David De Gea keen to impress Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea says he hopes to impress manager Sir Alex Ferguson during the clubs upcoming pre season tour of Portugal so he can fend off competition from Anders Lindegaard and cement his place as the clubs first choice goalkeeper.

David De Gea experienced a tough first year at Manchester United following his £17 million move from Atlético Madrid, but that hasn't deterred the young Spaniard, who insists he has what it takes to cement his place as the clubs first choice goalkeeper despite the challenge posed by Anders Lindegaard.

De Gea, 21, made 29 Barclays Premier League appearances for United last season and at times impressed. However at times he seemed extremely unconfident and the physical challenged posed by opposition players caused problems for the Spanish keeper. After heavy media scrutiny De Gea eventually lost his place in the first team, Danish keeper Anders Lindegaard impressing when given his opportunity until an ankle injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

With the clubs pre season tour of Portugal approaching quickly De Gea has turned his sights on impressing Sir Alex Ferguson whilst welcoming the challenge that Lindegaard poses, the 21 year old insisting that he can learn from the more experienced Danish keeper.

"It's true I had some issues last season, it was very tough and at times I felt like hard work was not enough," says De Gea.

"This season I feel more confident, I feel as if I've matured, I can't wait for pre season to begin. I want to impress the manager when we go to Portugal and hopefully I can do well. If I do well I'm confident I can become the first choice goalkeeper, although it will be difficult to keep Anders out of the team because he's a very good goalkeeper," added the Spanish goalkeeper.

"I can learn a lot from Anders also, he's a more experienced goalkeeper, I must listen and learn."

Welbeck and Cleverley have big futures says Carrick

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/74.png http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/ShareButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/FacebookButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/TwitterButton.jpg

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick believes that team-mates Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley are set for big futures at Old Trafford and will no doubt become key players for England.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has found another two stars according to Michael Carrick.

Academy graduates Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverley have been tipped for big futures by their Manchester United team-mate after the pair proved last season that they could make the step up to first team action at Old Trafford, Welbeck rewarded for his fine form with a spot in England's squad for the European Championships in Poland and Ukraine, Cleverley expected to make his senior international debut against Cyprus next month.

Welbeck made 30 appearances in the Barclays Premier League last season and scored 9 times, the 21 year old impressing everybody at the club after returning from a successful loan spell the season before at Sunderland and team-mate Michael Carrick believes that the young striker will become a key player for not only Manchester United but also England.

"Danny has an extremely bright future ahead of him and he'll become a massive player for club and country, I've no doubt about that. You look at what he's done at Sunderland and done for us last season, he's never looked out of place," said Carrick.

Tom Cleverley wasn't as lucky as Danny Welbeck last season, the midfielder suffering an ankle injury in October that kept him sidelined until late February and impacted upon his season after the young midfielder impressed in the early parts of the season. The 22 year old made 10 appearances for United last season, the midfielder also impressing like Welbeck after returning from a season long loan at another club, Cleverley scoring 4 times for Wigan Athletic, making 25 Barclays Premier League appearances for the Latics.

After witnessing Cleverley's talent, Carrick has also tipped the 22 year old for a big future.

"Tom will be a big player for Manchester United, he's a very good passer of the ball, he's got great vision and can score goals like Paul Scholes. He's a typical Manchester United player, he's exciting to watch and I've no doubt he's going to be a very important player for us in the next few years," said Carrick.

"It's a surprise he hasn't been capped by England yet, but I don't think that's far away, he's going to be a key player for Manchester United and England, maybe even next month against Cyprus," added Carrick.

Ryan Giggs says he's not contemplating retirement despite his 39th birthday approaching quickly, the Welshman insisting he'll continue as long as he can contribute to the success at Old Trafford.

Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs has won everything you can win at club level, the 38 year old becoming the clubs all time record appearance holder along the way whilst winning an amazing 12 Barclays Premier League titles. Giggs has made an incredible 638 league appearances for Manchester United, scoring 111 times for the Red Devils in a career that also seen him represent Wales 64 times.

Ryan Giggs not contemplating retirement

With just a year remaining on his contract the veteran winger says he's not contemplating retirement.

"To be honest I've not thought about it, it's not something I've thought about for years, I'm just looking after myself and staying fit. For me if I'm able to contribute to the first team then I'll continue as long as the club want me here, come December I'll sit down with the manager and assess things," says Giggs.

"Obviously you can't go on forever and when the time comes I'll be able to reflect on what I've achieved in the game, but for now I'm just looking forward to the new season," added Giggs.

Manchester United start their pre season with a clash against Sparta Prague at Old Trafford next Saturday.

The Red Devils will then depart for Portugal for their 2012 DHL Tour of Portugal, Sir Alex Ferguson's men set to take on Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Vitória de Setúbal. United will then wrap up their pre season preparations against Belgian side Royal Antwerp just a week before they kick off their 2012-2013 Barclays Premier League season against Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium.

