I've already gone two seasons in (sorry!), but life in the Faroe Islands is very comfortable and have already sealed the Løgmanssteypið (or the Faroese Cup) last year beating AB (FRO) 3-1.

As for the league, 2014 we finished just outside the European places in 5th. Could we go better in 2015?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ezEml9fp7HhMY8k3M3CHC2QPqvEGdgtJmb0FwwPT.png

You're damn right we did, though losing to HB 6-1 with three games remaining it could have been so much sweeter.

Sooooooooo, 2016 eh? Well five games in, started well with three wins from three but...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Zp5ch6gyxHzUGUkxCgiFvdYrkG59Z6f9G7L0hgdF.png

Poor defeats to Vikingur Gota & FC Suðuroy have left us in a bit of a slump.

But hey, the cup is also up for grabs and we will contest the quarter final with KÍ in our next game. Can we hold on to it for a second consecutive season?

What business have I done? Well, not a whole lot to be perfectly honest. Simply because I really don't need to.

April 2014 - June 2014

After a somewhat bipolar kind of start, we've settled into our rhythm and have been unbeaten in the league since those two defeats. Though we managed to blow a 3-1 lead against Vikingur Gøta.

Effo-deildin League Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MQd9ZG4T46UFd7ueQnpKwiFj9v8o3Kx9M4tErYnC.png

Eight games unbeaten, but have a cluster of matches coming up so team fitness could be an issue.

Effo-deildin League Table:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HXoMWrwBd35c0waollMNQ7r4I6AyxBJ8nr8TDC9X.png

EB/Streymur are in rampant form so far this season and could be another two horse race, but it's a tight league and with fifteen games remaining things could go pear shaped for any team.

Løgmanssteypið:

Retaining the title looks a simple task, but still need to run the game out safely in the second leg against AB (FRO), whom we beat in the final last season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/f3k3n1BerpYHMh48v5gVkLvqN8JTXsVRWb30TnY5.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/FrevrzVNmYf9jUuDMH2mIP2mVcFCPmBxi2uSwOD6.png

We could face either Skála or shock semi finalists MB of 2. Deild (third tier), who beat HB on penalties in the last round. Either of them would be a very beatable opponent should we advance, and calmly fancy my chances.

Europa League

Oh, did I mention we've found out our opponents in the Europa League First Qualifying Round? Who did we get? WHO DID WE GET?

Our man Klaemint Olsen is still banging in the goals, but I think it's all down to the craftiness of Frederiksberg and Gunnar Zachariasen who have both been outstanding playmakers. Sadly our Brazilian, Tegão will be retiring at the end of the season but hopefully will see out the remainder of his career on a high and will be in for the injured Højgaard who found a real spell of form before getting injured. Also injured is one of our brightest centre backs Bertholdsen, only 17 and has bags of potential but will be out for 6 weeks.

Next update will be when we reach the end of September 2016.

Can I continue the good form? Time will tell. Until next time.

Europa League - First Qualifying Round (vs. Ferencváros)

First Leg (Budapest):

http://i.imgur.com/aRpXyfI.png

Very impressive result away from home. No real chances of note but the Huns certainly could have threatened if they hit the target more. Can we hold them on our own turf (well, the national side's turf)? All to play for up in the Isles.

Second Leg (Tórshavn):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3KB7McfyKQhtY5DTFT4LOwyXJmA5RKyyFSNbtUgb.png

So. Very. Nearly. NO. Much better second leg for us going up front, but same for them too. Hit the post on two occasions, one from Frederiksberg and one from K. Olsen. A superb free kick put us in front from Freddy. If we had held onto the lead going into the break, we could have been in the right mind to finish it, but a good breakaway and Böde tucks in the equaliser on the very brink of half-time. And the knife that stabbed us in the heart was a well struck free from Stopira and it looked hopeless for us. But what's this? Klaement Olsen lobs the keeper with fifteen minutes left?! A lifeline!

But Tegão brings us down to ten men and no energy left to salvage anything.

Cruel fate, why has thou forsaken me?

Still, super performance from the lads over the two legs.

Bottom line..did we qualify?

No. Away goals rule, you cruel bastard.

July 2014 - August 2014

Been a crazy two months, highs, lows and some banana-skins which we've unfortunately tripped up on.

Effo-deildin League Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nDt5IsCiUVYyZMVetZeGV4R5qT6pEOXUJwBonMBF.png

So since a vital 3-1 away at HB it looked like were the in-form team, but after that, things got..well..very messy.

We went to Vikingur with Europa League on our minds for the match against Ferencváros on the Thursday. 3-1 lead going into the last twenty minutes and it seemed like another victory in the bag, but we choked it with goals in the 72nd and 88th minutes and had to settle for a very deflating draw. To make matters worse, the Europa League hangover cost us another three points, this time at the hands of newly-promoted Skála. A very poor performance and we deserved to lose it.

So getting dumped out at the first hurdle in Europe, it was time to end this rut we've been in and capped off a very disappointing week with a remarkable four goal turnaround against FC Suðuroy. All four goals courtesy of the goal machine Klæmint Andrasson Olsen!

