How to view continental rules
How to set up continental rules without rebuilding the whole competition/s.
First open the editor and under competitions search for UEFA
Edit the club competitions you want to change by setting the comp/s to a nation, here it is England[but I usually use Belarus for some reason]
Do this to all the UEFA CLUB comps you want
[THEN OPEN NATION RULES FOR ENGLAND EXPLAINED IN THE FIRST COUPLE OF POSTS IN THIS THREAD]
once done convert to advanced rules
Now along with the English league structure you will see those UEFA competitions
Now we need to start making this a specific continental only rules file
go to list
select everything other than UEFA competitions and remove them
It will now look like this
Now we must delete that database change/s we created - we added nation to the comp/s
Go to Database Changes section, select the record/s and click remove.
After that click "reload database and apply undeleted changes"
we can now save the file
NB The file has to be xml so you need to use EXPORT and save the file this way, we do not want a fmf file. Exit the file now in the editor
Only thing left is to get rid of the Nation Rules we need this file to be continental rules only. For this we must edit the xml file directly and not in the editor
this is the great thing of using xml files it allows other options to edit
open the file it in Notepad +++ not in the editor
Click somewhere on line 3 - the "rule_group" line. Its the start of Basic editor nation rules section.
When you click somewhere on that line you will see a red line appear[marked with green dots here just to highlight it for you to see]
Scroll down with your mouse and you will see where that section the red line ends [it is line 245 IIRC in my European template file]
you now need to delete that section totally- this is removing the nation rules part of the file-
It will look like this when done correctly-now save the change
Nearly done when you open file in the editor it will have the UEFA comps only
You still need to make this a continental file this is easy
a new set of rules now shows called other
we need to change this from a default comp to a continent
Then add Europe as the continent
you can remove the comp/s being linked to England as a nation if you wish and again export to save
you now have a continental rules file
you can now edit things like this
FFP /Squad selection rules etc etc or even change the structure of a comp/s like @Carlito85 does with his brilliant file/s
I have found over the years that editing squad rules is always bugged in game via the Fixture rule index
so for continental comps I set up match rules instead of overall squad rules, so instead of having season rules you now have match day rule/s to comply with and you can add as many as you want really
it basically does the same thing and you can set up things to be specific like this as an example below eg certain rules for teams from specific leagues/or just specific clubs only this way you can impose tougher rules to say BIG clubs only, and therefore make things a bit fairer 😉
so if you want to let the DIRTY DOZEN still play in Europe but have massive sanctions here is your opportunity
In tests I have run this is the way to punish them better than taking money from them[game generates more to cover it quickly]
This way in a 10 year sim the ‘elites’ win the UCL once
Ignore that first match rule above which says nation#1 that should say The Home Nation players eg Spain/England etc
it works correctly in game but has displayed like this for approx the last 5 versions of the game
Editing International Comps
THE ABOVE METHOD CAN BE USED TO EDIT INTERNATIONAL COMPS TOO EG FIFA WORLD CUP/EUROS etc
but you have to edit the qualifiers too if you are changing the number of teams taking part in the FINALS-You will see below the WC finals is a 64 team comp also the EURO finals is a 32 team event
The only difference is you need to make the file International rules not Continental
Recent question on the froums how to remove the wage caps in lower leagues in England, again its an easy process
find the fixture rules/s you need to edit(explained above ) and remove the annual wage limit
also IMO remove this too
do this for every league you want to edit then save and verify the file
A slight issue has come to light when editing some minor rules eg substitute rules
NB some nations/leagues have an additional set of ‘rules’ to cover the opening season, covid rules really
take a look at this thread on how to address that
so as a pointer take a look at the section called additional helpers in both the nation and the various leagues to see if there is anything there that may clash with any changes you have made to a league structure
Some questions have been asked about making clubs/nations only sign homegrown players, this is a workaround and isnt guaranteed to fully work but it will really limit transfer activity
