That Southampton team looks a bit defensive. 5 at the back and two holding midfielders?

Pelle, Mane and Steve Davis as the entire offensive end?

I'd prefer they bought someone than didn't.

Good to seen top defender and international man of mystery Mapou Yangs-Mbiwa give away a goal 7 minutes into his Lyon debut. In his defence Fournier is shite and it's an unfamiliar league.

Anyway I reckon Lacazette will be keen to come. Yanga will tell him we'll not boo him regardless of how shite he plays because he was expensive.

Or more importantly, what's so bad about gesturing for it rather than just saying it to the referee?

It's disgusting and foreign.

I prefer my heroes like Leighton Baines valiantly running 70 yards to make suggestions to our referees. It's what Thatcher would have wanted

Garry Monk not mentioning that Sunderland should have had a penalty then? Very quiet on that one. Did the referee not get that one spot on? Did Monk not send Swansea to handball Rodwell out of the game?

Nah, instead focused on how playing a shite Sunderland team is the hardest challenge in the League.

It's not a criticism of Depay.

He's just seems to be anointed Man Utd's best player and one of the stars of the PL, when at the minute he just doesn't look that good. Not a lot of players are at 21.

We did, yeah.

Still had at least 6 very, very good chance including that incorrectly disallowed goal. I don't think we were brilliant, but on another day we'd have won comfortably. It happens.

Also going by how much Poe moans about him Coloccini had a very out of character stormer.

I'm struggling to think of 6 chances

Thought Man Utd played alright, but can't really do much against a well organised defence with numbers. Fellaini probably could have made a big difference. Depay seems massively overhyped, Mata, Rooney and Scweinsteiger look old, and I really don't see what anyone sees in Januzaj.

Thought Newcastle got them self sorted after a horrible start and hopefully will be a big boost. It feel like that performance will be more important than the point. Hopefully.

I mean steady as in literally steady. As in he doesn't do daft things very often.

Bit ironic how Mbemba was by far Newcastle's worst defender today.

Massive difference when the midfield plays well, and Tim Krul actually plays like he can, rather than as a lanky disaster.

CONTROVERSIAL OPINION.

But actually reckon Williamson-Mbemba might be Newcastle's best defence.

Colo-Mbemba - A bit short
Mbemba-Taylor - Mbemba seems quite combatitive - wouldn't like to see Taylor's calming influence on that.
ergo Williamson-Mbemba - Let Mbemba do his stuff - While Williamson acts as a steady pair of hands behind him.

The CB equivalent of Emre-Faye

Yeah, but we should be moving forward, not continually selling players and replacing them. Wijnaldum isn't a Sissoko replacement, he's a completely different player and adds more quality to a squad which was awful last year.

Buy players to add to the squad and strengthen it.

I hate the whole we need to sell Williamson before buying another centre back carry on too - just don't register him? He's clearly not good enough for the Premier League so why do we NEED to register him if he's here?

And we haven't sold him. And yeah Newcastle have bought four players at immense cost this summer. They've only lost one of note, who did very little last season.

That Williamson think either looks completely wrong. Or Charnley and Carr are trying to pressure him into moving more.

I've done the sums. - Abdennour - £15m transfer fee, £50kpw - 5 year deal = £12.5m, Misc. costs £2.5m = £30m transfer overall

Williamson - Transfer fee £1m, £30k?p/w q year deal = £1.5m = £2.5m

Newcastle only willing to spend £30m if they can raise £2.5m? Bullshit imo.

Yanga-Mbiwa left in August. ffs. And Santon still played a grand total of 0 minutes.

And yeah Charnley + Carr clearly got it totally wrong in their post-Pardew running of the club. But Newcastle were in midtable when Santon left with 30 points. The club would literally need to grind out 6 points from 15 games to stay up. It would be actually mental and relegation was pretty much unforseeable at that point.

On the subject of Sissoko being 'replaced' - Does Wijnaldum not exist then. Everyone was very upset at 'Cashley' who was only signing Wijnaldum so he could 'CASH IN' on Sissoko. Who I believe was signing for Liverpool that week.

Tbf we beat them 2-0 a few year ago with less.

I think we could do with a DM but in terms of AMC's we're fine.

Not that possession means anything, or signing different midfielders would change anything.

Aye. Being unable to pass, run or tackle is fine. Letting Cork, Sigurdsson and Shelvey run the game for 90 minutes is great. Can't believe Newcastle conceded two goals after being penned in for 90 minutes.

I just watched Fabianski, Williams, Taylor, Naughton and Fernandez and I literally couldn't say anything about their performance. They had nothing to do. They could all be terrible and we still wouldn't know because we got nowhere near them.

Haven't seen Mitrovic's yellow as MOTD cut it (who knows why).

In terms of yesterday, its too easy to slag off Janmaat for his performance, but he was shite even before his idiotic dismissal. No out-and-out back-up/competition in that position is clearly going to be a problem. I only saw the first 50 or so minutes (browser problems made it barely watchable) but also agreed the midfield didn't function properly at any point, and it sounded even more disjointed when Sissoko limped off, while I don't know if Wijnaldum and Anita actually did anything. The stats show we only had a third of possession in the entire game and managed 4 shots all game, and clearly we don't have the players to do anything productive with that.

Obviously still 36 games to go, but bit worrying the away day malaise and ill discipline from the last year and a half hasn't subsided yet.

Sunderland is a weird one. They've signed 5 players this summer (well, four + Coates) on big wages and a couple of big fees but arguably needed to sign a whole new squad, and I think Dick Advocaat wanted substantially more than what he's got. God knows they've still got some colossal duffers, especially in defence.

The weird thing is how many of their fans already seem resigned to being relegated, based on both these two games and an appalling pre-season.

Suspect Mbemba will go to RB. Might work while he gets to grips with the League. Personally I would be tempted to shove Anita to RB and hope to God the club actually sign a DM or get Tiote fit.

I don't know what was upto the midfield - Anita seemed too deep, Wijnaldum too far forward, Colback chasing. Never seemed to hold possession.

Sunderland have the same problem as Newcastle fans. Completely hate Wes Brown and O'Shea and the manager because they played. And they haven't really adressed the root causes.

Mike Jones has always given weird decisions since Sissoko hit him in the face. He gave weird decisions before that as well mind.

Always reckons teams who play 'nice football' get more favourable refereeing. Coyle's Bolton and Di Matteo's West Brom spring to mind.

Haha yeah, because he is totally going to talk about how his own players could've been sent off Also I don't see how Monk is, in your eyes, lucky. I'd say he is doing a decent job. Maybe you're just bitter, I don't know.

Yeah that's my point. Don't. Best not to claim other teams try to kick you off the park, because it makes you look like an arrogant prick. Especially when that would mean Monk would have to take responsibility for Montero diving, Gomis studding Haidara, Taylor scissor tackling Mitrovic and Naughton kicking the ball away. The ref's decision to ignore these incidents were presumably 'spot on'. I say ignore he booked Mitrovic for getting scythed down, and also give him a stern talking to when Cork fouled him....

Can't stand his grovelling. He's absolutely spineless, the luckiest manager I've ever seen.

Congratulating the referee for his excellent performance in assisting Swansea. Hope him and Mike Jones go out for drink after the game. Top pals. He left out how Montero, Naughton, Gomis and Taylor could have been sent off in his review of Mike Jones' performance.

Sunderland have already spent quite a bit though.

Fletcher, Defoe, Rodwell, Cattermole, M'Vila, Lens, Johnson, Giaccherini and possibly Alvarez too. All expensive signings.