With the wheels seeming to be back in motion, they became loose once again, losing to bitter rivals B36 on our own turf. It meant that EB/Streymur were rubbing their palms together in wake of our meeting with them. Before that, a vital 3-0 at KÍ to keep our heads in the title race. The battle of the top two went in favour of the black and blue army EB/Streymur, dealing us a colossal blow to our title hopes.

A team meeting had been called, the lads needed a lift. It was a now or never situation and we wouldn't settle for anything less than a win from our next three games. And we did just that! Convincing wins over ÍF, 07 Vestur and sweet revenge against Vikingur Gota was exactly the kind of form in which we could become champions.

But our last game of the month dealt us another shit hand as we failed to break down HB, though having six times as many shots on goal, the league champions held strong and frustrate us going into the last six games of the season.

So what does this mean for the league? Are we still in the running?

Effo-deildin League Table:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BmeSKGFceYjAURoPmLsQ5vgB7hPS9oU9tWYjYmV5.png

Yes, but it is a very big ask and we can now only rely on EB/Streymur's results. And we are due to play them on the final day of the season too! Can we make that extra push?!

Løgmanssteypið:

So....was a second consecutive Faroese cup victory on the horizon? Leading 4-1 from the first leg against AB (FRO), we looked in good shape for the second leg.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8wC2FmXHffPFf9icPNs2axObJsgQNol3Qq05wZwY.png

Never really in doubt, a slower paced second leg meant we could preserve our match fitness for the final.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kxOH3NmiMkinqiQYqg8xMlU43xpOeIjQUNxDkAwV.png

And we would contest the final against Skála, who saw off a very brave MB side on penalties.

Would we get our back to back cups?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uXQaZ9mbxz8q3HGCsSwjtmvc03KFqkVIhwYLavOo.png

VICTORY IS OURS ONCE AGAIN!

Okay, not the most convincing victory after letting a two goal lead slip. A cup final victory is a victory after all!

And yes we are into Europe once again next season because of it.

Team Stats:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/XAxY1u6x012oZaJPBbVsLesW6q9nprewLBGFn2eS.png

It really is ridiculous to think how we could have faired without Klæmint Andrasson Olsen, truly a goal machine. Ten more goals in the league, and he'll break his own goalscoring record. But the goals couldn't have been created without playmakers like Árni Frederiksberg, Andy Olsen and our inspired signing, Gunnar Zachariasen. The end is nigh for Anderson Tegão, but will hopefully see out his career in style as he returns from injury. Our one and only goalkeeper Kristian Joensen has made a number of key saves for us, and is the rock of our defence. Our defence has been quite leaky with substandard performances, especially from Einar Tróndargjógv and Jens Joensen. It seems that we needed to delve into the transfer window for a new additions.

Transfers (summer transfer window):

Jógvan Isaksen - D(RLC) - free transfer from Vikingur Gota

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mkeeDY1kMdlQyMvbzsSchpH7QIyoWhDIHupIaTh1.png

My director of football took care of this signing, an area we definitely needed more stability. Arguably my best defender in the last six games or so. Very solid with key tackles and key headers and has yet to let me down so far.

Stian Møllet - D/M(C), ST(C) - on loan from Lillestrøm

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/LXyWLpaJri0mLbPNktWbRuqIPFTYzA6sn1bBJhS9.png

Another freebie, this time from my parent club. Young, versatile and someone extra to patch up any dead wood. His teamwork is his standout attribute and has certainly been involved in the games he's featured in. Our central midfield has been a little bit rocky with below par games from Karl Løkin, so Stian gives a bit of a hand in that field.

So now we wait, with six games remaining including the big one to close curtain in the Effo-deildin against EB/Streymur. We came up short last season, and now we will go for the jugular.

In NSÍ we trust.

Oh. Wait. Hang on.

September 2016 - October 2016; The curtain closes on another Effo-deildin season.

If you may recall, I've been on a slippery slope and now fallen seven points adrift of the leaders EB/Streymur with six games remaining. Not impossible, but a big ask. But my lads have been under this kind of pressure before and I believe that we are up for a challenge. We want the league and cup double this year!

Effo-deildin League Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rVUILaIy1YCZ1FiptMaLqiotCiVAe2HVBW2qwSxN.png

Well, we've just showing that we're certainly up for the challenge. Five straight victories have put us right up there. Where you may ask? You'll have to wait and see.

Though we got the victories, most of them were extremely scrappy. Especially our 1-0 over FC Suðuroy. Nerves jangling all over the place with one eye on the EB/Streymur result. Klæmint Andrasson Olsen's goal on 24 minutes was enough to see us through, only just.

A home match against Skála might settle the nerves, in fact it proved an even more cagey encounter. Scrappy, with a hint of luck we escaped with a clean sheet. Karl Løkin and Andy Olsen got the goals in either half, but it was almost like pulling teeth to get them. We didn't escape unscratched, especially Karl Løkin, the dreaded damaged ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament for those who don't know). 9-11 months on the sidelines, brilliant.

