What the fuck was all that shite on Twitter last night with Andre Gray?

It appears the internet found his 2011/12 Tweets. Its worth noting there's even more alongside the one that has caught most people's attention.

I never saw the game but about 20 of those will have been Coutinho no doubt

He was responsible for a fair number of the ones selected by Match of the Day. The defending on both Burnley goals was pretty abject, mind, even if they were excellent finishes.

Thats a slightly misleading stat just because of how early they scored, also pretty much all our shots were outside of the box.

Blimey - 25 out of 26, according to one graphic I spied on Twitter.

Maybe Hull only need 13 fit players and a caretaker manager after all.
Ah thats the Liverpool we know and love, beat Arsenal one week, then lose to Burnley the next. We've been dreadful

Not only that but to a Burnley side who only had 3 shots in the entire game compared to Liverpool's 26.

I know there's been an alteration to the penalty box grappling rules but Sterling on Shawcross there seemed a bit soft. Then again, Stoke should really have been given a penalty when Kolarov bulldozed Joe Allen, so I guess it works out... maybe?

Because while he's a complete misfit for Liverpool he's exactly the kind of striker Palace have been looking for, and has been discussed here before, £28m isn't what it was as recently as last year.

I really should stop getting a bit bewildered by the worth of transfers for BPL clubs given that bottom this year earns the same as what the PL champions got last season. But even so, its a proper cash orgy. In 2010, when Palace nearly went under, their total debt was just over £30million - since rescuing the club and getting a bargain basement team scraping into the PL, those new owners have hit the fucking jackpot. Same with Bournemouth.

That initial bid, if true, is pretty delusional thinking, mind.

Meanwhile, Sunderland have signed Pienaar - who I thought had retired - while Kaboul is likely to join Watford, as is Roberto Pereyra. Lescott has turned down Rangers... must be content to stay in Villa's reserves.

How on Earth have Liverpool managed to get their money back for him?

Unfortunately Dundalk suffered a 2-0 defeat at "home" to Legia - it's virtually impossible to see them qualifying for the CL GS.

Shame, but tbf, this is the point where losers drop to the Europa League. Someone mentioned they'd get over £4million for reaching those - way more than what their league pays out in championship fees. So still a hell of a windfall relatively anyway.

EDIT: NVM it was said the £4M figure is what they've earned so far.

Well, we needed the baby steps of a first win, and a 3 goal margin too (if, by sounds, a bit generous on us). I'll take that nicely.
And then just to add to insult, he was dismissed in stoppage time. Oh well, at least it'll end his (own goal) scoring streak.

Yeah... one way to celebrate turning down a new deal or impress the Premier League/SPL-team scouts that were apparently there to watch him. I like the fact his 3 own goals means he's now technically one of the division's top scorers.

No chance, there's some serious dross in this division (my team probably being the best example).

I'm sure you'll win tonight and will be up near the top in no time.

Shane Duffy scoring 3 own goals in less than 2 matches indicates something towards the utter dross currently masquerading in Blackburn colours.

Incidentally, another forum I frequent mentioned leaked documents into some of the utter fuck-ups being done by Venky's. Hear anything about this?

There is such a concept as disappointment relative to each individual situation. The one in 2014, when we fell over the line with 7 losses in 8 and players seemed to visibly give up when Cabaye left, is different to the one we're in now, and it was right at the time to wonder what direction the club really was going after that rather disjointed campaign. But at least we did get an answer to what direction that was - further off the cliff.

I mean, 19 defeats and near relegation in 2012/13 & 2014/15 means I don't really look on either campaign fondly, and 2013/14 was simply bizarre. But we lost half our PL games in 2012-16. Regardless of the odd win streak, there's a losing culture that seems to transcend entire squads and management teams, and clearly, fixing it is going to require something substantial. Maybe expunging the squad had looked an answer, but its obviously created a new one. But we're hardly doomed to having "the worst midfield in the division", or at a point when we should be entertaining the idiots that think Ian Holloway should be made manager immediately.
Great point tonight. Lucky not to be out of sight at half-time as Villa came out of the blocks and gave us a battering. Slightly fortuitous goal, but nothing more than they deserved. We really weren't at the races in the first half, but in the second half we came into it more and after an hour it became one-way traffic. Again, a slightly fortuitous goal - Hefele charging down their keeper's clearance - but thoroughly deserved. We looked much fitter than they did, and simply overpowered them in the last half-hour. One of those games where you just feel that had there been five more minutes a winner was inevitable, but not to be. Still felt like a win.

Villa looked good, to be honest, and I may be proven very wrong by them. They looked a promotion side in that first half and it was only fitness which let them down. That and indiscipline, as when we got on top they reacted quite badly, committing a number of cynical fouls. I thought at the time that Tshibola was booked for a foul by Bacuna, who later got booked, but as it hasn't come up in post-match debate I assume my impression was wrong.

I saw that Hefele equaliser. Its always something to see a goal as a result of a keeper whacking a clearance off an onrushing striker, even if nothing quite as bizarre as the time a Watford keeper whacked one into Chris Wood's face and it went in.

None of the new NUFC signings have been publicly spending the best part of the last 20 months saying they're a Champions League player at a club too small for them and issuing "come and get me" pleas to bigger clubs that don't want them, though. How is that not thinking way too highly of yourself?

