I need your help lads. Take me out my comfort zone and fuck with my FM mind.

I need a suggestion where to start. I want to build a team from the bottom up like a few of other guys are doing on here. Something completely new so I'm putting it down to you! I have a few criteria where I want to start.
- A nation with good youth prospects
- Not a very poor nation

Also I'm using the default database (with Gibraltar). And a list of leagues to go along with it.

I'll be a former sunday league footballer who only speaks English.

If you want to do it properly, go somewhere to completely build from the bottom, find somewhere with a poor nation and build your own youth prospects. Since my sacking at Montrose I'm looking for a new place, similar to this challenge, I've looked around Sweden, Turkey or Northern Ireland at the moment!

Thanks for the advice Dan.

I'm having a look the now, Belgium caught my eye as did Denmark. Never managed in either before so I don't really know what to expect. Dabbled in the Republic of Ireland before but never really made a proper go of it.

With the leagues I've loaded to look around, I have Denmark and Belgium too, they also caught my eye!

The obvious one is always Portugal, this season they have dramatically changed there 3rd tier structure so its even more of a challenge to take teams up. If you are looking to be more unique then i would say Holland, Belguim or any eastern european teams would be a shout

Albacete in Spain? Had a couple of seasons in La Liga before being relegated to the Liga Adelante and have been relegated again since, although I think IRL they won their league this year they're in the 3rd tier of Spanish football in game.

That may not be obscure enough though, Croatia is a good shout, along with Belgium or somewhere like Chile?

I was thinking about Boavista but as you said Portugal has been done.

Croatia is a good shout, always get good regens coming though from there. As for Spain, I've managed there a few times and promotion is quite easy at the beginning. Tonight I'll load up a game with all the leagues suggested and have a proper look.

Belgium would be my shout,

Also worth looking at Holland, Sweden and Norway.

I had an enjoyable game starting as Sunday League experience and unemployed when I got offered the chance with a second tier Swiss side, could be worth looking there too. Best bet is to choose a few of these countries and start unemployed then let FM choose your path i reckon.

So I picked the leagues.

Currently scouring through the leagues looking for the imperfect fit, suggestions welcome.

I had a look through there, most of them are too high in terms of reputation. I'm considering Boavista and Racing, less so racing. Don't fancy Spain.

Are you looking for an impossible challenge? If so, Barry Town is for you.

The Welsh team? I don't like custom databases, too many bugs in most just sticking with the default.

I take it you've tried it. How did you fare?

One should not jest at the plight of Barry Town United. A scandalous affair. Once the one team in Wales that might have progressed in terms of European football was ruined by Fashanau and ripped apart by Lovering.

A team that once beat the might of Porto at home with a young Ricardo Carvalho starting. Sadly it was not to be as Deco in Porto tore Barry apart.

There is one on SI by CymruAmBythXV and it's pretty damn excellent. I would highly recommend it.

Hahaha no, I've been tempted though.

Sorry I wasn't "laughing" at the plight of Barry Town as it's a sad situation and I actually remember watching their 3-1 win over Porto at Jenner Park, I'd love to see them back at the top of the WPL but don't think it'll ever happen, or at least not for a long time.

So I picked NK Pomorac. Based in Kostrena, a port city in Croatia, the name translates into English as ‘mariner’ or ‘seaman’. They’re predicted to finish 10th in the 12 team 2. HNL, so I’m not expecting miracles.

First few seasons are going to be a struggle. My plan will be to build a solid base, get the finances up to scratch. Only then can I build a squad good enough for promotion.

The club is skint. I’m already £700 p/w over the £5.1k p/w wage budget and the projected balance for the end of the season is -£600k.

If someone can link me to this database I think I could have finally found a new story!

Good luck with this Sean

Squads not the most versatile, I can see me playing some funky formations through the season.

Plan for the season. Struggle and try not to cry. Eventually reaching mid-table mediocracy. I'll get tore into this over the weekend at some point, hopefully have an update up after 3 months or something.

Got a bit carried away last night and smashed through the first three months.

Assistant took over the friendlies while I tried to sort things out behind the scenes. As you could see from the last post we were pretty weak on the right hand side (and still are). I brought in a new right back, Zoran Arsenic, on loan with the parent club paying his wages. The only right winger I have has been injured so I've been forced to play a messed up 442 (although it seems to be working).

Great start to the season so far. Much better than expected, hopefully it sets the tone for the season and we finish in the top half. Don't want to go for promotion yet. Half my players are on loan and will be leaving at the end of the season so I need a few seasons to build a decent squad.

Squads fucked.

No right sided players fit, only one defender fit. This next match should be fun.

Went with a left sided 2-3-3-2 and lost to a single (own) goal against top of the table can't complain. Just need to take each match as it comes constantly changing the formation.

All but one player will leave in the summer. I have absolutely no money to offer anyone new contracts. The club only brings in about £500 a month through gate receipts.

We only have about 180 fans at a match, we need more fans and a decent cup run for anything to work out. This is going to be tough!

Mate, check out a player called Caleta-Car (16 year-old Croatian in Sweden) - would be a great addition to your new project if you can get him. Check my story for his screenies. Good luck with this though!

Had a look at that Caleta-Car, he wants over £1.5k p/w so he's out of my league at the minute.

Things didn't go as well as the start of the season leading up to the break but we did have a lot of tough fixtures. The big disappointment was throwing away a 2-0 and being put out the cup by a non-league team.

But all-in-all we are just 2 points off 3rd place, although I'd be more than happy with a top half finish.
