The alternate Scottish system returns for 2019 to replace the current cyclical system.

The system is as follows:
- 16 teams in the SPFL Premiership, Championship and League 1
- 4th tier split with the Highland and Lowland League, 16 teams each
- 5th tier North Caledonian League and South of Scotland Football League feeding into the Highland and Lowland leagues respectively, 16 teams each
- 6th tier split into 4 leagues of 18, North and South, A and B
- 7th and 8th tier are Amateur leagues, split into North and South - A, B, C and D - with 12 teams in each

The Scottish Cup is open to all available teams. In addition, the League Cup is played by the teams of the 3 SPFL leagues, the Challenge Cup has moved to the 4th and 5th tier, and the Junior Cup is open to all teams from the 6th tier down. The 7th and 8th tiers compete in the North and South Amateur Cups, with the ultimate amateur side decided in a battle between the 2 winners. The Glasgow Cup has been reimagined as the new Super Cup of Scotland.

Main changes from last season's database include:

- Every team in Scotland that appears on the FM 2019 database is now playable

- The introduction of Northern and Southern Amateur Cups, with an Amateur Shield contested at the end of the season between the two winning sides to determine the ultimate amateur side

- The League Cup dates have moved to minimise overall conflict of scheduling (matches had previously eaten into international breaks and rearranged dates for the cups were moved into the winter break), with the return from the winter break dedicated to the League Cup semi finals and final

- The reserve system has changed to somewhat resemble the structure of the real system
-The Premiership teams have an under 23s league (effectively a reserves team - 4 over 23s can play in matches)
-The Premiership and Championship compete in national under 18s leagues which mirror the teams in both leagues (4 over-18s are eligible for Championship teams)
-The 3rd to 6th tier under 18 sides will compete with each other in regionalised tournaments (4 over-18s are eligible for matches)

(I'd recommend ticking "Add Players to Playable Leagues" when setting up the game)
