I guess Balotelli had a good Euro's and that usually counts for quite a lot.

Yeah I'd imagine he's in there because of his Euro 2012 performances.

EDIT: Messi or Ronaldo have to win it imo.

I think that's a solid list really, no obvious omissions or particularly bizarre decisions.

Well, Aguero's going to win it obviously. I mean, he scored that goal.

Would love to see Iniesta or Xavi win it, they've pretty much ran one of the most dominant teams in footballing history. As per though, gonna be a showdown between Messi and Ronaldo.

Benzema was an absolute machine last season.

Scored about a goal a game after the new year.

It's a battle for second place, really, as there is no way Messi isn't winning it.

Messi, RVP, Ronaldo is my guess.

Fifa World XI: Casillas, Alves, Marcelo, Pique, Ramos, Iniesta, Alonso, Xavi, Ronaldo, Messi, Falcao

I don't understand how Real's second choice keeper got in.

Is the World 11 a sign of the quality of the players or is the league outside the top couple of teams just of poorer quality? Genuine question, i dont watch much Spanish football but i get the impression the drop of from the top teams is massive and maybe that makes the top teams look even better?

How Pique, Dani Alves and Marcelo got in that team is beyond me. Pique was unable to get into the Barcelona side for most of the start of the year as his defensive frailties were seen all too often, especially against Osasuna. Kompany should have got that place. I would have had Jordi Alba ahead of Marcelo even in La Liga team of the year and I didn't see much Bundesliga but Lahm never fails to impress in the games I see.

Also KL, I would have the Spanish league as the best league in the world but it isn't that dominant. The bad teams usually have a few good ball-players unlike the Premiership but defensively they are nowhere near as good and it really does make the top two/three teams look better than they are.

Wasn't Dani Alves injured for most of the season?

Espanyol were like a pub team last night, just to show the chasm in quality, never mind Barcelona never needing to get out of second gear. As for the World Team of the Year, bit pathetic;

GK- Manuel Neuer
DR- Philip Lahm
DL- Jordi Alba
DC- Sergio Ramos
DC- Vincent Kompany
MC- Xavi
MC- Andrea Pirlo
MC- Andreas Iniesta
FW- Cristiano Ronaldo
FW- Robin Van Persie
FW- Lionel Messi

I'd like to have seen a team more like that. Van Persie for Arsenal last season was better than Falcao, Cavani et al, and that was playing in a tougher league and scoring majestic goals for fun. I don't follow German football too closely, but I imagine maybe players like Hummels or Schweinsteiger might have deserved a look in perhaps? Also, Zlatan and Thiago Silva? How well did they do last season?

Wouldn't say he was much better than Falcao tbf, it's splitting hairs, both have been awesome.

You're actually right for once.

I mean, there's not much argument for a Chelsea player in there (maybe Mata) but the fact a Bayern player didn't get in despite the fact they got further than the two Spanish teams in the CL is ridic.

Any World 11 without Thiago Silva is a joke, an official FIFA one?! No words, just no words.
