Baggies Still Looking For Hodgson Replacement

West Bromwich Albion find themselves just over a month away from the start of the new season but as yet do not have a manager in place since Roy Hodgson departed to take charge of England. Though chairman Jeremy Peace claims that there is no reason to panic and that an announcement is imminent.

'We have a couple of managers on our radar and we are of course not into the state of panic that most have said we should be doing. We would have liked this all wrapped up sooner but it has not worked out that way, sometimes these things happen in football' Peace started.

'We are working hard to get this sorted out in a timely fashion and hopefully an announcement will be made in the next couple of days.'

Favourite for the job, Roberto Martinez has already come out and said that he would not take the job sighting his decision that he is still 'very happy at Wigan'. This is due to leave the door open for Alex Ferguson's son, Darren to take charge at the Midlands club.

Hodgson himself thinks that West Brom should be looking for experience and said, 'West Brom need to find a bigger name manager to take the job on, anything else would not work now. They are a bigger team than that of many give them credit for and it was an honour to manage there. I just hope they can find someone to meet their ambitions.'

Ferguson Not Interested In West Brom

Darren Ferguson has told BBC that he has no intention on going to West Brom. His decision comes days after original target Roberto Martinez also turned down the chance to manage at 'The Hawthorns'

'I am more than happy here at Peterborough, we are still new to Championship football and it would be foolish for me to jump up to the next level now, having not really proved myself at this level just yet.'

Ferguson has been approached by West Brom before but a deal to take him to the Midlands was rebuffed by chairman Darragh MacAnthony, wanting to keep his manager in the job at that time.

'People know of the interest before and much like the previous time, the timing for doing it is just not going to work for all parties. I have a task to keep Peterborough in this league and that is a tough one. Speculation to me moving does not help the matter and I would like it to end at that.

Speculation is now very much silent on the mangers post at West Brom, everybody unsure as to who exactly will be taking charge of the club.

Robinson Approach Accepted By MK Dons

http://i46.tinypic.com/30rpv07.jpg

An approach for Karl Robinson, the current MK Dons manager, has been accepted by the League One club as West Brom move quickly to try and sign the highly rated manager.

Robinson has had two seasons at the League One side, and have been in the play offs in both seasons, finishing 5th both times but sadly losing out both times in the semi final stage of the play offs.

He has gone on record himself as having wanted to further his career and a step up in class is definitely high on his agenda. Robinson has already got credentials at the top level coaching for both Liverpool and Blackburn, gaining invaluable experience at such a young age.

Pete Winkelman told us at the BBC 'I would never stand in Karl's way. We have spoken to him about the offer on the table and that it is up to him if he would like to speak to West Brom. He told us he would and he is on his way there now.'

'Of course we would be sad to see him leave but much like our players, if an offer comes in from a team higher in the league structure we will allow that person to leave, it is how we have always worked.'

Robinson Appointed West Brom Manger

West Bromwich Albion have finally got a manager in place at 'The Hawthorns' as MK Dons manager makes the switch to become Baggies manager.

Robinson was obviously delighted to be hired but the club and said, 'I am delighted to be here, there comes a time when you have to let sentiment go and do what is best for you. I have nothing but thanks to give MK Dons giving me a chance to become manager and stand by me through the good and bad times but I am delighted to be the West Brom manager now.'

'I will work hard here to ensure that we end up as high as we can in the league, looking at the players we have I would be a little disappointed not to finish in the mid table positions at the very least but we will work hard to make sure that this happens.'

'There are some fantastic players here and I will not rush into signings, I want to keep faith with those that I have and of course, if the signing would be right for the club we will make it, we will just not make it a high priority to make that happen.'

There is talk that West Brom have made a bid for Ajax defender Daley Blind, though when asked Robinson said, 'He is a great player but he will be in the Champions League this season. Would he give up that chance to join someone not in the competition? The answer is no, of course it is our job to gain a reputation to get these players to join us.'

Ajax have rejected a bid believed to be around the £3m mark for their defender Daley Blind. Robinson has told us at the BBC there will not be a second bid made.

'Our valuations for the player are so far apart. He is not worth what they want for him and sadly we can't afford to go any higher.' Robinson immediately sparked many questions with regards to the financial state of the club but he put the rumours to rest.

'The club is one of the best run teams in the League, we just won't spend above our needs, there is no need to. The chairman has a great way of doing things and I appreciate that. The fans appreciate it also, they have no reason to worry that the club may be going under one day.'

'We have other players in mind but we won't be in any rush to go out and get there, I have been here a couple of days and the players are doing fantastic, we couldn't be any more pleased with everything that they are doing.'

Brunt Impressed With Robinson

West Brom captain, Chris Brunt, has spoken of pleasant surprise that new manager Karl Robinson has sparked in just a couple of short days as manager.