Rooney excited by Robin van Persie arrival

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/BBC Headers/4.jpg

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/23SHARED.png http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/ShareButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/FacebookButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/TwitterButton.jpg

Wayne Rooney says he can't wait to strike up a partnership with Robin van Persie when the Red Devils kick start their pre season campaign this Saturday against Sparta Prague at Old Trafford.

Manchester United missed out on the Barclays Premier League title last season on virtue of goal difference, their arch rivals Manchester City winning the title on the final day of the season.

It was no surprise then that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson did everything in his power to add firepower to his squad during the summer and the arrival of former Arsenal captain Robin van Persie in a deal worth £24 million has sent out a warning to the clubs title rivals before the season has even started.

Now with pre season fixtures beginning in just days Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has spoken about his excitement following the arrival of the Dutch international, the England striker hoping to strike up an instant partnership with van Persie when United meet Sparta Prague at Old Trafford on Saturday.

"Having a player like Robin join the club is fantastic news for everyone, the fans, the players and the coaching staff. He's a world class player and last season there wasn't a better striker in the world, he's going to add a lot to our side and the younger lads as well as myself can learn a lot from a player of his class," said Rooney.

"Hopefully we'll be able to gel and start scoring goals during pre season," added Rooney.

Anderson hopes injury frustration is over

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/BBC Headers/Ando.jpg

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/53.png http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/ShareButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/FacebookButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/TwitterButton.jpg

The new Barclays Premier League season could prove important for many Manchester United players as Sir Alex Ferguson's side looks to wrestle back the league title from arch rivals Manchester City and one player that will feel that he has a lot to prove will be Brazilian international Anderson.

After 5 seasons at Old Trafford it's safe to say that Brazilian international Anderson has at times looked very impressive and then at times been extremely frustrating, his time at Manchester United one that hasn't been helped by knee injuries that at one stage threatened the midfielders Old Trafford career back in 2010.

Anderson arrived at Old Trafford for a fee reportedly in the region of £12 million from Portuguese side FC Porto in the summer of 2007 and the Brazilian impressed during his first season at the club making 24 appearances in the Barclays Premier League. The next 4 seasons saw Anderson suffer some injury setbacks, the biggest a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in February of 2010 that threatened the players Old Trafford career and ruled him out of his countries squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa that summer.

The 24 year old who has represented Brazil on 8 occasions signed a new contract with United in December of 2010 and that doesn't expire until June 2015.

However the player admits he's in need of a big season at Old Trafford, the Brazilian midfielder accepting of the fact that he hasn't shown the United fans his very best since his arrival, his lack of goals especially a worrying factor for a player that often finds himself in promising positions.

"I want to have a big season for the club, they've put a lot of faith in me, even when I was very young, they paid a lot of money for me and when I was injured the manager stood by me. I need to perform well this season, better than I ever have before in my time at Manchester United," added Anderson.

"The fans haven't seen my best consistently during my time here, I need to improve and show them what I can offer to the team because we have many good players who can play in my position and I want to play for this club, for me I don't want to play anywhere else. I need some luck with injuries, I've had some bad luck, but I think that's behind me now," said the 24 year old.

"One thing I know I must improve is my goal scoring, I don't score enough."

I had played up until March 2013 man, I don't want to start again and play just in case it's a recurring problem.

I'll come back to this in a bit when I know I've no problems with the game, for now it's on hold. I also don't have as much time with being back at work now as well pal so it might be awhile until I start writing again consistently.

Okay so I've played through the game for a bit, no crashing which is good and I'm confident this save is going to last. I've updated the first few posts in line with the new career (new pre season) so have a read of them I guess if you've time, you don't really have to you're not missing anything crucial really. Hopefully with work, social life, football and that stuff I'll be able to update a few times a week, probably mostly on weekends.

Juventus preparing bid for unsettled United winger

Manchester United winger Nani could soon be a Juventus player after reports linked The Old Lady with a £22 million bid for the 25 year old who only has 2 years remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

Nani could be on his way to Italy after reports in various papers linked the Turin based club with a £22 million bid for the Portuguese international, the winger impressing during Portugal's recent European Championship performance in Poland and Ukraine, Paulo Bento leading his country to a third place finish.

It's not clear whether or not United are willing to let Nani leave, after all he was a very important player for the club last season, the winger chipping in with an impressive 8 goals in the Barclays Premier League, although United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has often spoken about the 25 year olds need to mature.

Reports have suggested that Nani is unsettled at Old Trafford, the players agent James Fenn apparently unable to agree new terms with the club in recent months. It's reported that United have offered Nani a new 4 year deal worth £60,000 a week, £15,000 more than he currently earns, but Atkinson believes his client is worth at least £90,000, United so far unwilling to give into the players demands.

Nani currently has 2 years remaining on his Manchester United contract and he has made 125 league appearances for the club scoring 25 times. He has been capped 59 times by Portugal, scoring 13 goals.

