With Shedenders European adventure coming to an end because he wasn't good enough so made his game crash, and probably because he was miles behind me I also called time on mine. But over the last couple of days we've been considering many different challenges to take on and in the end it was a simple idea we have gone for. We are both attempting a 'journeyman' career with no real set goals, just to see who can become the most successful.

We've gone with very few rules. You must start unemployed. You must start with sunday league reputation and you can load any league you want at any time. Meaning there was very little you had to abide by. The rest was your choice and the direction you took the challenge on in. This time I shall be playing on the full game!

My Set Up:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/9jHlEMg2KYBEaKPRNWIDQx2T0UBHFd3Yh64hWW9d.png

Here is the set up I have decided to run with for that start of my journey. Six leagues fully loaded whilst another league is on view only. I have England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain all down to their lowest playable division in hope I can get a job immediately whilst Brazil is loaded on view only just so I can follow the regens that come through and can try and snap some up early. So this will give me plenty of early adventures in the lower tiers of the footballing league and with the add remove button I can obviously change these as I go on.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5uf8RDB3c3LOFEziY2s7tCbKIm45pn2MlYjCMQYv.png

And finally here is the manager. Once again its myself 'Dan' who will take this challenge on and who will easily romp past Shedender in this journeyman challenge! Sunday League reputation starting unemployed to make the job even harder for us and the fact I have English nationality will probably mean I will start in England but nothing is certain yet and there are some jobs available to start off with.

And so here is where it all begins. The job center, again! Looking for a job in football management they say, and laugh but I will be back to prove them wrong! However first I had to get a job and with my sunday league reputation it wasn't going to be easy! Who wants to employ a young lad from Somerset to take the reigns of a football club! It doesn't sound a fairy tail thats for sure!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TR3vnx4qF5NbJV3rEjhl6Clig2vQpQtdFZn0nHyi.png

This is what the computer screen fed back to me as I looked on for a job. There were several vacancies but were they all out of my range. My home country of England bared the majority as Championship side Blackburn hunted for a boss along with League one side side Bournemouth, League two sides Wycombe and AFC Wimbledon as well as non league, Blue square Bet South side Havant and Waterlooville all seek a new manager. Away from England there are just two vacancies! In Portugal second tier (Out of three playable tiers) side Santa Clara seek a new manager as do Mirandela who play their trade in the 2a Divisao Norte, the third tier of Portuguese football.

I won't make a fool out of myself so won't be applying for the Blackburn, Bournemouth, Wycombe and AFC Wimbledon vacancies, however the other three I will be looking into!

After I went into the job center and looked over the jobs it was just time for me to decide where to go and which ones I should apply for, without making a fool of myself. There were two, maybe three jobs that I could realistically get my name to but it still wouldn't be easy with two of them across the world over in Portugal. Would I be able to master the language that quickly?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2AlCFRBMB8Lhix5Q1ermkvFTwLaCLUymSXANXqOB.png

Two jobs really stuck out to me and that was both of them being in Portugal. The Havant and Waterlooville job in the basement tier of English football really wasn't that appealing. However the second tier job of Santa Clara may be out my reach but I applied anyway. I also applied for the third tier side Mirandela who looked to be set for a tough season but one I'd take on.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/luYhmbh04LeHtWGVKloktfAp3GXqTmw5iLsW4CwS.png

One job rejection and one job offer! The Santa Clara job seemed to be a step too high to start off with as they rejected my interest almost immediately and went on to take another manager on. However it looked like I was set for a job in Portugal. Mirandela seemed more than happy with my interest and got in touch with my agent to offer me a contract. The contract is just a one year offer, I was originally offered £475 per week however I changed this to £500 per week which the board accepted. The clubs main objective is to stay clear from relegation in the 2a Divisao Norte.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1X7KX6LohYIKl72qkjU42kh3JjynhE5Oge4PuqcH.png

And there it is! After just a few days of putting my name about in Portugal I have secured a job in management. Mirandela went on to take a young, rookie, sunday league, English born manager on and were prepared to be the first stepping stone of many hopefully. I will run down the squads financial status, player status and information on the next update so you can see what the job will include.