Its moot, anyway - at this rate, he's probably not going to move. If he is picked and duly delivers, we can probably move to some sort of less poisonous truce, but its hardly going well though.

I love how fans of all teams are falling over themselves to send Palace their rejects.

'They can have Benteke.'

'No. They can have Young.'

'No. They can have Sissoko.'

Somebody has to.

Although for now they've denied that and moved on to 2/3 other teams (Everton was linked this morning).

Most from the North East have been really balanced. Less balanced have been the national reports which have focused on Newcastle losing rather than us winning. The Channel 5 thing was the worst - only Curbishley even trying to give us any credit for silencing the crowd and having a game plan. I don't expect fans to be that balanced (because I can hardly comment, partisan as I am), but a bit of balance from the media would be quite nice. Yep, Newcastle were crap for the second week running, but that was often down to how well we (and Fulham last week) played.

I think its going to be a recurrent problem as, by reputation, management or bookie favouritism, Newcastle have been cast as the pond's big fish, or at least one of them. Sort of how Manchester United or City coverage is almost always about them, or in La Liga, where Barcelona/Real Madrid defeats are more about their shortcomings than the other team being any good.

I'm not sure Fulham weren't that good, tbf. Their game plan was one of those "let the other team have possession domination", similar to how Leicester played in the first half of last season.
Also cricitising Sissoko for wanting away, hope we never play Ritchie, Hanley, Clark, Diame ever again. Scum, for walking out on there clubs.

What a load of utter drivel.

I saw it last week and tbh I was closer to the review rinsing. Had good moments, and I don't think it was appalling as others have, but it felt to me like it was edited together from 2, maybe even 3, different films, and was an utter mess to watch. Crap main villain that sort of just danced a bit didn't help.

The negative reviews from Cardiff City fans (more or less overwhelmingly so) from his loan last season hints Sammy Ameobi is not the answer. Seemed to miss more sitters than get assists or goals. And he was hardly that great a crosser for us anyway. And I've said they lack wingers, but better is out there, assuming someone gets off their arse and nabs it.

Sissoko the player on his day, I would be ok with. Sissoko the narcissist, who seems to put more effort into his "I want to leave" interviews, and spends more games doing fuck all, is an issue. His attitude has been a joke for long before now, and he is begging to be rewarded with a spell in the reserves, or at least stuck in the 2nd tier months after playing in the Euros final. Which, to him, is probably the same.

I'm not really decided on Shelvey - started well, then blended in with everyone else in last year's sea of mediocrity/rubbish very quickly. Also plays deeper than perhaps necessary, like Cabaye did for a while in 2012/13. Seems to have both praisers and detractors in equal measure. Bit of a weird one. Maybe some use can be found.

I'm not convinced Sissoko is the answer. The narcissistic tit doesn't want to play for the club, and will in most likelihood continue being a dead weight, as he was until Benitez made him captain. Even if he might play on Wednesday, judging by a post-match interview. I'm also not convinced Colback is an answer either, given his awful opening day performance and routine lack of creativity. Tiote, who knows. He may not even leave, so if not, there's no reason for him not to return, even if Hayden so far reads as a reasonable DM. So... him, maybe. Although Championship refs don't seem bothered about giving as many fouls as Prem ones, which might help.

I've only seen highlights and read reports, but it read to me like we're still playing almost within ourselves, and it could've been similar to any of the performances since 2012/13. Hardly a great omen. Like then, I don't think there's enough assertion going on during games, and there's certainly not enough creativity or accurate shooting. Hence the continuation of the thought we need additional widemen, or possibly to be a bit more unrestrained. Forestieri might be good, but I wouldn't have said priority acquisition.

It may not help either that there has to be a higher player turnover than last time in any case, such has been the different transfer window trends in the years before the '09 demotion and May's one, or the fact that back then, the manager was more or less bulldozed into his thinking by the likes of Nolan and Barton. Least that's the interpretation, although it worked and was effective. Maybe the Orient 6-1 was that slap in the face, while the players who stayed still need a very hard slap in the face - preferably literal in certain cases.

At least there's still to put some of this right. Hell, if the Mackems can go from bottom in August 2006 to the top of the table at the campaign's end, then its hardly out of the question. But there's only so many episodes like this that can be taken I guess.

18. Swansea
19. Burnley
20. Hull

Not convinced enough by Arsenal or Spurs' back-up options, but am by Conte and Klopp. It'll be close between them for top 4 though - maybe even final day. Swansea I feel have let go of everyone too quickly.

Am actually a little more worried about this than I probably should be. Long term it should be in a midfield three with Carrick (or more likely Carrick's replacement) behind him and Schneiderlin or Herrera next to him. Short term it will be in the two of a 4-2-3-1 until Mourinho fucks Rooney off which is a huge waste of his ability.

I just hope Mourinho has the balls to do to Rooney what he deserves, and that he does it quickly enough it doesn't de-rail our season.

A few have said that 4-2-3-1 is not the best use of his abilities. Certainly, he didn't look entirely good in a deeper role at the Euro's, although I'd imagine he'd be better fit in the middle of the 3 behind a striker.

I really don't know why MUFC are still pretending Rooney's any good. But he'll probably still be there against Bournemouth on Sunday, given Pogba didn't have a pre-season.