'We were not really sure what to expect of him', started Brunt. 'Of course we knew he was young and ambitious but he has really put us through or paces in the first couple of days of him being here.'

'There is always an element of what will the new guy be like and perhaps we are all upping our game and will do so to make sure that when the first whistle goes for the season we are a part of that first 11.'

Brunt of course should feel safe to a place knowing that he is club captain though admits that nobody has a guaranteed position now.

'Karl has made it clear that if you don't perform then you do not play, it is as simple as that. I think that is a good thing, it can only make is work harder to know that our positions are not safe in the team.'

'We want to go as high as we can in the league, we are not on one of the bigger budgets compared to most but we are still here and that is a bonus. Karl has told us there is no reason we can't be kicking around the European spots and that is something that we will aim for, though of course safety is the paramount importance for us.'

West Brom have today completed a double transfer, seeing Chris Wood leave the club to join Huddersfield Town and Charlie Austin comes the other way, joining The Baggies from Burnley.

Burnley were understandably reluctant to let hot shot Austin leave the club but a £3.7m fee has enabled the striker to move and test himself at the very top level. Austin was understandably delighted to seal the deal.

'It has been in the pipeline for a couple of days now, the two clubs couldn't agree a fee for me but I was never going to pass up the chance to move once the deal had been agreed.' Austin becomes the first signing for the new boss at The Hawthorns and he too was delighted to get the deal done.

'Charlie is an immense talent and one that adds a lot to the squad. He is sensible enough to know that he will have to wait his turn to get into the team but we will push him on to make him an even better player than he already is now. You don't score 16 goals in the Championship like he did last term without having something about you, so I am pleased to have him on board.'

http://i47.tinypic.com/4togn9.jpg

Chris Wood has also left the club today in a busy day of dealing, taking the chance presented to leave the club and join newly promoted Huddersfield Town. Wood told us, 'I asked the gaffer to let me move, I have not had as much football as I would like at West Brom but I thank them for everything that they have done for me.'

'I met with Huddersfield and was happy to drop down a level and make a name for myself. It is definitely with a heavy heart but sometimes you just have to do what is best for your career.'

Fortune and Jara make it three out in two days, with Robinson promising that more with leave in the very near future.

'We have to cut down the squad a little.' Started the Robinson, 'I have taken the concious effort to release the players that I know will not feature in my plans and will only be bit part players. We have to allow the players the chance to play first team football and that is what I am doing.'

Fortune was first out the door, going back to his native France and joining Monaco in a deal worth £2,1m. 'I am delighted to be going home and I have been promised first team football and of course that is what I want to be doing. I thank West Brom for the chance to play in the Premier League however and will forever be greatful to them.'

Jara left for Nottingham Forest in a £2m deal. The key thing for Robinson is that is has allowed funds to be released giving them a chance to strengthen else where. 'We are understandably not going to spend above what we have.'

'The club have worked hard to be in this strong financial position and I am not going to come in and ruin that. I am looking for young, hard working players that will add something to us going forward.'

Reid Suffers Leg Break

Steven Reid has suffered a leg break just a day into the USA training camp that West Brom have travelled on, with Bolton having to pull out of a proposed transfer deal.

'We wanted to take Steven with us and he wanted to come to the States also.' Said Robinson, 'Though now we are looking at it as a bit of a mistake because the lad will be out for some time.'

Reid was rushed straight to the nearest medical facility, where he was diagnosed with a broken leg. He was devastated with the outcome missing out on his chance to move and gain first team football.

'We feel more than responsible but it is just one of those things that happen in football, some would call it sods law. Especially for the older players it is harder to come back from things like this happening and it is devastating for all involved.' Finished Robinson.

Gordon Joins Baggies

Craig Gordon has joined West Brom on a free transfer, following a release from his former club Sunderland in the summer.

The signing has been taken well, with plenty of positive reaction from the fans of West Brom sighting the decision to sign him as the end of Boaz Myhill as replacement keeper who has had a very stunted Baggies career.

Gordon however was happy to come in and challenge for a place. 'I am obviously delighted to be able to come into another side in the Premier League and understand that there are already two fine goalkeepers here already.'

'I will fight for my place and I am just happy to have a club having had so many bad injuries in my time. I am delighted that West Brom have taken a chance on me and I feel better than I ever have done.'

Robinson hinted at the fact that there may be a chance for Myhill to move stating that there has been an offer made for him that has been accepted. 'The offer has come from a far superior team to ourselves. We as a club were shocked the offer even came in but that is not something we are going to complain about.'

'Boaz has flown home to speak to the club in question and Craig is on his way here to meet his new team mates.' Said Robinson

City Sign Myhill

Boaz Myhill has sparked up a hot topic of conversation after he has joined Manchester City from West Brom in one of the most bizarre transfers of the summer.