So I was in the managerial business and it was set to be a tough start at Mirandela. They aren't the best team but with them sitting in the lowest tier of Portugal, the 2a Divisao Norte it is important we don't get relegated as that would put me out of a job completely. Here is a brief rundown of who Mirandela are and what lies ahead not only this summer, but this whole year that my contract and managerial future relies on.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BIpGPHlrh9p6CbrqcI4Hbk5YZ7YBcqUP6YucKAST.png

Mirandela are a semi professional football club in the basement tier of Portugal, the 2a Divisao Norte and are predicted to finish down in thirteenth out of a possible sixteen which could be a slight issue. They have next to no history after they won promotion to this tier just once last year. With no club icons, legends, favored personnel or fierce rivals the club don't have a lot.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xkR1E0dwHDkyfvY5Mt4KwICedFpAa9LT2fVkVfJI.png

Here is the current financial situation at the club and it isn't brilliant. They have a tiny budget of just thirty five thousand pounds left in the balance and absolutely no transfer budget to spend this summer. Along with that, the wage budget is nearly all gone. Allocated three thousand seven hundred and forty pounds they are already spending three thousand five hundred and seventy pounds, leaving myself just one hundred and seventy five pounds spare, meaning I must get rid before buying.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vWea4jFnV9QRC1oVHSPscK0HEkNZUzwCpNo6zhJc.png

Here is the current squad at Mirandela the same day I took charge. It isn't the best but at the same time I have seen and been in charge of worst teams. Its one that will need strengthening over the net few weeks though should we wish to hit third place. Our two goalkeepers need replacing whilst we could do with another centre back. Midfield is a little weak and needs strengthening again however upfront we look alright with two three and a half star strikers and a potential five star striker in loanee Lucas.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7oSUPSiowSdNq48ZzyVmI3Eluusjig5aMSMSfgIy.png

I've already got my tactics set and these are ready to be used in the summer friendly list which is rather packed as always with me. Eleven matches to cram into the summer which will be played over seven weeks however more matches may be scheduled and some may be canceled. Only two away and the other nine being at home I hope the team can get use to tactics quickly.

My first pre season here in Portugal was set to be one I looked forward to and having taken the reigns of Mirandela, a club I knew nothing about, it was sure to be a tough season ahead. The squad needed improving, the budget was tight and we had a whole host of friendlies to play for the team to get use to my tactics and my way of playing. Here was the busy pre season we went through.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/eC4dWo5Bq9xdQHnnNYoP7MnKdC8NUoaKD21X0227.png

The transfer window wasn't that busy for us a we made a few 'needed' changes in the squad. We two players contracts terminated almost immediately under my reign as they were no hopers! We also loaned out promising striker Fontoura to non league side Lusitania Lourosa with them paying all of his wages. Coming into the squad we saw five new faces. We sealed four players on permanent deals. A new striker in Bessa who looks promising, Colaco will be our new number one whilst Carlos, the attacking winger doesn't look amazing right now but is one for the future as is striker and attacking winger Fernando. We also grabbed Valente on loan from Braga a young midfielder with bags of quality.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/q1qkArL8pf0nTDDjjVEAnFZOWayKBUD1lFy6sVbD.png

I think this shows we have improved the squad in the right areas without going stupid. I couldn't sign many due to our tight budget and the board wouldn't let me release anymore due to the money we'd spend in compensation! As I said, Colcao will be our number one and our defence is looking strong, we could still do with another strong centre back though. Midfield is much better however lacking instant quality on the left whilst upfront we have a variety of talent waiting to be released onto the field including new boy Bessa.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QXoztwYybKuXSG2MRAij2iqXN0zkPF0W5somgtOz.png

