Williamson's passing % isn't exactly bad. It's somewhere in the middle. Even though its a pretty meaningless stat.

The reason Newcastle concede far too many goals, is because the team are far too prone to just stop playing when it gets tough. turning 1-0 defeats into 3 and 4-0 defeats a lot. How many times do Newcastle get players sent off when they're losing for some stupid reason?

Anyway, I don't think I've seen anyone ever sign for Newcastle who has a better write up than Mbemba. Which pretty much guarantees he will be shite.

It's just that we had severe constraints on our spending from 2006-2013, something Mourinho has never had to worry about. All of our funds are self-generated too, unlike Mourinho when he made Chelsea title contenders/winners. We're now in a position where we can spend around 60-70m a year without any detriment to the club or the clubs future. We have around 200m in cash reserves and we'd have to spend something ridiculous like 300m in one season to break FFP.

Arsenal didn't have to do this. I'm amazed that the Arsenal board got away with it.

Also Williamson 'hoofs it long' - Do people honestly think that it's his fault? That's clealy the fault of the midfield for chronically underperforming. It's the midfields job to take the ball of the defence ffs.

Williamson isn't PL quality? Did you not watch Newcastle in the championship? He was miles better than all of the opposition.

Good to know Veltman and Van Dijk are guaranteed hits, whereas Mbemba isn't? Van Dijk must have really impressed you in Celtic's CL defeats at the hands of Legia and Maribor.

Weird the absolute obsession most people have over Williamson. Colback, Perez, Janmaat, Cisse & Dummett maybe the only footballers Newcastle had who had better seasons than Williamson last year.

I also love the not boring not 'Premier League quality' moniker. Newcastle conceded about 7 goals all season in the Championship with Kadar, Hall and super Zube.

A lot of people seem to be forgetting Newcastle were comfortably midtable last year until John Carver happened... and almost the same team that comfortably finished top 10 the previous year.

Either Pardew is a great manager who coached these losers fantastically, or the squad isn't that bad.

Yeah a proper winger should be nice too.

Wijnaldum,, Colback, Tiote, Sissoko and De Jong is a lot of central players. So imo Sissoko will start on one wing - therefore it will be vital to have some width and I think Obertan and Aarons are the only natural wingers we have on the books. Marveaux, Cabella, Perez, Gouffran etc. may not provide enough width

Depends by and large on who we keep and that certain players return to form and fitness - For example Elliott, Taylor, Dummett, Haidara, Tiote, De Jong, Bigi, Aarons & Cisse were barely on the field post Pardew, add to that Krul and Sissoko badly out of form, and the returning Marveaux, Lascellas and Darlow and suddenly the squad looks a lot brighter. I assumed at the start of the summer that Cisse and 1 of Sissoko and Tiote would definitely go - but there has been surprisingly little of them leaving.

I don't think the squad needs that much work tbh. If we get in Mitrovic and a CB in I'll be happy enough.