It was a mystery how we only won our first game against KÍ at the seventh attempt, but since that victory back in early May we have won every match against them since. Including this comfy 3-0 win at home. Gunnar Zachariasen, Klæmint Andrasson Olsen and surprise goalscorer, our defender Jóhannus Joensen getting his first goal of the season. Not bad for the 17 year old. Oh, and news just in; EB/Streymur have lost against Vikingur Gota!

Our bitter rivals B36 were next and sweet revenge was on the menu and we managed it in front of their own fans too. No, Klæmint Andrasson Olsen did not score in this one but a brace each for Gunnar Zachariasen and Andy Olsen sealed a much needed fourth victory in succession.

ÍF are certainly a team that can taunt an opponent and are a team I fear playing against. Well, we've only lost once to them in eight they scraped out five draws. How this game managed to stay 0-0 at the break is beyond me, chances galore and mainly for ÍF. A very nervy start but our star keeper, Kristian Joensen was equal to them. EB/Streymur playing HB at home and at the break, the visitors are in front 1-0. That gave us a bit of fire in the bellies and low and behold the deadlock is broken from Leivur Højgaard with a wonderful strike in the 52nd minute! But ÍF certainly weren't going to lie down, few more chances for them met equal by crucial tackles and goal saving blocks, also the keeper to thank again. Ninety minutes are up and we await the final score from EB/Streymur's game. Final score: EB/Streymur 1-2 HB!

But what does this mean?!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/tHOtOm2JbTKx8eNcjK9OWL3u3atB937tfZleZLYP.png

Top of the table with one match left to play! But who do we have in our final game?!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wQGA8Dpchn050h6o7J4BCJyNwzzLdKYJuRr6Efmz.png

As long as we avoid defeat, we will be champions. But we haven't beaten them his season so far. The pressure is immense.

The Final Game:

Saturday has arrived. It all comes down to this. Two defeats on the bounce for the visitors, the pressure is all on them. Or is it? Nine games unbeaten for us, five straight wins, will number ten happen? Will we become champions for the first time since 2007?

The Line-ups:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/v52cIl5sOBx3ZRAx8tDHiUkvX6teAqKMyVEjBynu.png

Filip Djordjevic is the main man for EB/Streymur, prolific goalscorer but so is my man Klæmint Andrasson Olsen. Our tactic looks dangerous, but has gotten us to this stage.

The first half:

16 mins; Gunnar Zachariasen brings out a lucky save from Hans Jørgensen from an inswinging cross from the left byline and goes behind for a corner. Corner is cleared from Leif Niclasen. From the resulting clearance, ball comes out to Zachariasen again, but is brought down by Róaldur Jacobsen, the dirty bast.

17 mins; Freekick placed 25 yards from goal, who else to take it but Árni Frederiksberg. Curls it to the right. Brings out another save from Jørgensen onto the post. But comes back to an unmarked Klæmint Andrasson Olsen in acres of space just outside the six yard box! GOAL FOR NSÍ!!! 1-0! Klæmint Andrasson Olsen sealing his 27th goal of the league season! First blood to the home side!

31 mins; EB/Streymur on the attack, from the right wing, their captain Sølvi Vatnhamar plays in an exquisite pass to Leif Niclasen. Moves in on goal, GOAL FOR EB/STREYMUR!!! 1-1! Thumping strike from Niclasen. Left hand side around 10 yards out, cracks a shot which Joensen can do nothing but parry it into the goal. His first goal of the season too, typical.

36 mins; Niclasen again causing problems, once again from the left gets a shot in but blocked away by the defence for a corner. One corner becomes two and eventually scramble it away. Nerves are showing again.

HALF TIME:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/IiMGX5oeiqmqpWPEgN0WbXQS5DlqLZlCu8HwOOhc.png

Very evenly matched first half, both sides looking up for it.

The second half:

55 mins; Leif Niclasen moves up the left hand side. Delivers a flashing cross into the box. Bogi Løkin unmarked on the right. Strikes at goal! GOAL FOR EB/STREYMUR!!! 1-2! NSÍ go behind after a venomous finish from B. Løkin. EB/Streymur head to the top of the table!

60 mins; Double substitution for NSÍ. Andy Olsen replaces a disappointing Gunnar Zachariasen and in defence, a young 15 year old (yes a 15 year old), straight from the academy Bogi Mørkøre replaces Allan Bertholdsen. A risk or a masterplan?

62 mins; NSÍ hitting EB/Streymur on the counter. Leivur Højgaard with a pop outside the D! Jørgensen makes the save. NSÍ are losing their firepower.

74 mins; First change for EB/Streymur as young 15 year old Jákup Langaard replaces goalscorer Bogi Løkin.

79 mins; Last roll of the dice for NSÍ as Rói Zachariasen replaces injured Leivur Højgaard in attack. Stian Møller goes up front too. Do or die time.