All the signings did come at a price though and it was a costy one for our financial situation. As I took over the club were in the black by thirty five thousand. Now we sit thirteen thousand in the red and looking in trouble as we are also over spending on the wage budget by ninety eight pounds meaning we are losing money instantly each week and with the board not letting anyone go its going to be tough to sort that out.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xq0rGiIfqqbjZfZY06sZxjNtYnGcXKxJajKXbbWo.png

Finally the friendlies and it was a rather good summer for us, most of the teams we played were non league teams but it was good for them to fit into the formation and get use to playing football together as a team. Nine friendlies in total and it saw us claim six wins which is a good building block, one draw and two defeats. Unbeaten in our two away games however a small worrying note is our lack of clean sheets! We kept one and that was against the reserves in the first game of the summer!

Among the busy summer pre season I had one game late on in August which was a competitive game and saw me take charge for the first time here in Portugal. It wasn't an easy start either as life began for myself, a sunday league rookie manager. However we were drawn at home which would boost our chances of reaching the second round...well thats what I though anyway.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kb3ccSvTGcvsEIi3ZpFz0bKYdN8lX3how3Qu7IOT.png

We are off on the right foot! We welcomed Amaranta, a team in the same league as us, in the Taca de Portugal first round where we relied on our new boy to dig us out of trouble in the second half. A poor first half from us saw us slip behind eleven minutes before the break which proved a big blow. However some tactical words of wisdom by the manager, yes me, saw us come back to claim the win. Bessa brought us level by nodding home a cross with twenty six minutes left on the clock before beating the last man and drilling home inside the box six minutes later to send us into round two with a two one victory.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/GVjyWy7xim6K47WQWjXzR7HNpW75waUcQCND2cqi.png

Its early days yet for sure but it already seems I have my captain on my side this season! Danilo heaped praise on me after this two one cup victory following my 'inspirational' half time team talk which saw the team turn around the deposit to advance to the net round!

You have received the first job offer (between us two) on this career and it's with a little unknown Portuguese club who I could have managed before I decided to scrap Portugal as I don't want to manage the same team as you - at least this early on. I'm sure you'll exceed expectations and finish at least mid table or just below.

I feel I've bit a solid foundation at the team this summer Shedender, not saying we are title worthy yet but I feel a mid table finish is possible. Would of been nice to see you take on the same team but I shall just have to wait and see on which way you go. Have you removed Portugal altogether?

Our first full month in competitive football here in Portugal saw a busy month for us as we faced five games over the net four weeks in September. It wasn't going to be easy with us predicted thirteenth but we wanted to get off to a flyer. Four games were set to be played in the 2a Divisao Norte first phase (the league) whilst we also faced the second round of the Taca de Portugal. Hopefully we could remain in the competition.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/KBdCkMtPWM9aQV8WlSs4CwnRiFj6kty7g5SrM4AP.png

The first game of September saw us travel away for our first league game of the season as we traveled to Infesta where we managed to claim a two one victory. We were behind at the break but once again a superb second half display saw us claim the points. Bessa brought us level with half an hour remaining before Valente netted eighteen minutes from time as we secured a two one victory and off to a winning start.

The second round of the Taca de Portugal saw a seven goal thriller as we traveled to non league side Rebordosa. Bessa once again got us off to a flyer netting after eight minutes and ten minutes later we were two up. However Rebordosa thought back strongly and were level after half an hour. Six minutes before the break Bessa secured his hatrick and gave us the lead once again. Moments after the restart we were pulled back again and it was now three a piece. It went into extra time while we left it late we did advance as Nuno Valente went on to net the winner in the last minute of time.

Our only home game of the month saw us welcome Vizela which we narrowly lost out in another great display. We were behind early on and two down come the break but we weren't dead and buried just yet! Lopes pulled one back for us seventeen minutes from time before Vizela netted their third. Valente netted a late goal for us to bring it to three two but we were unable to claim all three points.

