He stays down for more than a minute, unless I've got another unrelated incident where he stayed down for more than a minute without contact at all. It would be quite a catalogue.

How can you explain every other foreigner in the Premier League that hasn't racially abused anyone? Suarez was hardly just off the plane either, he had been in the country since the last January.

Surely Appleton would turn them down? He's got a better chairman at Blackpool, even if Blackburn are a bigger club.

If you're right, I'll be a happy camper. You could avoid the capitalist critique if the storyline shifted from being about a corporation (although with bankers so popular right now it would be a shame not to highlight them), but I don't think you'd be able to avoid the identity theory stuff, given that he's literally an android in the original.

Amusingly, the most controversial incident that happened in that cup tie was Allen stopping the ball across the goal-line with his arm early in the first half, which could have warranted a red card and a penalty and turned the tie really on its head.

Why not? Chelsea and Arsenal have recently.

He already explains why in his comment- because he thinks PSG's logo is one of the best around already.

Geoff Shreeves is making his way to the Chelsea tunnel, to inform Ivanovic that he has just cost Chelsea a League Cup Final spot.

Yeah because that's what happened. The ball reflected, he weighed up the trajectory, he swung his arm around and as he did it all was thinking was "fucking hate Mansfield the part time scrubs".

That satire is beneath you, come on, he clearly didn't think about how he didn't like Mansfield, but he did deliberately handball to gain an advantage. It's not the first time he's tried to score with his hand, or block a shot with his hand deliberately, and it certainly won't be the last. I'm just explaining that when you paint yourself with actions in the public eye as a pathetic pantomime villain and you break the rules, actively relishing and laughing at the fact that you've avoided punishment, you will be deemed with further contempt.

Plus, everyone in the UK loves an underdog story, so you can only imagine how much that fuels the protest too.

Suarez is just reaffirming the views that everyone believes in regards to his on-field persona. Furthermore, the way that his actions were used to deny a lower league side that were good for the win a potentially lucrative replay at Anfield also contributed.

Will it have the radical critique of post-industrial capitalism and consider the implications of identity theory like the original, or go the way of all subsequent versions of Robocop and just focus on the fight scenes and the silly sci-fi universe they can create? Stupid question to even ask, I know, given the recent Hollywood trend.

It will only be a matter of time until Back to the Future is remade with Adam Sandler as the Doc and Will Smiths' kid playing Marty McFly. Fuck me.

Henry didn't do it on his own; Pires and Ljungberg were two of the best wingers in world football, Vieira was the best midfield enforcer and Bergkamp was probably the only player in the world with a better touch than Henry, and they were all at their peak in his formative years. His career was also saved by Wenger, in fact, more than any of the trophies or the economic policies, Thierry Henry is his greatest achievement.

Drogba fucked himself over by diving frequently and becoming the sort of 'buzzword for simulation a la Suarez/Ronaldo/Bale/Young' just before that game though. Plus he was vibrating on the floor for about 45 seconds afterwards, massively over-exaggerating the foul. Lucky escape for Evans though.

I'm going to be controversial and say Messi or Ronaldo are no better than Henry at his peak.

He was just unbelievable.

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=tGzI38BF-FI&feature=endscreen[/media

Even if he ended up being a cheating cunt against Ireland.

Completely disagree. Truly a world-class striker, but Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have taken the bar set by the likes of Henry, Zidane, Ronaldo and smashed right through it into the stratosphere.

Edit: first few lines of the documentary, "if you look at his record, the best striker ever"- uh, what? Assuming that he's focused only on English football and thus ignoring Pele, Puskas, Muller et al, Alan Shearer?

"I have never seen any player dominate the Premier League like Henry did"- well, he hardly dominated because he lost more Premier League titles than he won during his time in English football, in terms of goal-scoring Ruud Van Nistelrooy wasn't always too far behind him, and the likes of Didier Drogba and Cristiano Ronaldo have both had better seasons where they were just spanking the whole league since.

Just so you guys know, Thierry Henry is definitely one of the best strikers ever- this doesn't mean I think he's shit or anything.

That article is awful isn't very good tbf, it's so overwritten, I can see why Jaygull likes it.

People seem to be obsessed with certain pundits though. Redknapp etc. probably don't even write their articles.

Not only do you get to move into the biggest league in the world on massive wages (probably with a nice signing-on fee and a cheap get-out clause), you can put yourself in the limelight for bigger clubs taking you on if you impress.

Also, for the record, James Lawton is a superb writer who consistently forms superb pieces. You don't have to agree with what he says but just because he speaks badly of your club/ player, it doesn't make it an awful piece of writing.

Yeah, that's why I found his shutdown response so bemusing.

Espanyol were like a pub team last night, just to show the chasm in quality, never mind Barcelona never needing to get out of second gear. As for the World Team of the Year, bit pathetic;

GK- Manuel Neuer
DR- Philip Lahm
DL- Jordi Alba
DC- Sergio Ramos
DC- Vincent Kompany
MC- Xavi
MC- Andrea Pirlo
MC- Andreas Iniesta
FW- Cristiano Ronaldo
FW- Robin Van Persie
FW- Lionel Messi

I'd like to have seen a team more like that. Van Persie for Arsenal last season was better than Falcao, Cavani et al, and that was playing in a tougher league and scoring majestic goals for fun. I don't follow German football too closely, but I imagine maybe players like Hummels or Schweinsteiger might have deserved a look in perhaps? Also, Zlatan and Thiago Silva? How well did they do last season?

Inconsistent, rather than overrated, I'd say. I mean, he was man of the match when Croatia played Spain in the Euros, he looked incredible against Xavi and Iniesta and ran the show. What I would say is that whilst he is capable of performing to a Sneijder-at-Inter-esque level circa 2009/10, he often made a meal out of playing against West Brom at home for Spurs, and other such inconsequential games. You might even think that he tries to peak his performances for the international stage.
