How could you seriously think that? Kung Foo kick to the face.

He's always going for the ball, since when is a high foot a red card?

It is the same when you jump with your elbow out, without trying to hurt the oposing player, same when you make a tackle with both feet, or when it is a bad tackle. It's not like he didn't touch his face. Had he missed him it would have probably been a yellow but he kicked him in the face!

Imagine thinking that's not a red card.

Dangerous and reckless play. Both feet off the ground and went full pelt into Ederson's face. It's about as much of a red card as it can be
There's no way it's not a red card. Even 20 years ago they'd send him off.

He literally kicks him in the face - and Ederson has jumped too. It's dangerous play.
100% a red card!!

It's pretty simple. If Mane gets the ball and scores no problem, but the second he makes contact with the face/head then that's extremely dangerous and it's a red card. Kind of like rugby in regards to lifting a player. It's fine if you bring them back down safely, but the second you don't you can expect 10 minutes in the bin or an early shower!!

Gary Lineker saying it's a rubbish decision is fucking delusional and that cunt Klopp saying he seen the footage and he can't even see Mane touch Ederson is only trying to make an excuse for how is side crumbled so embarrassingly against City.
A lot of people were quite quick to criticise Mourinho for not shaking Hughes' hand, whereas it's emerged that Hughes told Mourinho to fuck off and tried to get him sent to the stands.

It was quite funny of Hughes to call Mourinho a sore loser, even if people judge that to be true that's the pot calling the kettle black.

Oh and Mane's red card was obviously the correct decision. The ball was lost, you don't go in with studs like that for a lost ball.
Initially I thought it was a borderline yellow/red call, but a red is pretty justifiable.

Meanwhile, can De Boer really help it if his players are prepared to play wildly awful backpasses?

Dann had to score at least once today!

So Ritchie didn't get sent off why?
Considering Benitez's absence and more defensive injuries, I had low expectations but it was a good performance overall that probably deserved it. Swansea may not have looked great, but we did still do enough to pick the points up. Very nice to see both an early away win and a good back-to-back double.

Certainly, I can get used to seeing my pessimism disproved.
So Ritchie didn't get sent off why?

Guessing the fact he didn't make contact with Mawson helped. Tbf I did see some Newcastle fans on Twitter yesterday drawing a pairing between that an incident involving Huddersfield's Elias Kachunga and Mbemba a few weeks back. May help to get some consistent ideas out of the officials.

EDIT: Didn't realise Ritchie made slight contact with Mawson's arm... hmmmm. Again, consistency from the officials may well need to be made.

They definitely should have got something out of the game today, Dann's header towards the end was an absolute sitter as well, not to mention Lee's shocking backpass. Sacking De Boer after 4 games would be mad enough, even madder after a decent performance today.

Good result for Newcastle.

Because it was nowhere near as bad as Mane's?
I thought it was a yellow initially but the replays changed my mind sharpish. Stonewall red card
Because it was nowhere near as bad as Mane's?

In what sense? Just because he doesn't connect? what sort of fucking rule is that?
Thought that was a red card too. You're not in control of the situation if you end up landing on your arse like that
Both should have been a red. Ritchie not getting a red doesn't make Mane's challenge any better.

Can't believe the amount of people that still think Mane shouldn't have been sent off. You don't jump 2 feet off the floor out of control, dig your studs into someones face and expect to not see red.

There is literally no way to defend that.

Rumours that De Boer has been sacked, if so i hope they get relegated.

BBC site has confirmed De Boer's sacking.

You really don't get any time in the management lark these days.
I mean De Boer is a fucking rubbish manager
Fucking idiot thinking he could go to Palace and have them playing like Barcelona, was always going to end in tears and Palace either sack him now or wait and risk getting relegated, had to go sooner rather than later.
Don't rate De Boer after his failed time at Inter either, but it's hardly his fault his players have occasional brain failures and forget how to football

Lets be honest, they were going to play Southampton (H), City (A), United (A) and Chelsea (H), add to that a cup tie with Huddersfield before the City game and you get a disaster start. Could easily go 8 games without a single point so it would have happened anyway.

He wasn't trying to do that though and the team have so far this season played more long passes than any other side in the Premier League, the media just create this idea before the season has even started that because he's Dutch they're gonna play the 'Ajax way' and everyone goes along with it without actually watching them play. And anyone that watched yesterday's game could see that them losing had nothing to do with the manager, just absolutely awful finishing and a retarded back pass early in the game. On clear cut chances alone they probably should have won that 4-1, take away the back pass its 4-0. Going by the lack of real transfer activity and the very premature sacking it seems as if they didn't really want him in charge but for some reason still appointed him, am certain they wanted Marco Silva originally but Watford got in first.

Either way you still cannot judge a manager after just 4 games in charge.

Maybe the people running Crystal Palace need to have a look at themselves as well. If they've hired someone that they feel has been so bad that he has to be sacked after 4 games, then they obviously aren't very good at their job either. Hope they go down.

Bang on, they should go too, what a mess they are.

West Ham 2-0 Huddersfield from tonight. Only saw the last half an hour. Looked to be heading for a stalemate until West Ham's first goal which took a massive deflection.

No, because it wasn't as bad as Mane's - as evidenced by the referees decision.

Do you honestly believe anyone would be talking about Ritchie's challenge if Mane hadn't been sent off on Saturday? - No of course they wouldn't just like 99% of incidents like it.

Agreed on the Ritchie point. Personal view, thought he was slightly unlucky to be booked. It's the excessive force thing. Ritchie stretches to bring a ball down at height - Mané sprints into the challenge. Angles and momentum matter.

As for us, the Reid challenge on Mounié was at least as bad as Mané's, only with far more of an element of WTF to it. I can't work out what he was doing, unless he's intentionally trying to kick an opponent in the face in the most obscure fashion possible. He's behind Mounié, pushes Mounié twice, falls over, then boots Mounié in the face while falling and while Mounié is jumping for the ball. Mané at least had the excuse that he was challenging for the ball - only Winston Reid knows what Winston Reid was doing. God himself is probably scratching his head. Clear unarguable red - and a decision that cost us at least a point. At first, the berk in the middle didn't even blow despite the fact our striker had his head surgically removed from his shoulders. Just summed up a one-eyed performance from Kevin Friend, who spent all of Monday night licking Andy Carroll's arse after he'd clattered half our team and booking ours for having Pablo Zabaleta charge into them from behind. To be fair, we seldom threatened but we weren't exactly threatened by clear-cut chances ourselves until we were undone by a fluke goal and a set-piece. We'd defended very well but certainly didn't do enough to win the game until their goals sparked us into something resembling attacking life.
