Ryan9s Attempt - The Leverkusen Curse (Season 1)

Right, lets just get straight into this with the league results. As you can see it was a rocky start. We'd have a couple of wins, then lose, and then win a couple, then lose again. We couldn't keep our momentum going, which early on was a real worry. However, we went on to lose to BVB 3-1, dissapointingly as we played well, but this kick started us onto a great run of results! A win over Bundesliga favourites FC Bayern started the run in November, then a lose to them stopped our 17 league game unbeaten run in April. A couple of wins, a draw and a defeat on the final day wrapped the season up for us ... So with those results, how did we place come the end of season?

http://i.imgur.com/a2bMDP6.png?1

Disappointingly, it left us in 2nd place. Whilst 2nd is better than I had expected pre-season, I say that we 'disappointingly' finished there because going into the final match we were in control. A point ahead of FC Bayern going into it, however our final day defeat was costly, as FC Bayern went on to record a 1-0 win to clinch a closely fought title. I'm still pleased to have finished 2nd in my first season, hopefully next season we can push on and topple them.

http://i.imgur.com/8wK7W3U.png

The German Cup saw us start against Unterhaching, who we disposed of 2-0. Next round we faced Dusseldorf, and again an easy progression through! Next stop, Hertha. A stronger side than the previous 2 rounds, and this showed. A late equalizer for us manager to take it to extra time, before a 120th minute goal from Chicharito saved us from going to penalties.
The Quarter Final saw us face Stuttgart, and they took the game to us, behind by 2 early on we changed it up a bit to try and get back into the game. 2-1 at the break, game on! We sent more and more forward but we couldn't get the equalizer. They stunned us on the counter attack to book their place in the next round, a disappointing exit for us here.

http://i.imgur.com/t9Cgrpa.png

The Champions League Group Stage saw us draw with Dynamo Kyiv, Benfica and Astra Giurgiu. A thrilling opening game saw us beat Kyiv 4-3. Second game a tough fought 1-0 defeat at home to Benfica, the toughest of our opponents in this group. Next up we played Astra Giurgiu twice, winning 2-0 away and 1-0 back in Germany. Another high scoring game with Kyiv followed, but this time we were on the wrong end of it. A thriller for the neutrals saw us lose 5-4! Finally our trip to Portugal to face Benfica, where a 2-0 win saw us finish 2nd in the group the our opponents. I was optimistic with the draw against Napoli. First leg they came to us, where we only drew 2-2 in a game we should've won. In Italy it was a completely different story, and a much tougher game. Napoli ran out 3-0 winners, making it 5-2 on aggregate as we were eliminated in the First Knockout Round!

After a great performance from my team throughout the season, and norrlowly missing out on being crowned champions, I was named Manager Of The Year!

http://i.imgur.com/gwrodpC.png

The German Footballer Of The Year went to our man who was so deadly infront of goal, Chicharito. A well deserved award for the Mexican man!

We started off very slowly 2 draws and 2 defeats in our first 4 and pressure was on immediately. Took a lot of tinkering with the tactic but finally got something that worked. AND MY GOD has anyone else ever managed a side so full of whingers? I honestly had at one point 6 players in a row whinge about game time. It was so bad and annoying I am just gonna try sell them all off useless pricks.

http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd444/mrSPANKY26/table.jpg

Well as it turns out that poor start is pretty much what cost us the league in the end.

http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd444/mrSPANKY26/champs%20league.jpg

We came so fucking close to knocking off Madrid, bloody away goals. Would have had a very winnable tie against Lyon in the next round too.

http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd444/mrSPANKY26/dfb%20pokal.jpg

Had a very easy run in the cup apart from the Bayern game which took us to extra time with Hernandez bagging the winner off the bench.

http://i1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd444/mrSPANKY26/manager%20of%20the%20year.jpg

Won the manager of the year award.

Okay so points:

League Third = 15
German Cup Winners = 25
Champs league 1st Knockout Round = 5
Manager of the year = 5
Beat Bayern 3 times = 15
Beat Koln 1 time = 5
Beat BMG 1 time = 5

Total = 75

Kevin Volland hat-trick, @Shedender, another play I can't see to get to score that others can!