We returned on the road as we traveled to Limianos and returned to winning ways in another narrow victory. Bessa netted after just six minutes to my joy before Valente continued his fine start to the season as he netted moments before the break to double our lead. Four minutes after the restart the home side managed to pull one back, but a defensive switch saw us remain on top and claim the win.

We ended September with our fourth win from five games in our fourth away game. Our main man Bessa was the man on fire once again as he netted his eighth and ninth goal in just six games this season. He gave us the lead after twenty five minutes before Joane netted on the verge of the break to level things up. But Bessa grabbed another goal, twenty eight minutes from time to secure a two one win.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hzQRypbFPpufCseuxyhmaQSTRjOSugrr2nLX657X.png

Despite being predicted to finish down in thirteenth out of a possible sixteen this season we are off to a storming start causing upsets all over the shop and claiming nine points from a possible twelve in our opening month which sees us sit all the way up in fourth place. We are only three points off the top as Varzim make a storming start winning all four of their opening games. Its unlikely we will be up this high for much longer and with only one spot available for promotion we need to be better than we are. This season is all about surviving though, not promotion!

We had made a flying start to the league and cup campaign and were sitting miles above where we were predicted to come at the end of the season. However the season is long and we are only a few months into it. October was now upon us and so were another four games. Three league games along with the third round of the Taca de Portugal as we looked to continue the cup run and league form.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nAzl1MophSsbkMXv9aNl8ERNqOxZDZch1P2BssyR.png

October started on a slightly sour note as we welcomed Gondomar and our winless run at home continued. This may of only been our second game at home all season but it was also our second defeat. We got off to the slower start conceding after twenty minutes. However pulled a brief bit of hope out when Bessa netted two minutes after the restart to bring us level. It wasn't to be our night though as we conceded a second and slipped to a two one defeat.

The second game of the month saw us return to Taca de Portugal action and the third round where we traveled to top tier side Moreirense where we almost pulled off the shock of the round. We were behind after just two minutes but that didn't knock our spirits as Bessa leveled just ten minutes later. After the break we conceded again before Danillo missed from the spot kick and Bessa went on to net to send the game to extra time. Despite matching them shot for shot we fell short at Moreirense went on to net in the one hundred and third minute to take the spot in the fourth round.

Our first and only win of October came as we welcome Fafe to give our home fans the expected three points they've been waiting for. We took the lead on the verge of the break as Bessa broke through the defence unchallenged to strike home. We doubled our tally just two minutes after the restart as Danillo remained on penalty taking services and slotted it home this time. We conceded with seventeen minutes left on the clock but claimed the three points.

The month ended on a sour note as we traveled to seventeenth place Ribeirao and came unstuck in a three nil smashing. We almost instantly went behind and come the break we were two down. We didn't make it any better in the second half, conceding a third with little attacks our way, a poor end to a poor month.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/2QUJZIhBNynZV1tiWkCtYnhcBcPIIXJCZOsHANs2.png

Despite us picking up just one win in three league games during October we are still flying high and occupying fourth place in the league table. Our form has been rocky, probably that of a team predicted to come down in thirteenth but we continue to defy the odds now. We are out the cup which means we can focus on survival in the league this season as we slip five points away from the top spot now.

The penultimate month of the calender year was upon us and November was set to be another tough month for us. We had made a very good start and now we just wanted to continue our top half pursuit this season. With another four league games this month we just hoped for some better form.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Uq9cgwBnn6bI2kvYsQ9EXl6yRQ8kDjH1yhF5JCLg.png

The month began at home where we fell to another defeat when welcoming Varzim. We were behind after fifteen minutes before Toninho brought us back level. Before the break we trailed two one and shortly after the break we were three one down. Gil brought us back in it with eight minutes left on the clock but we conceded again and fell to a four two defeat.

