We shall see.

I'm going to review them on base categories, story, villains, whores, vehicles, action, comedy, title theme.

Then at the end I'll list the best Bonds in order and my top five films.

Dr No

It starts so damn well, the Bond song and a jazzy introduction, an interesting murder, one of the greatest introductions to a character ever (that scene in the casino, Bond... James Bond) before slowly tailing out into silly sci-fi world domination secret hideout territory. That would be all fine if the film wasn't set up to be one thing before becoming all bombast towards the end. It would also help if the villian, Dr No, was actually worth caring about. But since we meet him with about twenty minutes of the film left to play he seems pretty irrelevant. He does have one decent conversation with Bond before becoming a glorified IT rep with designs on world domination. Oh... he has metal hands, but aside from that he's pretty dull. The absence of a constant threat in this film makes Bond seem irrelevant too. Unless I can constantly feel the turning of the screw it seems odd to make Bond feel under pressure.

The plot is pretty boring, weird cunt wants to blow up NASA rockets, but it has most of the ingredients that make it a serviceable Bond film. There's the odd but riveting spider kill attempt, a top five Bond slut in Ursula Andress (although a lot of the birds in this are quite ropey), some very casual one-liners, but all of it is held together by Connery who oozes class, seems hard as fuck but never lets it show. I think it's summed up by him wandering around Jamaica during midday in the blazing sun while wearing a grey suit, without sweating.

I enjoyed Dr No because it's always nice to see where the elements of Bond originate from, but it's pretty light on thrills or spectacle, albeit understandable. I checked the wikipedia page and apparently the budget for the film was pretty tiny, so that explains the lack of bombast in the picture, but overall it's a pretty run of the mill affair that is fairly watchable.

Keep your eyes open for Blofelds appearances in several Bond films. And keep Dr. Evil in mind when doing so

I've seen them all before, except for On Her Majesty's Secret Service (if we're talking canon) and Never Say Never Again.

Tough call between Goldfinger and Goldeneye being my favorite Bond movies. Both are instantly recognizable, and just have a certain charm about them that I like.

I was reading the wikipedia earlier, apparently ITV's deal expired this October and now Sky Movies owns it exclusively, as ITV previously did. But with them actually having a 007 channel, is it safe to assume that for the length of them having this deal one will always be able to access Bond on demand?

One thing i love about Dr. No and most Bonds is some of the set design by Ken Adam, really excellent stuff. Got to say though the books are still better than the movies.

All about the Goldeneye.

Was certainly my favorite when I was younger. Anyone else remember when ITV used to run through all the films now and then? I think it was always a Wednesday night and maybe another on the Saturday.

Weird you should be doing this as just the other day i had an idea of downloading all the Bond films. Well all the older ones anyway as not much of a fan of Daniel Craig, Roger Moore is by far my favourite.

I like Daniel Craig. I absolutely adore Casino Royale, and despite Solace being a mess he still does a good job. I have high hopes for Skyfall, think its got all the elements to be a really good Bond film.

How can anyone seriously have Roger Moore as their favourite Bond? Serious question.
My dad does too, and I can't fucking fathom how. He's horrible, and pretty much all of his films are godawful.

From Russia With Love

From start to finish this is a film which knows exactly what it is trying to do. Virtually perfect in setting the standard for the rest of the series it already makes up for the error of the previous film: not physically introducing the villain(s) early on. Blofeld's looming spectre (get it), Rosa Klebb's shoe wielding nutter and Red Grant's Aryan terminator.

You can certainly get a feel that the success of the previous film meant that more money allowed more freedom. The filming in Turkey is really well done and it feels extremely similar, at times a homage, to other great journey films like North by Northwest and The 39 Steps. That's no bad thing, there's certainly a lot more going on in this Bond as he meanders from one set piece to the next, each one particularly engaging and each time Connery seems more and more assured in the role. He fits it so well and with such a great story behind him, surrounding by great characters, he and the character start to shine.

As far as sluts go, well Tatiana is a pretty decent slag, nothing special to look at but she has a good amount of chemistry with Bond. She's resilient and worth a punt.

A poor debut, in my opinion, for opening song. There are far better numbers and I always feel like, for the most part, opening songs which have the title as the first line are usually poor ones. From Russia With Love doesn't sound great, but at least it started.

As a whole the film is terrific, from the opening cat and mouse in the garden right the way through to the epic train fight (where the classic bond fighting move grab-thing-above-you-and-double-kick was first showcased) to Rosa Klebb going shit mental with her shoe while dressed as a maid, it has a very clear idea of where it is going and is carried supremely well by Connery, who is the driving force all the way. As far as Bond films go it's up there with the greats because it's still about him and what he does.

Funnily enough, I'm getting a box set off my mate of all the James Bond films and I was planning on rattling through them all. I've only seen a handful but I'm looking forward to seeing them all.