He's only scored five goals in the league for me pal, including that hat-trick. Don't know why they spent £14.5m on him for.

In the transfer market though I've allowed Benjamin Henrichs go out on loan to Swansea, Wendell has finally departed to Sunderland for £8m and I'm getting £10m for Lars Bender who hasn't really been featuring for me. Not bad.

I sold Wendell in the second summer to City for £20million, he was just one of a number of players to leave as we bought in £122million from selling players!

He didn't overly feature for me as I don't use full backs, I thought £8m at the time was decent enough.

The more the merrier tbh. You have until the 23rd July to complete two seasons.
Have you guys got entirely different starting XIs one season to the next?!

Not entirely, I think I only bought in 3 or 4 players second summer

Pssht, if we're talking legendary players my strike force is Eto'o and Berbatov

Hernandez broke his foot in the first game as I'm sure I mentioned before people think I'm really crazy

Second season Hernendez picked up a ligament injury which has ruled him out for 5-7 months for me. Luckily I picked up Balotelli on a free in the summer.

Balotelli is now on my shortlist, cheers

We should start a Susie on Tour WhatsApp group!

Dans Season 2

Transfers:
http://i.imgur.com/eqpd65x.png

Second window was mental, we managed to gain so much money through selling players on top of being given a very healthy transfer budget for the season as well. We ended up making £124million extra available after selling players, £60million of that came from Manchester City as they signed Wendell and Brandt. The other pricey deal saw Volland go to Dortmund for £24million. Incomings saw a free deal for Mario Balotelli from OGC Nice. We activated Inaki Williams release clause and stumped up the £43million for him from Bilbao. Nacho came in to replace Wendell, costing us £12million from Madrid. Jesse Lingard joined on a permanent deal following his loan last season and finally Mattia De Sciglio joined to sure up the defence from Milan, a good window.

http://i.imgur.com/mj1m4k3.png

Our league form was brilliant throughout the first half of the season we were almost unbeatable just dropping points on three occassions. Second half we were doing our upmost best to blow the league title wide open as we lost all consistency and slipped to way too many draws, we'll see how it panned out in a second but Points wise for fixtures we beat BMG twice, Bayern once and Koln once meaning we bag 20 points from fixtures in the league.

http://i.imgur.com/98yHLSp.png

And so whilst some people have managed to turn Leverkusen into a title winning side inside their first season, its taken me two seasons to do it but a first ever Bundesliga title was secured on the final day of the season in which we went into it a point clear of Bayern. It was a tight affair with us constantly drawing nearer the end of the season but we held on. 25 points for winning the league.

http://i.imgur.com/yoC29NV.png

League and Cup double and very lucky with this one as we managed to beat Dortmund in the Second round whilst Ingolstadt beat Bayern Munich which left us favorites to take the cup and we lived up to those expectations. A very nervy Semi Final against Hoffenheim which saw us needing extra time to secure our spot in the Final thanks to a Balottelli hatrick. Finally beating Hertha 1-0 in the Final taking another 25 points for the season.

http://i.imgur.com/OB9WwHe.png

Not quite the run we had last year to the Semi Finals. We faced a group stage consisting of Juventus, Basel and Besiktas and managed to pick up thirteen points in that and proved enough for second place. Chelsea were up next in the First Knockout Round here a two nil win at home proved vital as we lost two one away to advance. Another trip to England and London awaited as we faced Spurs, being a step too far this year though losing four one on aggregate. Another 10 points for the season.

http://i.imgur.com/Aj4dgol.png

Come the end of the season we picked up a few awards but only one that really counted towards the points for the season for a second year running.. Manager of the year bagging a final five points.

Season 2 points rundown:
League finish - 1st - 25 points
Cup - Winners - 25 points
Champions League - Quarter Finalist - 15 points
Beat Bayern - x1 - 5 points
Beat Koln - x1 - 5 points
Beat BMG - x2 - 10 points
Win manager of the year - 5 points

Season 1 Total - 70 points.
Season 2 Total - 90 points.
Tour Stop 2 total points: - 160 points.

