Real Zaragoza

With roughly 700.000 inhabitants, Zaragoza is the largest city in the Aragon region of North-Eastern Spain. The city has existed since Roman times, but the football club, supposedly the 7th most supported in Spain, was founded in 1932.
They have never won the league but they won what is now the Europa League in 1964 and have a Cup Winners' Cup and a half dozen Copa del Rey's to their name. Prominent former players include Gustavo Poyet, Nayim, Ander Herrera and the Milito brothers.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ANm6NUzFN4m4nHZ0XmNfxOehfUP6WP7vZ8kybDeS.png

The facilities aren't great by any means, but they'll do.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TOo1JSitKUbCyLLH69QUCAAuYiWD0TJU15CEaVM7.png

Yes, you're reading that right, €77M in debt, almost four times the value of the club.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uwvs0HuLR5vFZOpwKDkRbqGkB2MobwHmL1Z505h1.png

The club has been a relatively stable mid-table club for the past 20 years, a 4th and a 6th place and the three relegations being the exceptions. The relegation in 2008, the season following the 6th place finish must have been particularly harsh and I'd imagine much of the debt stems from that year, not immediately bouncing back from the most recent relegation almost certainly worsened the situation.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6H5KfPnfq4ZO9bhhkEvXVt7TEW7hwZM0azIhi2u5.png

A more detailed look at the debt. Having most of it broken down by seasons makes it look manageable, but we will be in deep shit if we don't achieve promotion this season.

A look at the squad:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yA2YQIihUtuTRZTaMs8lt28QshpjyuuYhUe3XkQ9.png

A pretty decent group of players for the Segunda, finishing in a playoff position should be pretty realistic, but the automatic promotion places appear out of our reach.

Our key men:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zXuxkBodXoTA34gEypdvopTNVwCMcUaSoAJZg8I3.png

Our most important player, lacks explosive quickness but aside from that he possesses everything you want in a striker at this level. On an expiring contract with Atletico, it's hard to resist fantasising about making his loan transfer permanent at season's end.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1FUDXaTtd6gNyZZF4SiCCIZDcAAzGthqf1haQJak.png

Lacking in mobility but a great passer, hopefully he can take something of a Fabio Liverani role in my squad.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/qEzylDYE9prg4dpRH7ihdeJcdYz9ZbsuFkIal5tA.png

Quick and he's got a good cross, will be vital for us as I expect most of our attacks to come from the wing.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/oUykCgR5vF5FNzpnl25aYjCSzUuj3MoD1uvjeono.png

The only key player who's actually contracted to the club, a former youth international for Brazil with a hammer from distance, will play the deep-lying role next to Borja.

And finally, the gem of our club:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9hNCmNdYGxGP77gDndj0Dl8wHoda42RztIkfaUDW.png

A youth product with the potential to become a Champions League-level defender. A fairly typical Spanish centre back lacking in the physical side of the game but good with the ball at his feet. Really impressive mental attributes for a 17-year-old as well.

Jesús! He'll be a wonder for your squad if you choose to develop him. If not, he can command a lot of money on the market, to help pay off some of those debts in the long run.

That state loan is looking to screw you the most. Good luck with this!

Great start mate.

I have that Asamoah lad in my Auxerre team. Unfortunately he hasn't developed as much as I would have liked due to the fact that I have better players in his position but he's a great prospect no doubt about it.

Borja Bastón and Willian José have hit something of a dry spell, leading to much less impressive performances than we saw in the first 10.

League table:

Very pleased by our performance. To be in the top half is incredible and the win against Barcelona is looking like a feat for the ages given how they are destroying all opposition this season. Only need four wins in the second half to be sure of staying up and the boards ridiculous expectation of a midtable finish is looking achievable.

Transfers, January 2016:

Screenshots:

Initially signed on a future transfer, Dinamo Zagreb let me sign this young Bosnian immediately for €11k, which may end up looking like grand larceny in the future.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/rcBQgGfmOJRFyu3hzJrBX8Ef1f3LIQcVlODZVT7M.png

My most expensive signing yet, and still a big bargain. Really pleased to have signed him on such a long, cheap contract too. I think Misidjan might steal a few caps for Holland at his peak and he's definitely a valued asset on our wings.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xQIP4b9qWVspbE0KUWNL5lxApKnxtXn8cBJbls5t.png

Big striker with potential to become top class, only on loan at the moment but I really hope I can sign him permanently by the end of the season. Quality strikers don't come cheap, so I'll have to do my best to develop my own.

And just moments before the transfer window shut I found what may very well be our striker of the future:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WAhA2MGOXGv9EabgnJSjMBTNpuePtNUOGJlbmuqa.png

Like Amer Gojak he was initially signed on a future transfer and then signed immediately, Bursaspor elected to let him leave for €80k. Already a fine finisher and strong on both feet, a bit lacking in ball skills and not a particularly quick at this point but I am sure with some development he'll improve in those areas in due time. I see him rounding out into one of those strikers that aren't exceptional at any one thing, but very good at everything.

And the player in question:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mDqX1xTKPGFJ9UHSmnEWnsfSZUuphEwPk5z0aWt8.png

He might very well have a really high PA, but given how much he'd have to improve to get there I highly doubt he'll ever come close to reaching it. I really miss Lens and their incredible youth intake now.

And yes, Mesut Ünal is Enes father, he just happened to be a pretty decent head of youth development.
