Instructions

IMPORTANT: The action file for these logos will not create the logos for you, it merely automates some of the steps. You will need to make some decisions yourself along the way.

p.s. You'll find the action file download at the bottom of this post.

Before creating any logos, make sure you have a folder called Logos on your C: drive. Inside that folder create folders called Normal and Small, this is where the logos are exported to.

You'll also need to make sure any images you wish to turn into ESS logos are of a good quality and size (around 250 pixels in width or height is the minimum I'd use. Also, no more than 500 pixels in width or height, or the effect is lost), RGB format images with a transparent background. Also, make sure the image name is what you want the completed images to be called.

Here are the actions that you'll be using:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7liFfYkQpw7Cgr79cHb44m74JGtBLcaW6ELTzAoz.png

Step One:

Taking a logo like this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/anKoLhtuEqHILIAoaFddxVngG0q1EqM11ukyaxld.png

Play the Setup Base Layer (F2) step, which should give this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vbps6atkN5xtKhVIispmm818dmcceWWvTCKuhcJe.png

IMPORTANT: before executing the setup base layer action, make sure that you have selected the colour you want the depth effect to be (usually the same colour to whatever is at the edge of the image).

Now, if the depth layer is particularly dark, you'll want to change the overlay to something lighter

http://i.imgur.com/aVdBI.png

I use white and 5% opacity as the overlay value.

Step Two:

You'll need to pick out details of the logo to be extruded, using the magic wand tool. Once you've selected what you want, hit CTRL + J to create a new layer. Don't go crazy, as you may spoil the shine effect.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mWPiNjgrby94FVDEmb0LzyJCPsVm5mHiE2rp1DIO.png

Step Three:

Once you're happy with what you've selected, select the new layer (not the base layer), and play the Create Effect Layer (Light) - F3 or Create Effect Layer (Dark) - F4 action depending on the colour of the layer, light/F3 should be used for dark layers, and dark/F4 for light layers. This should give you something like this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/OJujlmJ7u4xWlZA4uxwKLRkgviS7xIL6dGlfpkLJ.png

Step Four:

You should already have the gloss layer selected (if not, select it), then use the elliptical marquee tool to select an area over the image.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/k4bWPj5ig41MDJD1aI0LrfKOavBmi22fUHsGLRin.png

Now, if you've got a dark highlight (as above) then you just need to delete the selected bit (DEL). If you've got a light highlight, then you'll need to invert the selection (CTRL+SHIFT+I) before deleting.

If you've selected things where there's more than one colour, as below:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/gAXa2ccSyYHZeBgJFHcT7hUsIDRfC4ehRnYkHVsc.png

Then you'll need to use the Change wip depth colour (SHIFT+F5) action. Simply choose the wip layer, and select the bit you want to change the colour of (having already selected the colour to change to, obviously). Then simply play the action.

Step Five:

This one's easy, just play the Finish Effect Layer (F5)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/qDPq0Kx5DIYayJ8ZDc0eEDtmB1Feym3up7TId8N2.png

Step Six:

Now, as with the effect layers, play either Complete Base Layer (Light) - F6 (for a light effect) or Complete Base Layer (Dark) - F7 (for a dark effect). Then use the elliptical marquee tool to remove the unwanted section

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/fGebnw6s33SxXd1U0BUrLziMnZ64fk6H6Ep6d81T.png

Step Seven:

Just play the Export Logos (F7) action, and the logos will be saved to the relevant folders.

Hi, sorry for off - topic but I have one question. Do you still have ESS v5 Action File? I prefer them and in old graphics forum it's not available anymore... Thanks in advance!

So glad you've made these, hopefully there will be more updates too. They're a lot better IMO than the metallic logo's, only downside is there is a lot less that the metallic ones.

Not bad, but I would have done this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/HsqjPw3DYwYjuuOeBVFnrIO5wLiafbbBZebsnKkG.png

You missed the chin and ear bit of the stag, and I would have put the MTFC bit over the top of that.

If you want to put layers above each other, just move them by 15 pixels each time. i.e. the lowest layer (in this case the stag) stays where it is, but the one above it (the MTFC text) would be moved up by 15 pixels, if there was a layer above that then that would move by 30 pixels and so on. Only do this if you're putting completed layers on top of one another.

Hello I've been trying this, but it doesn't quite work. I've got five files created in the next order:

86005823.png
comfig.xml (got that one from WTS)
308094.png
309.png
8826582.png

Now my xml file looks like this

<record>
	<!-- resource manager options -->

	<!-- don't preload anything in this folder -->
	<boolean id="preload" value="false"/>

	<!-- turn off auto mapping -->
	<boolean id="amap" value="false"/>

	<!-- picture mappings -->
	<!-- the following XML maps pictures inside this folder into other positions
		in the resource system, which allows this folder to be dropped into any
		place in the graphics folder and still have the game pick up the graphics
		files from the correct places
	-->

	<list id="maps">
		<!-- Generated by FM Graphics Configurator, by HMan -->
		<record from="86005823" to="graphics/pictures/club/86005823/icon"/>
		<record from="308094" to="graphics/pictures/club/308094/icon"/>
		<record from="309" to="graphics/pictures/club/309/icon"/>
		<record from="8826582" to="graphics/pictures/club/8826582/icon"/>

	</list>
</record>
Now only the first two logos actually work can anyone help me?

Edit: Never mind. I got it. They were shortcuts