Bob Beasley's first season at Leverkusen

So finally managed to finish my first season, the season went pretty well but never really had a chance in the league, Bayern Munchen was not losing many games.

Here is the final position in the league:

So i was off to Europe League and was knocked out by Southampton in the Semi Finals
http://i.imgur.com/UEHYNHi.jpg

The highlight of the season was winning the cup was pretty pissed off when i got Bayern in the 2nd round and first thing i thought "Well not going to win this competition". But managed to beat Bayern 2 - 1
http://i.imgur.com/9DVHJlz.jpg

I was named managed of the season after a pretty decent season.
http://i.imgur.com/Je6Youa.jpg

Thats about it

So my points goes like this:
Bundesliga: 2nd position - 15 points

I grabbed Balo as well, only scored 1 goal for me though.
Bloody hell @tongey and @Dan!! Great effort @Viktor Bragi Brynjarsson too.
Think I'll pick this up in the next few days.

Second season everything clicked for us @KEZ_7 although in the league it looked like we were going to bottle it. I think more people will outscore my 160 from this challenge though.

Season One:

http://i.imgur.com/CLR8Bmr.jpg

Had to wait until the January transfer window before I could even look at potential new signings and even then it was only signings who could potentially 'tie us over' until the end of the campaign and they all arrived on transfer deadline day. Ruben Loftus-Cheek arrived on loan from Premier League side Chelsea while another player joined us from the Premier League as Jesus Navas cost us £1.4m from Manchester City, the last signing saw Ganso join on loan from Sevilla. Benjamin Henrichs (loan), Wendell and Lars Bender all departed the BayArena in the January transfer window.

http://i.imgur.com/9tBPL5I.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/1VWfzyT.jpg

These are the results from the season just past and there was some disappointing results in there (e.g. losing away to Ingolstadt) but there was an excellent home success against the league's dominating force Bayern Munich which pleased me, even more so because we had to come from behind to do so. The German Cup was a forgettable experience this season while our Champions League run concluded with a first knockout round defeat to the Italian giants Juventus.

http://i.imgur.com/6Y6nDuu.jpg

We had to settle for a third place finish which was a little disappointing as I thought we were going to nick the runners-up spot.

http://i.imgur.com/LPCR2Hm.jpg

Javier Hernandez won German Footballer of the Year though.

Points:

Bundesliga: Third (top four) - 15 points
German Cup: Second Round exit - 0 points
Champions League: First Knockout Round - 5 points
Rivalries: Bayern x1 - 5 points, Koln x2 - 10 points, BMG x1 - 5 points
Bonus: Won German Football of the Year - 5 points

Total: 45 points.
Ouch, @Shedender ! I assume that's split on head to head difference then? Crazy for that to happen in an 18 team league. At least you've still got Champions League football next year. Can I ask what formation you use, hence getting rid of Wendell and Henrichs? How was Ganso too?

It must have been since I didn't manage to beat them in the league (lost 1-0 at home, drew 2-2 away) but it's frustrating so it is because I could've/should've gotten second place but c'est le vie. I've been playing with three at the back to moderate success but I'm tempted to try and bring in a left back (or two) and play four at the back.
@Dan , quick question - when facing one of your rivals in a cup game - does winning on penalties count for five points?
https://i.imgur.com/jkqweZW.png?1http://i.imgur.com/ZiZpv0k.png?1

Just to clarify, do cup games against the three rival teams count towards scoring or just league games?
SEASON 1 - WINTER BREAK

http://i.imgur.com/CB5afCn.png?1

Into the winter break...well we certainly need to have a re-think as it's all going pear shaped with five defeats in seven. Started off well by beating Gladbach and going on to win three of four, including a sensational second half comeback from 2-0 down at Schalke before a narrow defeat at the hands of Frankfurt. It kickstarted an eleven match unbeaten run before Dortmund put us in our place. Never in my wildest predictions would be topple the might of Bayern, and quite comfortably too! Relegation threats of Ingolstadt and Hamburg sure changed our tune with clumsy defeats. Not only that, Bremen got one over us too to well and truly put us in a disposition over the holiday season. Need to regroup and put an end to this rut.