81 mins; Tempers flare as Árni Frederiksberg gets a straight red for a two footed challenge on Leif Niclasen. Disastrous final day.

87 mins; Isaksen clears the ball for NSÍ, and a very weak clearance at that. Straight to Høgni Clementsen who plays in sub Hans Pauli Samuelsen. Kristian Joensen brilliantly closes him down for the save. Still alive, only just.

88 mins; GOAL FOR EB/STREYMUR!!! 1-3! All out attack has failed us as EB/Streymur hit us on the counter to notch a third. Heartbreak surrounds the fans.

90+3 mins; Corner whipped in by EB/Streymur. Nobody can clear. GOAL FOR EB/STREYMUR!!! 1-4! Marni Djurhuus ends a woeful end of season for us.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9hRBzekylBxHvNAnfXYoumxMVOA7a5lgQYDDGcCY.png

November 2016 - April 2017; New season, new ambitions.

Well, putting our hurt of last season behind us, it's time to dust ourselves off for the new 2017 season. Third time is hopefully going to be the charm and we won't settle for anything less than the title.

Transfers In (January 2017):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/v5x8jNUK9u3taPVrVtiDGeAgK0pvEhAlLFkYdgAc.png

Transfers Out (January 2017):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/iDLsu5IeaA2wJZ0UFtHrjE9Imaax6Zj9O5HD6Ek7.png

Okay, so you'll be wondering why Christian Holst has departed after just 3 days..well it's simply because our Director of Football is a useless tw*t. I had given him the role of Player/Under 18 Coach but Mr. Dan Djurhuus had other ideas and cancelled his contract simply because he was the highest earner. This is what we missed out on.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xr6KEaKuVtSUXE6cQYE8mf7LWQ7eJDsFvtaQtKHn.png

A bloody brilliant, experienced, versatile player with outstanding stats for a Faroese player. Distraught and angry at how the DoF handled this without giving me a proper explanation. But alas, that's just life.

Anyways, who did we actually sign?

Tórður Thomsen - GK - free transfer from B36.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MiLIJ44JknPXmhGEsc5UaTVmtuKKyeUsJPJ6ouuP.png

A very decent number two to Kristian Joensen, who has rejected contract negotiations lately. So if worst comes to the worst, we've got backup. Good goalkeeping attributes. And yes, it's a signing from one of main rivals too.

Hákun Edmundsson - D(C) - free transfer from B36.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Rc3M8BzswpJGjfHAj3mrNdX9ocsRiKg4jp4ESFB6.png

Yes, another B36 player. Decided to swoop at the opportunity since B36 got relegated last season. Okay, his attributes aren't great from a technical side but he's young, he's physical and provides more cover for us at the back.

Bogi Reinert Petersen - D/M(C) - free transfer from ÍF.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4l4DJvXOY3c2dNxxxSz39AxvAy2saNjzrqhQ4o5T.png

Adding more depth to our central midfield since Karl Løkin is still out injured and Stian Møller has returned to Lillestrøm. Again, attributes not the best apart from physical but I'm keen to just strengthen the team.

As for our outs, disappointed to see Andy Olsen leave but he wasn't keen to renew his contract, as was Høgni Zachariasen (who is now at FC Suðuroy). We also let one of our young players, Sjúrður Fagraberg out to 2.deildin side Giza/Hoyvik for the rest of the season.

Youth intake:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vs50HegzVc1nUubqTKmSK1qiqSsrfIw6ZIa9jfQv.png
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/bDCp1LKfNdxBCbG4CWXdoHLO4WlxP9G5ZtxNsTpM.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QqYRiIScxYz2hzIvgdlrTfRuYZX2mm3AhFuMaNzT.png

Pretty poor intake, the ones with half a star were terminated and only four made the cut. Bogi Mørkøre was by far our best player to come in, what a cracker! 19 in determination and 17 in teamwork, this lad is going to go far. He's only 15 and he's already jumped straight into the U21 Faroe Islands squad.

Pre-Season:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NyUKjQppYNGQxb8vg0t8brCLWnzuWwsdYjkLaUv2.png

Not the most ideal preparation for pre-season practice but came through without a defeat. Not that friendlies mean that much to me anyways.

Effo-deildin Results:

It certainly showed in our opening three fixtures that we may struggle to reach the top this season. Especially by the performance in our first game against KÍ. Poor was a bit of an understatement, having to come from behind twice courtesy of Klæmint Andrasson Olsen and to battle off heavy pressure towards the end. KÍ had more shots on target (10/21) that the shots on goal we had overall (9, 3 on target).

Our opening home match was the meeting of FC Suðuroy and this match was an improvement, but not overly so. Two defenders, Jens Joensen and new signing Hákun Edmundsson getting on the scoresheet as well as Leivur Højgaard. Could have been a demolition but three was enough to keep me satisfied.

A grudge match, facing against our now bitter league rivals EB/Streymur was next. They certainly were up for the game, taking a 2-0 lead within 18 minutes. K. Olsen provided a lifeline before the break to make it 2-1 at HT. Fair to say the hair-drier treatment was given in the dressing room and to positive effect too as we controlled the second half. The equaliser came on 57 minutes with Jens Joensen getting his second goal in two games. We peppered the EB/Streymur goal for the rest of the game and it was really frustrating to see so many squandered chances.

