Paul Lambert is very underrated - worked wonders in the lower leagues, took Norwich up two tiers in consecutive seasons.

Tasked with cutting down the wage bill of a rubbish Villa side. Obviously made mistakes but at least kept them up and relatively safe.

We've been linked with Ayoze Perez today

Can't say he'd be my first choice, but what do the Newcastle fans think? Got enough talent to make it for us?

Nah, not really. He's good, but he's not that good.

He's not really a striker, a winger or an attacking midfielder as well.

Ridiculous but Monk is a wank. And seemed to undermine Laudrup.

Looks like fantastic well run club Swansea are heading towards their second relegation battle in three years.

I know very little about Pato - but he seemed to be trying to link himself with Sunderland in the Summer. I'd be wary.

Newcastle were absolutely awful today - Colo, Tiote and Elliot the only players to emerge with any sort of credit. I also thought Bournemouth were pretty bad as well but still comfortably the better team.

England squads are always picked arbitrarily - how else can you explain why Tom Cleverley or Tom Huddlestone has so many callups but Jack Cork or Jack Colback doesn't.

And a Spurs fan moaning - Spurs are the worst offenders for geting all of their English players immediately capped by England. Admittedly Danny Rose maybe deserves a bit more international credit. - But Dier, Mason, Alli, Livermore all called up very early.

A bad 24 hours at Man Utd - First van Gaal disrespects Chris Smalling and now Roy Keane saying racial slurs. Vile club.

Think Norwich and Bournemouth look certainties. - Norwich look like they can't defend which will be a big problem. Sunderland and Villa always survive so I wouldn't be assuming anything just yet. fwiw I think Villa have been a bit unlucky - they seem to lose by the odd goal every week - but that can be a dangerous habit.

Think Swansea might drop in as major contenders soon - they're out of the moment and have a tiny squad.

I'm sure Villa will see some improvement in the new man - but I can't help but think what do they expect? - they've lost Delph, Benteke, Vlaar and Cleverley and have replaced them with unproven players

btw Sunderland have had most of their 'easier' games

Southampton, Palace, Stoke, Arsenal, Watford, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool. - If they get 8 points out of that they'll have 14 points - At the half way stage. They'll have a lot of hard work to do in the second half of the season.

Sunderlands comeback went a bit tits up didn't it?

Been checking BBC's text updates, I saw they had just made it 2-2, checked five minutes later and they are 5-2 down.

Sunderland had everyone back - Everton got over indulgent and allowed Sunderland to get space on the break.

Sunderland then actually attacked Everton - which left Coates and Brown horrendously exposed defending on the half way line - against guys who can run.

Love strikers crossing - they're always better at crossing than actual wingers.

Martinez must be on his way soon. Really awful.

The absolute complacency Everton have shown. They'be been so self indulgent in their passing.

In fairness they looked sharp in the early minutes.

They're traditional reaction to winning the derby, is for them all to be on the piss and lose the next 12.

Newcastle v Stoke was an excellent game I though, Newcastle's best performance of the season, should have finished about 4-3 to Newcastle.

Thought Anita was fantastic, and Tiote actually looked like a footballer. Rob Elliot must be one of the most underrated players in the League. He gets loads of shit but he's a pretty decent keeper. Bojan, Shakiri and Arnautovic were good to watch but didn't have much to show for their nice football.

Think Wijnaldum and Sissoko really need to do more though, they're far too uninvolved for much of the game.

And Butland was incredible. Joe Hart should actually have competition in the near future.

Good to see the backlash on the 'communication'.

Don't know why clubs force managers to do post match emails - it's always gonna be used as a stick to beat them with.

Is Martial on the wing that much of an issue? He's still good there. Isn't the far bigger issue the reluctance to play Herrera and Schneiderlin?

He gave away a penalty on Wednesday and I don't recall that happening. But the reason you're seeing a lot of praise for him is he's playing really, really, well, scoring goals, and beating players for fun.

You're acting like its all a big conspiracy to trick the footballing world into thinking that he's good when he's actually been shite, but its simply that he's been really good. The second he stops being very good you'll stop hearing the praised.

In fairness you all pretended Depay was great for a few weeks. Martial is the player you pretended Depay was. Martial is fucking great though. Remember the Martial v Origi comparisons?

Excited for Kane to beat him in all of the awards for the next ten years.

Didn't think Cattermole on Wijnaldum was a penalty in a million years. Although he did TAKE HIM OUT and handball it. Also some absolutely heroic how Lee Cattermole can go in two footed and injure someone and Quinny to congratulate him for his bravery. Tiote and Colback however booked for one foul between them.

Ah well Sunderland can enjoy the three points. They'll have a smile on their face when insulting the MH17 victims.

Yeah, and you'll see that in every football game. It's up their with a bit of blocking/holding at a corner. Or obstructing the opposition player to allow the ball to run out of play.

Absolutely awful refereeing again.

Newcastle haven't been awarded a penalty since 2013.*

*We got a sympathy penalty against Man Utd last year at 3-0 down, to make up for not getting a stonewall one at 0-0.