http://i.imgur.com/xgv3RKr.png?1

Bayern are running away the Bundesliga as you'd expect and it's really now just the matter of scrapping for second and at very least a top four finish in a mixture of Gladbach, Schalke, RB Leipzig and Frankfurt. Fifth place currently, average season perhaps but I know we need to do a lot better come May.

http://i.imgur.com/Yb2bnnC.png?1

DFB Pokal has gone rather well as some would expect. Nearly choked to Unterhaching but two extra time goals from young Kai Havertz made the difference and avoid a shock exit. Penalties saw us defeat bitter rivals Gladbach in the second round, Leno saving three to advance 3-1 on penalties and face SV Darmstadt in the third round.

http://i.imgur.com/6OZvRTY.png?1

Champions League has been a huge surprise, qualifying second in a group with Barcelona, Spurs and Club Brugge. Dicked at the Nou Camp, followed up with a fortunate 2-1 win to Spurs, two routine Brugge wins and the pinnacle result was to withstand Barca's dominance to see us through with the final game being dead rubber.

http://i.imgur.com/acrujFK.png?1

Juventus will be our opposition, difficult to see us going any further to be honest.

Current Points:

Bundesliga - 5th = 10 points
DFB Pokal - Third Round = 5 points
Champions League - First Knockout Round = 5 points
Beat Bayern - (x1) = 5 points
Beat Koln - No = 0 points
Beat BMG - (x2) = 10 points

Total Points Forecast = 35 points

Unless @Dan says differently, it'll be any competitive victory against any of the three rival clubs.

So far this season I've beaten Gladbach, Koln and Bayern all at the BayArena.
http://i.imgur.com/wF8cyo3.jpg

Oh just fuck right off. Signed on 19/1/2018 for £2.1m, plays a mid-season friendly a day later and will remainder of the league campaign. Great business.
Decided to use the same manager profile as the Sunderland challenge

http://imgur.com/FIHgMHs

Had the same initial problems as everybody else in that it was impossible to sell anybody for a large enough sum to bring in reinforcements/improvements so saved all of my work in the transfer market until the January window with Wendell, Kampl and Bellerabi leaving for 20m, 15m and 15m respectively. This gave me enough cash to add some steel to my midfield bringing in Sven Bender and a high quality fullback in Sime Vrsaljko (initially though I overpaid here but he proved worth every penny.

Fixtures

http://imgur.com/6XNUA8i
http://imgur.com/JcN1KRy
http://imgur.com/bjGA3tA

Started the season well if you discount the 4-0 drubbing against Barcelona and the careless 3 points dropped at Freiburg, was worried that this was going to be a trend with silly points being thrown away against poor opposition but team meeting directly after this seemed to provide a morale boost that inspired a 30 game unbeaten run which unfortunately came to an abrupt halt with a 4-0 slapping by RBL the game before the biggest game of the season in the champions league.

Champions League
Managed to scrape through what i thought was a relatively tough group and was rather pleased to get a 2-2 draw with Barcelona, took a 3-0 lead against PSG only to throw it away and draw 3-3 before nicking a 3-2 in Paris. The draw was not overly kind to me lining up a difficult tie versus Bayern unfortunately we were found wanting and lost 1-0 on aggregate some sollace was taken from the fact that they went on to win the competition. This was an eye opener throughout showing that much more strength in depth will be required next season if we are going to make a real push for champions league glory.

German League
We successfully managed to break the curse and brought home the league title. Had a little wobble towards the end but managed to secure a 7 point cushion to Bayern through sheer consistancy.
http://imgur.com/88r0YxR

German Cup
Managed to complete the double gaining victories over Bayern, Bremen, RBL, Hoffenheim before finally beating Hertha in the final