Decent run in of fixtures towards the end of May, but no game is necessarily an easy game in this league anymore so our team needs to be vigilant. Though I'm expecting wins against ÍF, AB (FRO) and B68 (local rivals).

Signing off on that note, looking for improvements in our hope to become third time lucky league winners.

April 2017 - June 2017; Dare to dream?

So after a blitz of games over the last 3 months, we now have a whole 35 days to chill and focus on our game plan. It's been a solid last three months, Karl Løkin has returned from injury after 9 months and Árni Frederiksberg after 7 weeks. Somehow, I've not seen as much passion from the team compared to last season, but we're happy and enjoying our current form. Here's why:

Effo-deildin Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/soyLOUONUTs4UFfFquaSJ2xRBxT1qufCZbHaGKel.png

We are now eleven games unbeaten in the league, although goodness knows how after a few close shaves and scrappy victories. But hey, why am I complaining?

I won't go into too much detail about each match, solid six straight victories but was gutted with the 2-2 draw with HB, considering we took a 2-0 lead only 3 minutes into the game!

Effo-deildin League Table:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xHb63EULHQ8NyYOn46mgrHwekztwUPEOt35KJ9p0.png

So far so good, not getting ahead of myself though, especially after last season. It puts us in a good, stable position and without our unbeaten run still strong, a lot of teams will be intimidated. One team, EB/Streymur will not and will surely seek out to break our hearts again and with them still unbeaten, it's a match I'm dreading to face. But I feel confident, not getting too cocky but I can sense that this might be our season to end our league trophy drought.

Løgmanssteypið:

So yeah, we've won it two years in a row. You must be thinking that we can easily nab it for a third time in a row, right?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cZtvrMJ1lm0Rz1OhjMKKkr2VcVaqVnERTQn3fDjh.png

Not quite. A slightly weakened team I had chosen to keep us fresh for the league, but alas my instincts were not successful. Poor performance overall and we got complacent to let Poul Ingason, a transfer target of ours, poach in the winner after 17 minutes. To tell you the truth? I'm not too upset. It means we are focused primarily on the league, and slightly on the Europa League too (just for prize money).

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/O8Q41NqXv3iDyIH5UUkPhx4APVKcceezKyCjV2X6.png

Not as bad as last year, a trip to Lithuania to face Zalgiris (a team I know absolutely nothing about). I see it as winnable but can't say it'll be easy by any stretch of the imagination.

As for the Second Qualifying Round?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/lVuimvWJGKNmsLmUj1vPsf6eaADbxUiUOuUeoHXx.png

Nope. That'll be a toughy.

Oh yeah, wait..

Delighted to have reached the centennial amount of games in charge, and celebrated it with a 3-2 win over ÍF. Good times, good times.

Forthcoming fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/skyRR1IVbmNfEUcvwRgXZFuLAk9WmXlcRowivOgM.png

Bit of a tricky set of fixtures, especially our next game to EB/Streymur. Albeit we're at home, we know exactly what could happen as we found out on our final game of the season last season. We will try not to slip. This could very well be our year, but we're patiently staying calm for the moment.

July 2017 - September 2017; We've hit a glacier.

These last two months have been one of the worst spells I've encountered as manager of NSÍ. Miserable, uninspiring, frustrating and infuriating are just some of the adjectives to describe our recent form. I've stormed out of many press conferences over my anguish and things need to change otherwise it might be time to seek glory elsewhere.

Here's how our last few games have gone:

Effo-deildin Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SvmpN1XG5YpwY9k2OO5snSYa2KX6U1hgKpgtEulQ.png

Things looked to be going extremely promising after we dispatched and ended EB/Streymur's unbeaten record by winning 3-1. But after that victory, things took a turn for the worst.

A stalemate against ÍF was a decent enough result considering we had played out in Lithuania for our first leg in the Europa League qualifier, playing a semi-full strength team to keep us fresh.

Our unbeaten run in the league came to an abrupt end after a shock defeat to Skála by 2-1. A very costly defeat and we edged the match throughout, but Uni Jacobsen's goal twelve minutes from the end left our team shellshocked. And that also carried forward to an incredibly infuriating 3-2 defeat to AB (FRO). Leading 2-0 at the break, we were in control and looking comfortable in possession but a fightback in the second half, we got complacent. The nail in the coffin was scored in the 93rd minute with a disgustingly good free-kick. Sheer domination turns to bitter humiliation.

But wait there's more!

Our slump continued into a below average 2-1 defeat to Vikingur Gøta. Sloppy in all departments and cracked the woodwork no less than three times, foam was starting to appear from the side of my mouth. Our nine point lead in the league is completely slashed.

We forgot how it felt to win a match, and only somehow beat our local rivals B68 by the slimmest of margin, coming from behind to do so. Our defence was a shambles and our attack couldn't hit a barn door. It feels like the pressure has gotten to our lads.