Manchester United skipper to face Sparta Prague

Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will make his return to first team action almost half a year earlier than expected tomorrow when the club face Sparta Prague at Old Trafford.

When Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic went down in a heap after tangling with FC Basel captain Marco Streller during Manchester United's crunch UEFA Champions League group match nobody knew that the tough defender would miss the rest of the season, the damage serious, Vidic damaging his medial and lateral ligaments as well as rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

That was in December of last year and the defender has made a remarkable recovery, his initial recovery period estimated at about a year, Vidic set to return to first team action in roughly 7 months, a remarkable 5 months earlier than expected, no doubt to the delight of United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Vidic currently has 2 years remaining on his contract and reports suggest that United are keen to extend that by another 2 years, breaking their recent policy of offering 1 year contract extensions to players over the age of 30, the club hoping to tie Vidic down long term after constant speculation linking the player with a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona, the defenders wife reportedly unhappy with life in Manchester, although Vidic and his agent Ryan Doughty have always denied those rumours.

Nemanja Vidic speaks about his injury

The Manchester United captain will tomorrow take a big step in his injury rehabilitation as he lines up against Sparta Prague at Old Trafford, the former Serbia captain named in Sir Alex Ferguson's starting side for tomorrows pre season clash against the Czech side.

The Manchester United side that will start the game against Sparta Prague is below.

De Gea, Rafael, Evra, Ferdinand, Vidic (c), Valencia, Nani, Carrick, Anderson, Rooney, Van Persie

Manchester United 3-0 Sparta Prague

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/10-1.png http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/ShareButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/FacebookButton.jpg http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/TwitterButton.jpg

Manchester United easily beat Sparta Prague at Old Trafford earlier today in their pre season clash, goals from Antonio Valencia, Nani and Wayne Rooney securing a comfortable 3-0 victory for the hosts.

A comprehensive victory, the return of your captain and a impressive debut from your new summer signing, those were the positives for Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson after he watched his side comfortably beat Czech side Sparta Prague 3-0 this afternoon at Old Trafford, the Scot probably likely to be more pleased that captain Nemanja Vidic completed more than an hour of the pre season clash without any reported problems.

United started the contest on the front foot and summer signing Robin van Persie was immediately involved, the Dutch international linking up with Wayne Rooney on the edge of the area, the England striker curling his effort just wide of the far post as the Red Devils fired an early warning shot. A few minutes later a long ball from Patrice Evra was skillfully chested into Michael Carrick's path by fellow midfielder Anderson, the shot by the 31 year old sailing over the crossbar.

The hosts continued to dominate proceedings and looked like the only likely side to score, the visitors absorbing heavy pressure and the deadlock was almost broke with 20 minutes on the clock when Anderson surged into the area, his header cracking against the woodwork, the opportunity created by Nani who recently has been linked with a £22 million move to Italian side Juventus.

The 25 year old then found himself with his own chance to open the scoring on the half hour mark, the Portuguese winger arriving at the back post undetected, his header perfectly placed, a superb cross from Antonio Valencia converted, United finally getting a reward for their attacking style of play.

That's how the first half remained, although had Sparta Prague goalkeeper Ludek Valenta not saved a stinging long range effort from Rooney on the stroke of half time things could have been different. After the half time break United wasted little time in picking up where they had left off and within 7 minutes they had doubled their lead, Valenta failing to hold an effort from Nani, the rebound falling directly into the path of Valencia who simply had to poke the ball into the empty net from a few yards out.

Both sides soon made changes and the pace of the game changed, United not in any hurry to attack.

There was another goal however, Rooney rounding out proceedings with a powerful strike from a narrow angle, substitute Javier Hernandez who had replaced van Persie supplying the pass, the England international driving an effort beyond Valenta to make it 3-0, Sir Alex Ferguson's men convincing winners in front of more than 42,000 fans.

Manchester United cancel pre season tour of Portugal

Manchester United have cancelled their upcoming 2012 DHL Tour of Portugal after a virus broke out at the club overnight following their 3-0 win over Sparta Prague yesterday at Old Trafford.

Sir Alex Ferguson has apologized to Braga, Sporting Lisbon and Vitória de Setúbal after the club made the decision to cancel their upcoming 2012 DHL Tour of Portugal after a viral outbreak overnight.

In a brief statement by a Manchester United press officer it was stated that the club will soon try and arrange pre season friendlies against foreign opposition that will take place at Old Trafford.

The statement went on to state that the decision was made after consulting medical staff, players and staff effected by the viral outbreak to be given the necessary time to recover at home rather than whilst overseas and the club is confident that no players will be adversely effected come the beginning of the new season.

United have confirmed they will still face Belgian side Royal Antwerp in Belgium next month.

The Red Devils face newly promoted Southampton at St. Mary's Stadium on the opening day of the new Barclays Premier League season.
