Fair enough, but Barry has still had a much better season than Cleverley.

I entirely agree. Cleverley's a thoroughly average player.

I guess, but Hodgson's been more than happy to call up those in their early thirties since he took the reigns.

Yeah but if you include him over Cleverley then you're looking at having 4 central-midfielders over the age of 30 in the squad. That's at least one too many.

Also, surely Gareth Barry is more deserving of a call-up than Cleverley?

He is. At 32, though, I can kinda see the logic in leaving him out.

Decent squad, nice to see Lallana get some recognition. Can't see a good reason why Defoe/Welbeck/Cleverley have been picked though.

I have to say Nasri has improved so much since last season, another good game tonight.

Pellegrini seems to have figured out how to get the best out of him. He looks like he did when he was playing for Arsenal in 2010/11.

Unfortunately, the same is true for Clichy, he looks like a shadow of the player he was under Mancini. His decision-making is getting worse and worse. The penalty he gave away was horrendous.

Plane from Moscow to Manchester had to be diverted to Denmark yesterday to throw off drunken CSKA fans. Bodes well for this evening

It was only 1 drunken fan. They threw off 6 of his mates for being dicks about it.

That is shocking, he is actively attempting to injure a young kid who is just starting his career. Should have a substantial ban for that, really poor stuff.

Frankly that has nothing do with it. That's a terrible 'challenge' whatever the age of the player on the receiving end.

I'm not saying the full-backs don't overlap, they do. Just that Navas isn't being asked to cut inside because of them. Pellegrini likes his wide-men to cut-in anyway.

It's really not. Pellegrini always has two 'interiores' - wide players who cut inside - besides which our full-backs haven't (consistently) been creative forces since the first half of the 2011/12 season. Which is when most teams figured out that only one of our full-backs can cross and only Richards can dribble/burst through a defence and started playing narrower against us to squeeze Silva.

Navas smoked Evra by sticking wide and running really, really fast.

Don't really see how you can really fuck up a player like that.

To be fair, he played the same sort of role at Sevilla last year so he's not really fucked him up but, yeah, I'd just have him running past full-backs really quickly.

Aye but if Remy was playing with Shola I'd back him to bag 2/3 of the sitters Cisse missed.

He probably would have created more chances too. His pace against Lescott and Boyata would have been a hilarious mismatch.

Do you's rate Navas? I've thought he's looked pretty poor from what I've seen of him.

I do. There are a few beginning to have doubts though. Personally I think he's struggling with the combination of the physical side of the English game and the role that Pellegrini's given him. He seems to be being asked to cut inside a lot and he doesn't seem entirely comfortable doing that. Personally I'd rather see him cheesing past full-backs and whipping in crosses to Negredo.

Deserved to win that in normal time, just can't keep up with the class of City's substitutes.

Paul Dummet vs Jesus Navas ffs

Boyata is awful btw.

Yeah, you were by far the best team for 90 minutes.

He's not great.

Shut up you mong, he's allowed to express an opinion but obviously when it comes to a question like that and you're the president of FIFA, you definitely should be more cautious in giving an answer. If it involved one of your City players in that whole feud I'm sure you'll be unhappy.

He wasn't speaking as Sepp Blatter FIFA President, though. He's allowed to express a preference. If it was an official FIFA event or he was actually representing FIFA it might be different but he wasn't, he was at a private event voicing a personal opinion. Anybody who has an issue with that can sit down and shut up.

Unhappy that he's said one of them spends more on his hair than the other? I couldn't give a shit. It's such a monumentally trivial thing to get annoyed about. If he'd said that he thinks Ronaldo is a preening, petulant, prima-donna who should act his age instead of bitching and complaining like a 12 year-old, then he'd have reason to be annoyed. As it is, he doesn't and he just comes off as being exceptionally thin-skinned and more than a little petulant.

He also said Ronaldo has more expenses on his hairdresser, which is a joke but really no need to say it to the public especially in what is supposed to be a neutral position. He's certainly not paid to be the president of FIFA to say that he prefers Messi as well.

Fuck off, prick though Blatter undoubtedly is, he's allowed to express an opinion. This is just Ronaldo being whiney.

I don't think Joe Hart will ever be one of the best in the world unfortunately.

He has the ability to be one of the best in the world but it's his mentality that worries me. He's unbelievably arrogant and just doesn't seem to be learning from his mistakes.

Seems like a typical case of a young(ish) English player who thinks he's made it before he has.

Oh so badly.

Even if we do buy Casillas or somebody similar (Caballero, perhaps) that won't be 'it' for Hart. It could see him loaned out but he's too young (and English and Home-Grown) to just give up on.

Apart from the second 10 minutes or so, that was a fairly woeful first-half performance.

Clichy looks even worse than he did towards the end of his time at Arsenal.