Our only win came in a seven goal thriller as we welcomed Vilaverdense. Despite being two down within fifteen minutes we thought back and had one back our way when Fernando found the back of the net. Come the break we till trailed by a goal but the second half saw an inspirational forty five minutes from Bessa. He pulled us level four minutes after the restart and gave us the lead three minutes later. We conceded again before Bessa wrapped up his hatrick and our win late on.

As we traveled to league leaders Chaves we slipped to another poor defeat. Despite telling the players they had nothing to worry about we only found ourselves one behind at the break. Things got worst though as they turned off and added another three before Bessa grabbed a goal in the last minute of play.

The month ended with our sixth defeat in the last eight games! Despite Bessa giving us the lead after give minutes and us still being ahead come the break we chucked it away. Amarante thought back hard and netted almost immediately after the restart before netting with half an hour to go and stopping everything we created.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zdtiZPD72eEpNIPhnLZktTLxqdEhJFx5zFWt1FPC.png

Another poor month for us sees us slip down the league table again as our form begins to turn extremely rocky. We are now down to sixth in the league however are still holding a strong mid table spot do far. Twelve points off the top of the table which is our parent club Chaves but we are only five points clear of the relegation zone now meaning the pressure is on us to find some form.

It was that time of the year, the time the festive spirit is in full swing and we can expect to be jolly. And with us sitting up in sixth, seven places above our expected finish this season so far we are pleasing everyone. Now December gave us four more league games as we looked to end the calender year on a high and turn the form around hopefully. However remaining mid table is our main aim.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ucO00VGWSd7M13iBSGPEvSiSZ2828rQrYZXTpmTB.png

December began at home as we welcomed FC Famalicao and claimed a win to get the month off on the right foot. A brilliant showing from our on fire striker Bessa guided us to the points. He put us into the lead after quarter of an hour before doubling our tally with eighteen minutes of the second half left to play. It was to be him who secured the win as well as he netted from the spot three minutes later to secure his hatrick.

We managed to keep back to back clean sheets for the first time this season as we welcomed Padroense as we claimed a two nil victory. Bessa gave us the lead with his fourth goal in two games after just six minutes before Borges doubled our lead seven minutes later. We couldn't add to that early tally and ran out two nil winners.

Our only away game of the month saw us travel to Boavista where we claimed a five three victory in an eight goal thriller. We were behind after just five minutes as we got off to a poor start however Fernando brought us back level after nineteen minutes. Two minutes later we found ourselves behind again. Bessa then brought us level again in the twenty sixth minute before putting us into the lead before the break. Second half we went on to take control as Fernando claimed his second of the game before Bessa netted his hatrick and his seventh goal in three games before Boavista claimed another consolation goal.

The month didn't quite end perfectly however we did manage to remain unbeaten as we returned home and welcomed Tirsense. A narrow game saw us behind at the break and with it all to do. Despite us being capable of winning the game, we didn't but grabbed a point as Borges netted for us.

A fantastic month with three wins and a draw, claiming ten points from a possible twelve saw us jump up the league table by three places as we move from six up to third. We are still ten points off the top spot which is occupied by our parent club Chaves but thats not our aims for this season. We are clear of relegation by ten points so we are exceeding our expectations so far this season!

Our form certainly hasn't been constant Shedender but it appears no ones really is apart from the league leaders, the league is very tight apart from them.

December was a near perfect month for us as we claimed ten points from a possible twelve. However as we went into January we wanted to keep that form coming. It was set to get a lot tougher though which would back fire on us. Four more games to kick off the new year.

A poor month started with what proved to be our only point of January as we drew to Vizela. We were behind after twelve minutes before drawing level when Bessa struck eleven minutes before the break. Second half we fell behind once again and managed to claw back a point with nine minutes left on the clock when Corunha netted for us.

However from then on our month turned sour starting with welcoming Infesta. The wrong team talk led to an embarrassing defeat as we slipped up four one. We slumped three down before the break and sinking very fast! We clawed one back through Bessa but it was no good. A fourth went Infesta's way and we were dead meat!