Two huge away matches followed with the meetings of league chasers HB & KÍ. Twice in front against HB, our defence couldn't hold it together and another cagey draw we had to succumb to. This was no different against the team hot on our heels, KÍ. We take the lead 83 minutes into the game, but wouldn't you know it, KÍ equalise at the other end before we could even contain and consolidate. The frustration is becoming unbearable.

Living off scraps at the moment, we might settle the nerves against the only side in the division yet to notch a victory, FC Suðuroy. Squandered chances left, right and centre, we laboured to a 1-0 victory. Simply not good enough.

Last but by no means least, we escaped with a lucky 1-1 draw with EB/Streymur in the league again. A debatable penalty helped us to get something out of a game we deserved nothing from.

Lots of fascinating figures struck me throughout the course of this slump, very surprising ones.

In our last nine league games:

- Top striker Klæmint Andrasson Olsen hasn't scored in over 900 minutes
- We've only scored 11 and haven't scored more than three goals in a game
- Our shots on target ratio is only 35% (110/39)
- Our conversion ration is 28% (39/11)
- We've hit the woodwork 10 times, averaging at least once per match
- Out of the goals we've scored, six of them have come from defenders and defensive midfielders and one of them being an own goal.
- We've only scored three goals from play, seven of them from set pieces (5 from corners, 1 penalty, 1 free kick).

Things have to change, but guess what?

Effo-deildin League Table:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rbTLXeao7RyD0bE0JpoZTUugTnwGio2DYzvltfC9.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/aROrBrHa4oiShuhTrPOnHULNjOKOC7378jIFiHSH.png

Amazingly, we're still top of the table. Lady luck has been on our side, but the league is now tighter than a virgin's vagina. Six teams, just six points apart with six games to go.

Yep, definitely illuminati involved in this.

Europa League First Qualifying Round:

Well, drawn against Lithuania's Zalgiris, we felt we could an upset as we made the 1930km trip to Kaunas for the first leg.

First Leg (Lithuania):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7inhlTNxFOayNQJqti4j8wCY3ks8FOYDTZYrLLul.png

Baffled, bamboozled how our second strength team overcame them. Two away goals in the bag too! Looks like a very hopeful chance of making it to the second round against Rosenberg!

Second Leg (Faroe Islands):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nCmupe7NDN9mlpGuFEvVLKEiDEyi2OnjsY8WZ2aF.png

Was just too good to be true. The lads gave it everything, even held them to extra time. We score in the 115th minute and think that's that, but this game took a cruel twist and Edgaras Cesnauskis drives a stake through our brave hearts and we are left stunned and deflated.

Away goals, you win again you evil bastard!

Forthcoming Fixtures:

This is going to be one hell of a rollercoaster finish. With our last six games, at the beginning of the season we would have thought these would be a walk in the park on paper. But now every game is crucial, it's like walking through an unguarded minefield. We've taken an almighty pummelling and it's hard to lift the faith again, but we're so very nearly there.

The very last game is always the hardest, especially against a team like HB.

I guess we just need to keep confident and pray that results will go against other teams.

Because if we finish second again, I may not be here for another season.

September 2017 - October 2017; Déjà vu - It all comes down to this.

I can help but feel we've been in this situation many times, and here we go again. Last game, last push, last chance for glory. Third time's the charm?

Effo-deildin Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1R46KSSxE3OyqakKjwqHg1tYxGj0stur56dLV2mL.png

The ship has steadied, grabbing four victories in five. Though these were nothing without a little extra pressure.

Klæmint Andrasson Olsen found his scoring boots once again as he bagged a hat-trick in our triumph over ÍF, which never looked in doubt as we certainly controlled the match from start to finish.

Next, we faced the team who ended our unbeaten streak; the dreaded Skála. Quite the ding dong battle and not one for the faint hearted as it could have gone either way. But we came from behind to lead 4-2 into the last five minutes until Skála pulled another back. The script is set out that Skála would probably get an equaliser, but only for a terrific save from Kristian Joensen, we held on for a vital three points.

Of course, every game is vital to us now. We took this mentality to face AB (FRO), but failed in our attempts. Klæmint Andrasson Olsen opened the scoring midway into the first half. But again, more squandered chances and sloppy defensive movement, we were punished by that pr*ck, Jákup á Borg.
Luckily for us, KÍ only managed a scoreless draw and we stay top of the table. Only just!

I hate facing off against Vikingur Gøta, because literally anything can happen. I was amazed how well we performed, notching a 4-1 victory thanks to two goals from Árni Frederiksberg, one from Bogi Reinert Petersen and Klæmint Andrasson Olsen set us to a vital victory. We are now two victories away from glory!