Myhill was happy with the move and thanked West Brom for not standing in his way. 'I am deligted to be joining the champions of England.' Said Myhill.

'It came as a shock to me when I was told that they were interested so I have no idea how you all feel. I met with the manager and he told me my game time will be limited and that he has bought me in as cover but I will wait for my chance to shine. Of course with Hart ahead of you that will never be easy.'

The transfer to shift him out of The Hawthorns was expected with Gordon signing for them just a couple of days ago but now Robinson has told us he expects to add more. 'As I said we will always be looking to add to the squad but only youngsters that will add something.'

'There is already a fantastic element of experience here and I don't want to disrupt that, what we will look to do now is add players around them that can grown and learn.'

Ryan Bennett has joined West Brom from Norwich, just months after making the move from Peterborough to The Canaries. The deal saw £1.8m change hands, as well as Billy Jones going the other way.

'We didn't want to lose Billy, but it was the only way to secure the deal for us in a positive manner, otherwise it would have cost too much. You have to be shrewd nowadays and of course that is how I like to do my deals.'

Robinson has been tracking the availability of the young defender since his arrival at West Brom and he was his top transfer target of the summer. 'He has done some tremendous things already in his young career.'

'He played tremendously well with Peterborough and it was clear he was better than League One even a couple of seasons ago. Norwich took him on last season in January and he was a great buy for them and he will do fantastic here too.'

Bennett was pleased to move on, sighting the factor of more regular first team football being promised at West Brom. 'Karl likes me and what I do on the football pitch and I have to look at what is best for me now.'

'One day I would like to play for England and I feel more wanted here by Karl then I ever have done at Norwich. I am really looking forward to getting going.' Bennett will join up with the squad in America for the remaining pre season games.

Craig Dawson has today left West Brom in a deal worth £3.2m for the club as he joins Celtic. The deal will also see £480k be given to Rochdale as part of the sell on clause.

The deal to bring Bennett to the club has ultimately seen the end of his days as a Baggies player but Dawson understands the decision to let him move and thanks Karl Robinson to let him do so. 'It would have been easy for him to keep me and let me sit and wait for my chance.'

'Instead he has looked at what he has, realises I am not going to get as many games as I would like and has let me move on. I can only be thankful for that.'

Robinson was pleased with the financial bonus to the club, now allowing a larger amount of money to be made available to strengthen with less than week till the start of the new season.

'There are just a couple of positions I wish to strengthen now. We are almost there with the squad I want I am pleased to be able to say that, there has not been much change in players coming in but I have been happy with everything that has happened so far in the transfer window.'

Karl Robinson has hinted that there may still be a chance that West Brom can sign Daley Blind on a permanent deal with the player looking likely to join them after the deal looked to have been over when he first took over.

'Circumstances have changed and we are in a position to offer a little more. We have a deal agreed with Ajax but it is now up to us to convince the player to come here and join us on a permanent basis.'

'If we do manage to pull it off then it will be a real coup to sign a player as part of a Champions League side and so we are doing everything in our power to do so.'

Ajax were unable to comment though Blind himself said, 'I am going to talk to West Brom now and we will see what can be done, nothing is set in stone. I am just coming along to see what they have and if I like what is on offer I will take the deal.'

West Brom draw newly promoted Championship side Charlton Athletic in the second round of the Capital One Cup with the match to the played at The Hawthorns.

Charlton secured their place into the second round with a win over League One Leyton Orient. Chris Powell was delighted with the draw. 'It is great for the players to go and test themselves against the best and West Brom are certainly a good side.'

'With that said it is a win able game for us and not one that we will shy away from, if we believe in it then we can do it. Of course is makes it harder to be away from home though and they (West Brom) will be clear favourites to win.'

Robinson was also happy with the draw, 'It is a home tie and that is all you can ask for at the end of the day. You so often see in this competition that teams with smaller stature can go on and have a good run so I am challenging the players to make that us this season.'

Daley Blind has joined West Brom in a deal worth £4.5m to Ajax, though Karl Robinson was delighted to have got his man.

'He will be a key part to the way that we play. He is young and willing to learn and I am so pleased that he has decided to join us and accept the challenge of the Premier League.'

'He was delighted with the set up here, the great training facilities a key to the deal that is for sure. We are just happy that he has decided we are the place for him.'

Blind joins on a four year deal that will see his contract run till 2016 and has stated his ambitions for the club and himself. 'I believe this club can be bigger than it already is and I have every intention to help it become that.'

'Karl tells me that they want European football here within three season, which is a tough ask but of course something very achievable and I want to be a part of that.' Blind will wear the number three shirt this season.

Liking the story so far, keep up the good work, and good to see someone doing a story with a different team.