A second game at home and a fourth without a win when we welcomed Limianos. A goal coming after the break proved to be enough to sink us again.

And an atrocious January came to an end when we traveled to Gondomar SC and lost for the third time in a row and not winning for five in a row. We were awful once again and its becoming a regular occurrence now. We went behind after twenty three minutes and stayed that way till the break. Second half we conceded a penalty which was converted before Toninho found the net with fifteen minutes to go, however it proved to be no more than a consolation goal.

The table changes once again! We now revert the move we made in December and now slip down the table back to sixh position. A month where we only picked up one point from a possible twelve saw us stutter our form and now trail the top spot by seventeen points. More worryingly we are now only four points outside the relegation zone and find ourselves slipping further down.

January was a torrid month so heading into February we knew we had to up our game. Its nice playing in Portugal and not having the silly winter breaks I experienced at every country I had reached in my Euro game. Back to this, February may of been the month of pancakes but it was important our season wasn't suddenly flipped. Four league games to contend with and try and find form in.

We started the month in good fashion with what I believe to be just our third clean sheet all season as we welcomed Joane. We got off to a quick start when Bessa netted after just thirteen minutes as he fired us into the lead. We waited till the second half to put the game beyond doubt. It was Bessa again as he struck home seven minutes from time.

As we traveled to lowly placed Fafe we came undone in a game we should of easily been winning. We were poor from the off but held on to the break at nil nil. Second half the game came alive. We took the lead through Bessa eleven minutes after the restart before Fafe replied with three quick goals to sink our hopes of back to back wins.

However we returned to winning ways when we welcomed Ribeirao by the slightest of margins. A close game saw us take the lead after just eight minutes through Borges before Fernando doubled our lead after quarter of an hour. Second half the away side thought back and netted once but we held on to another vital win.

We ended the month on a sour note as we came unstuck and lost one nil against second place Varzim. We gave them a good run for their money however a goal twelve minutes into the game was enough to put the result beyond doubt as we lost out.

We've slipped further down the table as we lose another position and drop more points. Despite two wins from four we can't help but fall closer to the relegation and mitable battle. The league leaders Chaves look to have the title wrapped up with seven games to go however we are now just seven points clear of safety and five points clear of our predicted finish, its going to be a tough final seven games!

You have surely survived bar an absolute brutal final seven games and hopefully that doesn't happen or you'll be given the boot for the first time on FM13.

If you've just jynxed us there will be trouble Shedender! Our form is rocky so anything could happen but steering these away from the relegation zone is a job I will thrive under!

March appears to be the penultimate month of the season and with our form as rocky as it is, and us sitting just seven points clear from the relegation zone it was important we put in a good month. We faced four of our remaining seven league games this month as we looked to find something solid.

We started the month with a tough home game as we welcomed parent club and league leaders Chaves and slipped to a narrow defeat. Despite being heavy underdogs for this game we played well and gave it our all and only slipped up once in the first half falling to a respectable one nil defeat.

The second game of the month was a boring goalless draw. We traveled to Vilaverdense, a point was a good result for us however I feel at times we could of snatched it!

The third game of March saw us perform possibly the best I've seen the team play all season. We welcomed Amarante and knocked home six. We led after just four minutes through Borges before Bessa doubled our lead. Amarante had one back before the break. But the second forty five saw us dominate again as Bessa netted his second before a flurry of goals coming from Toninho, Fernando and Rafa saw us claim a six one win.

But the triumphant win was short lived as we traveled to Padroense to end the month on a sour note. A game we should of been winning we lost once again. Two goals from their striker before the break before he knocked home a third to secure his hatrick and the three points for the home side.

We look set to avoid relegation now as we sit nine points clear of the drop zone with what I believe is just three games remaining for us now. However we can still finish in our expected finish of thirteenth which we are just three points clear of. My real target now is to try and earn a respectable finish, I'm aiming for fifth place but anywhere higher than thirteenth is now a bonus for us!
