Shepherd and Hall made millions out of Newcastle - Whilst paying themselves massive salaries and flogged their unprofitable businesses to the club.
I'm not entirely sure 2 relegations and several fan protests count as successful, but in fairness I do agree lots of takeovers at football clubs end up going to shit very quickly.

My point is takeovers never actually work - either the club is run in the exactly the same way it previously was, an owner is a 'maverick' who make impulsive decisions and pisses everyone off, Or an owner with big plans - who inevitably loses interest after no success and spiraling debts.

Plus Newcastle have had protests against every owner - and have spent more time in the second flight than the top flight - We were at the foot of the second tier in 1992

It's normal to want to be better than we've been though, and the past 10 years has yielded one good season in the top flight.

2 relegations in 10 years, along with an unsuccessful court battle against a former employee and an ongoing investigation into tax fraud is not a success in anyone's eyes but yours either.
It's not particularly successful - but we were absolutely rudderless before Ashley - and we probably won't be any better after him.

And what we had two good seasons in the decade before? - and two good seasons in the decade before that?

In the 90's we finished in the top 6 4 times, and in the 2000's we finished there 3 times.

That's 7 seasons out of 20 that I'd classify as a 'good season'.

We finished in the top half twice under Ashley, one of them a dramatic collapse where we should have been in the top 6 and ended up 10th, and the aforementioned 5th placed finish that was a great year.

Since we existed we've been relegated 6 times, 1 whole third of which came under Mike Ashley.

Footballing wise Ashley has been a disaster. Off the pitch hasn't been great either, mind - we had a similar level of turnover to Tottenham when he arrived.

Brighton 1 up at West Ham.

Def wouldn't consider the season Keegan walked away or the one that led to Robson being sacked as good ones.

Sorry it was three good seasons in the 90's followed - but back then teams like Palace, Norwich, Villa and Forrest could compete at the top - now there is six good teams - it's a lot harder - Everton are obviously there and finding it very hard to breakthrough. - Even when we finished fifth - we probably wouldn't have done if Chelsea got knocked out of Europe - and Liverpool were awful that year.
How can Hart call himself a goalkeeper his starting position for Brighton's second goal was absolutely shocking
Are you telling me Hart, Zabaleta, Arnautovic and Hernandez weren't enough to transform West Ham from a nothing club to title contenders? Well I am shocked. Hope they go down, I've been dying to see them play second division football in a half empty Olympic Stadium.
If results go well this weekend both West Ham and Everton could be in the bottom three at the end of it.

Watford take the lead after being a goal down, Richarlison had already missed an open goal too. Though John Moss has been doing all he can to give Chelsea every advantage possible so far.

If only Watford could hold on to a lead themselves...they need to nick the winner in injury time!

Looks like the dog botherers will have the upset of this weekend, though.

How good are Huddersfield then!

Well... Another poor display. Glad we managed to turn things around (Michy <3).

We have to start getting better!

Great effort from Huddersfield. Whatever happens this season, they'll always have this day to remember.

What a performance. What a day. People didn't give us a prayer, but we've gone and beaten Manchester United. And deservedly - we were better than them. (That's a sentence I never thought I'd get to write). We didn't play expansive football, but we were compact and used the ball brilliantly. Carried a huge threat when we broke. Forced errors out of them time after time, gave them nowhere to go, contained them and controlled their threat brilliantly. Every man ran his heart out. The whole performance was summed up by Zanka's world class block in the 94th minute when Smalling looked certain to score - Zanka could hardly move in the second half, but he somehow produced a truly colossal performance, probably the best I've ever seen from a Town centre-back.

As for the atmosphere - I can still hardly hear a thing. My voice has gone. After over 20 years of supporting them this was an afternoon to savour. 9 years ago today we lost 5-3 to Hartlepool under Stan Ternent in League One. How times change.
Sorry Deano, but Koeman can go fuck himself.

I'll see you
Actually think this might be Klopp's last season with us, unless he addresses the problems in defence in January he is at risk. Everyone knew we needed to fix our defence and he made practically no attempt to sort it.
Bye bye Klopp, time is running out

Have to say Everton are possibly the worst side we've faced for some time, i was actually annoyed we only scored 5.

This. Sick of fans getting all arsey at others for any sort of criticism directed at him. Hes got major questions to answer. All well and good being passionate and illiterate as fuck, but our defending hasn't improved, and we still struggle to break down any teams that come to sit back. Salah while being amazing signing we already have players of his style and wasn't a priority. Im also not sure whether Van Dijk will even be a solution, Lovren was decent as Southampton, think its a much deeper issue. Hendersons no captain either.

Thing is well go win 4-0 next week or something and itll just paper over the cracks. Today was absolutely embarassing. Schoolboy stuff.
Still reckon Pickford is really overrated. Like he looks better at saves by being 5'3

If you could defend like that on Saturday it would be great. I'll admit watching Match of the Day 2 and my eyes almost popping out of my head, it was that bad. Done by one ball so many times.

And if Coutinho, Firminho and Salah could all announce they're in negotiations with Barcelona and rule themselves out that would also be great.
Lovren is terrible. Not sure what Liverpool were thinking when they brought in AOC instead of fixing their shit defence.

Ronald Koeman sacked.

Sean Dyche seems the early favourite to replace him. I could see it happening too.

Saying that, people also seem to link Moyes with every job going now and low and behold he is also big in the talk of going back to his old club. I really hope that doesn't happen.

Burnley are in a much better place than Everton at this moment. Would be a step down for him.

Dyche would be an appointment as short-term and half-arsed as they come. Yes, he is a good manager and has done well at Burnley, and in the short run this might work but is he the answer going forward? Probably not.

If I was Everton, I'd stick with an interim choice for now until they start picking up points (and tbf, they still have genuine quality in that squad and are nowhere near relegation fears as of now). If that fails, there is still enough time to bring in someone before the winter transfer window starts and go from there

Why the fuck would Everton bring back Moyes?
