With fixtures due to be released in the next week, time to start a new pre-season thread. Who would you like your team to be playing first day and over the Christmas break?
This is a pre-season thread but you asked who people want on the opening day of the season?

My thoughts exactly!
OK, I hold my hands up. Meant to go in Premier League thread. Apologies. This is mainly for confirmed transfers and pre-season friendlies.
You should be sacked as staff!

Are/were you drunk?

Anyway we play Newcastle in Chris Morgans testimonial. Should be a good one, hopefully i'll bag one for Poe.
It'd be nice if we had even a single friendly at the Etihad. It's been ages since we've played a friendly at home.

Sounds like us. Last year was first one in ages and the one we do have this year I am away for

Fuck sake, got friends who bought tickets for the Singapore XI match but I dallied and didn't get them.

Oh well, fingers crossed free-to-air TV here will broadcast the games.
070563 - 120815

I'll see you
Only three friendlies lined up so far. We're playing MLS All Stars and then off to the Audi Cup in Munich. Will be playing Real Madrid and then either Bayern or AC Milan.
Well, hoping we manage more than the 2 pre-season friendlies we had last year...No news on any yet though!
Sometimes you have to stand in the shadows; to see the light.

We've only got two friendlies announced so far, and one hasn't been announced whether it's the first team or not, I think it's been penned as an "Argyle XI" so far. Both local games vs, Torquay and the Argyle eleven vs, Truro, which is handy for me.
Our Pre-season schedule so far:

Warrington Town v Bury - Fri 10 Jul - 7:30pm

Macclesfield Town v Bury – Wed 22 Jul – 7:30pm

Morecambe v Bury - Fri 24 Jul - 7:30pm

Radcliffe Borough v Bury - Sat 25 Jul - 3:00pm

Bury v Blackburn Rovers – Tue 28 Jul – 7:45pm

Bury v Preston North End - Sat 1 Aug - 3:00pm

Looking forward to the game at Macclesfield. Not been to Moss Rose for a while. Other than that the usual local-ish friendlies

Anyway we play Newcastle in Chris Morgans testimonial. Should be a good one, hopefully i'll bag one for Poe.

Pointed out by nufc.com that the last time we were at Bramall Lane (November 2009!), Morgan's own goal was the only goal of the game. Is he still playing?

NUFC's list...
July 10th - Gateshead (a)
July 14th - Club Atlas (neutral venue of Milwaukee)
July 18th - Sacramento Republic (a)
July 21st - Portland Timbers 2 (a)
July 26th - Sheffield United (a)
July 29th - York City (a)
August 1st - Borussia Monchengladbach (h)

Might try for Sheffield. As for the US games, its a bit much that NUFC's players complained the last US tour in 2011 (which went Kansas->Orlando->Ohio) required too much travel, and the team has duly booked a tour that is over 1,000 miles longer.

Also worth noting that Sunderland are in the US at the same time as NUFC, and are playing Doncaster on the same day as the York game. Which could make for some interesting meet-ups.

Your game vs us is Chris Morgans testimonial, he retired in 2011 iirc. He should play in it.

He's donating any money generated to three charities, two of them are Sheffield charities but he's also giving money to gary Speeds charity.

Yes. Indeed it is. I saw it mentioned that there maybe a link through former NUFC man John Carver, who was on the SUFC coaching staff when Chris Morgan moved from playing to management.

But that sounds like it should raise money for some good causes. Hopefully its a good match.

I'd go as far as saying it'll probably sell quite a lot of the 32,000 tickets available, maybe 25-27,000. Morgans very popular up here.

Looks exactly the same as the season before last just a new sponsor. Cringeworthy advertising campaign to boot.
Thats probably worse than anything Liverpool can do too.

I did the exact same double-take
Er, back to pre-season topic lol.

We've just kicked off away at mighty Lancaster. Probably our best chance of a win all season!

Ended up travelling to Portadown this afternoon with a 2pm kick-off, couldn't make it due to work commitments unfortunately but we got beat 3-0. We did win our first two friendlies beating Bangor Swifts (6-0) and Bangor Amateurs (5-2) while we've three more games within the week - travel to Comber on Tuesday before welcoming both Albert Foundry and Ballymena to the Fuels.
We were 3-1 up, before the match was abandoned. Played well going forward but defence was pretty poor. Especially Dunne whose mistake gave away the penalty.

Match abandoned due to pitch invasion protesting against the owners. Oyston Out!

EDIT: Photo of the pitch invasion, about 7 people really and the game could have resumed.
