Brazil win gold at Olympic Games
A star studded Brazil Under 23 squad were crowned Olympic Champions on Saturday night as they overcame Spain 2-0 in a packed Yokohama Arena to take home the gold medals. The pair had met just a month previously, in a friendly which ended 0-0, and many expected a similarly tight game in the final. Spain had made their way courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Ivory Coast in the semi-finals, a double from Ansu Fati ensuring their progress. Brazil, meanwhile, beat Germany 2-0 with goals from Madrid based Lodi and Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.
It was the City youngster who was to open the scoring again in the final, giving the Brazilian side, which also featured Liverpool keeper Allison among others, a lead going into the break. It proved to be another Spanish capital based player, this time Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who would go on to seal the tie in the second half, which saw Brazil retain the title they won at the previous games, beating Germany that time out in a penalty shout out. Valencia midfielder Carlos Soler, who played the entire 90 minutes in the final, was among the disappointed, although he had also played a hand previously in knocking out new team mate Jean N’Guessan and the Ivory Coast at the semi final stage, the new arrival from RC Abidjan featuring as a substitute in that game.
Not the best of starts
Hope it doesn't take too much time for the new signs to gel in the squad
Best of luck in Europe this season #AmuntValencia
