Mark Tonge: Metropolitan Man!

The Challenge is a simple one and the rules can be found here: Here. The aim is to win the Champions League 7 times, with 7 different clubs, but there are geographical restraints. I can only manage a team in one of the following cities:

Paris - Paris FC, Paris Saint-Germain, Red Star, Racing Club

Istanbul - Kasimpasa SK, Kartal SK, Gungoren BS, Istanbul BB, Galatasaray AS, Fenerbahce SK, Besiktas JK

Athens - Ilioupoli, Kallithea, Ethnikos Asteras, Panionios, Atromitos, AEK Athens, Panathinaikos, Olympiakos

Berlin - FC Union Berlin, Hertha Berlin

Moscow - FC Spartak Moscow, Lokomotiv Moscow, Dynamo Moscow, CSKA Moscow, Torpedo Moscow

St Petersburg - FC Zenit St Petersburg, Petrotest, Dynamo St Petersburg

Rome - Roma, Lazio

It's a tricky challenge and one that I hope I can conquer and also one that will be entertaining. Without further ado, let's get started...

Career History:

The challenge has been laid, so here is my game set up and my manager info for all of you that care and want the in depth experience that will make this challenge that little bit more enjoyable for you.

As you can see from the image above I have loaded 7 leagues, 6 of them playable and 1 view only. I decided to keep the English leagues as view only because I don't actually need to manage in England but I always like to keep an eye on whats going on. The other 6 are playable because I will eventually need to manage in each of them so who knows when an opportunity may arise.

The above image is my profile. It's not correct however I decided to make myself have an international career as my playing history to help with this challenge. My stats are a bit different as well as my tactical stats are a lot higher due to this experience. Anyway I'm Mark and I'm a 23 year old manager who was born in Northwich. An avid supporter of Manchester United with no other languages spoken.

HERTHA BERLIN

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wTBbWM9B0XTSJu5Ps7746SDXbZYt7xgBgysKggaA.png

My first destination is in Germany, the land of sausages, lederhosen and good beer, oh and of course one of the best football leagues in the world. I took the decision to take over at Hertha Berlin. Yes it's a bit of a challenge for the first team but you've got to start somewhere so this is where I decided to set up shop.

Club Background
Hertha Berlin were founded in 1892 and play in the Bundesliga in Germany. They play their home games at the Olympiastadion which can house up to 74,244 spectators. Training facilities are excellent and the Youth Facilities are rated great. The club is affectionally known as 'Die Alte Dame'. The club enjoyed it best spell in the 1970s and has won the Bundesliga twice in 1930 and 1931. Having never won the Champions League this is going to be a huge challenge.

Team Report

We have a team with some quality in there, whether it's enough at the moment to even qualify for the champions league I'm not too sure so reinforcements will be needed.

Our best player is Mitchell Weiser who is best played at CWB which will fit into my system perfectly. I hope that he will get a lot of assists during my time here and will only improve as he is a mere 22 years old.
Vedad Ibesevic will be the one to watch upfront and will hopefully grab the majority of my goals but I'm sure I'll be bringing in a younger replacement as soon as I can.
We also have a lot of good youth prospects which I'll hope to bring through quite quickly in order for me to challenge on the continent.

I hadn't heard of this challenge until now. Sounds very difficult but fun, I might give it a go one day in the future. Hertha is a nice place to start, I've always liked watching them in the Bundesliga; like their name, kit and stadium. Good luck!

Will be following this, always liked this challenge. Tough and lengthy but can still sign quality players. And take them with you.

Metropolitan Man: Pre Season RoundUp

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wTBbWM9B0XTSJu5Ps7746SDXbZYt7xgBgysKggaA.png

The start of the season has quickly come upon us and we have finished our pre season. One I'm pretty proud of as we played some great football both in competitive and non competitive matches. Signings came in and I've had to bat away approaches for my better players that I think will be key for my challenge. I've also changed my captaincy and my squad seemed to take it well and react in a positive fashion. Let's take you through a few key areas:

Transfers: In & Out

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SBFIZYBweRBfR7O0fOhasJEmG4Kb1mva0r3neVxN.png

It's not been a busy time in the transfer market for me, both on the incomings and the outgoings but I feel like I've strengthened the first team squad with some added depth which was needed. The two outgoings were loan listed and hopefully both of those will come back to the club next season better than now. A lot more youth players and reserves will be loaned out a bit later on in the season to help develop themselves.

SUTTNER

Form:

We have played a total of 13 games in pre season: 5 of those beings competitive fixtures and 8 friendly matches. 4 of those games were in the Europa League Qualifiers and the other one being in the DFB-Polkal Cup.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/u5QDgWgy7PPqNlyGRu4U72Jonpol9oeIWdxIdYuR.png

As you can see above we won all the competitive games and we played really really well. Luzern were a strict test for us although I always expected us to win. A 5-2 win on aggregate sent us through to the Group Stages where we have been drawn in a group with: Qarabag, Zenit St Petersburg, and Ludorogetswhich could be tougher than it looks but I hope we can perform well and gain the all important european experience which will be pivotal when we challenge in the Champions League.
The DFB-Polkal kicked off and we got an away win against lower ranked Lotte, but I did expect us to beat them by a bigger margin. A win is a win though and we march on to the next round against FC Koln.

MID SEASON UPDATE: HERTHA BERLIN

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wTBbWM9B0XTSJu5Ps7746SDXbZYt7xgBgysKggaA.png

So first of all I need to apologise for the time between this post and my last one...believe it or not, I was in Germany on a scouting mission (not really) but I was over there visiting the Christmas markets in Cologne so thats why I haven't posted. Last time I did post, it was pretty much the start of my mission, I had taken the reins of Hertha Berlin and was hoping to start my challenge for European glory but how did I get on?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0sQ3hqDTSqjee0wa70drMxOZKO388tFWDihJ1FLU.png

A difficult fixture against Leverkusen was my first league game in charge (a little harder than I wanted to start with) and somehow we managed to sneak a draw after being 3-1 down. Points on the board and a run of 5 games where I'd gain maximum points in the league and on my travels in Europe. An 8-0 thrashing of Qarabag set me on my way in the Europa League and I couldn't have wished for a better start to my tenure. My form maintained itself through the mid part of the opening sector including a huge win against FC Bayern which I didn't expect and also we progressed further into the latter stages of the DFB Polkal cup after a fantastic win against fellow high flyers 1. FC Köln.

Overall this meant that we had finished the first half of the season at the top of the league. We would be going into the winter break friendlies 3 points ahead of the rest which totally surprised me. We also finished 2nd in the Europa League Group and got drawn against Braga from Portugal who will provide a stern test for us but I'm confident.