Then again, we had a two point cushion at this stage and a win over local rivals B68 will put us in pole position. Rivalries always bring inconveniences, as two players suffered rough injuries; our top attacking midfielder Ari Ólavsson Ellingsgaard out for up to two months with a dislocated shoulder and Hans Pauli Samuelsen on the left hand side of midfield with broken ribs now sits on the sidelines for 4 weeks. Nevertheless, we battled hard for a 2-0 victory with second choice keeper Tórður Thomsen pulling off some vital saves. The win sent the B68 boys down to 1.deild, so we'll take that nicely.

So, how does the table look going into the final game?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7gQZ0Mjg2vClo2KlYvfuEJ7vr099Vr0XxTUAyqFK.png

A win will assure us the title, a draw might be enough if KÍ don't win by over two goals. Even if they do win by two goals, our goals scored will see us through.

Final day of fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/RKRUUDX5tN3Q2IcaCXWcPZ1lQQu9FZrCo2wnRuPl.png

After two difficult matches they've given us, we now need AB (FRO) to do us any sort of favour by holding KÍ to a draw or something. Our team had a big tough challenge against the mighty HB. Nerves jangling, lacking of sleep and anticipation for glory were all on my mind. I hope I can get these lads the title they deserve.

NSÍ vs. HB - First Half

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9huUuHYCGflh89p5f7iVe58EFrI1RJWuClrmm90t.png

My heart is racing, just another 45 minutes on top should do it. Very impressed with the way we have played so far, despite going behind early on from Magnus Johannesson's goal. Karl Løkin inspires a wonderful equaliser and Klæmint Andrasson Olsen puts us ahead!

Half time at AB (FRO):

AB(FRO) 0-2 KÍ

Even a draw should be enough to win us the league if that score remains the same.

WE HAVE DONE IT! We have held firm, led the league since match day 4 and have triumphed to our first Effo-deildin title since 2007!

A lurch at the back gave HB the chance to equalise before the hour mark, but K. Olsen grabs his second and sets up Gunnar Zachariasen to make it 4-2 late in the game!

I am ecstatic, I am trembling with delight of my team and their outstanding performances throughout the course of this season. Twenty-three straight weeks at the summit of the league and even with hard times in the middle part of the season we stay triumphant! Runavík will be celebrating tonight!

KÍ won their match 2-0, so we still would have held on thanks to our superior goals scored figure.

Lots of great rewards for my players this season, including myself as coach of the year.
Klæmint Andrasson Olsen bags the golden boot for the third season running, but first time celebrating the Player of The Year award.
Also making it into the Team of the Year, including our solid goalkeeper Kristian Joensen and clinical winger Árni Frederiksberg.
Great to see young Leivur Højgaard snatching the Young Player of the Year award, only making his first Faroese cap recently too at under 21 level.

Oh, one more thing.

November 2017 - April 2018 - Retention or disaster?

Well it's been a while since my last update on my Nordic challenge, what with this FM15 beta and whatnot, but I can't leave aside this career. The hard work begins if we are to retain the title, which means strengthening the squad.

Season Transfers:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/d0NEjtYc9U9fcPh2gE0yLrwwFqICWo7EwZRxj9mA.png

Few new faces coming in, including two rival players from Vikingur Gøta.

Lots of dead wood going out, mostly youth who simply haven't made the cut. Bit disappointed to see Pætur Daum Jacobsen leave, but the time was ticking on his contract and decided not to renew. Suppose he's 35 after all.
As for Rói Zachariasen, he's young and wanted some game time, so I've lent him to FC Suðuroy for the season. Already receiving treatment for fractured ribs only a few games into the new season in 1.deild.

Transfers In:

Rógvi Joensen - M(C) - free transfer from Skála

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/A1Dl0c304li5EAhaBfAgEq5nUvQSP0BLJq9NAPf5.png

The central midfield area is one we needed to combat, somebody to partner Karl Løkin. Rógvi is a likely candidate and has been solid for us so far in the early stages. Plenty of good attributes to his name and can only get better from here on in.

Heðin Hansen - M(C)/M(R) - free transfer from Vikingur Gøta

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OJb92xx4nO9ygaLR9uEV3ITEO0FHbgqr0ljZNgb3.png

Our third choice midfielder, he'll probably get some appearances towards the second half of the season. For now, he'll be seen as a minor liability until disaster strikes.

Jógvan Andrias Nolsøe - ST(C)/M(R) - free transfer from ÍF

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/egM4r2Kq4TDpMmI2ycKWKdJNo6p8uOYmQvSiSNKm.png

Again, seen more as cover as strike force in case something were to happen to one of the Olsens. After all, he can fill two roles so I thought why not?

Dion Brynjolf Splidt - M(L)/AM(L)/ST(C) - free transfer from Vikingur Gøta

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QYHKYV9pZYI0d5X9mEMQTn4ZB4oAngQuP0a4IUUP.png

A player who caught my eye last year, versatile, technical and has a knack for goalscoring. Scored two against his former club as well, so definitely he's made good headway into the first team already. One I may play often on the left hand side.

