Have to rename it to "The Nearly-A-Third-Of-Each-League League"

The Europa League should just go back to the old knockout format.

Or, the 64 teams should just be a knockout competition. That would be awesome and also would never happen in case a big team got knocked out early

The 64-team idea isn't the solution - it'd only dilute the quality of the Champions League and we'd have less teams playing European football overall. They should leave the CL alone and focus purely on the Europa League. For starters, offering a place in the following year's Champions League for the winners (or runners-up if the winners have already qualified through their league finish) would increase it's appeal.

Ronaldo \o/

What a tackle and ball by Modric to set up that goal.

Ajax look like they're going to cope a right hiding against Madrid now.

We are just muck. Garcia and Sinclair look like Championship standard players

I'd forgotten all about Scott Sinclair! How many games has he played for you lot?

He's started 3 and made a few substitute appearances too.

Samir Nasri has been such a poor signing. It's depressing to think that both Mata and Cazorla were available for less than the £24m we paid for Nasri.

I wish Mancini took off Tevez at half time, save him for Sunday. He's the only one who has actually played tonight

Want to enjoy this seeing as I probably won't enjoy Sunday but it's not that fun really.

First English team not to win a single group match in the CL. Shocking.

Not too disappointed with the result given the side we fielded tonight, but it's a shame to go down the way we did. Meade already looks twice the left-back Santos is.

So our first three possible ties are Porto, Milan or Real Madrid. Great.

Add to that Shakhtar/Juve, probably Valencia and Benfica/Celtic.

Not to concerned by Porto, Benfica/Celtic or Milan tbh and I'd take Juve or Valencia.

Really want to avoid Shakhtar and Real Madrid, I think we'd be in big trouble against those two.

Aye, and apparently worst points total was Blackburn with 4 points in 95/96. City got 3.

That Cluj forward was taking the piss there. I think if you dive, and then you stay down to stop counter-attacks, you should be retroactively punished.

Why does Scholes always feel the need to lift the ball to complete his passes? There were times when he could've simply delivered it fast on the ground, but he continuously chips it to slow down everything that's delivered out to the wings.

These are games I really miss Kagawa since we can't effectively attack from the wings, and some creativity from the middle seemed desperately needed.

Congratulations to Celtic.

Never gave them a chance when the group was drawn and fair play to them for going for it and getting themselves into the KO stage.

It'll give Celtic more resources and capital, sure, but it can only help enhance the image of Scottish football after Rangers going kicking and screaming to their demise made us [Scottish football as a whole] look like a laughing stock.

Enjoy your celebrations.

Really enjoying the fact that for all the millions City and Chelsea have spent, they havn't managed to qualify for the knockout stages Kudos to Celtic, elated to see them qualify. Fans are second to none, so awesome. There was one brilliant camera view, someone had the ball and you could see all the Celtic fans in the background with their backs turned jumping up and down doing the Poznan.

By the way, is Messi's injury serious or just a minor injury?

No, it's called The Huddle and they invented it!
