Hi guys, welcome back to my new tactic emulation.
This time, as requested by someone of you, I tried to emulate Steve Clarke's Scotland tactic.
Scotland secured their place in the Euro 2024 finals with two games remaining, achieving qualification in a far more relaxed manner than previous campaigns.
After heartbreak in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, a determined Scottish squad, led by manager Steve Clarke, aimed for redemption. They started the Euro 2024 campaign with a bang, winning their first five games, including a historic victory over Spain at Hampden Park. The team displayed a never-say-die attitude, exemplified by Kenny McLean's late winner against Norway and Scott McTominay's crucial goals throughout the campaign.
While a controversial VAR decision denied Scotland a win in Seville against Spain, ultimately it didn't impact their qualification thanks to Spain's win over Norway later that evening. This allowed Scotland's fans in Lille, for a friendly with France, to celebrate qualification amidst the disappointment of the French Rugby World Cup exit.
This qualification campaign showcased the team's growth and development under Clarke. They played with a winning mentality, starting strongly and securing crucial points early on. Unlike previous campaigns, there were no late-game dramas or nail-biting playoffs.
However, the job isn't done yet. Scotland currently sit second in the group, behind Spain on goal difference. Their remaining two games present an opportunity to finish top of the group and build momentum heading into the Euros. Winning their final qualifier against Norway at Hampden Park would be a fitting way to end the campaign and overcome the psychological hurdle of past defeats to Georgia.
Scotland can look forward to their second consecutive European Championship with confidence, thanks to their impressive qualifying campaign and a team hungry for success.