there are things you can try such as making squad rules all homegrown/no foreigners etc you can set this to a league/comp or individual clubs only
you would have to add rules to domestic club comps too IMO to make clubs not sign overseas players for cups
set the number of players to suite your needs, even set match squad rules if you want this should help with stopping clubs signing non homegrown players…however clubs may well still sign 1 or 2 foreign players perhaps for continental comps so you may have to set up rules there too
However you can limit transfer activity for a NATION by setting the rating to -1 i.e. no transfer activity just add the continent/regions accordingly …but note this imposes restrictions on the whole nation note just a club/league as yo u can do in the earlier method above
How non foreign players can work for continental rules… this restricts clubs from EPL in UCL
just have a play around to find what works for you best
Recent question on forums how to change KO times
Access the advanced rules as explained in thread
There are a few areas that need changing
In league schedule change time here-[as image below]
league schedule- check all the tabs below general/match days tv dates etc to see if there are any times in there
To get to the League schedule and its drop down vine you need to click on STAGES within the desired competition
this will allow access to the structure of that league/competition
The first stage will be numbered 0 click that(they may be only one stage if it is a straight league with no play offs etc)
now you will see tabs called league settings and directly below it League schedule
In that league schedule section-
change the TV dates times-
Change times special TV dates
NB YOU NEED TO DO THIS FOR ALL STAGES IN THE COMPETITION - SO IF THERE IS A STAGE 1 DO THE SAME THING- THIS STAGE IS USUALLY A CUP FORMAT SUCH AS A PLAYOFF
Now find the fixture time and rules tab
Change time here too under fixture time and rules-
in the sub folder called fixture times change any times here that are displayed
It may be worth also looking at the Fixture time and rules tab too
check the tabs below Fixture time and rules - general/maximum match days etc etc
In the fixture time tab perhaps enter times there make sure these times are the same as previously entered or the game could default to the original rules
How to change dual Nationality for newgens/regens
How to Ban Clubs from Continental Competitions
Pretty Topical I have been working on a Super League file for sometime but it has been an issue to get clubs to be ‘banned’ from playing in other continental comps
This threads gives a brief insight- https://sortitoutsi.net/content/52644/how-to-ban-a-team-from-cl-in-editor but even rebuilding whole comps and imposing various rules nothing worked clubs were playing in a Super League and other UEFA comps if they had qualified for them
However I found a workaround- and thankfully it works clubs can play in domestic leagues/cups[if you want that] and even if they win the league/cup or finish in a position that guarantees a continental place eg UCL/Europa etc they DO NOT take part their place is next by the next best team
So heres how you do it-
Search for a nation that isnt part of FIFA/Governing Body
I used the old Yugoslavia
and rename it whatever you want ..
J.P Morgan land 😉
Then go to clubs
search for clubs you want
and edit the Elite clubs [BOOOOOOOOOOOO]
and in the section marked Continental Club Nation[the clubs based nation will be there]
replace it with your created nation eg- J.P Morgan(Leave as Yugoslavia if you wish)
DO NOT JUST SELECT NONE THAT DOES NOT WORK AS THE GAME DEFAULTS IT BACK TO THE ORIGINAL SETTINGS
THIS WILL IN EFFECT ‘BAN’ CLUBS FROM ALL CONTINENTAL COMPETITIONS
One final step for this to take effect in the first season
you need to go to the registered teams in the various UEFA comps- UCL/Europa and remove the elite teams you want ‘banned’
The result is the game will pack the teams finishing 5-8 in EPL to take the top four places in UCL
and the following season just to check the league table looks like this😍
Creating a Super League
You need to do this in continental rules only
NB You do not use a nation to set the competition rules … it is a Continental Competition so it is set to Europe(even if it is not an official UEFA comp, that makes no difference)
Create the comp
database-competitions- select ADD
Then name the comp what you want and set it to Europe
You can have this as a standalone file or incorporate it as part of other European Club continental changes by using my Template file if you wish
I use the old European Cup set up-
This works fine in game I am testing at present with no issues
even though clubs finish in UCL places they just play in Super League
