Adding Runners up teams in new cup

Hi guys, I have a problem. I created a UK Cup Winners Cup which pits the winners of the scottish, english, welsh and N. irish leagues and fa cups against each other, it contains 8 teams. My problem is that if the same team wins both their league and cup, then only they are entered into the UK cup winners cup. So it ends up screwed when it comes to the draw for the competition. I want to add the runners up of the cups in this case, but when i add "get last runners up" it comes up with an error saying there should be 12 teams in competition, but i don't want 12, i want 8. how can i sort this?
