I've been watching a lot of Doug Stanhope recently, he's awesome. This isn't his stand-up but the video is excellent nonetheless.

Totally agree with you on Rich Pryor. A lot of the older comics are still some of my favourites. Robin Williams springs to mind (search Robin Williams sports on YouTube)

Out of the new stuff I really like Jimmy Carr and John Bishop. A lad that went to my old school, Chris Ramsey is a bit of up-and-coming talent, been on Celeb Juice a couple times and has a TV series called Hebburn coming soon.

Chris Ramsey is painfully unfunny. Literally just 'people from the north do x, people from the south do y'.

Stanhope is in an absolutely brilliant episode of Louie. You should watch it.

On that note, Louis CK is awesome. Never actually watched Louie though.

It's brilliant. First season has its ups and downs, but season 2 and 3 are absolutely fantastic.
If you expect a straight comedy show you'll be disappointed though.

The impression I got was that it's like a darker version of Curb. Which sounds awesome.

It's really like a series of shortfilms that don't necessarily have anything to do with each other except for recurring characters and themes (and even then, CK says he doesn't give a shit about continuity and just drops characters and erases them from the shows history if he needs to for an episode)

Mixture of ultimate reality and absurdity. I love it.

What I love about the ones I have seen so far is all the guests in it. Ricky Gervais, Chelsea Perretti, Nick DiPaolo and others

I know his smug, condescending nature turns many people off, but I am a fan of Stewart Lee. I think he's very funny, though comes across as a male Poly Toynbee, which is something of a shame.

What he does is pretty clever, but he does it like a cunt so I find it impossible to like him.

You've sort of fallen into his trap, he doesn't mind being hated. I guess he's similar to Jeremy Clarkson, in that I hate him, but I have to admire the way he manages to put out his views, or exaggerations of his views, and generate a response that ultimately benefits him financially next time he puts out a new book or appears in a TV show.
