Simon Jones is possibly a sociopath. Seems to have no logic behind his decision making.

Janmaat was shite, but I thought the midfield three just didn't work today. Wijnaldum was anonymous, Anita seemed not to do anything overly productive, and Colback seemed to be just running. Hopefully they gel, as with Mbemba and Colo.

Another 3 quality signings still needed Mr Ashley/Charnley

3 in just isn't enough.

All of them right backs please.

I don't really think Sissoko is too different on the right or the centre tbh, just loving the complete 180.

Also disgusting too see McClaren blaming the fans. It's not my fault Steve, stop blaming me for your 0% win record.

Shola's going to be fuming.

I'm not particulary pro-Williamson. He's just a very easy scapegoat, by people too stupid to understand a simple game. He's been fucking miles better than most CB's I've endured. Martin Demichellis would be a good comparison imo.

If Newcastle end the summer with Taylor/Mbemba/Colo/Another good CB I'll be happy. Although history suggests they'll sell Williamson for £400k and buy some 5'7 jabroni who won't get a look in for £6m.

And Wiliamson has been available all summer. People just love to moan about how he'll be the first name on the teamsheet.

I don't think we defended awfully and it was certainly much better than last year but the two goals weren't exactly superb play or super dangerous crosses from Southampton.

Pelle is rather hard to mark at the best of times so letting him drift into the half space between the full back and centre back is never gonna be a good idea.

If we got a left back in with the quality of Janmaat and another CB to cover when Colo/Mbemba are injured I'd be confident of that.

You really hate any perceived criticism of Pardew don't you

For the record, Mapou is obviously no world-beater but he's a good defender and going from the second best team in Italy to the second best team in France suggests he's more than good enough for a team who only escaped relegation on the final day of last season. I'm actually surprised he's leaving, especially with Romagnoli off to Milan (who I'd much prefer to keep instead of Mapou). Pretty short at CB now.

We sold Boumsong to the best team in Italy who was then sold to the best team in France. And we finished higher last year, then we did when we had Yanga

And I don't overly dislike the guy, I'm just incredibly bored of the cult of Yanga-Mbiwa that only exists in Newcastle. From what I've read he's had an average at best year in Italy, and that he's not as good as Davide Astori. I've seen him drop two clangers in pre-season ffs.

However in Newcastle he had a great season, Bayern would have won 15-0 without him, and Leandro Castan is fully fit, just not selected.

Even better when Walters outscores them all...combined

Anyway Roma selling world class defender Mapou Yana-Mbiwa. Shame he got Garcia'd. He'll look good as soon as he gets a better manager.

I do think Mitrovic needs time to adjust, but this was a pretty anonymous debut after his ridiculous kicking. Also wasn't convinced by Tiote or Coloccini, although neither have really had a pre-season.

Do think a new forward wouldn't be the worst idea, but Shane Long is not someone I'm always convinced by, and would probably be a club record fee. Although presumably if we signed him it would stop him fecking scoring against us. I do think we need a new defender or two, although Mbemba had an excellent debut.

tbh I thought Southampton would sell Long this summer, now that Rodriguez is back - Obviously they might not want to sell. But if he's available for £10m, might be a better bet than Austin.

On another note - People are still obsessed with our defence, but on the whole Newcastle probably defended better than Southampton. A side that was built on extremely solid defending last year. Admittedly missing Bertrand and Clasie.

Hilarious how fans on twitter seem to be slating Haidara's first touch and insisting Sissoko should only play on the wing.

Newcastle game was entertaining. 2-2 seemed fair - we looked better first half, but they were better in the second. Also not convinced by Haidara defensively, and the team shape seemed better with Anita than with Tiote. Also impressive that Mitrovic's first action was a heavy duty challenge on a player coming back from a long-term injury.

Reece Oxford sounded like had an awesome game. Arsenal, less so.

Draw seems a fair enough result.

I though Haidara actually really improved in the second half, looked genuinely good, and had Tadic in his pocket. Wijnaldum looked good, Mbemba looked incredible. and overall it was a good performance.

McClaren seemed incredibly lucky mind, his subs were woeful and Mitrovic looked a donkey.

It's great saying how you love to kick defenders, but its no good kicking a full back and nearly getting yourself sent off, and then not winning a first ball, and being in Fonte's pocket.

If Newcastle still have money to spend. Think Shane Long should maybe be the one to go for.

Obertan - Still great!!!!

Argentina are always weird as fuck with goalkeeper's though. Ustari was quite close to going in 2014 despite being Sunderland's 3rd choice, behind Westwood and Mannone.

I think at the time Caballero was playing for Malaga in the knockouts of the CL.

Watching it on catchup now and I have to agree it's bloody awful. Only Channel five could make a footy highlights show so bad.

I like it. I've long said the football needs to FEEL like a Big Brother eviction night.

On the bright said that female presenter looked like the first girl the crowd had ever spoke to, so that's a positive. You used to have to build a robot to talk to a girl.

Newcastle in meltdown after losing a half paced game against Gladbach. Favourite tweet is that Southampton have scored more goals in pre-season ffs.

I don't see not. We were thereabouts when Pardew left and the season before.

Last season's top 7,8 and 9 look to have gone backwards. If we're not up there next season. Then chances are someone has done badly.

And regarding Williamson - he will probably start as Newcastle's 4th choice CB.

Our 'rivals' 4th choice CB - Muniesa, Gardos, Bartley, Yoshida, Collins, Olsson, Wasileske, Delaney, Senderos, N/A.

The N/A is Everton as they've only got 2 first team CB's as of now.

If Mbemba is half as good as promised. The defence will have improved dramatically.
