When that group came out for the Champions League I just paused for a second and then held my arms up in a wtf moment. Couldn't believe it to be honest, never seen a group like that before in all the years I've been playing Football Manager. Home form will be crucial to advancing from the group I think, I'd take second place right now if I was offered it. Draw for Capital Cup was definitely much friendlier and we should advance to the next round.

Tom Cleverley ready for and relishing Aston Villa test

Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley says he's ready and relishing his sides upcoming Barclays Premier League clash with Aston Villa tomorrow at Old Trafford after they won their opening two fixtures.

Aston Villa have lost their last five meetings with United and haven't beaten the Red Devils since December 2009, that victory sealed by a Gabby Agbonlahor goal at Old Trafford. The Villans have won their opening two Barclays Premier League games against Crystal Palace and Hull and head into the game tomorrow against the Red Devils full of confidence.

United midfielder Tom Cleverley however says he's relishing the test Villa will pose tomorrow at Old Trafford.

"The game tomorrow is going to be a tough one for us and I'm relishing it. They've started the season very well and we can't take anything for granted, it'll be a tough game and we'll have to be at our best to beat them," said Cleverley.

"Also we did hammer them last time out at Old Trafford when we won the league title so they'll be hurting from that and be out for some revenge. The game will be a good test for us at this point of the season," added the England international.

Cleverley, 24, has started both of United's opening Barclays Premier League fixtures and has impressed alongside Michael Carrick in midfield for the champions. The England international who has two years remaining on his current deal at Old Trafford says he's dreaming of representing England at next years FIFA World Cup in Brazil should they qualify.

Manchester United kept pace with Liverpool and Chelsea at the top of the Barclays Premier League table and maintained their 100% record under manager David Moyes with a convincing 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.

Manchester United have wrapped up their Barclays Premier League commitments for August in fine fashion after comfortably beating Aston Villa at Old Trafford this afternoon as Robin van Persie, Michael Carrick, Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa all netted to ensure new manager David Moyes kept his 100% winning record.

The champions began in ruthless fashion and could have been ahead within the first minute had Rooney's header not clipped the bar and gone over, the England international rising well to meet Ashley Young's well flighted cross. Villa should have woken up after that early warning, they didn't and van Persie ensured they were punished accordingly as he swept home Rooney's low cross to put the hosts ahead and took his tally to three goals in three Barclays Premier League appearances.

The visitors could have been level a minute later when Christian Benteke tested David De Gea only for the rebound to be blazed over by Gabby Agbonlahor when it seemed it was easier to score from just eight yards out.

In truth that was as exciting as the first half got except for Juan Mata's moment of brilliance on the stroke of half time when he chested a deflected cross down before volleying a powerful effort against the visitors crossbar.

Wayne Rooney set up and scored a goal against Aston Villa

After the interval the Red Devils wasted little time in adding a second as Carrick headed home a van Persie free kick just five minutes into the second half. Once again Villa responded and just two minutes before Rooney scored the third for United the visitors should have reduced the deficit as Benteke found himself one on one with De Gea only to fire his effort wide.

That miss let United off the hook and they took full advantage as Mata and substitute Kagawa combined before the former found Rooney inside the area and the 27 year old made no mistake as he slid in to poke home beyond Brad Guzan.

The visitors did eventually get on the scoresheet as Marc Albrighton scored a spectacular goal with a 30 yard effort that swerved into the top corner leaving De Gea with no chance, but it was too little too late for Villa. In the end United restored their three goal advantage in injury time as Kagawa met a Tom Cleverley cross with his head to make it 4-1.

Both sides will now have a fortnightly break from Barclays Premier League action due to the international break.

Villa will resume their domestic campaign at Villa Park on Sunday 15th September against Fulham whilst the Red Devils will travel to face bitter rivals Liverpool in a blockbuster showdown at Anfield on the 14th September.

Phil Jones enjoying winning start under David Moyes

Manchester United defender Phil Jones says he's delighted by the clubs winning start under new manager David Moyes in the Barclays Premier League and says he hopes to feature more in the coming months.

Jones, 21, who has been capped eight times by England has made just one appearance in the Barclays Premier League, the defender playing the full 90 minutes during the 2-0 win over Swansea City on the opening day of the season at Old Trafford.

"Obviously I do want to play more and hopefully I can force my way into the team over the coming months," said Jones.

"I'm not complaining though, the season has only started and we've been winning so you expect the manager will stick with the players who are performing well. I know I'll get my opportunity and I'll have to take my chance," added Jones.

The return of Rafael from suspension meant Jones dropped to the bench and Jonny Evans has been preferred at centre back alongside captain Nemanja Vidić, although Jones did play and score against Wigan Athletic in the Community Shield

Jones said he's enjoying life under new manager David Moyes and their winning start they've made to the season.

"I think we've started very well and the results have shown that. We've got nine points from a possible nine and we've been performing really well so we've got to be pleased with that. The international break has come and we've got Liverpool to come once we get back so that'll be a difficult game, but we'll prepare as well as we can and try win at Anfield," said Jones.

The defender signed for United in 2011 for £16 million and has made 47 Barclays Premier League appearances. The 21 year old is tipped by many to form a partnership with teammate Chris Smalling at club and international level for years to come.

Manchester United have announced via their official website that striker Wayne Rooney has signed a new contract that extends his current deal by three years and will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2018.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has secured the long term future of striker Wayne Rooney after the 27 year old penned a new contract which extended his current deal by three years and will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2018.

The striker joined the Red Devils from Everton in 2004 in a deal worth £27 million and has made 281 appearances in the Barclays Premier League scoring 142 times for United since his arrival. Since his arrival Rooney has won the Barclays Premier League title five times, two Capital One Cups, two Community Shield's and one UEFA Champions League.

After signing his new deal Rooney spoke of his delight as he looks set to see out his career at Old Trafford.

"I'm delighted to sign this contract and delighted to be committing my future to Manchester United. I've been here a long time and won everything I dreamt of winning when I joined the club, I couldn't have asked for more," said Rooney.

"I've played with some fantastic players during my time here and now I get the chance as a senior player to help the younger lads coming through. I've no doubt we'll continue to challenge for major honours and I'm looking forward to the challenge. Last but not least I'd like to thank the fans who have always supported me and are in my opinion the best in the world. Without their unwavering support none of this would have been possible," added the England international.

Manchester United manager David Moyes was also delighted to have secured Rooney's long term future.

"Wayne Rooney will go down as one of Manchester United's greatest players and I'm delighted he's committed his long term future to the club. Wayne has a massive role to play over the coming years and will play an integral role in helping me achieve what I want to do at this club. Since his debut for Everton he's been the best player in England and he can still improve. I'm delighted Wayne has committed his future and look forward to the coming years," said Moyes.

Sources suggest Rooney is on potentially £300,000 a week at Old Trafford after signing his new deal.