Youth Intake (pick of them):

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nzLaVeo1XDsF0CT5nyKf3wwoqC4TyrPEzLGQvSmw.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VrzpAjoojoLhtdUcYW1M30vcdPPDDMpKV6zHXlHG.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4H9S318MDUeYMGM5WX835KDrUCtO45xLyI8h3oTr.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nsSrps4tFXu9lUNA4IMNnyKErUUQhqFq6hc6IhJ9.png

We certainly get some good defensive players, both Jákup Jorgensøn and Símun Djurhuus look fresh. Goalkeeper Árni Johanssen certainly doesn't look great on paper, but his rating may make him a decent 'keeper. Finally, Ari Joensen in midfield and attacking midfield looks solid. Certainly a good year for intake.

Pre-Season Friendlies:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/a6KDJEOTyIOZdGjK8sQkNBwKdEjmjQVMtMViGgIJ.png

Not entirely the best, as we played one Faroese lower division team and three top flight Norwegian clubs (obviously you'll be able to distinct between them). One win out of four, meh.

Effo-deildin Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uFf8vO0wdJjETOEr9I0tHwUvy8KoKP6ifNi1Rgar.png

Not too bad considering picking up three opening victories back to back, only to lose a stinker against our rivals B36. And the form declined into a lacklustre draw against the minnows of 07 Vestur. Not the ideal start to the league season.

Effo-deildin Table:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ewAe08fRY2EKwXpTsDmFiqro9GhIG3R8pchpu7cx.png

Early days, but well up there with the best. Could and should be top though taking those two poor results out of the equation.

Løgmanssteypið:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VctOiCgBSLdMBcVAC4XaJ6UYlw3LFAtNzO3YJ8PL.png

Bottled it against EB/Streymur in the second round, conceding in the 93rd minute after one of the worst passes I've seen from Kristian Joensen our goalkeeper, giving it straight to Mouritsen who taps it home from 15 yards out. Couldn't make up for it in the penalty shoot-out either. Best to drop him for a few.

Atlantic Cup:

Ah, this was a new experience for me as we face the Icelandic champions in a prestigious little duel for the Atlantic Cup. My opponents were Haukar. Anticipating a highly, nervy encounter.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Lg9UuumO0vZQI8R4fKf8VB9za4jox9K0FCjFuJXO.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/qphjoBZKPz9QXBTkqKvNCTR4J6G4SrrC5TqDQDt0.png

Well, I couldn't have been more wrong. We were completely dominant and the Icelandic champions didn't even pose a single threat.

Another trophy to add to the collection!

May 2018 - June 2018 - "Pendulum swings back and forth."

Certainly been a very topsy-turvy last few games and it has affected our place in the table ever so slightly. Our confidence has wobbled and morale was a little bit in the yellow/orange but three straight victories may have remedied the situation.

Effo-deildin Results:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9uBSuz7oEm8RjspnJYxlZfXpIpFSr2Gm8adVdXd9.png

We travelled to face KÍ at Djúpumýra, but it seemed our form didn't even turn up. Outplayed and out muscled to a very poor 2-0 defeat.
Back to home soil (or in this case astroturf) to face AB (FRO) winning out by 3-1, left a bit shaky after a red card to Jens Joensen and a penalty brought the game to 2-1 but Leiver Højgaard settled the score.
But next we faced a trio of away games, starting with a calamity against HB. Another abysmal performance and could take away no positives from it. A lot of work was still to be done to make sure we weren't slipping away.
It didn't get any easier with an away match against EB/Streymur, we were fifth at this moment so a defeat was not an option. We somehow surpassed them after an impressive display from the league leaders. Somehow, we came from 1-0 down to win out by 2-1 and held firm until the final whistle. Definitely a massive relief and some firepower to take to Skála.
Again, we fell behind but our response was blistering in the second half with a fabulous performance by our top playmaker Árni Frederiksberg to seal an impressive 4-1 victory.
Two wins became three and then four with victories over ÍF and Vikingur Gøta respectively. ÍF game never looked in doubt with ourselves dominating from start to finish. However, it took a while to break down the brave Vikings, only for a super sub Gunnar Zachariasen to plant an important winner in the 79th minute.
A month break now before we hit the ground running back into the league and the Champions League too.

Second and by no means comfortable judging by our positions. Up and down season so far and we'll need to maintain this form heading into the latter half of the season if we are to retain it.

Forthcoming fixtures:

Bit of a bumper two months heading to the end of August before the final stretch. Wedged between the Champions League is a huge home game to KÍ and I'm beginning to wonder if I should take it seriously after I received some interesting news.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/gcPh16N2EpVRh5eY2cBcBoZOqNNJaasu5VGYoKEp.png

Well, we are positioning well in the stature of the European hierarchy. But if you look below.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/pXMQjBHBer8YLGqDNevAZMxFepGrzjnVYLTT0PeF.png

Interesting! Since the league reputation has moved up six places and Faroe Islands' rise in European coefficients now means that we may bypass the first qualifying round. Also means more ching-ching too! $$$

And thus ends another entry in the diary of a small manager in a big pond filled with opportunity. Looking forward to these next two months and hopefully we can gain something out of the Champions League too. Onwards and upwards!
