Yeah but the point this all redirects to is that you support a team that week in week out is performing with the best in the world- a team that is extremely talented and gets big results often, against the best of teams. Think about fans of small, non-league and lower placed sides- they care about the club, and will always follow it.

Arsenal are another club like the rest, it is not a farce, look where it is at the moment. Sometimes we need perspective. Being a fan of a club that struggle can give you that. And when I say struggle, I don't mean compete with the best teams in Europe and the World and finish as one of the best 4 teams in a nation of 60 million for about 10 seasons in a row...

I fucking hate that argument.

United fans use the same thing: 'I can't believe you would complain about the state the midfield's in because do you remember the 80's? We were shit in the 80's'

Arsenal are struggling, Arsenal have struggled for 8 years and it's ridiculous to say anything other than that. Yes, they're not going to be going extinct and yes other clubs have far bigger problems. But for a club that's got the potential to do a lot more than just exist on Europe's top table, it's down right patronising to say they should be happy with underachieving because it could be worse.
I reckon it's probably in a way harder to support the big teams. Every defeat matters and is costly. No team has lost as many league titles in the PL than Manchester United. Probably.
We're one of the biggest sides in European football and we should be challenging for titles, not settling for fourth place every season and focusing more on making money than we do on winning on the pitch. It's a dark time in the club's history and there's a horrible feeling around Arsenal at the moment. It's depressing.

I started supporting Arsenal around 5/6 years ago and thought we'd win loads of trophies and be very successful - how wrong I was...

Can't be bothered with the rest but ive probably supported Arsenal longer than you've been alive ffs

My perspective is that we (the fans) are charged more than any other side in the country yet we are going backwards and pretty quickly too. I can no longer afford to go and watch the team i love, at least those who do support lower teams can see them live without having to put up with Jamie fucking Redknapp talking absolute shite before, during and after. And i do look at where we are now and remember that just a few seasons ago we was a team of world class players going an entire season unbeaten. A time which if we continue going the way we are at the moment will not happen again in my lifetime.

I think the person you are does attract you to a club. If you need to be successful, you will support a major team- if you just care about your local club and loyalty- you will support that team. Of course many might be near to a local club who is successful.

Every defeat matters no matter what league you're in?

Oh, and yes, Arsenal do have plentiful potential- but the clubs in and around them also do, and perhaps more. It's only harder to support successful teams if you have a phobia of failure. Most people surely get rid of the phobias by the time they've left school.

Behave, i support them because my mother does and as far as loyalty goes im one of the most loyal you could ever meet. But i honestly couldn't give a shit about my most local pro side, Southend Utd because im an Arsenal fan. Started when i was first getting into football as a 7 year old, some 26 years ago. Fuck me that makes me feel really old

But you have to be fucking insane to believe that Arsenal are doing anything other than stagnating. I don't think anyone would care if Arsenal were going anywhere, I don't think they'd care if they'd gone anywhere but just been out competed by better clubs. They haven't, they've gone, if anywhere, backwards.
Liverpool have went big backwards- so have teams like Leeds, Middlesbrough, Bolton, Blackburn, Notts Forest, Aston Villa etc, they are in far more miserable states of matter atm.

And VP- that wasn't against you- it's more people from London supporting Man Utd or people from Newcastle supporting Chelsea. They have to win to be happy.

And have any of their fans been anything other than upset with that?

The answer's no.

No one wants their club to stagnate, no one wants it going backwards. Ridiculous to say that there is no right for the fans to complain if that is happening because other clubs have it worse.

It's the exact same logic as saying you can't complain that a meal in a restaurant wasn't very nice because some kid in Africa is starving, and in both cases its stupid.

I didn't say he didn't have the right to complain. I just thought that calling the situation a farce was too far considering other plights.

And explain Platypus?
It's all relative. It's easy to compare the likes of Arsenal with smaller, poorer clubs and suggest that we have it better, but that doesn't mean Arsenal fans aren't wrong to feel great displeasure at the way the club is being run. Considering the size of the club, the size of the stadium and how good a side we have been in the not-so-distant past, it's incredibly distressing to see us selling our best players to our greatest rivals, purchasing inadequate replacements and moving backwards as a club. It's perfectly reasonable for fans to want to see Arsenal showing some ambition and competing for trophies.

People can have emotions attached to a club, that aren't necessarily connected with how much they win (despite the fact that they might win a lot).
I'm tired, so that's as far as I'm willing to elaborate, but I gather that you can figure out my point.
Well TS- would you prefer to finish 4th this year and quality for the CL, or would you like to win the League Cup?

Yeah Platypus- but surely the emotions at least remotely are relevant to their success. I mean I've always loved Sunderland from down in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, and live in Sunderland now- so have my allegiances with Sunderland as well as Liverpool.

What position would we finish in if we were to win the League Cup?

Well TS- would you prefer to finish 4th this year and quality for the CL, or would you like to win the League Cup?

I don't understand what that has to do with the argument?
Some of these arguments are terrible.

Firstly - The one where someone said you can't complain Arsenal are doing poor because they're doing much better than lower league clubs..ffs. It's all relative. Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world with hundreds of millions of pounds worth of players, they're expected to compete at the very top, Halifax Town are not. Just because other are worse off doesn't mean you can't complain. That would mean there would only ever be one person in the entire world that could complain as they're in the worst possible position. Probably an armless, legless, bald, starving, albino, Liverpool supporting, Canadian male captured by Al Qaeda and being raped by a man called George while being force fed his own testicles.

Next, Defeats do hurt more at the top, as they're unexpected. Do you really think Southampton are going to be just as hurt losing to Arsenal as Arsenal would be losing to Southampton? No. Arsenal are expected to win, Southampton are expected to lose.

At the beginning, yeah. Obviously the red card had a huge effect but we dominated the game for 60-70 minutes of it.
