxO0u.png?1

Smirnov back to his optimum level. Rickety first half was greeted with a late onslaught to come from behind for a valuable win. We've leaked so many goals from crosses lately, guess where Alexandr Mikhailov's opener came from? Took a 30 yard piledriver to pull level, Vazinski squeezed the trigger. Despite a wonderful clearance off the line from a corner, the ball looped it's way back to Pavel Filder to restore Kalju's lead. Into the last fifteen minutes where Smirnov came to life; risked Kübar as a sub from his recent injury to assist Smirnov for the equaliser, five minutes later the game turned on it's head as the Russian lurked in the area to finish off Simonas Urbonas' cross, taking it all.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://i.imgur.com/3JpuxWM.png?1

Can't be happy with this month, but we're turning a curve with back to back wins. Glad Smirnov is raking in goals and assists again, let's hope he'll push us closer to the crown next month.

LEAGUE TABLE

Eight games left, the gap truncated to just six points. Flora and even Levadia are in hot form so the paranoia will gnaw at us.

SEPTEMBER 2047 SCHEDULE

Greeted with a two week international break should recuperate some weary or recovering players for a more spacious month, starting in the Eesti Karikas second round game. Tulevik you can bet your house on, Tammeka not so much and Pärnu (based on previous meetings) completely unpredictable.

SECOND ROUND

https://i.imgur.com/mdazwrS.png?1

Left it late to push aside M.C. Tallinn to book a third round spot. Jaanus Vazinski came close in the first half but saw his effort rebound off the post. We always looked in control and deservedly took the lead through Urbonas with a low curling shot with eight minutes left to avoid extra time. Had some rust to shake off hence why I'm not overly concerned.

MATCHDAY 29

https://i.imgur.com/Funjoh8.png?1

Tulevik heading for the exit in the Meistriliiga, fighting a lost battle and taking us a step further to glory. Simonas Urbonas seems to be on everyone's lips with a burst of form and continued it with heading in the first goal and setting up Smirnov for a top corner sweep to close it out. Tulevik missed a sitter to try grab something from this, but we brushed them away easily.

YOUTH INTAKE

Promising youth intake again, yet another goalkeeper looks to be the cream of the crop.

https://i.imgur.com/wVEc3p2.png

Rene Rohtla - GK - youth intake

Six foot zero isn't majorly tall for a goalkeeper but with his reflexes at 14 and agility at 11 there's definitely hope for this teenager. On par with Põldsaar from last year's youth intake. Nice to know at least one of them with carry the torch when Bastig retires.

MEISTRILIIGA

MATCHDAY 30

https://i.imgur.com/I0urV3v.png?1

Back to league matters on a day of snowshowers where it didn't leave us stuck in the mud against Tammeka. The home side set the early pace and missed two clear one on ones before duly being punished for their mistakes. Anatoly Smirnov teamed up with Urbonas to slam in the opener while his second came from the penalty spot in an action packed first half. Second didn't live up to it, but Urbonas had a goal ruled out for a foul on their goalkeeper. Getting closer lads.

Once upon a time there was a Montenegrin by the name of Milko Filic, playing under my surveillance at Pyunik and of course Infonet last season. He now steps into his managerial debut with his Pärnu side to duel against the man who taught him in recent years.

MATCHDAY 31

Stick to playing Milko, your side got mauled. The day belonged to Anatoly Smirnov again with a devastating hattrick, including a sublime dribbling solo goal for the second on a day he could have racked up half a dozen. Seven clear cut chances, including one that Smirnov set up the fourth and final goal for the returning Jair Flórez. Definite payback for our recent hiccups against these boys.

Nothing better than a scary, intimidating Russian on your side to tear the league a new one.

Oh, Milko. You're right though, we were lucky not to get double figures.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

Much more like it! Six wins in a row in all competitions now in a month that belonged to Smirnov and Urbonas. Caused absolute havoc in the forward areas.

LEAGUE TABLE

Benefits us greatly for the final five games, an eleven point lead over Levadia who are seriously recovering after their awful opening half of the season. Flora faltering massively with two defeats in their last three. Ours to lose.

OCTOBER 2047 SCHEDULE

Couldn't have asked for a harder month, smh. Flora, Paide and Levadia. One win should be enough.

It's great to see this career is still going strong @DNZY even though I've not commented as much as I should lately. It looks like you're going to win the title, good job.
